Grrl Power #829 – Spilling news
Hmm, looks like Anvil’s master plan might be interrupted by this little development.
C.C. St. Claire’s show Macroeconomics is one of those little specialized news shows that probably has a fairly small audience, but Deus likes it because it usually features deep dives on complex topics, and doesn’t rely on sound bites or angry aging white men yelling at each other. That and he’s probably trying to get C.C. in bed. There are much more prominent venues for him to tease out little nuggets like he’s doing here, but he doesn’t care about his social media presence at this moment. He knows the right people will be listening.
Double res version will be posted over at Patreon. Feel free to contribute as much as you like!
Dunt take many, m’thinkin’, fer Galytn t’have ten times th’reg’lar rate o’supers. Deuce gots least a dozen on the payroll, and how many’s a place Galytin’s size s’posed t’have anyhow?
Plus, import’n goods from WAY outta town. Few trustys with sum awesome toys’d hardly be told apart.
Final, buncha refugees from elsewhere too, with their own tricks an’ skills. And wan’t blood magic popular there?
Final final, refugees and outta town imports means quite the pool o’ knowledge, an’ all the locals goin’ to school there dunt even know what they missed out on ’til now. One more class subject for yer major, m’I right? They maybe comes outta the schools with tricksy insights the rest o’ the world missed ’til now and no idea they’s even odd, that evens the odds a bit dun’t it?
If Deuce really found out how to call the thunder with supers that’s a whole ‘nother thing but could be the story ’bout supers is a cover story he’s givin’ out just t’explain th’extent o’ Galytn’s advantage.
Just hit me how the size difference between Anvil and Maxima is brought out so clearly in that first panel. Even better than when Anvil has Max on her shoulder.
I wonder if Anvil would like a girlfriend who wants piggyback rides?
I’m reading a whole lot of conjecture which conceptually leaves out the element that if Deus appears to be about to upset their apple cart The Twilight Council might just assassinate him and they probably have methods to Neutralise Vale while they do it.
I doubt it, they come across as “old blood stuck in their ways”, given their poor handling of Sciona, the fact outside help was required in that department and only the magic obelisks (or whatever they were called) with supers assisting protecting them were actually kept in tact; their complete lack of mundane modern security systems or defenses allowing anti-magic weapons to infiltrate and if not for supers like Maxima being present would have decimated their council with supernatural counter-measures.
The problem with the majority of supernatural beings (that would even band together like that) is that they are “folklore” level monsters; meaning for all their powers and variety of powers they tend to have weaknesses that can be exploited by mundane human beings, iron, salt, daylight harms or limits their movement, garlic, crossing running water, thorn bushes, silver, ect….
then we look at the vault and their own defenses turned on them despite Sciona hitting the inner-chambers and bypassing that Digimon looking golem which was taken down by supers and Dabbler (who is an inter-dimensional adventurer), and the vault’s defenses were primarily magic.
the council doesn’t seem like a major power except to their own kind, and the alien side of it is just the tourism board; which given current events is likely to be replaced and no longer be a secret thing; remember the council members were quick to want supers off the council once they went public, and now aliens are known to the public.
we don’t know what Vale is currently, if she’s a super (and Sciona just didn’t recognize that as some super powers are downright freaky; seen an X-men character sort of like Vale, and Concretia’s power would have been a similar scenario had Sciona tried to attack her while possessing some stone), or if she’s an Eldritch than who knows what they can do; each Eldritch is different so unless you know the specific runes, or words of power, or can bargain with its greater power; you aren’t going to accomplish much more than maybe slow it down if it can only operate with so much power in the mortal plane at a time (think Bill Cipher’s limitations) or else a surge protector, can only channel so much power through an avatar before you break it.
acadamy city is in galytn then.
Anvil, the drink goes in your mouth, not your cleavage.
No no no, let her drink it how she wants, just let me help clean. it. up. a little…
Anvil is being a vampire’s fetish right now, LOL
Deus looks markedly different in this comic from his prior appearances.
Different. That’s putting it mildly. He’s starting to look like a polyhedron.
Huh, people are upset just cause you’re invading their land and taking it from them by strength of arms? What uptight douchebags.
Oh my.
There seems to be a word left out of Deus’ statement in panel 6: “Ten times the super population per capita”? What population is he using as a scale? U.S.? Global? The mythical ‘average’?
I’d taken it as the local/regional average, among Galytn’s neighbours. It reads like a delayed answer to CC’s question about how Galytn is managing its expansion plans, which implies that the comparison is against those at whose expense the expansion is taking place.
I kinda liked the older style. Felt a little… More real, in a way. The new one feels kinda uncanny valley for some reason. Idk, just a thing.
I bet Deus is using the other half of Max’s geode as some sort of water filter/contaminator.
