Grrl Power #69 – Well she dodged didn’t she?
You know Dave, you should really sketch out that armor before you sit down to do the comic.
Nah, I have a pretty decent idea of what they should look like.
Really? Well at least do the helmets, those’ll be tough.
No I’ll knock those out easy.
—4 hours later —
I guess I can make some joke about the helmets not being ready at some point. /stab
This page was going to end on another joke but I got tired of drawing in tiny panels, and I wanted something a little bigger to introduce the Osprey and the “regulars” who we’ll eventually see are really anything but regular. They’re just not super powered. And before anyone compliments me on being awesome on drawing Ospreys, I’m sure you’ll be able to find pictures (that I’m assuming are public domain) in suspiciously similar angles on the intertubes. I’ll have to learn though, cause eventually I’ll need to draw them at angles that aren’t readily available online. Maybe I’ll have to resort to Sketchup models cause they’re a PITA to draw.
Does anyone know what modeling program they use for the 3D stuff in cartoons like Futureama and Young Justice? I’m assuming it’s 3DSMax with a plugin that together cost $8K. Sketchup is ok considering it’s free but it just isn’t designed for handling a lot of polys or doing remotely complex geometry. Blender looks complex enough but doesn’t have a usable toon renderer. :P
Oh dear,,, LOL LOL LOL
ok,,, maxima look GREAT in her first panel,,, with her wind swept hair and all,,,,,,,, altough that angle make her look like she is of asian blood
Yeah she does look a bit young and Asian in that one. She looks good, but it’s not quite her unfortunately.
Head might be a bit too wide, you get that V shaped chin that most anime use all the time.
Don’t sweat it though, it’s not like we’ll think she’s someone else … she’s pretty hard to miss in the first place.
:D
It’s not too bad…she just looks a little too dainty lol. Everyone’s given to slip up once in a while.
ok,,, just one comment,,,, about the girl arc swat,, at least i think it a girl,,, standing by the chopper or whatever its called,,,,,,,, those are some BIG feet she has..,,,they are longer then the width of her own torso,,,,
Boots. BIG boots. You do NOT want to know what is built into them. :)
Because if you knew, someone would probably have to kill you.
Never mind that. Her legs are almost twice the size of her entire upper body!
I’ve seen some attractive young women with those proportions. besides that armor has to be pretty thick.
Don’t mean to burst your bubble Dave…. but… where’s the tube strap on syd’s “Neo Impersonation” panels? :/
Also: Love Max’s reaction xD *Votes last panel for another Maxima header*
Even with her exotic appearance. Maxima is a mundane tp top all mundanes and Sydney is so far out there on the other end of the scale it’s hilarious.
And I apologize for nit picking. I know you worked hard on todays strip, but in the third panel Maxima’s comment balloon needs ( me, ) added in so that it reads correctly. :)
Hmm, not necessarily. Reads fine without the addition of “me”
So… Is Sydney actually capable of being serious? Like, ever? I am entertained, don’t get me wrong. I am just wondering if this comic is going to stay pretty much of the “silly laugh a day” variety or if they will ever manage to wring some small measure of competence out of her scrawny neck. Because they will need to for me to go from “Love the comic, it makes me laugh.” To “Hey fellow comic lover I have known for 25 years, you should really kill an afternoon and read this thing I found online about super-chicks, its awesome!”
Don’t change it for me or anybody else, you are enjoying what you are doing and so am I. I am just wondering if there is going to be a step to a more serious level at some point.
(That said, I actually read and enjoyed the first appearance of the freaking X-babies back when I was 20 or so, which both dates me horribly and says bad things about the stuff I will laugh at, so what do I know?”)
There will definitely be some serious stuff in the comic here and there. Mostly for what I have planned so far it’s backstory stuff that doesn’t involve Sydney, but I imagine the story will get a little serious here and there. That said, when I sign on for a actiony cheesecakey funny comic (or show), my interest tends to wane a bit when stuff gets all serious, and I hate it when something is seriously bipolar, going from slapstick to melodrama all the time (See the anime Mai-Hime as a prime example.) I can’t say for sure how my story will play out exactly, but I’m not going anywhere near melodrama and I suspect in general it’ll stay much more lighthearted in general.
You know, I can honestly see Sydney reacting to everything this way right now because she is more than a little freaked.
I’m sure that as she grows used to Maxima and the gang that she will return to less cartoony reactions. There are a lot of us that go ULTRA GEEK when stressed. Here’s hoping that she snaps out of it soon. But not before annoying Maxima juuuuuuuuust a bit more. Plus, she needs to bond with Dabbler, so they can team up and put miss fussy pants in her place from time to time.
The thing is, she’s been acting freaky from the get go. I think it’s just the way she is…
and how she likes it.
i wonder if her being normal is her freaking out and she just hasnt freaked out yet
See I’m just the opposite and I guess that’s why I love Joss Whedon’s stuff because it does go all over the place. Buffy, Angel, Firefly/Serenity all would go from serious to romantic to comedy to scary in a heartbeat and that was one of the things I liked about them.
Yes I have to agree! Firefly is my Favorite mainly for the humor.
Capt. Reynolds sitting naked in the desert “Yup that went well.”
After telling Simon that Kaylee died and he was out of time “I’m a baad man.”
Or River telling Jayne “Also I can kill you with my brain”
the perfect show’s for us A.D.D sufferers.
Serious, who needs serious? The comic is perfect as is.
Also, what happened to Syd’s glasses in the first of her neo impersonation panels? o-o
D’oh! /adds to list of things to fix tonight.
And where did the tube strap go when she’s slow-mo dodging?
Oh no,, Dave has a ”list” to,,,
She also does not have glasses on in the third to last panel.
Or a nose.
Maxima in that top panel. Just… Wow.
Yeah. Definite Presence thing happening there.
The armor looks a little bit like the Trojan armor, without the helmet. Look it up on U-tube. About the girls feet, just say they are armored boots. Love the last panel with maximalooking like a puppy that can’t understand whats going on in Sidneys head.
Nah, I recognize that look. It’s a cat owner looking at their kitten and wondering what the hell is going trough its head…
You’re probly right. Her head does look a bit Charley Brownish though.
Five will get you ten that no-one (not even Sydney herself) knows what’s going through her head…
max has an idea whats going through syds head based on mia-hime’s duron —-
max for geek points sayes “load chrome cartrage” as she puts a ball round in her side arm,
syd looks confused about max loading the weapon but is happy for the referance,
max finishes with an aim and fire at syds exuse for a mind.
Another free 3D render is Google Sketchup or however it’s written, though I’m not sure if it can be used for characters efficiently.
Sketchup is a great modeling program, but it is intended for things like Architecture and furniture. I use it a lot Dave and it’s very good for that. It doesn’t have poseable characters though, and while I know some sources for extras that increase it’s flexibility, I would only recommend it for things it’s good for. creating and positioning your reference backgrounds and things like the osprey, not for your characters. See my comment below where I posted some alternatives.
My impression is that Dave only wants it -for- scenery/artifacts, not for the characters themselves; after all, the scenery/artifacts are based on what can be found in reality, whereas the characters are all his own creation.
Yeah basically I just want to build some sets so that I can concentrate on knocking the comic out and not drawing cars in the background. It’s stuff that ought to be there as it adds to feel of the world but it doesn’t make the jokes funnier, and I can spend a lot of time on it. As spartan and amateur as my backgrounds are, they’re still time consuming.
It would certainly do that. [re the example in my post below]
Hahaha… I simply LOVE how Maxima looks in the last panel :D Epic :D
Just a thought. In a previous comic (and in the forums) you mentions ARC SWAT is a tenative team name. Doesn’t that mean that if they changed it, they’d have to order all now armor for their “Space Marines”, who have ARC written on their body armor?
Forget a $70,000,000 flying ride. Buying all new armor because you don’t like your team name is the real misuse of taxpayer dollars.
The part with Arc written on it,looks like they are removable.
The tags on current military uniforms, name rank ect, are all velcro now. so removable logos is entirely possible.
They’d still have to buy all new logo’s and patches, because they “didn’t like their team name”.
Realizing you have a bad name and changing it is a time honored profession with the US Military.
The most blatant example?
CINCUS. est. Dec 6 1922, based out of Pearl Harbor, redesignated, reorganised, and moved to Washington DC Dec 18 1941.
Yes. Pearl Harbor was one of the reasons.
tradition, not profession.
It’s just a paint job.
You can check this tutorial to add Daz 3D figures to Blender.

There is a tutorial on Cartoon Rendering in Blender here:
Toon Shading
Might be a little out of date, and need some tweaking to get the right look, but it’s all done through settings tweaking, so it is very fine-tune-able.
Or, very fine-tune-able even. Oh, for an “edit” or even “preview” button!
Oh, and there are some decent Osprey models in a ton of formats here:
Aircraft – Helicopters
From what I know of various armour systems, those shoulder bells OUGHT to be swappable if for no other reason than to allow for some adjustment for the user. Only the bad guys will get all their mooks from the vacuform-a-mook machine, right? :D
You know, Sydney might have “Let’s Get Dangerous” -switch… That would really mess up those who ignored THAT
Superhero… And make my day. :D If a baddie makes Sydney serious… It’s time to skip continents.Ahhh like Spidey…I can see that actually.
Forget that, if Sydney gets serious I’m heading to orbit – high Earth orbit. Just for safety’s sake, you know.
I hear Sovengard is nice this time of year.
I hear the Andromeda Galaxy is nice place to visit.
Yea, but I wouldn’t want to live there. If for no other reason, the Kelvins are annoyingly smug.
Well considering that the Kelvins have a hundred appendages and can see in a 360 degree radius and a visual spectrum into both the IF and UV bands it would be hard to identify their instrumentality. Oh and they are mental giants even among 23rd century humans could be a kink in relations. We will be colliding with the Andromeda galaxy in about 3-5 billion years. That might be interesting to see.
I have noticed that some of the V-22’s have forward masts for in-flight refueling sticking out the front too. But in this model they can be retracted like the weapons compliment. Saves on air drag from it.
Sydney and Darkwing Duck actually have a lot in common, personality wise…
oh wow,,, hadnt heard of DD in a long time,, darkwind duck,,,
“I am the terror that flaps in the night…”
Hmm… I wonder what line Sydney would use for an entrance…
Fear my breath!
“I am the terror that flaps in the night…”
(She tends to copy.)
I like how you shaded the clouds by the way, good attention to detail. The guy with the blond crew cut looks like he has something shoved up his but, must not like getting called in for small time stuff like a bank robbery.
Bank robbery with a Super involved – a fact the reporter will probably get told in a minute.
In such a case, especially in such a very public setting, ARC has to be seen to look like they are SERIOUS. It is almost 100% likely that some budding super is watching this footage and suddenly deciding to be a hero rather than a villain.
gotta say, the armor on these guys kinda reminds me of S.T.A.G, from saints row the 3rd,
just out of curiosity, did you ever manage to get around to playing it?
Nice move Sydney!!
Did Maxima got smaller in the last two panels?
Maybe Max’s height can vary depending on how, or if, her variable power pool is used?
Yep, she lost about 6″ in height and 3 cup sizes to boot.
Naw she’s just slouching/hunching in on herself. Like we all do when a friend/acquaintance is doing something we don’t want to be associated with. She needs a “I NOT with the crazy person” t-shirt.
Very kewl strip.
I would suggest, for the future, that the Osprey and other ARC SWAT vehicles should have some kind of visual recognition thing – even if just a logo on the tail, or ‘ARC SWAT’ in big letters on the side. Often see that kind of ID used by branches of the military, and civilian agencies as well.
a fist thats on fire
shorthand for superpowers
You’re right. I meant to do that, but I finished this page at 11:30 last night and was ready to call it finished. I’ll go in and add a few touches to the Osprey tonight.
By the way, I hope you have a really good excuse for letting them have an Osprey. Those were developed exclusively for the Marine Corps, after the Army and Airforce laughed at the idea and said it would never fly.
All I’m saying is, there better darn well be a Marine pilot in there. Especially as it is a completely different set of flight controls and handling.
Sorry, my Marine pride is flaring up a bit. ;-)
Well this team didn’t exist during the development of the Osprey. I don’t see why the pilot couldn’t be ex Marine… hmm, except I drew her in a USAF shirt once. I’m sure that’s a cardinal sin, and I have a joke or two about her being Air Force. Anyway the team only has two of them at the moment.
It DOES take two people to fly it. Unless you happen to be crazy good, and like blowing a blood vessel from the stress of trying to land solo. There could well be a Marine co-pilot.
And actually, if you are referring to Peggy, she’s enlisted, pilots are always officers. You either need a bio tweak, or make her a crew chief that is capable of piloting, but not the official pilot.
See, that’s weird, that pilots are officers. I was watching an episode of Dirty Jobs where he was replacing a fuel bladder in one of those flying refueler planes, then he went up to see a refueling, and the plane was piloted by a Colonel. It strikes me as weird that you’d have that many field personnel that are almost generals. I mean, when they land can they order around most of the rest of the people on base? Doesn’t that mean an airbase would have 20 colonels and 40 lieutenants and 100 captains? I thought officers were rarer that that – but I definitely need to revisit all the ranks on the cast page anyway.
funny thing–in the Air Force, pilots range from 2Lt all the way through General. The person in question was probably the Ops Group or Wing Commander (they need to keep flying to remain current in their airframes, so it’s not all that uncommon–besides, chance to be on TV!), and you’re right–there are very few full-birds at a normal base.
in the Army (which flies pretty much just helicopters), pilots are Enlisted or Warrants. To be blunt, it’s mostly political–the Air Force is run by fliers, while the Army is run by ground forces (so pilots are considered a necessary evil rather than a source of leadership)
the Navy and Marine Corps has a mix, with fixed wing aircraft piloted by officers and rotary wing aircraft (helicopters) primarily piloted by warrants.
Ah, that’s good to know. So basically I can make my pilots whatever I want (within reason) since this is a new branch.
I think the ‘theory’ in the Air Force is that a pilot’s ‘squad’ is their flight crew. So they are the officer in charge of making sure their flight crew gets their job done – which means that they are directly in charge of how well their plane is maintained.
I believe you are right. One estimate I heard was that for every hour in the air the jets need eighteen hours of maintenance.
I believe you are right. One estimate I heard was that for every hour in the air the jets need eighteen hours of maintenance. Add in to that the ground crew and the air crew.
Sorry, Marines use the MV-22. Air Force Special Ops use the CV-22.
@guncannonj This is true. While I don’t know the differences between the two ‘V-22s, the Osprey is not a branch exclusive aircraft. I’m in the Air Force myself, and actually plan on cross training into CV-22 Maintenance once my window opens up. Much as I love my job now, my short ass really needs to get on a smaller frame…
Being said, Dave, if you ever need any sort of clarification on military structure or the like, look me up and I’d be happy to help.
This definitely sounds like a cross-service force. And the Osprey definitely fits it’s expected deployment profile: fast response over a large area, to a site that is unlikely to have a landing area prepared. It fits.
if you really get down to it, the individual services only operate alone within their own Organize, Train, and Equip functions. Ever since 1986, actual functional operations are done by Joint (or Coalition) organizations, so “cross-service” would be implied…
Lets not forget that this Super Hero team is a branch of it’s own, and would probably have reqruited people from all branches and put them together in a team of their own making.
Offcourse, while Maxima has an Osprey as “company vehicle”, Sydney probably only have an old bike to drive around on … but she drives it LIKE A BOSS !
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7d-eGAIlTVs
but… she drove to the bank.. remember the tube getting stuck in the car?
Actually, I had completely forgotten about that.
Peggy is military but her bio doesn’t say what branch. It does say she can pilot a variety of helicopters so it’s not inconceivable that she’s ex… uh, I mean, former marine (she looks it) and is piloting the Osprey right now.
If her military job was sniper, she’s most likely Air Force. If she was a helo pilot, she’s more likely Army, less likely Marine, possibly changing service to the Air Force for Sniper training (or does she just happen to be a great shot?).
The logic: Air Force snipers are a subset of Security Forces–a demanding job for sure, but in both the Army and Marines, snipers are a subset of the Infantry, which has physical requirements a 5’4″ 100 lb individual is… unlikely to meet (a 10-mile march, while carrying 100 lbs of gear (50 lb ruck, 30 lb weapon/ammo, 12 lb water/rations, uniform, etc) is challenging for a 200 lb person–eliminate most of the muscular body mass, and it may well be impossible)
I’m not saying any of this is absolute… just laying out most likely scenarios
My question: Is Max going to ask or force Syd to come along? And if she does (either), is Syd going to go willingly?
Sydney? wanting to be a superhero? and actually having a purpose for the contents of her tube? naaaaaaaaaaaah… (look at the first comic again, I’d say shes willing to go quietly [in awe])
Willing to go ? probably
Go quietly ? No way !
She’ll be up in the cockpit making engine noises with her mouth. :D
tousche, sheela, tousche XD
engine noises ha more like “what does this do?” noises while cycling controls. if she doesn’t somehow just fligh the thing (syd “I never crashed in the arcade.”) maxs power may be logic or order fueled and we all know what effect syd has on logic and order …… I think I should slip to this other layer of reality when syd and daby mess with max.
She’s also worried about becoming a government guinea pig.
*prod*
flee
You know, at this point, I’d be saying, “HELL NO, you’re to childish to even think about joining a team of superheros. Come back when you can stop acting like you’re 5.”
Yeah I don’t think anyone in their right mind would give her a badge. She’s definitely acting screwier than I had planned when I started the comic, but I think I can incorporate it.
It’s also entirely possible Sydney is playing up the crazy deliberately to deflect attention in an odd sort of way.
I did something very similar once with a character I had in a role playing game – everyone *expected* the shaman guy to act weird, so he deliberately exaggerated those mannerisms as a smokescreen to cover certain Geasa he was operating under. To my knowledge the only person who caught on was the follower of Coyote (who thought it was hilarious).
In short, you act crazier than you have to so nobody can figure out what things you literally cannot do. At least in public or around people who do not have your absolute trust.
Alternatively she really *is* that screwy, but has other redeeming qualities … such as being stronger than Maxima, or being able to defy gravity like a cat … in slow motion !!
/watch?v=705OzYq7cXU
ugh, forgot part of the link … here’s the whole thing :

Could explain a lot of Sydney’s current crazy as a kind of panic / stress reaction.
Heck, she has just been in the middle of a bank robbery, been taken hostage, had a near-death experience, met a superhero, appeared on the news, is on the verge of being more or less “outed” as a super herself and is now looking at frickin’ Space Marines. That is a lot to take in all in one go for any person, so no wonder her crazy has ramped up to, and stuck at, 14.
Odds are, when things have quietened down a little, Sydney will then start mentally reviewing all the stuff she has been saying and doing ….
…. And then she will feel really REALLY embarassed. ;)
Sydney? Embarrassed?
Pfffffthahahahahahahahahahah!
Sydney IS capable of feeling embarassment or, at the very least, of thinking “Oh Ghod. Did I REALLY just do / say that?”. Just …. not all the time..

I have no problem with it. Right now, Sydney is not applying to be on a superhero team, let alone a military one.
Given the rarity of supers, one might overlook certain personality quirks…
like having four arms, hooves and ears coming from her eyebrows? :P
You be respectful of Dabbler! I want to father her alien/succubus/doppelganger/cyborg love children.
Back off, she’s mine! :P
You guys can have Dabbler. Dibs on Harem.
Personally I like Sydney but I’m weird!
I don’t know about you guys but I like Maxima and Anvil. I’m about 6’1″ so neither would tower over me like they do Syd and I’m not easily intimidated (too much time in high school as the short bookworm).
Joy!
And here I was worried that I wouldn’t have a rival for her affection to vanquish.
Nice to meet you. After I have destroyed you and won her love, I hope we can become friends. ;-)
Sorry but you will lose and your mind will never be the same, But you will be my friend in the end. I will feel sorry and responsible for the total destruction of your grip on reality. :)
I wouldn’t dream of messing with you Gamesman. I was referring to adamas. As far as I can tell, we are the ones vying for Dabbler. I give you free reign with Sydney.
Yeah I noticed that after posting. Wish I could delete my bad posts.
The question is whether is in the public interest and safety for a super-powered Sydney to be left alone without supervision.
Excellent point. Who knows how many crims will get tongue-flipped if Sydney is allowed to wander around unsupervised?
i don’t think super vision is that nesessary, she probably has much more awesome powers allready
Since we’re nitpicking the Osprey, I feel like the guy guarding it is about 12-15 feet tall since it looks like he could reach up and touch the underside of the fuselage from where he’s standing. After checking wikipedia, the proportion difference isn’t as bad as I thought, but I still think he might should be a little shorter. Oh screw it.
Did I mention I love this comic and stuff?
By the way, that guy has boobs.
Hot chick with a big gun and even bigger boots.
I wonder if Elf over at Schlock Mercenary is jealous.
Why you’re quite right! About the boobs. Kinda hard to tell if she’s hot from here, though. But I’m big on pretty faces. *shrug*
Pretty faces are great too. But ya gots ta respect a woman with giant boots.
She is the one what? You’d be surprised how many of the “the ones” there are.
Oh, Matrix dodge.
I don’t know if anyone else got the reference, but Sydney saying “I am the One.” is a reference to Jet Li’s movie The One.
Does this mean we can look forward to Sydney smacking someone with a police bike, wielded as a melee weapon?
It could also be Matrix Neo was “The One” in that movie.
1. Loving this series. Definitely the webcomic I most look forward to each week.
2. For 3D stuff, I’ve tried Cheetah 3D on the Mac. Haven’t done *too* much with it, but it’s cheapish and I found it a bit more intuitive than the average 3D programs out there…
Hey look! Its Duke Nukem!
I am starting to wonder if Sydney’s powers are to cause super-confusion.
Quick question: If that’s there to pick Maxima up, how did she get to the bank in the first place? It makes some sense to send it with a PR/cleanup team after an incident (which the bank robbery could be just stretched to include), but I can’t see her going to the bank in an Osprey. (A HMMWV, that I can see; she’d have just checked it out of the motor pool, as I can see her not having a car.)
Could have flown there. It’s one of her powers after all. Of course it’s also possible they are going to pick up her car too or one of the “grunts” will be assigned to drive it back. Rank hath it’s privileges.
ok,, make me wonder,,,,, what of sidney’s suv,,,,,
I imagine the Osprey is actually there to pick up the super powered “bank robbers.” Max has made a point to the paramedics about how dangerous they are, so obviously, they need a specialized transport. Given that, I have to assume that there’s a couple of medical people, whether real or not, on board to take responsibility for the “patients.” Max, of course, may go with them as “extra security.”
Even though picking up the bank robbers sounds good, why bother putting them in the ambulance? Theres only one reason I can think of other than publicity for the news crew about ARC-SWAT, and thats to get Sydney interested enough to come along. She’ll be too busy to notice that they’ll be monitering her as she gets a tour round a hero base.
The ambulance wasn’t there to pick up SUPER-criminals it was there to pick up two mundane, NORMAL-criminals… the Super part of the equation only came into play after Max went into the ambulance to “interview” the guys, one of which was supposed to be unconscious… but wasn’t… then she came out and told the ambulance team that one of them had super-powers and they might not want to leave with them… so “obviously” the Government/cops/whoever was contacted while inside the ambulance and told they have a pickup to make, yadda, yadda, yadda… and her it is the paddy wagon for SUPER-criminals…
even though Max knew right from the start that the two were part of her team she had to play along with the charade to make it look believable for the cameras…
Yup.
I wouldn’t say Max knew from the start but once Amorphus got flipped by the tongue, I’m sure she figured it out.
A lot of this type work is done in Poser or Daz Studio. There are a lot of tutorials for making pages of drawn art with Daz as the bases for example. Right now Daz3D is giving away the 32 bit version of Daz Studio 4 free https://www.daz3d.com/i/products/daz_studio? however it will not work on a 64 bit computer. You can get a lot of models for free too but it’s hit or miss that way. Making your own is more of a challenge. For freebies try Daz itself (limited number but they post a new one about every week and it’s good to get it before it goes to it’s regular price.) Rendedosity and Digital Creations. A Google search will bring up a surprising number of free models as well but mostly very old stuff.
Daz or poser is like arranging dolls in a way. You can make your own items and many do. Sketchup is the program I’d recommend if you just want to make your own. There are a few artists who do that too, check out https://www.true-magic.com/blog/page-150-panel-process.php. It shows how Aja, the creator of “True Magic” uses Sketchup to help in the creation process. Not a tutorial but a good example.
Poser/Daz Tutorials: https://www.renderosity.com/news.php?viewStory=13559 followed up at page 2 https://www.renderosity.com/news.php?viewStory=13565 and https://www.cocs.com/poser/index.htm
The issue isn’t necessarily the software, but it needs to be able to render out “toon style” which is what initially attracted me to skeptchup. I was looking for something that would produce just clean lines for my backgrounds that I could hand color, but maybe I’ll wind up looking at doing more involved 3D backgrounds with textures and all, which would maybe make the comic look more like a screenshot of an animated show. Not necessarily a bad thing.
You can do that in Sketchup, and there are even pre-made models available for it. I’ve never looked at them since I mesh myself (create a 3d scene) to sell. Don’t want to be accused of plagiarism or anything. Google earth has a lot of pre-made models for architecture and such. In addition there are plug-ins that will make things like doors or windows to position with a few simple actions, great short cut for standard looking items. Plus it has an easy learning curve. You can actually mesh something in minutes, instead of hours, of study. Based on what you’re saying you want I’d say it’s the program to go with. I’ve used some of the others and none of them are nearly this easy.
Let me know (here not through the email listed. It’s valid but I never check it.) if you decide to use it. I’ll point you at some of the resources that can help. Been using Sketchup for a couple of years now and I’ve helped more than a few get started in it.
Very cute and hilarious, keep up the awesome work.
that thing… is going to land in a bank parking lot? talk about attention getter…
Given there a heroic military group im kinda supprised at the lack of decorative paint on the ofsprey, or nickname for it.
I think they may have just taken delivery. Give them a few weeks and that thing will be all tatted up.
It will be interesting to see just what type of paint job Dave would throw on it.
na covert op mission capable no ID and paint would probly would mess with the laser counter high gloss shine.
look its the arc suits Quick everyone go grab your rage game!
she just reminded me of this one old dnd char who could do the impossible as long as he belived he could …..and no one told him it was physicly impossible if they did the effect would istantly cancel
aka walking on the ceiling orattempting to fly hed drop like a bag of bricks
hehe,, that remind me more of cartoon laws,,, like walking in the air,,, your fine as long as you dont see or feel it air,,,,,, or simply like something in whitewolf,,the marauder in mage were mages who were so insane that they made theyr own reality inside theyr sphere of influence,,,, basicly the world around them bent to theyr own view of it,,, and unlike normal mages,, who would get slaped with huge blowback for doingh so by reality itself,, those guys were imune to that,,,
i remeber a friend told me a bout his only time playing white wolf and one of the other players jumped of a cliff and dodged the groundand kinda hovered for a minute or two
very intresting game heard its like a malkavian on a good day tho someone said they removed the dodging of ground types of stuff

There you go I made the topic for you.

I also asked some questions in there.
I’ve read through Wereworld, and I gotta say Dabbler over there is AWESOME! Please Dave PLEASE! Don’t make her different in this comic from what she is in Wereworld! She is all awesome like that.
“They shall be my finest redshirts, these men who give of themselves to me… Like stick figures i shall draw them, and in the blandness of archetypes color them… They will be of strong jaw and emotionless faces. In bulky armor shall I clad them, and with GIANT MUSCLES will they be equipped. They will have guns, military cut hair and sunglasses so that people can look cool beating their asses. They are my bulwark against blank backgrounds. They are the weakest badasses ever. They are my Space Marines, and they shall know no development.”
…
What? I like Warhammer 40K. Doesn’t mean i like space marine archetypes =P
eh, that was meant as a joke…
Heh heh I know those guys look totally generic, and while they won’t have nearly the screen time as the heroes, they’re not redshirts. That’s definitely a trope I want to play with.
Sydney: GUH! You just removed that guys SPLEEN with your THUMB! Like a boss! And YOU! Other guy! You just removed that guys THUMB with your SPLEEN! Double rainbow!
you forgot to mention that theyr neck is thicker then theyr own head,,, i mean in the archetypes,,, the good old i am meant to look tough,,, but also meant to be dispatched by the hero so easely he look even tougher
“Cool Space Marines!”
Anytime you get to say that is going to be a good day.
You could try AC3D for some of your 3D stuff. Its not free but it isn’t $8K either. Just a thought
Very good photo-realistic work on the Osprey. But will Sydney go along with Maxima to be “experimented” on? That’s what she thinks will happen! :)
*Pokes you with an ink pen cap*
Please oh PLEASE oh PLEEEEAAAAASE let Sydney mess with the escort detail!
They’re like Buckingham Palace guards! I bet they don’t smile or react at all EVER. :D
But I bet Sydney could get them to crack…. How would she possibly be able to resist trying?
After all…. She IS The One.
Blonde one looks like he’s frowning too hard in order to to keep from cracking up.
There is still the plane-ride back. Oppurtunity, at least, for Sydney to ask them a couple of totally-off-the-wall questions. Like “Have many aliens have you fought?” or “What does this switch do?”
Or accidentally trigger the cargo ramp and get sucked out at 10000 feet…. forcing SOMEONE to save her narrow butt. Or maybe use her majik space alien miracle poster tube of science to save herself hmmmmm?
“Oh no, not again”
YOING!!!!!
i would love to see the reaction of everyone watching her outside of the plane being kept from free falling out only because maxima is holding the tube
I have seen a crew chief nearly shoot someone who asked the “What’s this do?” while reaching for the big red button. They got to spend the rest of the flight with their hands zip tied to their belt loops. And we all laughed and laughed.
realy a couple of airbornes I knew got the radio op to come in back and freak when they said they where curious about some controls they could reach but no firearms or zipties. still when I handed my T10D to the jumpmaster before exiting I believe she may have been willing to go to those lengths. they had stern words for me on the drop zone about proper wear and use of equipment followed with reasons we don’t pass do flybys on the bird that we jump from.
I love the contrast between Max (can I call her max) looking all dramatic with the chopper and Max looking all “What the F” in the last couple panels… Hilarious.
I’m practically buzzing with curiosity at what’s inside that tube. >,..,< Lol
This page is awesome, I wish I could do stuff like this. XP I'm not too handy with that sort of shtuff.
