There are a number of reasons this guy might be trying to explosively de-dress Max. One hopes he’s not in league with paparazzi, though I’d wager a super slow-mo shot of that grenade going off in Max’s golden, invincible cleavage would garner heavy interest. If that’s the case though, I can’t imagine what that guy’s cut must be to trade punches with Maxima.
The word “denude” means to strip something. It seems to me that it should mean to dress something. That word and “inflammable” will cost us points when the aliens come to evaluate us for ascendency.

On a totally unrelated note, did you know that Anvil and She-Hulk are both 6’7″? I didn’t know that when I decided on Anvil’s height. It just seemed like a good height that was super tall without being crazy over-tall. Also, Anvil’s family moved around a lot, but she primarily identifies as a Lousiander and can supply a Nawlins accent upon demand. Her shirt is the Louisiana flag, which is… weird. It’s clipart of a pelican on a blue or slightly indigo or teal-adjacent background. Opinions seem to differ.

On ‘English is crazy’:
I recently learned the origin word of ‘disembowel’. It’s ’embowel’. It means the same thing. Somehow.
Dis embowel, dat embowel, da other embowel.
Logically “embowel” should mean to give bowels, not take them, but English isn’t much for that sort of logic. I wonder if it was originally a contraction of some sort?
logically so, but outside of organ transplant surgery, how often do you put bowels into a living thing? for usage, moving bowels would generally mean taking out, but logically it would be ‘dis’ for ‘making it not contain bowels’
Fairly sure ’embowel’ is like ’embed’, in which you are inserting the bowel, which means that ‘disembowel’ is the reversal of that, or, simply, the removal of the bowel
GTDragon called it right. It has exactly the same meaning as “disembowel”. It is just an archaic/obsolete version of it.
I imagine people got fed up with the illogic of it.

debowel, which would be correct, sounds awkward. disembowel, which breaks down to un-add-bowel is also correct, and flows better, but in an odd way.
Embowel – to remove the bowels
Dis – to treat with disrespect or contempt
Disembowel – to remove the bowels with disrespect or contempt
So…how did the bra survive the explosion?
Probably made from some very durable material like Fantastic Four suits that made from unstable molecules. Even if you explosive/fire proof you don’t wanna end fully naked in combat. Especially if fight happens in public place where someone can record whole fight.
In the case of the FF, the point wasn’t to make the suit especially durable, (Except for the Thing.) it was so the suits would survive or not render moot their powers. Stretch through a keyhole for Mr. Fantastic, turn invisible when Susan did, not burn up when the Torch lit up.
Maxima has very strong willpower.
It weakened a bit when Hiro was standing in front of her, under similar circumstances.

Probably because the closer the clothes are to her skin, the more protected they are by her ‘armor’ if her armor works like a Kryptonian biomatrix or Superboy’s Tactile telekinesis.
I want body armor made out of the same material as her underwear. It took a grenade point blank and isn’t even frayed.
It is body armour, in the classic barbarian style, but modernised. Note how it protected all her body too. It looses all effectiveness if it covers too much skin though.

In the only tournament I ever participated in, I won my first round with that ruling….and lost the second bout after almost time out as my next opponent simply wouldnt commit.
As for Max, well, this IS a valid form of foreplay for superpowered Brutes.

Guess a lot of us were wrong about Max going ham on dude. It looking more like a protracted Vehemoth kind of thing now. And I could be wrong about that too. Other than titillating I can’t see how undressing Max will be an advantage to the enemy. Welp, we know dude is fast, dexterous, durable and perverted.
And getting paid for what he is doing (check his dialogue on the previous comic page).
He mentioned bounty’s on her alive or dead though some may just be to embarrass her.
Public humiliation could be enough to make her or others if they were in her position to want to change job.
i can see the sleigt of hand option being valied, but the first grande is in the chest (inside of a leather jacket) after a slug to the knee and a punch from Max and then Ray. right arm isn’t in postion so must hav been his left one, Yet that would be in maximas field of vision.
The second grande i can get a better feel for.
Again right hand is out of opration (it’s what he’s throwning the punch with) so again leftie is the deliver the package. and here he has plenty of time during the toss to plant it. and this is more believeable because it’s abit of a planned event. i throw a punch and sneak a grande behind her.
But that first one grande? bang”WTF did i get hit with..”, Pow “ARgh”. whud “okey..” and then hehe i planted a bomb on something that blindsided me?

Trouble with that is, he still has all his grenades at the end of that page.

Which may be significant. But I do not worry too much about that. The author has been known to forget to draw something (or in this case forget not to).
It is easy enough to envisage how the ‘oops’ could make sense, if we felt the urge to do so.
Those grenades are really small, so he could have a couple in pockets. Using one (or both) to plant them with the first blindside. That way he is not giving an enemy a clue by leaving a big gap in his bandolier.
But he also clearly enjoys one-upping his foes, and making them realise that things are just about to go horribly wrong probably gives him extra kicks. So, at the last moment (when there is not enough time left to do anything about it) he can covertly swap the visible bandolier grenade, into his pocket. Whilst gleefully hoping that Max would spot the missing grenade (perhaps positioning himself to make it fall right in her eyeline).
I read about a clown using a power that works similar to this. His own hammer space like ability combined with close range small item teleportation. Works great for juggling tricks or knife fighting, including stealing opponents weapons.
On re-reading, I suddenly see Max channeling some Metal Gear Solid in panels 2 and 4, and now I can’t unhear her sudden alarm.
This is a funny page… I think Maxima is going to be more than a little upset when she realizes that the guy is basically playing “Strip-ima!” with her.

He said there were bounties on her, “Some are D.O.A., but the better paying ones are…”

… and I just realized it’s probably either Deus or Dabbler that put up that “better paying” bounty.
more likely bad guys would pay more for her dead than Dabbler or Deus would pay for nudes. The higher paying ones are much more likely for either live capture, or for a thorough mapping of her abilities, learning the upper limits of each in order to be able to better prepare for a future encounter.
which would explain, now that I think of it, the planting grenades; to see how nimble you gotta be to get away with it. Dabbler probably has micro cameras hidden all over the place; she probably has terabytes of naked Max pics that she would never ever let Max know she has.
The attack blew out her throat-comm. Pretty bad for the team if that’s a prime objective of this attack.
You know when I come back to this page, I have to say this guy’s finesse is actually pretty impressive. She’s absolutely working him over when he gets in range, but he’s managing to slip those flash bangs/nades in with out being exactly noticed at first. He’s two for two while throwing punches and being used as a jack hammer. Here’s the thing… it’s pretty obvious that those aren’t doing anything to her and his actual punches hit a lot harder. What are the odds that someone or some organization is paying him a LOT of money to effectively take a fall here to get risque photos of what is arguably the US military’s most powerful woman? How much do you think someone like Deus would pay to have those in his personal collection especially given his failure in advances?
I don’t know that we know his actual punches hit a lot harder. The one punch he got in that actually did anything to Maxima was when her armor was down so she could maximize speed, and all it did was throw her and make her jaw “clicky”. Now she’s running her “trade punches with a tank” settings, and he hasn’t landed another punch. He’s not two for two, the second time he tried punching her, she grabbed his arm and did a judo throw.
At this point we don’t know what one of his punches would do if it landed.
great work on the vote incentive! So many people draw She-Hulk as either a skinny track and field type, or a grossly ‘roided up she-man. You’ve over-boobed her by a cup size or two, but you did a fantastic job of portraying what an active, well muscled female form is supposed to look like! Superior work!
Thanks! I struggle with not drawing “fit” women too muscular, so it’s fun to cut loose every once in a while.
