Grrl Power #949 – Hob-nobbin goblin
I far more amused with “tall, bark, and fluffy” than I should be.
Sydney is only just barely on board with attempting polyamorous relationships, and even then, it does seem it’s mostly because the two guys she’s shown the most interest in were already taken. Well, except for Olivia’s half-brother cousin. (Back when I could get away with drawing half-backgrounds in half the panels.)
Okay, we don’t actually know if Tony was attached to anyone at the time, but Sydney never mustered the courage to ask him out, and she hasn’t seen him in the store lately, as she’s only there one and a half days a week now. Still, Sydney’s giving it the ‘ol college try. Just barely.
Digit is your typical scatterbrain inventor, which is a fun trope to play with, but if I had really given it a lot of thought before introducing in inventor into the comic, I think it would have been just as amusing to have an inventor that was super organized and buttoned-up. Like a sexy lady Jamie Hyneman. Which is not a sentence I thought I would ever type again. (I typed it once already in a (non-Grrl Power) Discord I occasionally idle in.) There isn’t a Grrl Power Discord in case anyone was wondering. My attention is already pulled in too many directions for me to manage something like that.
I guess that’s not to say Arc-SPARQ doesn’t have someone like that, but if they ever bumped into Digit, they might mutually annihilate.
We’ve got a brief cameo in the form of Frosty’s Prinrin, a goblin inventor. I’m not sure she’s normally this forward, but that’s how it worked out on this page. :) The Twilight Council has its own engineers, of course, but they work with magical stuff and enchanted things as much as they restore old pumpkin carriages and DeLoreans and whatnot.
If Prinrin does get Frix in bed, she might be the first cameo character that dies in the comic, because there is some evidence that Frix is… unaccommodatable to someone of her stature.
The new vote incentive is up! Some of you got sort of invested in Lapha and Garamm, so here she is testing out her new duds. I don’t know if or when they’ll show up in the comic again, (probably more a question of ‘when’) but we’ll have to see if she got any other options besides the tail. Personally I’d go for retractable, venomous fangs, but presumably if you get those, you also have to get a special upgraded pancreas or liver or something, in case you accidentally bite the inside of your own cheek with your fang.

First time you have to take a pee you will understand why I hated navy dress blue’s. Wool and twenty one buttons, the least gun dress uniform I have ever worn. One of the many reason I went Army, that and working on boat’s sucks if that is all you are doing. They look cool but easy to use is a drawback not a feature.

Flashback81’s got it. Looks like a person, maybe without detail just to blend into the background rather than attract attention, but I think it’s equally likely with the torso decoration that its a golem.

In one comic I remember the goblin kept getting a bit taller and taller during the adventure the more she conquered “tall” males. Standing next to the oversexxed sorceress vixen- “Are you getting shorter?” “no…but you might be getting taller.” “Maybe. Can’t think of why though.” Vixen makes a remembering face and “I have a few ideas” Goblin “Were you in any of those flash backs?” “Maybe…” “I got it, you’re not getting shorter but fatter. You preggers?” Look of horror on Vixen sorceress. “Or maybe it’s just all the pastries we always eat” (joke ongoing about their love for cream filled pastries and pies). “Oh look some ogres. Let’s burn some calories.” Starts to cast a spell. Goblin is already off panel and her clothing is still standing where she was all two pieces. Vixen looks wide eyed at next panel which is full of hearts and grunt sound action-nomopias . She shrugs…”Well I know how she’s getting taller…but if you can’t beat em join em…// need tofind that comic again. It used 3D models for it.

Yup, that is the thing about an open/polyamorous relationship Sydney, it’s not just you who gets to try and fool around with others (unless that was part of the agreement, but I’m not sure if Sydney and Frix sat down and had a conversation on what boundaries to set yet).
I don’t think Frix is aware that Sydney is interested in a poly relationship yet period. Like, I know this is being played for laughs but I’m seeing in Sydney the worst traits of a bad girlfriend because of shit like this. She’s possessive except when it’s coming from her, jealous when it’s coming from another partner or to another partner from elsewhere, and as far as I know predicated on the idea that she just went for that tech guy who’s name I forgot despite whatever that thing with Frix was supposed to be. I don’t even know if he’s aware what level of commitment she’s expecting from him, but it’s apparently a lot more than she’s let on.
She’s got all the hallmarks of a possessive, narcissistic, jealous girlfriend who’s okay messing around but not okay with her partner(s) doing the same and can’t handle implied competition. It clear she doesn’t trust her current partner to not be attracted to goblin girl, despite the vague nondescript exclusivity she’s pushing in his direction. The fact that she’s derping out over it says a lot that she doesn’t understand relationships, polyamory, or even her current partner all that well.
Yeah it makes for a funny panel of her freaking out, but it also makes her look like a pretty shitty person overall. Which is fine, I guess if that’s what Dave is trying to go for but if it’s not, well, something has gone off the rails somewhere in search of the lulz.
so far I will give her a pass. this is the first time she’s had to confront it. she’s in denial about Frix and Cora, and is ignoring Dabbler + Frix. she so far is trying to deal with it herself. she hasn’t tried to ‘pee on Frix’s leg’. Lots and Lots of people have trouble realizing goose and gander things before being confronted with it.

My Hero Academia has one of those kinds of female inventors as well, constantly generating incidents but when properly managed she’s exceptionally capable.

I don’t know, lolis typically look or at least dress either like children or like dolls regardless of their actual age… In fictional media they must be short, but in the real world loli is just a rococo inspired fashion genre, and most of the people who wear it are quite a bit larger than children.

Poor Sydney. It’s really hard, if not impossible, to be in a poly-amorous relationship where it’s only the partner that actually is like that. This means you still feel guilty if you actually try and get together with someone else… if you even want to try at all, and can feel left out at the same time. (I’ve been there)
Only if you’re a-sexual yourself or a “once in a blue moon” type of person and love them enough to have their physical needs met, but not leave you in the process, you might pull it off.
But anyone who is fairly interested in a relationship, would like the idea of their partner NOT screwing around.
And Sydney is CLEARLY the one woman, one man/space-woof type of girl.

I mean, it’s hard to be poly if you’re mono, but it’s really not hard to be in a long-term, loving poly relationship. I’ve been poly with my wife since before we were married, she and I have both had multiple other partners at various times, neither of us are ace, we’re just not naturally monogamous and we have lots and lots and lots and lots of conversations about how we’re feeling about things.

Poly people are allowed limits. Sydney can veto certain people if the relationship allows that. But this is a discussion for those in the relationship.
Point being she doesn’t have to say yes to everyone who shows interest in her partner and it doesn’t look like frix is that interested anyway.
Vetos are generally a bad idea, would not recommend. It’s the kind of thing a lot of new people to poly do, often ending in resentments, and a lot of hierarchical poly has stuff like that, but I don’t think I’ve known people for whom actual hierarchical poly worked (other than sometimes the people in the “most important” relationship).
Sorry I didn’t explain it well. I’m in a poly relationship and we have a veto system. But we only use it if the reason is valid.

If it’s just a ‘no because I’m jealous’ thing we tend to talk it out and figure out why the jealousy is there then try to resolve it.
I am not going to date or sleep with someone who makes my other partners unhappy, this means they get a say in who I am interested in. I get to make the ultimate decision but I will always take their thoughts and feelings into account because that’s how communication in ANY relationship should work.
Sydney can do the same here. She can tell Frix that the idea of Prinrin and him getting it on is uncomfortable to her and maybe during that discussion they can figure out why. Maybe its just jealousy, maybe its a genuinely bad vibe she’s getting Either way she should be able to express her feelings on the matter.

One interpretion i haven’t seen coming up yet is, that our green newcomer isn’t really into “trying out a wuff” but just heared about syds relationship with him (from a blue haired sempa vi who wants to test how far syd is with her poly story maybe?)and wants to tease her.
You assume that the two things are seperate. Given the stated, shown and frequently lionised predilictions of both Dabbler and of the work’s creator, this seems unlikely.
