Grrl Power #87 – I can see why this might be cause for concern
We already knew that the orbs grant her powers, I mean, she’s the main character of a superhero comic. Whatever you thought was in the tube, it was obvious it let her hang with supers, but for all the Archon people knew, the tube just contained the holy Spork that Jesus used at the last supper, and it only grants the power to eat both soup and meatballs with the same utensil, or the dying flatus of Gogmagog or something.
And don’t worry, I’m not going to reveal an orb per page for the next 6 weeks. We’ll get through them faster than that.
Oh, and I meant to post this originally with the comic, but it was 1:30 am when I did and I forgot, but if you’re looking for some other amusing superhero webcomics to fill the week long gap between updates here, I’ve been enjoying Love and Capes. It’s got a nice toony art style and is cute and funny, sort of a super hero romantic comedy, lots of referenced to super hero tropes, definitely worth checking out. I have plenty more to recommend but I’ll stick to one a week for a while (when I remember) since some of them have decent sized archives.
Also, I realize after seeing the page fresh after spending all weekend nose down in it that Maxima’s waist and hips are way too small. That’s a bad art habit of mine, I need to keep an eye on that. It’s weird how some artists have blind spots for proportion when looking at their own art, I’m sure you can think of plenty of examples.
I LOVE the mother of god reference, but even better is the little ‘where did you get those glasses’ thingy from Zephan
Loving the look on Maxima’s face in panel 5!
As for the general liking anime you have no less the a dozen military bases he could have been stationed at in Japan at some point in his life.3 army 3 air forces and 7 or 8 marine, navy doesn’t count no generals. As for the glasses the pockets on the outside on a dress uniform jacket are for show and don’t work however there are ones on the inside. As for why he needs them dramatic effect and reading really small things I suspect, or seeing farther away he just doesn’t need them all the time.
You say that with PRIDE. needs more venom in it. Before long Sydney will have Max tossing the old D20 again or 2d10 for training with using their powers.
Sydney’s true power lies in the fact that her hair can defy gravity.
So, seems her ability to substitute ‘confuse’ is contagious. That, or the General has it too.
I know these are Flash Backs … Sydney telling us what had happened in the past from the September 13th, 2010 comic (has it been that long???).
Now I see a Flash Back on a Flash Back coming … she has to describe how and/or when she found the orbs – in her minds eye version. (Filled with a lot of funny things happening, of course.)
two flashback’s. her version and what really happened
I prefer to think of the opening of the comic as a flash-forward, and that this is real time. Albeit comic book time.
You are definately operating in web comic time. Things aren’t advancing near fast enough for comic-book time. ;)
I agree because most people edit or exaggerate when remembering things to show themselves in a better light. The cuss-storm she had outside the bank was not necessary to the story and she probably would not have mentioned it.
BTW I enjoy stories that follow a logical path even if it is a logic all it’s own. Yours is such a tale. Movie (or books, etc) that break their own logic cause me to stop watching or reading them. Bending is fine but a total break with the set logic irritates me to no end.
I think Sydney would instead regale us with a tale of her most epic cuss hurricane, as it were. Heck, I’ve used part of it in a game, lol. In Vindictus you could create your own little custom message that everyone would see before the instance started, and mine was “Who’s up for some gonorrhea milkshakes?” I got a lot of laughs from people with it, lol.
it’s a shame Sydney only has 6 of them. if she had 9 then frame 1 could have them orbiting her like a mini solar system
Seven actually. The first orb was show off this week.
yeah your right, there’s 7, I miscounted, there again you should know, you drew it.just as well it’s not a mini solar system you need to draw the rings of Saturn, then there’s all the moons.
I assume each stone give a different or ability (mental image of Sydney under fire whilst frantically searching for the right stone)
i’m repeating everyone else, but we can really see the ioun stones comment.
I am also really interested in how DaveB will resolved the question about what happens when someone other than Sydney will grab a stone. (Max is my best guess so far since she already “volunteered” to grab the tube)
We can also see why her name is Halo, although i think that the stones are a triffle too big. It’s only my personnal opinion, but…
I definitively think that the stones should be reduced in size.
Comments on that?
I stand behind my “Tom and Jerry” multi-slam on whoever tries it.
If you’re going to call Tom & Jerry effects, I think you have to wait until two different team members try it, just for the image of ‘Tom’ getting an Anvil dropped on his head. (Well, if Dave’s going to use names associated with classic cartoon moments…)
Anvil schamvil I want the 180 degree back and forth over the head floor-slam. Classic cartoon violence! :D
That’s what I’m talking about! ;) Either Anvil or Max could take the punishment.
bad adamas no hot water! anvil has shown no reason to deserve such cruelty and max has suffered halo enough today without being hit with the biggest known team member.
But the comedy, Oh the comedy would be SO delicious.
Ok, how about Achilles?
Yeah they actually do look a little big to me, I’m still playing with the size. They’re supposed to be about the size of a baseball or tennis ball, and how big they look will be affected by how near they are to the ‘camera’ as they orbit her, I’m still getting a feel for how they should look. I’ll get it figured out eventually.
At that size she could, conceivably, hold 2 stones in each hand giving her access to 4 powers at a time but not all 7. That could be very interesting.
Of course this is Sydney were talking about. She’s short, it dosn’t matter if her hands are a little bit bigger than normal for a girl her size, they would still be too small to hold two in one hand.
it could also be a question of concentration,, she might need contact but also need to consciously draw the power from theorb
hum…
baseball or tennisball…?
No, i still think they should really be marble or big marble size, no more than an inch in diameter.
Why?
because a reduced size for the marbles give a better effect for the halo of sydney.
Also too big of a size and i actually can see a weakness for the new heroine: her reduced field of vision. She already have glasses, if you impaired her further…
They seem to orbit above her head, out of her line of sight.
I love the line from Sidney of “You! Say that with pride!” in response to Maxima’s comment about how she used to be a nerd.
only one question: why didn’t the tube break when maxima pulled on it? sure the stones would stay, but their container would not.
She wasn’t giving it anything close to a full strength tug. She wanted there to be something left of Sydney other than a long red smear.
It’s like holding an egg. You close your hand untill it firmly but gently is in place. Then you don’t squeeze when you move the object around.
Ever tried to crush a raw egg in your palm? Really hard.
Same reason she didn’t rip a hole in the ambulance when picking it up.
She grabbed the tube by a structural point???
Okay, this isn’t related to this comic, it’s just one of the rotating cast images, but where does the image of Sydney holding up a baby who’s wearing a royal and carrying a scepter come from?
It’s from a couple pages back when she said she was gonna name her child after herself. She has this pre-conceived notion that anyone with “the third” in their name is similar to royalty.
5-6 pages ago when the General mentioned how odd it was for a girl to be named Sydney Scoville “JR.”
Oh the cast thing at the top is random, I thought it changed depending on who was in that comic (it lined up the 3 or 4 times I checked).
That orb really does let her fly in an aggravating manner. All through Syd’s roll all I could think was, why isn’t her hair moving? It’s like gravity wants nothing to do with her anymore.
Over at the Whateley Academy website one of the main characters, Billy/Tenyo has her own personal gravity field. No matter what position she is in, her hair and clothing remain orientated as if she was standing or sitting normally. Sydney seems to get the same effect from this particular stone. Looks like she’s a one at a time power user, getting the power from whatever stone she holds, unless she can hold two at the same time and mix and match.
2 at a time. Cast page, powers partially listed.
That creates an interesting plot device because depending on how the spheres interact she has a huge variety of powers available by mixing and matching two different spheres. If you have seven spheres that makes for 49 different combinations.
actually it’s only 42 if she is already holding one of them she only has 6 others left to choose so therefore 7 x 6 == 42. (permutations and combinations are a fun thing.) :P mind you is she only uses one of the balls with no combinations then she can have 49 different powers. (just thought of that before i hit the send)
P
“…actually it’s only 42 if she is already holding one of them she only has 6 others left to choose so therefore 7 x 6 == 42.”
Her orbs contain the purpose and answer to the Universe! (Read: Hitchhiker’s Guide…)
Nah that’s not true.
As we all know, “6 times 9” is 42. This is derived from the Hitchhiker’s Guide. Now, what does this tell us? The universe operates in base-13, not base-10, as we have previously been held to believe. So, according to true hitchhiker knowledge, Sid has 7×6 = 33 (in base 13).
She’s close to the magical number, but note quite there.
(Now who’s the biggest geek? :P)
28 different combinations, actually, counting lone spheres. She can’t hold the same sphere twice, and (presumably) red-green has the same effect as green-red.
actually there may be a synergistic effect depending on which is in her primary hand so Red-Green could possible have a different effect then Green-red
Unless of course it’s a show never heard of the Green Red show.
Quando omni flunkus moritati :D
I am woman, hear me roar. I’m in charge get over it.
Sit down!
Your latin doesn’t work very well. Try this : si non omnia, mors effixnit – If all else fails, feign death.
I thought the title of the show was the Red Green show. It was the main charictors name.
Thus my point that the sequence of colors is significant.
good point. never thought of that. but then again the powers may be slightly different depending on the order they are grabbed. kind of like the sound my bass will produce will be slightly different if I have the wah pedal before the distortion box or vice versa.
This totally reminds me of the old TV show “Jackie Chan Adventures”, with the 12 Magical Talismans based on the Zodiac.
Each one gave a specific power (Ox = Super Strength, Rooster = Levitation/Telekinesis, Rabbit = Super Speed, etc.), but some combinations could create newer powers when held at the same time (Rooster+Rabit = Super Sonic flight).
Loved that show…
By far, the greatest Jackie Chan Franchise, but then they tried moving past talismans….it got awkward…
Well the actual animals with the powers wasn’t so bad; until the end (I was expecting an actual dragon, not for them to revive Shindu), and super-Jade before that where each finger and her tongue…which is 11, not sure they used anything forthe tiger power for that bit. I wish they had come up with a better power for the tiger than (balance the other talismans meaning it splits things between their positive and negative sides and refuses them).
Of course with her having to use a hand, using two stones will actually make her pretty much useless to to anything else.
So, let’s hope she gets some sort of fixture to fix them to her body (If it’s only physical contact taht’s needed).
considering one of the spheres is a form of Psychokinesis?
Uh huh, and if she holds a third or more, how many combinations then?
Just had an image of her with one in her mouth and frantically trying to hold as many as possible in her hand at once.
in fact, we could imagine tests by Archon where they try to see if skin contact instead of hand-contact is required for activating a sphere.
Lol!
Sydney in her underwear as they put all the spheres on her body!
Especially if it turns out she goes commando (Obviously she doesn’t require a bra)
you’re risking your life with such a comment, especially against a level 3 blast or worse a level 5 spiced breath.
and i am sure dabble would voluntteer to help with those tests :)
She could hold one under each armpit as well as in each hand.
It’d be uncomfortable, but doable.
well is skin contact is what is needed,, then i could easely see her put two in her bra:)
be nice to have SOMETHING there , eh? :P
I love this page, I laughed so hard the whole time and now I want dramatic glasses. I imagine Sydney’s voice being like King Leonidas’s in 300 when he shouts “This is Sparta”.
YOU!! SAY. THAT. WITH. PRIDE!!!!
And it looked like Maxima was trying to keep from saluting or something, just from responding to the tone….
With that tone of comand it’s either salute or get kicked out the winow in cinematic fasion.
Hi Dilbert.
Defenestration FTW!
So much funny
1.Nerd Pride!
2. With Great power comes great messing around (Wheeee!)
3.Dramatic glasses removal ! (even funnier as he got some glasses out just for that)
https://www.missmab.com/Comics/Vol_621.php (relevant link)
I’m a little bit disappointed with the dramatic glasses – clear pilot glasses, really?
A pince-nez – perfect!
Clark Kents glasses? Also good.
Or Ben Franklins from “National Treasure” :-D
They’re big old person magnums like what everyone wore in the 60s and 70s
AH!!! the old BCG’s from the military…
So, apparently the general is an anime nerd? :P
Nerds come from all walks of life.
Nah, like the page before last said, he has grandkids. It’s likely he’s absorbed a few things to be able to interact with them, and Sydney’s orbs clearly aren’t Silver Imperium Crystals.
Just because he’s watching with his grandkids, dosn’t mean he’s not enjoying the show as well.
You also see that they are floating around her head… hence her super name Halo.
Love it!
Ok, so I haven’t commented in a very long time. Love the nerd pride line. Also have to add I’m suddenly curious what happens if someone other than Sid tries to grab a stone? :)
I’m sure that will never ever come up in the comic. Or probably on the next page.
I actually am pretty sure that its happened before….
Proof: https://www.grrlpowercomic.com/archives/370 (indirect; but still…)
You know, I think Arianna wants Syd to join Archon just because of the way she talks to Max, and gets away with it. Any super powers are a bonus
Well, I think Maxima needs a friend who’s not intimadated by her physique or powers.
She’s probably puts up a military I’m in charge air to every body else, so dosn’t have many close friends.
from theyr respective bio,, maxima seem to be in good friedly term with peggy and kenya,,, but yes she seem the type to have few friends
I think Peggy was in her Unit before ARCHON, and Kenya is the only person bigger then she is.
So Peggy knew her before her change and Anvil isn’t intimidated by her strength because her powers allow her to absorb hits.
i dont think max had a change,, but she and peggy did become friend while on tour of duty and when they where both injured
as for kenya, its more a suport born friendship,,, as they both stand out pretty much anywhere they are
DaveB told a little of her backstory in the comments section a few months ago, I don’t remember which one. You’ll have to look it up yourself.
DR:TL (didn’t read; too long)
yep, he waist is definately too weird there. Unless you want to promote anorexia, ofcourse.
You know, until today, I always thought DR;TL was some weird kind of error that occasionally crops up. Thanks for explaining that abbreviation.
You mean it doesn’t stand for ‘Damage Resistance correlates to Tech Level’? Aw, man….
Slim waisted isn’t anorexic. You can kinda use an anorexic as an anatomy skeleton. Bout the only bones you wont see are the inner ear bones. Known plenty of ppl with wasp waists.
I fly around like that in my dreams some times. It is more floating then flying but still awesome.
Me to. I fly feet down about thirty feet up in the air. Can only go about sixty mph.
And for some strange reason have trouble flying under or around power lines. Messes up my flight somehow.
I’ve also dreamed I was super strong. My body felt like it only weighed 10% of what I actualy weighed. Also felt like my body was made of cardboard,so I had to be careful not to stress it too much. I could sort of skip jump at a high speed around 50 mph or so. Had to be very careful where I aimed my jumps.
I fly alot in dreams; *I wont go into detail on the whole powers limited by possesed host theme my dreams have* but basically it means limitations on powers in different dreams (and jumping between bodies in the same dream) so different flight patters. I have had flapping arms like a bird, wings on my back, levitation, something I call “Air Skimming” (its where you can levitate and move quickly just over the surface of objects, on the ground its like skating, but use your hands and you can go up the side of a building, and kind of fly/really awkwardly by focusing it on tree limbs; so its a kind of climbing kind of flying mix that way). Done flying in the air; tend to spin in place though when trying to remain feet down head up, like stuck in a gyro. For some reason in my dreams it is easier to fly slow and often with my back towards the ground (like floating), if I want to go fast I tend to have to aim both arms in that direction; and then (zoom!)
In some I can control my direction and speed via hand and arm gestures; feels kind of like a Dr. Strange sort of thing to do.
Right so far. Ability: flight.^^
I just realised she is spinning AROUND THE STONE!
Oh hey, good point. If you look at how the stone is placed relative to the chair it does look that way. Might not mean all that much – Sydney just might think that way at the moment so that is how the flight manifests.
All the better to make an unsettling impression. The ‘aerobatics around the room’ trick is just showing off; she’s going for a slow, controlled single-axis rotation of herself and the items in her immediate circle of influence (hair, clothes, orbiting Orbs), centering attention on the Orb that makes it all possible.
And that’s on the gentle cycle wait till she uses the heavy-duty setting.
Wait till she switches to agitate.
is she High Efficiency?
She just reminded me of the times I spent in laundromats watching my clothes in a front load washer or dryer.
Isn’t “Agitate” her default setting? And does she blush from top to toes if anyone mentions a “Gentle” cycle…cause this one time on a dig…through a comic storage room…in the back of an old cargo airplane flying through a storm in the Andes…
Max knew Ioun Stones! Woot! And yes girl, you say it with pride!
The general keeps those glasses around just so he can put them on, and then take them off dramatically. He sometimes puts them on just as he says something dramatic, or makes a pun.
‘snif’ I feel so proud.
Horatio Caine
Wait… why is Syd’s hair not falling down while she is upside down?
Syd is in a personal Gravity field that is completely separate from the planet’s
Not completely separate or the planet would leave her behind. :P
how do we know it didn’t at some point when she was experimenting?
Kinda frightening… and a damn good idea.
Not really inertia would cause her to follow the planet because she still has the same speed and vector. Not to mention the air pressure and anything else that exerts a force on her.
Thank you. Glad to see somebody understands the consequences of creating a gravity field.
Rule of cool, and Rule of funny override physics. ;)
It is most UNcool to strand a super-heroine in space just for giggles that’s a villain move.
Ahh but think of Shadowcat, she has to actually work to keep herself on earth when she phases, by now it’s almost instinct, but she phased once while unconscious and went THROUGH the planet.
Just proof that some comics pay no attention to actual science.
Some comics?
Hey I was trying to be nice. Which isn’t easy for a cynical, grouchy old pessimist like me. Although compared to the trolls and flamers out there (internet) I’m a cute little cherub spreading sunshine rainbows and kittens.
That and its just a localized gravity bubble that exist with in a greater gravitational field. Basically she is the Earth and the Earth is the sun; she has created a seperate gravity field for her to obey, while that personal field is its self being held in place by the larger gravitational body (the Earth). Its basically why despite the sun being a greater gravitational force that holds the planets in place that we don’t fly off the Earth towards the sun.
First, Sydney is officially my favorite comic character now.
Having her own private gravity field made me think. She would be able to accelerate at insane rates. If she relies on the gravity to accelerate and move around, it would act on her body and area around her equally, which would mean little if any G-force pressure. You would just need to be sure you have a force field up to deflect all the bugs colliding with you at mach 15, and of course, stop you from bursting into flames from the air friction.
I see an orb combo.
Need. More. COMIC!
Hats off to ya DaveB this is epicosity in the making.
I can’t wait till Max and Sydney have that mock battle to make sure she can handle her self before admittance into ARCSWAT. That is going to be good…. That is going to happen right?
Panel 6, is it just me or does the poster tube close on its own?
That’s the bottom of it as it fell off her lap.
I think that is the bottom of the tube we’re seeing.
Way of showing off the first orb, or ball, an its gravitonic powers. (One of the greatest powers one can have.) Reminds me of the tech seen in “Ultra Violet” where our heroine vampire has one gravitonic generator in her super cycle an can alter the degree of gravity emanation to ride on the side of buildings an vehicles. Neat to say the least. An 6 more to come. Even better if she can mix an match powers too. She just may be the Weapon X of the group.
Also why can’t the orbs change size as they will? I’d gather they they somehow draw power from the very universe itself. Or maybe an adjacent continuum. I’ll let the metaphysicians an particle physicists work that out.
I also like the idea that someone like Maxima was a nerd once. Now she’s a super powered military trained golden babe.
Little piece of trivia for you “gold babe” was what I called Max for like… 2 years until I came up with a better name for her – it wasn’t Maxima either. It was Ultima. Even then she was one of my most powerful characters. Maxima was a skinny weed of a girl who was by far my physically strongest character, via tactile TK. Even stronger than Max and the one guy who was stronger than her. Eventually I swapped their names cause I kept thinking of “Ultima” going “I’ve got to max out my armor/speed/what have you” The girl who was first Maxima, then Ultima may show up, but probably not with that name.
Its always odd to have a whole list of characters and try to figure out how and when to use them. I have one/two I’d like to use more; but I designed her based on a video game mechanic (day/night) a character that would change her outfit, personality, and even the way her powers perform based on if it is day or night. Kind of difficult it turns out to write about in Novel form…actually I have tons of characters I’ve come up with that its hard to figure out how to work into the main story with out being like (oh hey, here’s this random person with a complex back story….okay bye now random complex crazy person that the readers may or may not have wanted to see more of).
I had a charecter who’s power shifted between Magic and Cybernetics when his hometown did. One day the city looks like New York, the next it’s like Camelot on Steroids.
I had a guy who had a decentralized nervous system(brain nodes) a very hard cartlige in place of his bones, could absorb almost the entire spectrum of energy (electro-magnetic, heat, telakinetic) and turn that energy into body mass i.e. muscle and cartlige. He could extend any part of his body, and could heal instantaniously as long as he had the energy available.
I knew I had her stashed away somewhere on the Internet.
Her day time form is “Cookie Clean” and her night time form is “Dark Cookie”
https://forum.darkness.com/topic/71150-the-world-of-rhuen/page__st__660
she is post 663 and 665
and man it was years ago I made her 2009. I do have her in a book I wrote (hopefully to be published someday).
So was Maxima a skinny girl before she got her powers?
If so please show at least a before and after picture. Maby as a incentive page.
No, it was a different character entirely, only she was called Maxima to start.
OK, just curious.
btw how does max have such toned muscles does she bench press a train?
The important thing about that gravity sphere is that gravity is still down to Sydney’s frame of reference. That makes it impressive.
Does she actually need to fondle her balls to use her powers or can she just think it? (Yeah, another ball joke. Let’s just all get it out of our systems ;p ).
right now she has to be holding a sphere to activate it. Hence why she’s limited to only two active at one time.
…but couldn’t she hold one in her mouth?
Hopefully, it’s just about pure physical contact, otherwise using two makes her pretty much useless for anything else.
They’ve gotta come up with some kind of ball-bearing to hold them to her body.
A device to keep orbs confined near her body? I think that might be considered a bra.
Apparently that won’t work, as they prefer to spin around her head unless held in a fist. (I’m just assuming that from story context – she’s called Halo, not bra girl.) The “preference” may be strictly utilitarian (like a gun, the orbs may not function well unless in an actual fist), or possibly personal preference. i.e. one or more of the orbs may have a rudimentary personality that objects to being stuffed in a bra. Why would an orb have a personality? Same reason they can fly and grant super-powers: I don’t know. No indication of personalities beyond a few off-hand comments from Sydney, though, which means there is effectively none – people will anthropomorphise a hammer, given half a chance…
especially when said hammer hits their thumb
ioun stones, ioun stones, what are ioun stones?
Ioun Stones are magical items in Dungeons and Dragons. They’re small crystals that orbit around the user’s head. They generally produce minor magical effects like bonuses to stats, minor healing, or producing light. If I remember correctly, rarer ones could produce slightly more potent effects. While they’re floating around the user’s head, they produce their effects, and a user can have quite the cloud of them if they own more than one..
Sydney’s globes seem to be Ioun Stones on steriods.
DaveB, I have noticed that some of the comics that I read update about 3 times a week. They also don’t do colors on their comics. So if you were to not use colors, you could produce these a lot faster. I likethe color and all, but you keep talking about wanting to make these faster.
The thing is that after a year it’s amazing how much of a comic relies on the colors. The spheres being a fresh example. Earlier, how would we have known Max was in the bank, or that she had gold skin until someone mentioned it?
I’d love to produce the comic faster. I really need to find a way, but I’d like to avoid taking a step back with the art.
I guess I could start messing around with photoshop and corel, get my painting skills back in order and give you a hand on coloring duties. I’ll make a few calls in the morning to see if I can’t get my code back for CS5. Bloody brother borrowed it and hasn’t given me the box back, lol.
He probably registered the code. But if you did before he could it’s in your computer. Finding it will be a chore but it will be there if you registered it.
Naw I’ve reformated since then. Something got into my system and made it so I couldn’t get online at all.
I love the art. The colours really make it work. I can wait.
while increase in quantity would be nice this comic is quality over quantity, i like it that way
I agree. One of the reasons this is one of my top five webcomis is the art. So just develop patience lik the rest of us.
I do have patience, and am fine with the current schedule. But, DaveB was saying he wanted to make these faster, and I proposed a possible (yet not likely to happen) solution.
I can not wait to see what the rest of the orbs do.
Next page: Harem ports in, takes one look at Sydney floating upside down withballs floating around her, and can’t stop all five of her bodies from dropping a synchronised “WTF?!”
Also, floaty panels on a shirt. With dialogue. DO IT!!
With yet another pain cascade as her attention is deisrupted!
You know Sydney can telaport also. It might jus be line of sight, but it would be intresting to know if they use diffrent methods to telaport ot not.
Use spoiler code when you do that. Some of us want to learn about the abilities as the story goes along.
That’s my fault. I’ve never been on this side of a comic before, I didn’t think about how revealing or keeping certain things to myself would play out.
kinda hoping she gave the orbs names….. it is sydny after all naming super power granting orbs would be like her
A better question is what superhero names has she worked up?
I would think that she has a whole list of good ones but she never decided on one. I in addition I postulate that the name Halo isn’t/wasn’t her idea. (My money is on Gen.Faluk having thought of it, or Heatwave)
Id think she would have come up with something a bit…. wierder and yeah my guess would be Gen.Faluk came up with the name but I don’t know what Sydney herself would have chosen hard to say with her spastic attitude
The Ball Bearer
Orb Queen
Ms. Ioun Stone
Someone in the organization likes names that start with H
I think the names start with some comment on the persons powers or a nick aka maxima’s soldier buddies call her max and it sticks or brooks powers noted as heatwaves and so given the name. so when harem or dab notices the halo effect and calls it syd is named.
Obviously the general is secretly an empowered who can manifest props relevant to the current situation.
I’d imagine part of what makes Max aggravated is that Sydney could have flown herself to the base if she’d revealed her powers earlier.
Maybe, but I doubt it – Max doesn’t know yet how fast Sydney can fly. For all she knows, Syd can only hover or levitate.
Helicopters can do lots of interesting tricks, but they c an’t be as fast as fast planes. Could be Sydney can do precision levitation, move in strange directions and orientations, but can’t go very fast. If her flight wasn’t four star, I’d suggest limited range, Anyway, Sydney doesn’t know where they’re going at that point, and doesn’t have the IFF transponder I would bloody well insist on tor flying people if I were running security.
Lotsa UFOs.
Like that scene in Superman Returns where he pops up on military radar.
Exactly. For the uninitiated, warplanes have carried IFF (Identify Friend or Foe) transponders for decades. When you approach a defended area, a signal hits you and the IFF does things to it and responds. It’s kind of like password challenges by sentries, but more complex and a lot faster. A friendly IFF with the correct setting will give the correct response in the allotted time. Anything else is warned off in peacetime or shot at in wartime.
And when things don’t work like they should you have friendly fire incidents.
murfeys law – there is NO friendly fire.
True but it is a term used to describe you own allies/units killing or injuring you. That Football player who volunteered was killed that way.
