Grrl Power #833 – UNIT Couture
Anvil knew Max would be reluctant to try on dresses, so she’s trying to ease her in with a below the knee quasi-military looking job.
Honestly, Anvil has a dressing screen because drawing silhouettes is easier. Also, silhouettes are also weirdly a bit sexier when done right.
#ComicTalk: I actually feel a little guilty that this page only has 5 panels, but I’ve been constantly a touch behind with the comic of late, so I’ve been making an effort to not overwhelm myself. Ideally, I’d find a way to draw faster, but I’m not sure that’s in the cards, so my tactic for this sequence was to rearrange my original script just a bit and turn 2 pages into three. It has the advantage of allowing me to draw slightly larger panels, which I enjoy doing. Most comic pages have 5 ± 2 panels. I usually weigh in at 9. I think my record for this comid was 17 which is absurd. The disadvantage, of course, is that it makes it take longer to get through a scene, which I don’t like at all. But I’m still striving for a bit of balance. I haven’t worked on the follow up to my Tamer fanfic much since releasing #1, but this week I finally had a Sunday off from drawing the comic.
Double res version will be posted over at Patreon. Feel free to contribute as much as you like!
Secretly Max is a girly girl.
Shh – don’t tell!
And a nerd. Secretly
Secretly? Her theory for what the Orbs are was “Ioun stones”. Doesn’t get much nerdier than that.
What tipped you off? Her desire for combat boots to complete the ensemble ..?
The TV Tropes term is “Tomboy with a Girly Streak.”
Thank you for not actually linking that, we probably would have lost multiple people for a while in that time sink.
Oh yes. TvTropes is worse than any Wikipedia. I’m a bit worried over how tempted I am to look up this trope, but I know if I do then within short I will have looked through at least 5 more.
Allow me to enable. https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/TomboyWithAGirlyStreak
Getting Max to say “slit” should be a Max Bingo space on someone’s card. Especially in context where she’s the one making a dirty entendre .
Kenya has a dressing screen because other people might present. But, even with Max present, it probably cuts down on the “porn sense tinglings” that Xuriel and Math already get far too many of. Still, a bit of a shame that the glare off Max didn’t incinerate the screen.
Maybe on the Holiday Beach Filler Episode …
You… do realise Maxi is still nekid behind that screen, right? The Porno-sense will still be going off with or without the screen
The only way there would be glare, is if there was a sunlamp behind the screen
The whole purpose to a dressing screen is so the lady can entice her man with a strip tease without actually showing him any skin. She gets to wind the man up while pretending to be all innocent.
Also, the amount of angry hair and SPikes seem to say Max is VERY …. Goldamant about this not being a Date.
Lady doth protest too much indeed. ^^
Love the latest page but why is there a picture of Terry Cruse
Why not? Terry is hot, and it’s Anvil’s quarters
Did you miss the picture of The Rock (that Terry is looking at)?
Silhouettes are good! Honest! They can even be awesome. Just ask Eddie Murphy and the Golden Child!
I thought that was more of a gratuitous wet t-shirt movie.
The scene with the dragon lady seen only in silhouette.
More of a naga, I think. Being from Hindu mythology it seems to be a fair guess.
Daniel here. I think I see Anvil’s Tactics here, start close to Max’s comfort zone then slowly draw her out. I can see that working to an extent…
And to DaveB, if you need to get some rest, just let us know, I’m certain most would understand. Waiting a bit longer for the next page Vs no comic due to burnout, I’ll take waiting happily personally…
+1
I dare say you are talking for most of us when you say we are happy to wait a bit longer for this comic.
I think Anvil is obfuscating a bit, talking about the zipper on the dress. Even though she mentioned that the side slit could help Max stay (semi) covered even if she needs to launch a kick, Max is extremely likely to make that zipper split wide open all the way to the top anyway.
“Lady in distress!”
“Not anymore, she’s not!”
Need to be very careful how you say those last two lines, when Maxima’s in this (or any) dress…
It’s not nearly as bad as that. I would just really like one day a week to work on something other than the comic, like vote incentives or cover mock ups or writing.
Fair enough, good to hear. Know a few comics & people who needed a quick break to prevent burnout, didn’t want you added to the burnt-out side of that list…
As everyone else has been saying, if you need to take a week (or even two) to work on something else, do it, a short delay is better than the quality (art and story) deteriorating, or worse
I say go for it! Much as I love this comic, you should still enjoy drawing it in the first place. Avenue Q said “There is life outside your apartment”, well there is life outside my favourite webcomics for their artists, too. Don’t feel bad about wanting to focus elsewhere for a while, it’ll do you a world of mental good.
So the wall posters should be(left to right): Terry Crews, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, and Idris Elba
Nah, fairly sure that’s Drake or Kanye, not Elba
No, it’s Elba. Admittedly a slightly odd pic of him. It might be from a few years ago.
Had to go back a page to get a better look, obviously not disputing the word of the artist who inserted the photo, just… doesn’t really look like him
As you said, probably just an old(er) photo, and the pose
Remember, this is still set in 2011, so pictures of the guys have to be at least 9 years old.
Explain the cartoon that Valeur was watching
The cartoon that didn’t come out until well after 2011
Honestly, sometimes it is fine to have just a splash page or just a couple of larger scenes than needing to tell an entire story in a page. Stretching it out a bit sometimes can help with the story telling and would suggest that you just do whatever is comfortable with your writing style.
Read 2 comics recently where the author seems to have lost motivation or just wants to drag everything to the point that I’ve gotten board. Never had that feeling with your comic, even now. The story is still engaging and hadn’t have noticed the lack of scenes if you didn’t directly address it.
Keep up the good work and hope you are still enjoying it.
Mmm, toes…
And those ankles!
I know, right? <3 <3
Mmmm, baby got gap! I love a woman with a bit of hallux varus!
Just because Maxi would get pleasure from high-kicking SmugD in his giant X does not make it a date
Stop needling the GEoD :P
GEoD?
Golden Elf of Doom. Slang term for Maxima..
Also makes for subtle reference to the origin of her powers! I like it!
Thank you, could never figure out what the second ‘E’ would have been, so left it off :)
Why doesAnvil have a dressing screen? For the aesthetic, of course.
There’s something about panel 3 that makes Max look like just a normal woman (gold skin and purple hair notwithstanding). And I mean that in a good way.
Ya forgot the pointy ears.
Could be the screen also lets her feel like being seductively teasing to any guys she may invite, Strip behind the screen so they get the tease as she slips into something more comfortable.
Silhouettes being easier works too. :D
Also, nice smug look on Anvil’s face in the final panel as she got another Date shot off on Max and almost got away with it if the hair’s twinging in anger are proof enough.
Heh, had spotted the shoulder-spikes, missed the angry hair :P
And it just keeps going on with this dress up Max like a Barbie doll fantasy
DaveB states on the About page:
“Yeah but what’s it about?
“The extraordinary person in the ordinary circumstance.
“To me, the most memorable moments in comics and shows are the scenes with amusing character interaction, you know the issue the X-men spend playing baseball, or the moments where you see the ice queen warming up to the underdog nerd character, or the scene that establishes that two tertiary characters have a buddy cop thing going. I find that’s the stuff I remember and enjoy the most, not what villain they fought that episode. If Wolverine fights Sabertooth for the 47th time, who really cares? But if the artist draws him drinking a Strawberry Yoohoo afterwards, that’s the sort of thing that people remember.
“I wanted a comic that focuses mostly on those interstitial scenes I enjoy so much. So the comic is largely “day in the life” It is still a superhero comic though, and there will be some fighting of course but I suspect that any fighting Sydney gets involved in will be a little more slapstick than you’d normally get.”
It’s Kenya’s fantasy, if you think about it. Although the artist may be projecting a bit.
Ok, I’m saying it now- that is not the right bra to be wearing with that outfit, and I agree on something a bit stompy. And perhaps some kind of leggings to ease the skin tone for her legs.
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
*sigh*
Gold is such a painful color to work with. So very few people can actually pull it off without it coming off as gaudy.
The problem with wearing leggings with that outfit and chunky boots is you risk either looking boring or too severe if they’re plain gray or black, or clashing or looking goth if they’re not.
I think Maxima can live with boring :)
I disagree with her choice in boots… not chunky – knee high, with a bit of heel. Stay away from combat boots, don’t go as far as thigh-high or fetish-wear. Something black in matte or velvet, perhaps.
You’re right about the bra. She either needs a contrasting undershirt (silver is the only color besides white I can think of that contrasts both gold and black), a black bra (either satin or lacey), or loose it altogether (like THAT’S going to happen).
And what’s this about the zipper being cosmetic? It runs from thigh to cleavage, just like its designed to… Overall, the sexiest piece of military-inspired women’s clothing I’ve seen in a long while (the sexiest was a much shorter dress designed off what seemed to me to be a Russian or German female officers coat – and the finished product was quite a bit less modest; this design has fabric between the collar and the buttocks, that one gave a great view of most of the female spine).
Hummm… I see autocorrect made lose into loose again… Sigh.
Why do people even have auto-correct? It’s nearly as smart as a grammar-checker!
The zipper stops below the cleavage, Maxi would have preferred it showing none, hence, cosmetic (as in it doesn’t really do anything substantial or meaningful)
I will say that I prefer ‘stompy’ as a term.
Knee-high with heel, or thigh-high if leggings don’t really work, but not so much heel that you can’t put some emphasis on your step.
The look is sharp, cutting, and forceful. It’s a statement of position and power. The boots (and they should be boots) should match. No dainty high-heels or sandals here, they’ll undersell the overall aesthetic of the outfit.
The contrast panels on the shoulders, collar, and cuffs do look kind of military, but they also make it look kind of like a Star Trek DS9 uniform. Max probably has some subconscious connection to it that way as well.
Feet are really hard to draw from any angle other than straight on or direct profile. I applaud Dave’s effort to draw Max’s left foot in a difficult position.
> Also, silhouettes are also weirdly a bit sexier when done right.
Nothing weird about it. The silhouette behind screen is sexier the same way a nighty, see-through or net or hose is sexier than being plain naked.
1) It leaves more to fantasy
2) It teases
3) It’s more invoking of sexual thoughts than simply being naked
4) It let’s the gaze wander, because the other person will not be able to make eye-contact. Matching someones gaze is an instinctive habit that a screen completely switches off, so it’s easier to look at the other persons body instead of face
5) A silhouette hides texture and a lot of the form. No little bumps or folds or wrinkles of the skin, it’s perfectly smooth.
This is why Playboy went downhill when they went to full nudity, due to competition from Hustler: there was nothing left to the imagination anymore. It is the same reason why “Alien” was a smash hit, and another movie, “Prophecy,” that came out at the same time was a flop. The people who made “Prophecy” groused that their monster was much more horrible than the Alien, but they lovingly showed you every square inch of it, so you could pick it to pieces (it was basically a giant mutated grizzly bear; one of its features, which was shown ON THE MOVIE POSTER, was that its brain was exocephalic, which means that there was no bony crown to its skull, so its corrugated brain could pulse horribly, but also meant that a thrown rock, or even a lucky punch, could kill it). In “Alien,” you never saw all of it until the very end, so you could fill in the missing details with your own private nightmares. It’s the reason mothers keep telling their daughters to not show everything all at once…
Oh my word…while it’s not large. The dress has a POCKET. the mythical pocket! Unless it’s one of those faux pocket tabs.
This is MAX and Anvil knows Max all to well so that is a Real Pocket.
???? What are you talking about? It has TWO! Admittedly the one above the left breast is almost definitely faux… pockets don’t work well when the slope at a thirty degree angle (on the other hand, it has a flap).
Now THAT’S sexy! What can I… never mind… later.
yes, yes the breast pocket thing…same with many mens suit jackets utterly fake and just a fashion accent ONLY. As such I do not and unto and after the heat death of the universe and it’s rebirth I will NEVER consider something like that a POCKET. The other one, just. Eh, it’s like the little pocket on a pair of jeans. ONE purpose only, a purpose that has become obsolete. I’ve given up bothering getting a #23 pocket watch as I wear a kilt these days so no filling the little pocket. :)
From what I’ve seen; Utilikilts look like the have pretty useful pockets.
You call that a pocket. It can’t even fit a modern telephone in it. “Pats Maxima on the back,” “gets thrown into orbit.”
What?? No!! I didn’t kill him!
Gravity did.
I just didn’t save him. I can’t save everybody, you know!!
NEVER seek to draw faster! It is far better to get three PERFECT frames than six rushed ones that you hate later. These five are just fine!
Fast doesn’t have to mean rushed. I’ve seen artists who operate very fast and produce incredible work. I’m sure it’s something you have to work on and improve over time, like playing an instrument or etc.
How I wish I could draw as fast and good as Stepjan Seijic. He can bang out a painting in under an hour that’s better than anything I’ve ever drawn in my life.
He did this in about 90 minutes. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/D4G0YN5X4AAskwi?format=jpg&name=orig
Here’s proof. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uGq62nAUSto
No, just draw as fast and as good as DaveB can, that’s the only person you should be trying to compare yourself to
Be inspired by others, compare yourself only to yourself
I vote for panel #2 of ax, as a wallpaper or other.
Max not ax. :)
Why not both?
Both is good.
Now the question to follow up with is, what kind of Ax?
My suggestion would be a Jackson Warrior
Max would have no need for an ax, and you’d have to be fatally ignorant to take an ax to her.
Unless she’d asked you for one, in which case the risk is from not doing so.
Don’t be an ass!
Did you mean ax?
I don’t know of it’s just me, but to me this is an absolutely horrible looking dress and a crime against fashion
Yes, it is just you
It’s not just Ben. I’m not mad on it either.
I don’t think it’s Max’s style. She should be wearing proud, elegant beauty, not something which says “You can unzip me, I’m easily available”.
That’s not who she is.
I was thinking something like that myself‼️
I wouldn’t go that far. The basic style is good, although the implementation of it is slightly askew from that style. Perhaps if the zipper was toned down a bit, and extended a bit further in both directions.
No wonder she favors boots. Maxima got some chonky feet there. Usually the foot is as wide as the hand but this suggests something in the 14 Wide kind of range. Maybe her ears aren’t the only thing ahem ‘changed’ in her features. Come on, give, does she have a nubby little tail stub?
No one ever says “this page doesn’t have enough panels.” Each page should have the number it needs. No more, no less.
This is the wizard of comics.
It arrives exactly as it means to :)
That dress would work really well for Max over some shimmery tights, white or silver, and a black lace top that came up to her neck.
This may be a bit off topic, but how does Max trim her nails and hair? One assumes they are as resistant as the rest of her. Many, many years ago (as in decades) this was touched on in a Superman comic (he uses his Heat Vision™ to trim both, with a fragment of his baby spaceship as a mirror to reach out of his direct sight), but I am not certain what of Max’ powers would allow her to do likewise. There is also the problem of getting the nail polish to stick, but nail polish is temporary anyway.
Maybe she just had her nails and lips anodized ? or it’s red lead primer ;)
The panel count in the page is what it needs to work, no more and no less
The full length shot counts as two anyway.
Going by the sillhouette, Max does have big…feet…yeah, feet. Nothing wrong with that.
Agreed though, that dress could use a high neck victorian blouse and some hosiery, but no fishnets.
And a cameo brooch on the blouse collar, one with a large pin for close-in work ;)
And definitely combat boots…with spikes…Gene Simmons eat your heart out…
https://www.silver-heart.co.uk/media/catalog/product/cache/1/image/1000x/040ec09b1e35df139433887a97daa66f/M/_/M.1535-S1.jpg
As far as I remember her lips are simply that color naturally. Maybe nail colors do work on her nails, they work quite well on very smooth surfaces and if not I’m sure there is something that can be done with pigments and a super glue base.
Two possible ways.
One is that she is not immune to her own power. She can simply black hole blast her hair and nails into submission.
The other is that when she dials one of her powers down all the way it is no stronger than a regular human. If this is the case she can simply dial her protection down to the lowest setting and the hairdresser and manicure can do their job just fine. They might need sunglasses but that is it.
Both would also explain how Maxima could be injured (as per Peggy who stated early on that she met Maxima when they were both in the hospital recovering).
I seem to recall one of the supers who took place in the Vehemence-induced super brawl, was–explicitly–a barber for superheroes, who cuts the hair of superheroes and such.
No reason someone like Max couldn’t take advantage of a service like that if she toned her durability down. (I don’t think it goes all the way down to human levels, but it can be turned down to very-low-superhuman levels.)
How could he be a barber for superheroes, when superheroes at that time were so rare?
No, he just happened to be a super-barber
This has been covered a few times in a few different ways. I like yours the best, because the others I’ve seen have been using a normal mirror, which would melt, or using his fingernails to shave, which is ridiculous. But throwing in the ship makes it a case of an alien tech being the perfect mirror, so we can handwave away the fact that the surface his vision is bounced off of would melt unless it was a perfect reflector.
Of course, it opens up more questions. Such as, why doesn’t Superman make a shield out of some ship metal? He is occasionally thrown back by powerful beams of energy, but a perfect reflector would counter those *ahem* perfectly. Any number of other useful items could be imagined with a little time.
Don’t believe it was ever mentioned she was unable to trim her nails or hair (that would be Les)
We have seen her get her nose broken (and then reset), we saw her get injured from a simple explosion, so there is no reason to think she can’t trim her nose hairs
os it me, or do her feet seem off? I mean the right one seems oddly large.
Feet are, for most people, the hardest part of the body to draw right. Do you really want a page a week for a month while Dave practices getting feet proportional to hands and of equal size? It’s not like it’s distracting for most of us anyway…
Perspective
They’re probably a bit big. I don’t draw feet all that often, and fitting the details of all the toes tends to make me make them larger than I should.
It’s OK, DaveB. I’m not complaining. You should practice more, though. In-comic. <3
How many outfits will Anvil make Maxima try on?
We’ll have seven weeks of Maxima getting ready for her “not a date.” After all, she’s just learned that Kenya buys clothing in her size, so she may as well try them all on to see which ones she’d like to take and which ones Kenya can return.
Hah hah, no, not quite that long. :)
Honestly, some of us wouldn’t mind (specially if you dragged in some of the other girls for a fashion show)
Different ladies wearing different outfits, specially ones they wouldn’t normally wear, or would ever wear again
I like a dress that says “for me, this will have been a Tuesday”
Keep telling yourself that, Leander.
Wait, if her skin is mettalic, how does the toenail polish stay on?
Do you really think that paint cannot adhere to metal?
Nails are made from the same stuff as your hair, not skin
Do we have any evidence in any of the 833 comics that her hair or nails continued to grow after the Geode incident?
Yes.
Panel 2 of #415 clearly shows a teen hand with close-cipped tomboy nails. Panel 7, same page, shows militarily-acceptable not-quite long painted nails.
Page #411, panels 1, 4, 5 and 7 show the same thing.
We don’t know if Maxi has false nails, so there’s something to watch for.
#415 clearly shows young Maximilia in transition. Her hair is still blonde (mostly). Her nails are still on human hands. #411 shows how her nails may end up, unless she wears falsies.
*looking at the wall in the background*
POPOPOPOPOWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEER!
MUSCLE! MUSCLE! MUSCLE! MUSCLE!
Can I admit that I’m happy with the detailed work you did on Max’s feet without sounding like a internet weirdo?
It’s just nice to see that some research went into what training does to feet instead of just sticking with the standard toe spread and metacarpal structure.
Thanks to the used terms you sound more like a drawing enthousiast/nerd/geek to a layperson like me.
There are some foot fetish artists out there that can draw incredible feet. I’d like to be that good, not because I have a foot thing, but just because why not try to be great at everything?
For the record, think feet are pretty horrifying.
Is that why so many of them have “foot in mouth” syndrome?
“Guys love the slit”
should be a fashion design motto
Am I the only one who doesn’t like Max being pushed into this “date” so hard?
Nope
No. I think Kenya (Anvil) is still in the fine range, going for slowly changing her attitude (and not actually wanting her to date Deus) and I don’t expect her to presser Max to go to the meeting with the dress.
Deus is Deus and we are not supposed to be ok with what he does.
You are not.
Frankly I’m put off by both the “pressure someone to date when they don’t want to” thing, AND the whole “obligatory put the tough woman in a dress episode” vibe.
Kenya isn’t ‘pressuring’ Maxi to go on a date, she’s pushing a friend who hasn’t dated in possibly years to put herself ‘out there’, as a friend would do
My impression from this scene, admittedly subjective, is that this isn’t the first time this has come up, and that Anvil keeps pushing repeatedly.
Eventually, an actual friend learns what not to push, and lets it drop.
I haven’t dated in… almost 25 years. I swore off that garbage. The one friend who wouldn’t let it go… isn’t my friend any more. So yeah, this isn’t just hypothetical.
Yes, pushing, not pressuring
No difference.
I don’t mind the fashion show or anything, for funsies, but when it comes time for the actual “not a date”, both regulations and her personal inclinations say she needs to just wear her dress uniform.
….
insert me gusta meme here.
But seriously- being able to kick someone in the face is an important feature of any dressware. That and concealed usb cuffs, brass knuckles in tie, reinforced tie, hidden pockets for knives, reinforced seams, and shoes to run in. Maybe a bulletproof plate or three, but that’s usually a bit much for a first date.
Not if the first date is with SmugD
I’m loving this “Lex Luthor seducing Superman” vibe going on between Max and Deus. It’s wonderful.
That dress is overly sexy, verging on sleazy with that low of a cleavage reveal in a business setting. If she wanted to be on a date, I can see her wearing it, because she does look very good in it – But I honestly can’t believe she’d wear it to a meeting she does NOT want to be viewed as a sexual object by someone she does NOT want to be on a date with. Even if she secretly DOES want to be on a date with him, I truly believe that, as you have previously written this character, for at least the FIRST date, stated to be a business only-meeting, she would have worn something with a higher neckline – even if very form fitting. This is just inviting him not to take her seriously, and I think she has a much better tactical mind than that. Now – if she was deliberately going for manipulating him with sex appeal, she would have said so from the beginning. And I really don’t think that’s her gig anyway. I’m kind of disappointed in the way this is going – I kind of feel like you’re pandering to the viewers who want to be titillated by Max – instead of taking her seriously as a character. Couldn’t you have let her wear something sexy maybe but more businesslike – at least in THIS situation. I’m disappointed in her friend for pushing her in that direction, too.
100% agree with every point you made. I really hope it doesn’t go in that direction, it absolutely feels like pandering at the expense of the respect Max deserves as both a person and a character.
Hmm, you mean, like maybe wear an undershirt that goes to her neck?
To be clear, Max isn’t stuck with this dress, it was just on the top of the pile that Anvil handed her.
Does that mean the next page will be a bunch of images of Max in different dresses?
I like this plan, and am excited to be a part of it!
For what it’s worth, this dress is perfectly fine. For a date with Anvil’s date’s spare friend, and not for a meeting with Deus.
Reread the synopsis: https://www.grrlpowercomic.com/about/
As I commented above –
“I don’t think it’s Max’s style. She should be wearing proud, elegant beauty, not something which says “You can unzip me, I’m easily available”.
That’s not who she is.”
Yeah, that doesn’t mean she wouldn’t try something out of her comfort zone. specially in the relative safety of her best friends’ apartment
Maxima says that the zipper is cosmetic/non-functional. So any inference of easy access is all in the eyes of the beholder. We don’t blame the viewee for the naughty thoughts of the viewer, regardless of what they are wearing.
Somewhere out there is a person or persons who think that you’re dressed like a slut, no matter what you might be wearing, and it’s their fault and not yours that they came to that conclusion.
The point of mentioning that the zipper is non-functional is NOT to say that someone could undress her. The point is that she did not CHOOSE to leave it down that far – but that she CAN’T zip it up higher.
And that’s another thing that bothers me about this dress. SHE has no choice. Everyone LOOKING at it will assume she CHOOSE to leave it down that far, because it LOOKS like a real zipper. So she is DEFINITELY sending out the signals, if she wears this dress, that say (even if it’s not true) “I CHOOSE TO LEAVE THIS MUCH BOOB HANGING OUT.”
In fact, the slit doesn’t bother me at all. It DOES make it easier for her to kick butt – or chin- with a strong, high kick, which would NOT be easy to do in most evening length dresses. PLUS – it is invisible while sitting, so would not be an obvious distraction – or advertisement – during the meal. The dress could have had an attractive princess or scoop neck and still been QUITE sexy – but not so obvious a “THIS IS A DATE DRESS- NOT A BUSINESS MEETING MEAL” dress. You show that much of your boob, in our culture, and then one illustrated here so far – and it means “I WANT YOU TO STARE AT MY BOOBS, NOT DO BUSINESS.’
Dave, please don’t turn it into a date. And please don’t send Max in a dress, not even this one.
well dresses with a slit are fabulous. kinda love them since I first saw Ada Wong from Resident Evil. And Max is looking gorgeous on that dress.
So now I have a random thought, seeing Max get the cartoonish fritzed hair.
If she deliberately powers her forcefield down to nothing, can she cut her hair mundanely? Or is there a certain level of super-durability that she can’t deactivate?
Again, is there any evidence in any of the 833 comics that her hair or nails continued to grow after the Geode incident?
See your previous.
Not evidence in the comic… though I briefly tried to make Max’s hair a bit longer when Sydney came back from space, though I immediately forgot to keep that up after a few pages without her in it.
Don’t forget, while Max is normally very tough, she had that power pool she can use to boost her abilities however she needs, but she can also drain her other abilities in order to “max out” one stat. She does this often for things like haircurts and nail maintenance.
Her “minimized” armor stat still requires her to use industrial equipment for such maintenance though. She just doesn’t need Death Star lasers to buff her cuticles when she’s speced like that.
