Grrl Power #798 – Object oriented armageddon
Okay so I tried to make Krona look excited about the things she could learn from Sydney’s orbs, but uh… I think in panel 3 and 4 she looks, well, psychotic. She’s just excited about the possibilities. She loves learning. Nothing nefarious, promise!
Sydney accidentally looks super cute in the first panel there, though definitely not 22. Er, 23 now, I guess. Well, okay, still technically 22 even though her birthday has elapsed, as she didn’t exist during that span of time. Not that Sydney has ever looked 22.
When the group rolled up to the club, the bouncer probably took one look at “Agnes,” Krona and Pixel, and was like, “You’ve got to be kidding me. I’m being pranked, right?” Actually, come to think of it, since Ellie, Kat, and Crimson are in the group, they probably used the same staff entrance that Decollete and Tamatha use.
Double res version will be posted over at Patreon. Feel free to contribute as much as you like!
I’m just a bit worried about Krona. She seems a little too eager to play around with the fundamental underpinnings of reality. Don’t take things apart if you’re not sure you know how to put them back together.
Isn’t that always the case? You take something apart to look at how it works, and when you put it back together, there’s always a few (important) pieces left over…
Didn’t there used to be nine planets in this solar system? Oh never mind, they’ll never notice.
I think there used to be 11, actually, including one between Mars and Jupiter, but that was thousands of years ago …
^_^
Never forget.
It’s ok, Valentine will teach us to protect ourselves from the xenophobic Martians.
There is, but there’s a small question of whether a Slightly More than Earth’s Mass Primordial Black Hole can actually be called a Planet…
She is now reminding me of Entrapta from the new She-ra series.
As long as you test it on a small scale, worst case scenario the black hole will collapse before it eats the world
And explode. Evaporating black hole, converting thousands of tons of matter to energy. But the planet would still exist. Just travelling very fast, in lots of different places and directions, but most of the atoms would still technically “exist”.
Like a Nebula.
Mass stays constant. Small scale does not mean “tons of mater”. Tons of mater would be after it ate Krona.
The same small black holes a supercollider could produce, nothing more. Those only have like a Atom Mass.
Natural Black holes are only so massive, because that is literally the only way they can form in Nature.
Small scale vs know volume of the universe = local galactic cluster.
Please specify your reliant definition of small scale.
Small scale = Planck length
I mean, there is literally nothing smaller. Theoretically.
Black Hole bombs are talked about in Sci To stories all the time, but, assuming you could stabilize a primordial black Hole for a while, dropping an Everest massed black Hole on a planet and allowing it to destabilize, would be a good way to Nova a star system…
Oh, terrific! A new playmate for Wally on Sandra and Woo. Carmen did so well in Yuan’s care.
Bad Wally! Bad, bad, bad Wally! No eating your playmates!
Yup, just read that comic, too. :D
Yeah, that’s how supervillains get started.
“Huh, I wonder if I could tweak this.”
“You know, everything would work better if I changed this.”
“YOU WILL ALL BOW TO THE SUPREMACY OF MY MACHINATIONS, WORMS!”
Some villains don’t start out wanting to be evil, it just ends up being so much more efficient than watching the supers stumble around. Sometimes with enough power, they just start pushing the heroes into competence and taking over the galaxy because everything is just better that way.
Krona: Thanks for letting me examine the orbs during your last power up. Here’s a list of what I figured out.
Halo: Hey, that’s fine. I’m glad you were able to come up with this. I like having an instruction manual. Is that really what the brown one does?!
Krona: Near as I can figure. You hold that and you never need to eat again, but where’s the fun in that?
Halo: [Reading printout] Wait?! Light-speed travel?!
Krona: Yeah, but with full relativistic effects; you know, the twins paradox, and all that. Oh, and here. I was able to find out what these guys are, or were in this case. I had to change it a bit.
Halo: And what pray tell is this heavy little ball? It feels a little … fuzzy?
Krona: Well, it was a W.I.M.P. I had to change it a little so I can study it, so I adjusted this one’s Weakly Interacting property to be moderately interacting in the EM.
Halo: Wait, so I am holding Dark Matter?!
Krona: Yup! [ Big smile ] To get that to be moderately interacting, I had make a couple grains of sand into weakly interacting, to keep the super-symmetry balanced. When sand is no longer held together by electromagnetism, it tends to drift apart into a huge number of entangled quantum particles. Thankfully it did not explode or that could have been bad. I have to be careful with that kind of thing.
Sounds like a good reason to learn about all that stuff so she knows how to put them back together again!
“Do not call up that which ye cannot put down.”
~H.P. Lovecraft; The Case of Charles Dexter Ward
Krona could stand to do some more reading…
How can you know if you can put something down, if you don’t examine it? o_O
In the future you won’t see people with signs like HOMELESS PLEASE HELP, it’ll be PHONELESS PLEASE HELP.
I mean it.
Ok boomer
Hush, child, the adults are talking.
Okay boomer.
Go learn to use a manual can opener.
Oh, that’s mean.
Acceptable substitutes would have been: ‘go learn to use a manual transmission’ and ‘figure out how to get there without google’. XD
Ah, the great many pleasures of being a gen-xer, I can function equally well with or without technology.
In my day, we functioned without air conditioning. Sometimes the bathroom was a little building out back with a board with a circle cut out over a deep hole.
You try telling that to kids these days, and they won’t believe it.
Hahahah that was amazing, thank you for linking that.
Durn phoneless need to get off my LAN!
Damnit Sidney BITE!
That, or the teenage girl put it on the nightstand to charge, it got knocked down behind it, and now the girl is blaming their little sibling for swiping it instead of methodically checking where it could have ended up.
That’s still foul play.
What if a chicken stole the phone?
That would be fowl play, not foul play.
I’m going to take a middle-of-the-road approach and say it’s both, hopefully without crossing anyone.
Chicken.
Considering the combination of the typical (Obama Administration era) smart-phone’s mass & proportions, it seems unlikely to be within the capabilitis of a (normal) chicken’s.
Believe you may be getting the Reagan-era phones confused, the phones from 8 years ago were not that big nor heavy (they weren’t called a ‘brick’ for nothing, and that was just the phone itself, you ever seen the battery? it had it’s own carry-bag!!!)
Krona’s kinda worrying me here.
She’s clearly being hypnotized by Decollete’s succuboobs.
Krona might be a Spark.
In panel four, she’s clearly headed for (if not already in) the Madness Place.
Well, she does wear goggles, but what about wearing hats? could be either spark or jaeger.
Why not… both? A spark Jaeger (now that’s a scary thought)
Wonder if Sydney is about to whip herself in the eye again with those stringy strands of fried cheese. Hopefully she hasn’t drenched them in hot sauce, but knowing Sydney there’s a good chance she’s smothered them in pure capsaicin.
“Please take this seriously”
“This is me taking things seriously”
Eyes are creepily big.
The kinda look like CDs
The eyes are just freaky big, almost anime big, which is to me is jarring on a semi-realistic face. And the irises are proportionately crazy huge, which is also disconcerting.
Now compare to Decollete’s eyes, which look totally normal. I get Dave is trying to make them look younger, but I wish he’d dial it back much closer to that.
Sydney has always been Anime-styled, why are you trying to change her style? o_O
Because shes always looked like a creepy bug monster-especially when shes being spazzy?.
Zack Tilly! That has always been her Style, so why the fuck are you trying to change her after all these years?
If you don’t like how the main character looks, stop fucking reading! Don’t tell the author and artist how to draw their characters!!
Mostly referring to Krona’s eyes, which Dave specifically said came out looking crazy. Dave is of course welcome to draw them however he wants, and none of us have ever pretended her face doesn’t change frequently.
But his style has been shifting more towards realistic faces, so I was just pointing out the specific elements that I felt threw things off. Whether he feels it’s constructive criticism and/or wants to respond to reader feedback/input is totally up to him.
Her eyes have always been big, and DaveB was trying to convey her excitedness, butt it came out a little more crazy-in-the-brain-pan over excited (just be glad she didn’t start to drool and hyper-ventilate at the same time :P )
It didn’t come across as crazy. It came across like it was drawn by someone who has no understanding of facial anatomy.
Dave has never had a consistent style. We will continue to criticize the author.
Well, if she can modify what the nuclear forces do within an area, she can disintegrate everything. That probably won’t work because she would need to manipulate a lot more energy than changing someone’s hair color. Then again, local time manipulation, even with “not technically a time manipulation”, should also involve a lot of energy.
You’re thinknig too small for someone with Krona’s ability. Does “Effect before Cause” mean anything to you? How about C=ME squared? Or maybe Acc squared divided by Force = Mass?
0.o
just imagine if there were one small town where E=MC cubed
Saw a movie clip where it was E-mc 3
Probably this town, based on the other hijinks that happen there. Personally I think ArcLight might have a facility there.
Frankly i’m with Krona on this, Sidney has barely begun to exploit those orbs yet. I wouldn’t be able to sleep for trying to push those things to the limit. Can she teleport with other people? Can she support weight with them when she moves them? How much can she lift with the shield when flying??? I want answers and she’s just eating cheese!!
Another possibility: Can the end of her energy tentacle split into smaller appendages? If she discovers she can do that it could be as effective as a hand.
Gripping! How useful is an opposable thumb?
Also, can Harem teleport holding the telipresence orb?
How much pressure can the green orb resist? Does she still need to deathgrip the shield orb underwater or in space?
Anyone got any others?
Krona probably could translate the sucker.
Heres one.
Can she teleport a group if she holds the light bee and shield orbs at the same time?
Can she use the lighthook and ppo to incenerate what ever she has it wrapped around or can she make a lightsaber out of it.
Can she expand the lighthooks width??
I suspect at higher levels of control, the lighthook would essentially be a slightly less powerful green lantern ring. Thing can probably take on any form she can will it, perhaps even a semi-sentiant assistant/guardian.
Ill agree with that one,Though I think the slightly would be that it has a limited range away from her and thats about it.
Yeah, but if it’s Nth tech, that thing may very well be able to project itself across a solar system to call for help. Or pick up a pizza.
Gripping! How useful is an opposable thumb?
She could type!
She could make misspelled words from a distance!
Just like autocorrect!
Sidney… just show Krona the aetheran gateway. That will let her violate the laws of physics in ways humans don’t know yet.
I think she want to keep that one as a secret ace in her sleave
At first i also thought she would. Then she used it in front of her store to get Grakz for NDT. Unless those were non-canon shenanigans, i don’t think she is keeping it all that secret.
an event we are waiting to see if it comes back to bite her. The one thing she has so far in her bag of tricks that gives away to any knowing party right away she has something beyond even the glowing squid level tech (ascended, 3rd level civilization, I like to call them glowing squids because they so often look like that to me), everything else can be passed off as magic orbs or strange exotic space ship components but with low enough power not to be too noticeable.
Makes one wander about the other upgrades. But yeah, the one thing Cora said to keep to herself she so casually in an open public area (assuming no people are outside in a public space in the daytime…or anytime, is folly) has to have some repercussions. I mean what if the space cops who called in the Fel ship being blasted stayed up there and monitored the surrounding areas, an Aetherium Gateway showing up the next day in the same relative area (view from thousands of feet up, checking for any other anomalies among the population), not far fetched they’d stick around to monitor for signs Earth has anything else powerful after seeing a Fel invasion being thwarted in minutes.
Remember Cora detected the Aetherium Gateway from space and virtually on the other side of the planet, space police should be able to do the same within a few miles.
Here’s the exciting part: Krona telling Dabbler what she sees in those fundamental underpinnings.
“I’m throbbing. The GOOD kind.” – Dabbler
I suppose there is some possibility that the six armed spooky that was shadowing Tamatha might be her biological mother. I doubt at the age of 14 she’s managed to acquire herself a mortal enemy, so whatever happened may not be personal. What could be a scary thought is that six arms might be a rouge supernatural who is looking to exploit a naive young succubus who doesn’t yet have the training or experience to protect herself.
I can imagine how six arms could be usefull for a succubus.
I would say it more likely that the six-armed silhoutte is a member of the race that made the orbs in the first place.
The race that made the orbs made them after they no longer needed physical bodies.
They were already Nth level in advancement so long ago that the memory of them is lost at Fracture.
Even hundreds of thousands of years ago they were far beyond such crude things as knives.
Why should it have to be personal? Tamantha is a DEMON. There are plenty of people who will want to kill her because she EXISTS. “Demon hunter” is a thing.
Then there is Sciona’s faction of Alari Ghosts who are posessing earth natives including as many supers as they can. Our kidnapper may be one of that crew trying to get rid of as many aliens and supernaturals as they can.
Sciona simultaneously has more power but is more vulnerable now.
We have seen Sci-fright possessing one super (and she didn’t even know she was an ex-super), with just two fellow Alari
Dabbler has extra arms. She is a hybrid so she may not have as many arms as a full breed. Maybe the 6 armed lurker is a full-blood of Dabbler’s multi-arm ancester’s species? That would make things rather interesting.
I doubt that would be the case. Based on conservation of detail and the very Human appearance of Decollette, I would expect that most of Xuriel’s significantly off-Human features come from the same parent. In other words the arms, yes, but also the digitigrade feet and the unusual ears (and possibly the now-lost tail, if that’s current canon). The horns are evidently a common Succubus trait, based on Decollette; the difference between her two and Xuriel’s four may just be how the Succubus ‘horns’ addition usually interacts with the template of Xuriel’s formative parent species.
Sydney… just show Krona the the aetherian gateway. That will let her break physics in a way no other earthling can.
Oh…hmm it didn’t look like it posted the first time.
Long standing problem with the comment section. Due to load balancing, web caching and other possible forms of buffering between the web server and you it can take upwards of 5 minutes sometimes for you to see something you posted show up. Just got to learn to be patient with it.
If she’s right about the orbs, then why are they so weak in comparison? I get that Sydney hasn’t unlocked all the nodes. But unless there’s a massive power up (or several) they aren’t messing with the universe much.
I think the creators of the orbs deliberately designed in some training wheels fora new user who doesn’t yet know how to not blow up her solar system. Give Sydney time to learn and unlock all the bells and whistles.
I suspect that a lot of the real power is in those small, unobtrusive single socket outside nodes.
Just as Teleport was.
I’m suspecting that those skill paths that just seem to sort of trail away bring up whole new branches of upgrades when activated. The skill tree Sydney currently sees is the preschool level interface.
The orbs were even at the beginning just a bit below maxima’s level. In speed at least, she is almost definitely above maxima and that was just with one pip. Then keep in mind Maxima has likely two sets of powers (geode power and base power). And that Maxima can tear capital ships of galaxy level threat villains a new one. And again, that Sydney doesn’t know what one orb can do and barely knows what another one does (green). Their shear efficiency of their power to size ratio makes them cosmic level items. And, just keep this in mind, they are at less than half power.
* sheer efficiency
Depending upon what Sydney is doing shear efficiency may be appropriate…..
She *really* looks crazy in those two panels, and you’re saying that that was not intentional? Well, you might consider changing them then, because there’s no way that I’m not seeing her on the verge of going “Muhahahaha!” as it stands.
nothing wrong with some Evil Laughter, it’s great stress relief. And good for contests at parties. Evil parties.
But no turning into a snake!
It never helps….
The orbs doesn’t grant you the power: when they upgrade there is an underlying power that alter the fabric of reality to change what they can do. Krona is looking into replicating the upgrade ability of altering reality. You are mistaking a piece of software with the language it is written with: Krona is trying to learn that language and Sidney orbs are the first instance where she could see that language employed in such a radical way
“But, wouldn’t that… destroy the universe?”
“Sacrifices must be made for SCIENCE!”
In the words of Narbonic “We just destroyed alternate universes where they probably don’t want to exist that much”
YES!
FOR SCIENCE!!!
honestly, I don’t like the direction the art in general has been shifting to recently. the individual parts are approaching photo-realistic, while the expressions and sometimes poses are still solidly in the realm of cartoon. I personally would suggest choosing to either tone down the details on some parts, or try to get more realistic expressions.
The second and third panels in particular are prime examples of what I’m talking about, and just look creepy to me. a realistic mouth taking up nearly half of the head is just not right.
if this continues I will honestly probably drop this comic. I’ve loved it for a long time, but reading a comic I don’t enjoy looking at just doesn’t work for me. either way I wish you luck in the future, and hope your artstyle continues to evolve in the way you deem best, even if it’s not everyone’s cup of tea.
I think it’s just too chibi, if the eyes were just a bit smaller it would probably be fine
I’m with beadd… Mostly. I won’t be abandoning the comic, but the “new” Sydney does look a bit… no, a lot… disturbing. Seriously, you had her nicely right in comic 671-level-duh(p).
Very few artists can get photo-realism. If not done properly all you give us is Uncanny Valley, see Requiem for “How It Should Not Be Done”. Fortunately, the story-line keeps it on track. Girl Genius is “How It Should Be Done”.
Very much agree about the comic 671 Sydney-artstyle. I liked that one better too.
Cereally? There have been pages where Sydney looked great, butt page 671 was not one of them
And do be remembering that Sydney is ‘in disguise’ right now
Wait, you trying to say ‘Girl Genius’ is supposed to be photo-realistic? o_O
Would you take “human-realistic”?
Decolette in panel 5 is human-realistic. Neither Sydney nor Krona in any panel is human-realistic.
Another good example of human-realism is “Dragons and Silk”… Caution, VNSFW.
To be honest, I really liked the styling after the first ten or fifteen pages, where DaveB seemed to have settled in. But the last few pages have been disappointing.
Sydney was never Western-realistic, she was always supposed to be Anime-based, same with Kronachrome
And would hardly call the Jaeger as being ‘human-realistic’, and half the ‘humans’ barely qualify for that label
Being based on anime, or any genre, has nothing at all to do with whether a character is pleasant to look at. The characters can be drawn in an anime style without looking like horrifying ghouls.
lol, girl genius is a fucking abortion
Welcome to the uncanny valley. Warning: TvTropes link!
I’m still trying to figure it all out. I like elements of the way it looks now, it’s sort of leaning toward Pixar-ish a bit, but the eyes are different. Honestly it takes a long time to do and I may try and scale it back to something a little more cartoony, then use the time saved to work on pin-up pieces and vote incentives where I can try and go ham on the art.
Personally felt any potential ‘issues’ would be due to Sydney being in disguise and not looking how she normally looks, no problems with the art itself
Her disguise has nothing to do with it.
I personally think that a more “cartoonish” look (with the black outline) will allows you to get away with all the funny and strange face expression without being creepy as hell. In this page Krona looks like Annabelle, the evil doll…
This does not in any way resemble anything Pixar has ever produced.
It’s mostly that Dave appears to not know how to shade skin. He seems to be using a single technique for every element. Reminds me of rookie 3d modellers that don’t know how to convincingly implement subsurface scattering.
Sydney’s night out has become a lot more interesting….!
Last we saw Tamatha,a shadowy figure was lurking over the restrooms,I wonder if there’s a connection!?
Nah,people lurk on rooftops all over this town, it’s probably just an innocent bystander.
“Maybe she saw what happened to Tamatha! HEY! Six-Armed-Ninja-Shadow-Warrior-Lady-Ish-Being! Have you seen a little girl with kinda purplish wings??
Oh, you have? You’re going to point the way with your six razor-sharp swords? How helpful!!”
Krona may need some high-tech 24/7 monitoring. Just sayin’.
If she can hack reality, I guess she can also hack regular electronic. That is particularly true if she can just change values in memory without even needing an interface.
Why would she bother fiddling? Just turn the monitor into a fish. End of problem. Bigger question, if she turned it back into a ankle monitor/bracelet/computer afterwards could she redefine what the code inside said? It’s the ultimate in machine level access problems.
Nope. Even higher tech. Like Dabbler no-seeum/ no detectum monitoring device.
I’m with Sydney here, a teen without a phone just doesn’t happen. Heck it takes armed police (his father) to get my grandson to give up his phone and he’s only 7 (it’s cheaper than chipping the kid and easier to track)
Who is to blame for that 7 year old having a phone in the first place? o_O
If the kid keeps getting ‘lost’, maybe he has a reason to
Too bad Krona’s ‘Do-Over’ isn’t in effect.
Killing Sydney would send her back in time 5 minutes.
Nobody going to mention boobs? Because boobs.
Boobs? Those three guys, Am I Right?
if she never saw the skill tree of the orbs before a skill point, she can’t say it doesn’t have a progress bar
Actually it’d be awesome for Krona to be able to watch Sydney in a lab setting – earn a point, open the skill tree, and spend it. They’d learn a ton about the orbs, even without her mad-science eagerness her.
Is it wrong of me to point out, that she did actually figure out how to do it manually?
Though she was in a hyper crazed state at the time so maybe it wasn’t high on her brain’s list of “Info to keep for later”.
https://www.grrlpowercomic.com/archives/comic/grrl-power-671-level-duhp/
Unless she’s since tried this again, and it only works while she has points to spend?
It’s unclear if she did that on purpose or if the orbs did it themselves as soon as she wasn’t using them to not die. But as she said, she hasn’t tried to do that since.
Since she’s Sydney, can we assume that she will excitedly wake up in the middle of the night and remember doing it…and then call Dabbler or Specs who immediately tell her to go back to sleep?
They’d be annoyed, but they’d yell at her to wait and meet them in the lab first. Dabbler especially isn’t the type to let little things like sleep patterns keep her from playing with the only known Nth tech in the galaxy at 2 am.
Honestly, I can’t believe ArcLight isn’t demanding a lot more of Sydney’s time. Preferably at a military test range in the middle of Nevada.
I think ArcLight is trying to keep how ludicrously overpowered the orbs are so the US Government doesnt find out-as seen with the warframe infested thingys invasion earlier the government will happily doom the entire planet for a sniff of potential weapons technology.
Didn’t sidney figured a way to open her sphere grid during her boss fight by making them spin ? Or did it only work because she had some points to spend ?
Correct me if I’m wrong, but didn’t she figure out how to do this? Though it’s possible the life or death situation she was in at the time took over and she forgot, or maybe she just doesnt want to tell Krona I guess.
Or this method only works when she has points to spend.

That must be some GMO mozzarella with extra casein in the mix. Casein is the protein that makes soft cheeses have a rubbery texture, and too much makes a substance that is very similar to natural latex but not as durable.
…Thanks, I am now thinking of eco-friendly casein disposable gloves for people to use for reasons like hair-dye.
There is casein glue and casein paint. I wouldn’t be surprised if you could make a rubber like product but you might run into some of the same allergy issues as latex.
Not so much Spider-Man’s webbing as an actual facehugger from Aliens…
Aren’t they just the cutest thing in that larval form? Y’know if you raise them right, they really do make great home protectors and cuddly widdle pets. Mind, it takes a special person to be able to handle a queen as they are SO fussy and demanding when gravid. Just not worth my time, but getting a feral queen to like you and let you raise some of her brood is so worth it. Mind, it does help to leave valuables about when you want to hatch new one.
p.s. really it’s no worse than being married to a red headed human…regardless of gender.
To be honest alien queens have many qualities I like a woman to have. Tall, strong, don’t take any crap from anyone, loves kids, can make any place a cosy lair, clever, adaptible etc. Too bad she is also a horrible rape monster. That is a definite dealbraker.
Abducting Tamatha?! Oh no you didn’t!
And the fried cheese was less integral than expected. More a sight gag that’s just sort of meh.
I just realized that a succubus on the cusp of adolescence is bound to look mighty tempting to certain types. They might even think she won’t mind….
Depending on the succubus, that ‘certain type’ may end up really regretting their actions very soon afterwards. For a short while, at least. But it doesn’t look as though Tamatha is really that type.
Krona and Sydney’s discussion in panels 1 – 4 reminds me of “Midnight at the Well of Souls” by Jack L Chalker. It’s been ages since I’ve read it, but there’s a computer named… Obie, I think?… that can manipulate the equations governing the universe and therefore alter reality.
(after doing some research)
Ah, Obie is introduced in the second book in the series. But I definitely recommend the series as a whole to Grrl Power fans.
The “Well of Souls” series was based on an ancient, now extinct, species that left very few artifacts behind. Some one hypothesized that they could create anything they needed by manipulating the “equations” of the universe to create what they needed on the spot. He developed a computer that could manipulate the equations the same way. Said manipulation extended to rewriting someone’s memory, and those of everyone around them, to the point where they perceived any changes done to them as having been that way all along. This lead to an important, if minor, plot twist early in the series. A group of archeologists was exploring one of the ancient species outpost. They discovered what the species was capable of and one of them decided to take advantage of it for personal gain. He killed all but one of the others. When the survivors were rescued, and the murder discovered, probes of the survivors memories revealed they both remembered the other one as the murderer. This was the tip off to the capacities of the ancient specie’s power. This led to the discovery of the planet known as “The Well of Souls”. In the second book, some one independently developed a computer, Obie, that had that same power. This led to several factions trying to locate the Well of Souls and use it for their own purposes.
Seriously, what’s with the ridiculously huge eyes in all of the last few pages?
Dave’s art style is evolving in a direction where textures are approaching photorealistic but dimensions are stubbornly staying anime-chibi. It’s triggering Uncanny Valley response.
Sydney and Kronachrome’s eyes have always been that big
Welcome to the webic, now go back to the start and read it all
No they haven’t, and that doesn’t make it better regardless.
Getting that excited about gaining the power to change one of the fundamental forces holding the universe together does seem kind of, uh, supervillain-y. Isn’t one of the lines between a hero and a villain the self control to know when not to use your power?
Can we all appreciate that the mozzarella stick is featured in every frame of this page. Art.
As a former teacher, I can confirm Sydney’s last words. The best way to ensure that any of my former students would behave in class was to threaten to take away their phones during class and I had to do that a couple of times.
It’s comforting to know that, given panel one, what Sydney has been referring to as ‘fried cheese’, are, in actuality, just mozzarella sticks.
I dunno where ‘fried cheese’ comes from, but it’s definitely not a colloquialism in my neck of the woods.
I sometimes have fried cheese grilled cheese sandwiches. The layer of fried cheese on the outside makes the toast extra crunchy!
Fried cheese is any cheese that has been fried. Some times they are dipped in batter before being fried which gives them a crunchy outer layer. Only some cheeses have a high enough melting point to be fried. Mozzarella is one of those cheeses, there are others. If Mozzarella cheese is used, and shaped like sticks, then they are called Mozzarella sticks. If a different cheese is used, they may be called cheese sticks or fried cheese. If they are not stick shaped, they would simply be called fried cheese. This is how the cheese is listed when part of another dish. Depending upon the restaurant, Mozzarella cheese sticks may be listed as Mozzarella sticks, Fried Mozzarella, Cheese sticks or Fried cheese sticks. Patrons of the restaurants may use these terms interchangeably.
High fat cheeses are best if you’re using them for frying grilled cheese sandwiches; The fat melts out to provide the oil for frying, and the protein portion forms the crunchy crust on the bread.
A panini press is best for grilled chese sandwiches, and you can do a lot of versatile things with one.
In the summer we use a panini grill for a lot of our meals in order to avoid heating up the whole kitchen.
So that image of Decollete is clearly a porn shot. While i am not against porn it’s gross and really out of place to just turn her into a fuck toy when she is trying to get help.
The facial expression is really out of place. This is the second time the fuck face has shown up in the club and out of place too
She’s just leaning forward in a very scooped neck shirt, and her expression… eh, well, looking at it now I guess she does look a bit like a blow up doll there, but she’s honestly just supposed to have her mouth open since she’s stressed out.
People tend to see what they want to see, not what was intended to be seen (although, Deco doesn’t leave much in the way of ‘not seen’ :P )
Not that you’re wrong or anything, but this whole comic is basically an excuse to draw porn.
And in previous pages I repeatedly stated a desire to see the young succubus be chaperoned in this environment… THIS was one of the reasons I gave. She’s a literal sexual predator who feeds on unsuspecting humans, has plenty of abilities she can abuse if she gives in to the temptation, AND there are people out there who see her as inherently dangerous to humanity and have dedicated themselves to hunting her kind.
OMG, the foreshadowing finally came true.
I’ve been waiting for this page since 775!

Isn’t Sydney fibbing a bit here? She did successfully manually pull up the skill tree that one time. Of course that may only work if there are currently upgrades available.
