(Zeromus.MP3) I don’t care if you like JPRGs or not, Nobuo Uematsu is a master composer on par with John Williams and Hanz Zimmer. I actually don’t care for JRPGs these days myself, but I’m glad I got to play FF2(/4) FF6 and Chrono Trigger before I came to that conclusion, because they’re some of my favorite games of all time. That has a ton to do with the music, I grant. FF6 has an opera in it. AN OPERA. With 4 audio channels on the SNES, Uematsu wrote an Opera. “Oh my hero…” I lost interest right at FF7, which kind of killed it for me. I guess I liked the superdeformed sprites sweating it out when they were down to 20% health and all that. Also I didn’t care that Aerith got killed because I hadn’t had her in my party since I got Tifa, so when she died I was like, “Oh, right, that was some chick I met earlier, wasn’t it?” Also the music wasn’t as good IMO.
Tamer: Enhancer 2 – Progress Update:
Finished the chapter which was the last chapter but is no longer the last chapter. Wrote about 2,000 words of the actual last chapter, unless I decide there needs to be a quick wind up after this chapter. I know I’ve been talking about this mythical last chapter since I started these, but I don’t know what to tell you. I just write until it feels done. Well, okay, not so much with the first book. I had a bunch of stuff written after the fade to black it ended on, but didn’t want to get into any of that and leave a bunch of dangling stuff at the end of the book, like “I guess I should get started on making some bows.” The End
That’s not cool.
September’s vote incentive is up! It’s been over a year since Max was featured in one of these, so I figured it was time to revisit.
If you just popped by to see it right when it went up, you might have missed the update. Her nipples were a touch high in the first version, and if you poke through the comments there, you can see the reference I used, only that model’s boobs were about 3 cup sizes smaller. Anyway, I flew her nipples south for the winter and updated the relevant pics.
Nude version is up at Patreon.
Double res version will be posted over at Patreon. Feel free to contribute as much as you like.
If Kevin’s smart he’ll just surrender now. Save himself the embarrassment.
He clearly doesn’t care bout embarrassment and cares a lot about fun.
Even though he could not punch through the bubble, being in the receiving end of her attacks would definitely be fun for him.
Last time I checked she can’t attack through the bubble. We saw that her tentacle can’t pass through it during the original fight and she dropped the bubble blast at the big alien things.
She can manifest both the lighthook and the PPO’s weapons outside the shield. What she can’t do is make the lighthook appear inside the shield. See for example https://www.grrlpowercomic.com/archives/comic/grrl-power-658-round-1-fight/.

The next episodes are going to be interesting!
Honestly cant see the point in this shift.
Sydney has not done anything in Vehemence’s sight that would make her stand out.
Besides act as a planner.
As far as he knows. If he want to continue fighting there isnt anything Sydney can do to stop him from going after Max.
That’s what makes it interesting!
Sydney could possibly pop an atherian causeway in front of a charging V, and the next thing he knows he’s breathing deep space. He has to burn energy to stay alive and there’s nothing to fight for a recharge. Then Sydney pops him back as soon as he reaches a troubling shade of blue
Use her lighthook to suspend him in the air occurs to me as the easiest one.
Bubble him, then suck out the air?
It may also be that he can’t feed on violence done to him remotely via the orbs. In which case: bubble him, then rattle it vigorously, in a move I hereby dub the Cuban Pete – “When I shake my maracas, they go chick-chicky-boom, chick-chicky-boom”
She can only center the bubble around herself, so if she bubbles him, he isn’t trapped by her, she is trapped with him.
She also hasn’t shown any ability to suck out air – as far as we know she can only make breathable air.
If she does very fast small circles when flying with the bubble maxed and him getting an extreme version of the wall of death and she can perform various manoeuvres to keep him from trying anything. Admittedly it’s counterable if he gives himself a new power.
Bubble blocking him from the outside is both counterable because he can physically interact with it, and liable to lead to collisions which give him energy.
I don’t think Sydney has shown the ability to use the shield around objects or people without encapsulating herself inside the bubble as well. If she did this, she would have to be in the bubble with him from my understanding on how that orb works.
If I am wrong, please point me to where this is shown.
you are not wrong, in fact, during the big melee fight where he used his aggro field, she used her bubble to contain it, except she was inside of it too and was like “please don’t kill me?”
Yeah, she used the bubble mainly to cut him off from the effects of the agro field spell, basically cutting him off from his fuel source. But they also learned then that it takes too long for him to cool down on his own. Also didn’t they actually resolve that fight off camera if I remember?
Not off camera. Sydney set up this plan that was both choking him and drowning him, and told him his choices were to accept Dabbler’s sleep spell or Maxima was going to ash his brain.
Kevin seems to be a guy with intelligence & a highly cognitive mind. It would be a shame to see him become scatter-brained…
During the first fight with Vehemence, the comments were FULL of people saying that she should just form a shield around his head or something. To the point that DaveB explicitly came out and say that she can’t do that.
I second naming this maneuver the Cuban Pete!
He goes Boomchicka boomchicka boomboom.
He’s also a really modest guy, although he’s the hottest guy, in Havana, in Havana.
Sydney is so very nice…
And so full of spice.
…It’s mostly capsaicin though…
That should work. While right now Vehemence is stronger than the lighthook, this is a matter of bracing – he can’t physically stop himself from being lifted. He’d have to use his anchoring power, which will burn his energy faster than grappling will build it up. He can try to stop the lighthook from grabbing him, but wrestling the lighthook is probably no fun, and he doesn’t have winning condition – Sydney is safe from violence inside the shield so he can’t power up on her.
His best bet would be to try going after the peanut gallery, hoping to force a violent response.
For the point of wrestling the lighthook… We did learn last time that he can affect Sydney within the shield via his interaction with the lighthook, like dragging her along the ground and making her fall over when he suddenly slipped the lighthook off of him.
https://www.grrlpowercomic.com/archives/comic/grrl-power-257-lets-get-ready-to-rubbllllllle/
So maybe he could swing her around via the lighthook? Slam her bubble into walls and maybe disorient her? Not sure how useful that would be but it’s better than nothing.
I think that was just him twisting out of the lighthook and Sydney falling on her butt when there was suddenly no resistance to her pulling on it.
Yes, that’s what cesret said, I think? Along with noting that, in panel 1 of that linked strip, Sydney was being dragged along the ground (as the sound effects emphasised)… Point is, if there’s resistance when he’s grappled and pulling away, and none when he escapes, he can move her using the lighthook, meaning he could try to do the above-mentioned Cuban Pete move on her (well, until she dispels the lighthook, of course, but it does mean that tactic isn’t reliable until she gets him off the ground).
As an aside: if it hadn’t been for the dragging panel 1 of the linked strip, I wouldn’t have been certain her falling over in panel 3 was a consequence of lack of resistance rather than just Sydney falling over because it’s what she’d expected to happen.
Good catch on the dragging in panel 1, that changes my impression.
The lighthook, unlike the orbs themselves, can apparently pull Sydney.
“Sydney is safe from violence inside the shield”
Actually that might just be the test… See if he can gain anything off a perfect defense. We really DON’T know it’s upper limit still.
True, the most we’ve seen it take is the equivalent of a tactical nuke :D
In the first fight her light hook was little more than annoyance to him, and when he is fully powered up, even Maxima couldn’t lift him. Add to that, many strategies people seem to be coming up with involve her needing to use more than two orbs at once. she can’t keep her shield up, and fly and then use another orb while doing both those things.
If Max don’t want to figh him, unless he suddenly learn to fly, I don’t see what he could do.
It wouldn’t be the first time he’s pulled new powers out of his ass.
who is he, Powdered Toast Man?
Cause havoc until she’s forced to address it?
She can address it by nuking his ass, in this abandoned quarry far away from civilians.
Vehemence isn’t a typical brute, either. From what we have seen in the original story, he was able to plan a situation that granted him increased power and an advantage in being able to study his opposition’s fighting styles before engaging. While Maxima was powerful, by the time they started to fight, he was able to match and even best her. He also stated, although it can be questioned, that he doesn’t want to kill and just fight people, but went to kill Maxima because she demonstrated that she was willing to kill him.
Vehemence might be concerned with them sending Sydney for three reasons that I can see. The first is that she was the one that planned his defeat, and the defeat of other villains at the brawl. The second is that she is being sent out after he has gone into his glowing form, so must have a plan against it. The third is based on how much of his morals are true; he claimed he didn’t want to kill any of them and Sydney is physically frail, so he might hold back is attacks in concern of accidentally killing her.
However, due to Sydney being the main character, she was only sent out because that’s what happens in most stories. I can’t see her winning a physical fight, so must assume she will use her wits to end this.
And you’re all forgetting something important. Vehemence KNOWS for sure, 100% confirmed, that she has the ability to block her Vehementic Aura. She’s the only person on Earth that has done so, to him, so far. That places her on a different level by itself. She could harness lighthook him, and bubble up, specially now that she can breathe forever in there, and wait for him to just tire out.
Since she’s bubled, he wouldn’t get any energy, as far as he knows, since the shield CAN block auras. And the shield itself has physicallity. So she could tie him to the shield, back to the shield, on a slope, so he wouldn’t have any point to push properly.
ALSO… PPO.
Let’s face it. She’s technically a spaceship. She has killed eldritch kaijus. She could just… vaporize him, and be done with it.
Sydney cannot use 3 orbs at once. She can have her bubble up and control him with the lighthook, but she can’t also refresh her oxygen at the same time.
She’s still got that thing on her belt doesn’t she? It supplies what 4 people stationary for 20 minutes? That should be enough for a tense Halo to survive.
Dabbler NEEEDS to get Sydney equipped with an extra pair of hands. I don’t know if cyborg or hologram hands would work but surely alien tech has a way to add additional hands to a body?
No, she needs a few interesting limits to her power to be a interesting character.
I was going to say Sydney would never go for it due to the high chance of unexpected departure from the A-team. But even here in mundane reality women pull surprising things out of their cleavage. Sydney would totally go for a boob job that included hammer-space.
Sydney already asked Dabbler (in the restaurant, before the super brawl started) about getting a cyborg arm because she wanted the same kind of “hammer space” Dabbler has. Dabs pointed out that, not only doesn’t she share advanced tech like that but there’s no way of telling if Sydney’s orbs need to be in direct contact with an organic appendage or not; it’s already been established that even just a pair of mittens would keep Sydney from using the orbs.
The oxy supply is an addon to the shield, so can be used any time she uses the shield, with no extra hands, right?
Nope. Green Orb.
No, oxygen is the green orb that has been dubbed life support so far
That’s what Varia’s for.
https://www.grrlpowercomic.com/archives/comic/grrl-power-324-she-should-put-all-those-answers-on-a-shirt/
Sydney’s not so much a spaceship as half a Jaegar
She still has a rebreather from Machina Industries as a backup instead of the green orb.
Even so, it would only take a second of two while inside the shield to grab the Life Support Orb & give herself a quick refresh. It wouldn’t require any more time than she would need to let go of her Flight Orb so she could take a quick shot with the PPO & then gain control of Flight again. At worst, a quick inconvenience that would only be needed about every 20 minutes or so, even without using the rebreather.
“Even so, it would only take a second of two while inside the shield to grab the Life Support Orb & give herself a quick refresh. ”
True, but why bother? It would give away a classified power for no benefit during a spar with a dangerous enemy who we already know is good at tactics (from how he discerned Anvil’s classified power and then used it against her while fighting her). Remember, Maxima told her to keep the rebreather for that reason as well.
He’s too strong for the lighthook to just overwhelm him like that. Best she can do is lift him up to deny him leverage, which he can also counter if at a heavy energy cost.
PPO would probably work, but so would Maxima’s blast, so that can’t be what they’re planning.
The lightship still exerts 16 tonnes of force. thats a 16 tonne whipcrack to the face, or knee.
… or his gnads if we are fighting dirty.
theres also the basic usages of the orbs. even minus powers, sydney can control them and they cannot be forcibly moved. so if sydney used four of them to vicegrip V’s head and then just flyballed into him at mach 10 imm not sure he could withstand it.
Or she could cook for him :)
Whipcrack to the face would be violence, making Vehemence stronger.
The orbs aren’t immovable, they only can’t be moved out of Sydney’s range. Concretia was able to push them to separate them from Sydney.
Given that the shield stopped him gaining energy when he was inside it it’s possible it would stop him feeding off any violent actions Sydney takes.
I don’t think it did. It just blocked the aggro aura, so people stopped fighting. Vehemence wasn’t getting any energy because there wasn’t any being created anymore.
But if Kevin is going rogue why would he fight her?
Surely he’d just make a run for it. Once powered up he is stronger than Max. Not sure what Sydney could do if he decided to skidaddle. The Light hook certainly won’t hold him.
The Molestorb don’t work inside Mr Buble
I’m assuming that Dabbler found a spell to shut down Kevin’s vehemence aura, so he can’t acquire indirect energy from making all the spectators fight. Sydney can then just lasso him with the light hook and let him tire himself out trying to get loose. If nobody actually smacks him around he isn’t going to pick up any additional energy.
Alternatively, maybe there aren’t enough people around for the aura to be worth it in the first place? It was supposedly expensive and last time there were a lot more people nearby, so it might be a net loss.
So then we just get to have Kevin punching a shield for hours. And Sydney can refresh her bubble if necessary so she doesn’t suffocate.
—
Or she could just teleport him to space. His powers don’t seem like they could handle space-based suffocation without using up a ton of energy.
Teleporting is one of the effects they’re keeping quiet about.
From what we have seen so far Sydney can only teleport herself and equipment on her body.
She can open what are essentially wormholes in space.
IIRC, Syd’s lighthook is weaker then him, it’s just that it was able to choke him out because it was applied tight enough that he coudn’t heal after Max crushed his throat. The real threat is to his absorbing the energy he needs because Sydney’s force field can stop that.
Of course, I may well be missing something.
That or as stated a couple back, he agreed only to straight fighting, no special powers. Seems hes holding true to his word thus far.
They know he don’t want to hurt her.
Yeah, Syndey has been the ONLY person Vehemence has shown any sort of concern for whatsoever. That much is true.
It didnt stop him from doing the plan which he felt had a chance of killing her though. He just wasnt planning on doing it himself. So… he might use kid gloves on her? Plus Sydney’s… levelled up quite a bit since last time.
Still I want to see the tickle laser instead.
That was before she tried to drown him, after choking him with the Molestorb…
Only two people have tried to kill Kev: Maxi and… Sydney
She wasn’t trying to kill him, just disable him, and he probably knew it even at the time.
No, she was attempting to drown him, after putting the Molestorb around his damaged throat like a noose to force him to use his energies to keep himself alive
Except she had already accepted the theory that would probably be able to burn off his power in exchange for breathing. She was going non-lethal given the situation
Actually Sydney wasnt trying to kill him. She knew that he would be able to use his vehemic energy to still breathe in place of oxygen. She was trying to make him spend more energy than he was getting though, which she felt the need to constantly use vehemic energy to breathe would do, when the only violence being used against him was holding him down and drowning him, while the output of vehemic energy was him trying to break their hold on him, using electricity still (which is why Jiggawatt was there), trying to heal the crushed trachea, and breathing. THAT was minimal pain, maximum cost, since the trachea had already been crushed before the drowning attempt. It was enough to make him start to depower since he went into the red finally from it.
Unlike what Maxima was trying to do.
Sdyney has grown a LOT when it comes to using her powers strategically. The first time she fought big V, she was a complete noob and was still able to do some nice bit of work against him. Plus Max would NEVER send a recruit like sydney into a fight (even just a sparring match) that she didnt think they were ready for.
This is going to be a very interesting fight… cue up Guile’s theme.
This is training and V doesn’t get to pick his opponents.
He saw her neutralize his aggro field. I’m not sure what else he knows about her abilities, but he knows that’s the biggest threat to him.
May your encounters have never ending happy endings.
May your partner’s dong be a quarter as thick as long
all i can think about now is “hullo scott mannly here”
Sorry to inflict this memetic virus on you, but I think you mean “Hullo, Scott manly hair”. Now you’ll never be able to unhear it.
No…that’s Robin Williams’s Mrs. Doubtfiire.
Light hook to the lower legs, a few rounds of The Hulk’s “Puny God” routine.
TMH is holding back teleportation still?
I can’t see her doing anything that doesen’t also have her shielded.

She’s capable of hypersonic travel at ground level. She could just bubble up and fly around pummeling him with impacts against her shield. Or just throw him around with the sonic boom.
If she can get him into the air, she can fly up under him and push him into orbit.
She can blast him with a kadju killer beam, and he has to spend all his stored mana just healing from it if he isn’t instantly vaporized.
And, all the while, he’s getting nada in the way of energy off her, because she’s inside a force field his powers don’t penetrate.
Big V can root himself if need be, Max couldn’t space him in the last fight.
True but he has to be VERY powered up to use special powers like that. Not sure if he’s at that level yet. Might be? But that would just make what ARCHON is doing even dumber as a strategy.
Last time he leveled very quickly when Maxima went landscape-altering on him – this time he was already as strong as Hiro, and since then they’ve remodeled the quarry quite a bit, so he’s probably at least as strong now.
Last time he was already powered up by a 30 super free-for-all brawl BEFORE fighting Maxima. Then fighting mulitple other members of Arc-Swat. Including Stalwart, who stomped on his foot with the weight of the Space Shuttle, Dabbler who was slicing him up, Sydney using her lighthook, and Anvil who stomped him with an assist by Sydney, followed by a nautilus PUNCH. And getting shot IN THE EYE with anti-material .50 calibre ordinance.
All that before fighting Maxima, if I recall.
This time, he was only fighting a few members of Arc-swat (and Detla). MUCH less of a power-up than the restaurant fight. Here, he only fought, in order:
1) Detla
2) Jabberwokky
3) Mathias
4) Ren (who I shall call Blulk or REdliNe until he has an official superhero name because I just want to and I’m a mischievous little scamp)
5) Hiro (who only used boring grappling which probably didnt power Vehemence much because it was so minimally violent, because Hiro is intelligent)
Then Maxima, so he is a LOT less powered up here.
“And, all the while, he’s getting nada in the way of energy off her, because she’s inside a force field his powers don’t penetrate.”
That assumption is fairly unsupported. We don’t even know whether the vehemic energy is created at the target or the attacker in case of a ranged attack. I’m expecting the latter. We don’t know whether the shield blocks vehemic energy – we know it doesn’t block visible light or sound at non-harmful intensities. Vehemic energy doesn’t do anything by itself, so it seems fairly reasonable it won’t get blocked. Even if true, Archon can’t really have tested that.
So I don’t think she can just hurt him, she’d power him up just like everyone else. She has to wear him out by grappling.
We know that it blocks teleportation but not hypnoboobs. Not sure what that actually means in practical terms.
Or signature Squiggy.
(the version with the straight line setup introductions is much better)
Kevin’s going to be real sad after he punches that shield a few times and only manage to waste his vehemence.
I wonder if that’ll be the end of it or if Halo’s going to get to test her energy blasts and teleporting on him. That’d be fun.
Kevin vs Halo, Round 2. The one where he DOESN’T underestimate her threat level. So how’s this going to go?
Sydney’s not going to PPO Kevin. That’s ash-the-brain territory, and it results in either dead Kevin or Super Saiyan Kevin. Probably both, depending on what powers Kevin invents. Kevin’s proven capable of overpowering the light hook even before he hit Power Level Red, so that’s not good for a direct attack either. If Sydney’s figured out how to produce some sort of sleepy gas with the air orb, that might help, but I don’t think she has. Flying’s good for dodging but won’t win the fight, same story with teleporting around via the light bee and also they want to keep that ability secret.
I think either they’re going to trick Kevin into attacking light bee mirages or they’re just going to let him wail on the shield a bit. Either way he uses power and doesn’t get much return. But both of those options are just defense — you need a bit of agro to build threat and force the boss to focus on you rather than the team. Fortunately, Sydney has supernatural ranks in her Taunt ability, but I think Kevin’s just a bit too smart for that to work for long.
Kevin’s face kind of looks like he’s already Dead Kevin + Saiyan Kevin.
I don’t think the mirages will do much (except maybe buy time). Kevin knows she’s squishy, and he probably doesn’t want to kill her. He doesn’t need to spend extra vehemic energy for a punch that would knock Sydney out.
Kevin has already seen the holo-Sydney in the first fight (When he pointed out Death Toll) and knows she isn’t a real image, though her teleport might surprise him, but I think Sydney will want to keep that power secret still and not pull it out for a sparring session.
I don’t think there’s a visible difference between the real Sydney and the hologram, so he’s probably going to fall for it once.
Passing through her shield is a pretty big tip off (as he did in the first fight). Kevin likes Sydney and probably has no real desire to hurt her. In the first fight, he apparently went out of his way to avoid fatalities, even going so far as to make sure Vektor received medical attention. I think this is a bit of Kevin playing a role, as he has been cooperative up til now. For Sydney to be held back til now means that Max is very confident in Sydney’s ability to take him down and for him to not be able to harm her (a valid assumption considering her shield appeared to be able to resist the Kaiju blasts as well as Max’s explosion). The question isn’t “can Sydney beat Kevin?” but is instead “Can Sydney beat Kevin without killing him?”
Which he can only figure out after he tries attacking the hologram, after which he’d realize it anyway. And if Sydney makes a new hologram, he’d have to figure out which one is real again the same way.
Remember the teleport/exchange positions thing? Whichever one he didn’t attack is real.
For whatever reason, when I read Sydney’s Hullo, I read it in Cyril’s (from Archer) impotent Hello tone of voice and I laughed so hard I nearly choked.
For those who don’t know what I am talking about, enjoy: https://youtu.be/akKcBpI48NI
(Eddy Izzard voice) “Cake or death…. Cake… or dearh… hmmmm, can we have cake please?”
Well we’re OUT of cake! We only had 3 bits and we didn’t expect there to be such a rush.
“Well I’ll have the chicken then!”
And I will have the Penne Arribiata.
Amazed nobody said “Boomshanka!” as the Succubi greeting of choice… Though really that’s more fertility centric than sex centric. Also far too straight for Dabbler.
So what else could Dabs say to a woman?
Ummm…
“May your clitoris grow to the size of a penis and become prehensile at will”
Yeah… That’s more Dabb’s style.
Oh good, is Dabbler going to be something *other* than a time-wasting screw-around, now?
May your partner be totally into that thing. You know the one.
May the time you spend cleaning up be just as pleasurable as it was getting dirty in the first place.
I don’t see V being scared of Sydney. He could have defeated her had he been willing to kill her.
Only because she bubbled him to cut off the aura – as long as she keeps him on the other side of the shield, she’s safe.
But can she do anything other than power him up?
She can restrain him with the lighthook(by lifting him up, denying him leverage), trapping him until his power runs out.
Vehemence was able to outpull the lighthook long before he got to this level last time. It’s not going to stop him.
He’s stronger than the lighthook, but like I explicitly said, it’s a matter of bracing and leverage. He can’t pull downwards with more than his bodyweight, so his strength doesn’t help him against being lifted up.
While he can use magic to anchor himself to the ground, this costs him a lot of energy without helping him win, so it’s also a losing game where Sydney can tire him out.
t
Thats no different from wrestling and we have already been shown Kevin is an expert wrestler.
Quite frankly I think the light hook has no chance against a powered up V
Usually in wrestling neither side can fly. If she just grabs him and pulls upwards, there’s nothing he can do without magic, because he can’t brace against upwards motion.
And I don’t think Kevin has a lot of wrestling experience against hard light tentacles.
What makes you think he’s meant to look afraid?
I don’t think he’s afraid of her – that’s kinda the point. While he respects Maxima, and probably some of the others, he actually LIKES Sydney. He’s less likely to seriously hurt her. And face it, she could use the sparring practice.
Since we can’t do the PPO, because ‘brain ash’ or whatever, I’m assuming the main attack will be ‘Grab him with the lighthook and beat him against the cliffs” until she figures she can fly up close, put up Mr Bubble, and then teleport away, somehow leaving V floating suspended in Mr Bubble until he runs out of air
beating him against a cliff would just charge him, and hitting the cliff has shown not to do anything to him via impact. if possible just pick him up with lighthook and hold him against the top of the shield more or less since he gains power from violence in his aura range and the shield cuts into his generated aura holding him near the shield would basically stop his absorption, also when she bubbled him before it didn’t look like she was not affected by his aggro aura at all.
maybe rope him and take him for a flight to someplace calming
geh, tired. I meant to say when she bubbled him the aura had no effect on her (as she didn’t go screaming to attack him or well attack anyone, though thinking about it she did yeet that one speedster but I’m not sure that was while she had him bubbled)
she has probably been experimenting with what can be done with the orbs (now that she doesn’t have to fear vivisection) after all its been shown that the shield doesn’t need her to be the center of its field as shown during the press event when she flew about inside of the shield freely but I’m guessing having her be the fixed center is a default setting
No, Sydney herself noted that she was being affected by the aggro arua, and was preparing to grab the PPO when he said he wouldn’t hurt her.
But we presume she has been doing more training, so I’m excited to see what tricks she has planned.
I don’t think she can teleport and leave the shield in place.
I wonder if during mass spec. testing they found sydney can change the mixture released by the air orb and it just naturally defaults to a breathable mixture.
well we know the shield cuts into his aura (and I think also absorption)
he is smart (or, at least, he’s not stupid), but he won’t surrender now. he’s thinking with his vehemence, not his logic.
or, if you’d rather, he’s thinking with his logic and evaluating what each opponent can do, storing that for later, and now it’s Halo’s turn.
plus, he’s overconfident.
I think Kevin is not being very smart here. They promised him monthly sessions.
He should make his breakout attempt a coupple of months down the line when everyone thinks he is playing nice and he has a better understanding of everyones limits.
Agreed. But I think that’s his power corruption speaking.
Weekly sessions with much less violence would probably be safer.
Remember, Sydney was gone for 53 days when she went through Sciona’s gate; it’s BEEN a couple of months for hm since he was incarcerated.
Kind of agree. He could have waited a bit.
My thought is that Kevin full of power is like certain people on alcohol. They are fine up to a point and then the intoxication takes over and their judgement goes to hell.
I think this is definitely a factor, but I’m not convinced yet that he is planning to break out. Incarceration isn’t ideal, but with these sessions he’s got access to some of the best violence there is. I do expect he’s going to cross a line of some sort during this session – not sure what yet, but I don’t think he’ll escape or try to kill anyone.
Hey doorknob, how’s it hanging?

“I wish you all the pleasures of a prehensile penis!”
The only point of bringing Sydney in, as far as I can see, is to de-power Kevin. He can’t feed off of her, she won’t give him a physical battle like the others. He could try attacking her, but, as long as she is shielded that would be pointless.
Next scene won’t be a fight. It will be him questioning why she is After Maxima.
He may have the power of a brute. But as many have noted he is far from stupid. So he will wonder what makes Halo top.
Vehemence will request playing tabletop RPG instead and Halo will enthusiastically agree.
I expect an epic gaming session, although probably even more boring for the spectators than the wresting and dust clouds.
If you want to get rid of the dust, have Max or Sydney just shoot at the (downwind) wall a little bit. Once they heat it up just a hundred degrees or so, the nearby air will start to rise, and the dusty air will get sucked away like smoke up a chimney.
– shield up
– get enough air
– let him do some work-out
…
– take a nap meanwhile.
Vehemence isn’t stupid, he’ll try to break her shield twice, then stop as he realized he can’t break it and isn’t getting power from it.
For what it’s worth, The Dream Oath Opera made its way into the ABC Classic repertoire (this is in Oz, cobber) and is often let out to play. It is seen in such company as the Star Wars opening theme ffrom “A New Hope”, and Morricone’s themes in Sergio Leone’s “Dollars Trilogy”.
There’s no question in my mind that Uematsu not only raised the bar, he locked it into a really high position. And all in 16-bit with Midi. (But it sounds much better as an actual on-stage Opera with real instruments!)
Hmmm. Well… all Kevin knows about Sydneys PPO is that it can cut a tank like butter. Her shield? Only that it can withstand indirect Maxima fallout. He has no knowledge of her teleportation, her aetherium causeways, her ability to stay bubbled indefinitely and all the little quirks involved.
So I think he’ll try. He can try and make his armor stat maxed out ridiculously. He can try and out brute her shield, or bury her shield in rock, or a bunch of ways.
But he doesn’t understand. The shield is ridiculously invulnerable. The beam is ridiculously powerful. She can fly. She can teleport. All things that will make him exert energy faster than he can generate it. And if she uses an Aetherium Causeway, she can simply put him out in space where he has nothing to exert against and needs to use energy to breathe. Plus, blast him with her beam the whole while, and THERE she can use the light hook to redirect his momentum.
By the way, I think the light hook is plain not going to be useful against Venhemence. In the fight he bucks it off his arm and causes Sydney to cartoonishly lose her footing. Later Max tells her it’s got a strength of about 16 tons, but unless she’s just using it to propel him or direct him it can be resisted and can be wrestled easy. Meanwhile Venhemence can cast an anchoring spell if he sees a lift coming that can stop Maxima from lifting him, can lift Stalwart when he is the weight of a castle, and we do not know his mid air maneuvaring capabilities. Its risky at best to be relying on the lighthook.
But anyways, there are many solutions here for Sydney to consider. We don’t know if an aetherium causeway in an atmosphere is useful, but certainly if he is disoriented somehow, with a blast maybe, he can be quickly launched in the air where more blasts can put him passed orbit. Sydney’s beam is devistating against anything that doesnt have some definite way to deflect light slash superheated plasma. If he armors against it then he still is experiencing a great amount of force that directs him. Plus resisting that has got to take some big energy.
If he can redirect or even absorb the beam, then she can teleport, disorient him. Once passed sattelite heavy orbital space she can open her causeway and dangle him over the sun’s corona. If he doesn’t submit then, resisting suffocation and crisping and the gravity of the sun up close, then he is an idiot.
I agree about the light hook. I’m also not too sure that you would want to try to open an Aetherium Causeway within a planetary atmosphere. This is a good opportunity for Sydney to practice with the other tools in her suite.
I’m still wondering whether she was in-atmo when she popped out of her
churchoffice to get Degrasse-Tyson some answers (and Grakz). The sound effect sure seems to be just outside the building.Close enough to be projected through the window, but outside the building, and we know how well sound propagates in a vacuum.
Kevin isn’t a brute, I’m thinking he might stop because he doesn’t want to fight Sydney. For all his enthusiastic use and provocation of violence, he doesn’t strike me as the sort of creep who gets any jollies from trying to beat up a small girl (albeit an overpowered super Kaiju killing small girl). Even during the big fight, except for one angry punch at her shield (not her, but the shield), he was polite and at best defensive to her attacks. And at the end of the fight it was Sydney who offered him the chance to surrender honourably rather than the alternative of “Max ashes his brain, it’s the only way to be sure”. If Kevin is on a “heel face turn” arc (which seems likely), then stopping rather than fighting Sydney would in the circumstances be entirely appropriate.
I prefer Vehemence as a super villain, not one of the protagonists. But perhaps he could work in a neutral role, like Deus. Like for example if he escapes and decides to not directly attack Arc Swat for now. Perhaps even aid them when it suits him.
Antihero, like Venom
“May you hear you may.”
Because succubi may be succubi, but they still care about consent. After all, why go through the hassle when it’s literally easier to find someone willing?
I’ll go with the sentiment, but let’s never forget all a suucubus needs to to get consent is to gently wave her boobs…
Honestly I’d probably hear Kefka’s theme than Zeromus’s battle music…
Santa Esmeralda’s “Please Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood” as in the battle between The Bride and O-Ren Ishii in Kill Bill.

In case anyone needs a reminder of the scene and the backing music.
May you live to see the hearts broken by your progeny
This one resonated with me, because my son-in-law was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer, of a sort that can’t be cured, but can be managed after a fashion. They are expecting their first, and probably only, child in February. I would like to say this to him, but I don’t know how he would take it.
Hmm… i think sydney would appreciate memelording enough to make Guile’s theme much more appropriate. Then depending on the intensity of the fight we can switch to the doom music.
I would have thought NeoEXDEATH would fit this, too. Really fits someone walking out of a cloud to mess your day up. Also bouncy enough for Sydney.
Vehemence keels over laughing…!
Heeeeey now! Isn’t that just a free xp grinder at that point?
She uses sarcasm. She knows all the tricks. Dramatic irony, Metaphor, Bathos, Puns, Parody, Litotes and Satire.
They’re not very effective! Halo uses Legendary Swears!
Apex heroine status achieved. That ought to be worth a point to spend!
“May your sexual conquests herald general conquest”
Since this is Dabbler specifically talking I assume she was being literal when she said “cataclysmic”
I dont know if V want fight Sydney. He like brawl not killing and with Sydney it will be hadoken Fiesta for his Zangief style, even more anoying than Max two finger pain train
May you be the MC of a harem novel.
