Grrl Power #831 – (Not a) Date night
Clearly, Maxima’s idea of evening gowns is influenced by the last time she wore a fancy dress, which was probably her high school prom. My original pencils for panel 5 included something on the back of her waist which was either going to be a giant bow or a big ruffly flower. I ditched it because, well, I didn’t want to spend time drawing all the ruffles, but also because Maxima may not be able to conjure the image of a sleek elegant evening gown off the top of her head, but she knows the difference between that and a quinceanera dress. Honestly I don’t know how manga artists deal with drawing all those ruffle trimmed French Maid outfits. It’s so tedious.
Do hispanic Jewish girls get a bat mitzvah and a quinceanera? That seems like a decent scam, or it would be if you got to chose your gender, race and religion when you’re filling out your player sheet. You know, the one you fill out before you’re born? I assume that’s how it works.

One of our nurses was doing his 9th shift in a row, and was (not unsurprisingly) ‘feeling unwell’. We all get temperature checked before starting our shift, but we were getting him to check himself throughout the day. When he looked particularly poorly, mid way through the afternoon my colleague and I ordered him (despite being technically our superior) to take his temperature again, and if it had elevated at all, he should go home immediately.
When he quibbled that there was no one else to replace him, I replied ‘the manager can take over’, so that is not your concern. And we walked down with him to the office and checked his result, before we would let him carry on. We would have enforced it too, knowing full well that the manager would back the call.
I have no idea why Deus wants Maxima to dress up. Does he have some defense against being literally blinded by her radiant and highly reflective beauty?

He would have gone for the Doom look, but decided the facial scars were more striking than hideous.
I think Deux is a notch above Luthor, or he’s where Luthor would be had he focused on gaining personal wealth and power, instead of wasting energy and resources trying to beat Superman. Luthor never bought a country.

Y’know, I really like how Deus is portrayed in this page. Him not being as 100% in-control of the situation as he pretends that he is, is a very nice humanizing touch. And humorous, too!
