Grrl Power #670 – Orbital bombardment obstacle course
Sydney’s speed upgrade was significant. She didn’t go from mach 4 to 5. I’ll leave the actual number for a fun reveal later when she challenges Maxima to a race or something.
Okay, it’s mach 16. I didn’t want to wait to tell you. She went from 4 to 16. It’s really fucking fast. Honestly it’s too fast for Sydney, because she may not have the reflexes she would need to avoid things like planes, buildings, other supers. Not an issue on this world so much, but still, it means she can circumnavigate the Earth (let’s assume this planet is within 10% of the same size) in about 12 minutes… assuming I did the math right. Historically I haven’t been great with that. But you can see how it might be a problem for her resolving something on the horizon and reacting to it before she’s on top of it, (or blowing through it) and near misses don’t count when you have the sort of wake she would generate.
Edit: NOPE! I screwed up the math as per usual. It would take her roughly 2 hours to circumnavigate the globe, not 12 minutes. Gah.
Honestly, come to think of it, mach 4 is a lot faster than she should be traveling, even with her map of air traffic.
Double res version will be posted over at Patreon. $1 and up, but feel free to contribute as much as you like.
Heh, this would go good with a modified version of the Sonic X Theme:
Go go go go go go go
Gotta Go Fast,
Gotta Go Fast,
Gotta Go Faster Faster
Faster faster faster
Flyin’ at the speed of sound
Quickest human around
Got ourselves a situation
Stuck in a new location
Without any explanation
No time for relaxation!
(Here: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=cxCinYd5DEA )
Don’t wait!
Don’t think!
Just go-go-go-go-gogogogogogo!
NANANANANANANA!
NANANANANANANA!
I’ll just leave this here. https://youtu.be/gmXEIdLQwHQ
Much better and more fitting lyrics. Follow my rainbow is a pretty apt description of Sydney’s mach 16 flight. She is also escaping a (ruined) city.
Hmmm…Considering Sydney’s usual attitude & thought processes, I would’ve more expected this:</a"
Go Go Halo, watch her go go go.
One little Halo, left all alone.
One little Halo, no teammates near.
Well, at least Halo is in the military so the song's mention of a colonel & sargeant is still appropriate…
Woo, I messed up the script for the link, but it still works.
I was responding mostly because while sonic heroes was okay sonic adventure 1 & 2 were much better and are probably the best of the 3D sonic games. I can’t help but reference them when someone references the inferior sonic titles that came after. At least they didn’t reference sonic 2006.
Both me and that other guy were doing the Lyrics to the Sonic X Cartoon which I have a Link to above. We weren’t doing games. Just change the references to running and Sonic and it basically describes Sydney currently.
Here she comes.
Here comes Speed Halo
She’s fighting demons with spheres
She’s a hero and he’s gonna be chasin’ after someone.
She’s runnin’ on you so you better look real mean.
She’s busy screamin’ at her powerful Mach 16.
And when the odds are against her
And there’s dangerous work to do
You bet your life Speed Halo
Will shoot right through.
Go Speed Halo!
Go Speed Halo!
Go Speed Halo! Go!
Wouldn’t the wake not be caught up to her yet in panels 7 & 8?
That’s not the wake there. I think that’s just the trail her shield leaves, since it’s rainbow colored.
It’s not the shield. It’s the light from the orbs–note the colors.
Mach 16 is quite fast enough. 19,600.64 kmh. Included the 0.64 because, well, people are picky like that.
At that speed Sydney would not be in the vicinity of the explosions she is dodging long enough for her shield to feel it, except that maybe the heat from them may be an issue.
Scramjet speed?
Still she has yet to get up to Voyager 1 speed which is Mach 50.323939 or 62139.9998772 km/h. To Jayessell she is going faster than baseline theoretical scramjet projections of between Mach 12 (14,000 km/h) but below its top projections of Mach 24 (25,000 km/h). It is enough though to get and keep her in low Earth orbit which is around 17,000 km/h.
17, 000 km/h for LEO? What altitude? I thought it was higher than that, but I’m no expert.
If I recall correctly, the Space Shuttle was reentering at 17, 500 mph.
So I decided to look into it myself with the help of
With a Sydney sized mass, and a mean orbital velocity of 17,000 km/h around the earth, you would get a mean orbital height of about 11,500 km, with an orbital period well over 6 hours.
I think you mixed up your units.
Orbital velocity doesn’t depend on your mass until you are so heavy you start gravitationally affecting the planet you orbit.
The normal LEO orbital velocity is around 7.8 km/s (28,080 km/h). The ISS orbits a little higher and has a speed of 27,600 km/h.
The only way she’s going to be able to safely use that speed is to reach the coastline, then use it to gain altitude as well as travel a distance. The sonic boom alone would cause considerable property damage if she used this over land, and traveling at the same altitude as anything else would be dangerous for other people. She may have to look up the cruising altitude for the Concorde when she gets back.
See the motion picture The Lost Missile.
mach 4 on ground level is already devastating.
Maybe Sydney could use her speed offensively? Hit the enemy with shock waves or herself while bubbled.
The formula for calculating kinetic energy (KE) is KE = 0.5 x mv2
Anybody?
At Mach 16, she could obliterate things just by running into them, but could she survive impact?
If she has her shield up she can.
She could use an ICBM type path, go straight up, slowly accelerating then traverse at max speed half way to space (above any planes, below any satellites), then go back down.
She could just make it a point to fly at an altitude nothing travels at, like 70k feet.
Will have to be higher, the U2 plane flies at 70,000 feet.
They’re both Military. That’s what Air Traffic Control is for, to clear flight paths beforehand.
Does the U2 clear its flight path with Air Traffic Control though? Isn’t one of the reasons it flies so high up is because nobody is supposed to know where it is? In any case, Sydney has no height limit so she can just fly a little higher.
She can just fly into space, where nobody will crash into her and she can just keep accelerating rather than traveling at the same speed to cut down her flight time.
Actually atthose capabilities, she is a semi-viable solution to an IRL problem that’s starting to crop up – space junk. Upgrade the lighthook to a lightnet, grab a bunch of non-fuctional, potentially dangerous mess, and drag it back down/let it burn up in the atmosphere, so it doesn’t puncture something useful and/or possibly containing humans XD
Actually rather than make the stuff burn up on re entry, simply take it all down and have it recycled. Better for the environment for one thing and lots of valuable materials can be salvaged. Hell even better, failed satellites or ones that need repairs can be captured and safely returned to Earth to be fixed or decommissioned and even better will be far cheaper means of getting objects into space, lower costs and none of the risk of it blowing up on take off. Saves a hell of a lot of money and will make future space missions more viable. Ok her lighthook can only lift 16 tonnes but take Max with you, make a big ass shield and away you go.
Its reason for flying so high and fast is so the Soviets can’t build anything to shoot it down. At that height you can’t really hide, and at that speed you probably don’t give a rat’s rosy rump who sees you anyway.
crap. I was talking about the SR71. the U2 fell to a purpose-designed Soviet missile. The SR71 was designed in response.
Poor 1.4 eyes – he got a splittin’ headache all of a sudden.
I’m sure he will get their equivalent of the Purple Heart, and tell his grandsquids about the time he fought the evil micro-monster.
Depending on where he keeps his wedding package, grandsquidies may be ruled out.
Back home Sydney should definitely not use max speed at anything but 80,000 feet or higher.
Let’s see… around the earth in 12 minutes, that means 200,000 km/h. That’s hella fast, Sydney!
Then something’s wrong with the math. Since even a orbiting spacecraft in LEO takes about 90 minutes to get around the Earth at Shuttle or ISS height.
When you’re talking about orbits, to go up you have to slow down, to go down you have to speed up.
I am aware, but not relevant in this particular case. If you want to learn very directly orbital mechanics, I recommend playing Kerbal Space Program.
or work at NASA.
The way NASA is run now, you would learn more watching old episodes of “
LostPigs. in. SPPAAACCCCEEEEE!!!!!!”Sure, she probably can’t avoid obstacles very well at this speed…but on the other hand, these explosions are the only things she’s ever run into that can even bother her shield anyway. After she escapes from them, she can act as a kinetic weapon by just flying through obstacles with her shield up, which may be preferable to the Pew Pew Orb in certain circumstances, although she rarely has a chance to cut loose like this on Earth.
Now would definitely be a good time to destroy that screwship.
This option has been discussed in several previous comics. It all depends on how good the inertial dampers are with the fly ball inside the shield. Even if it did hold up to the impact, she could still wind up as a Jackson Pollock painting on the inside of the shield.
Neither being knocked off the sky last week nor the mach 16 swerve today seem to have affected her in any way inertia-wise.
Mach 16. And I assume that it is not the last possible speed upgrade, so maybe she could like – maybe- tickle the speed of light and thus kinda travel in time ? :D Or Am I just taking the assumptions too far?
Too lazy to check the pattern for upgrades, but if there is like 5 speed possibilities, and the next one is the 4x previous, then at 5 upgrades, her final speed would be 1024machs O.o. Thats is 1 254 400 +- kilometres per hour. So her trip to moon would be done in like 18.4 minutes :D
Just my thoughts :3 Really looking forward for more informations.:3
The upgrade was the last slot on the line, but this enabled another, previously grayed out, series. Presumably the next string is for intraplanetary movement.
The speed could conceivably be squared though, though having mach as the basic unit for the speed curve doesn’t really make sense.
Might not be a linear progression, either. You will note that 16 is also 4 *squared*.
Oddly enough, I had half expected that her new speed would be Mach 16, precisely because it’s Mach 4 squared. Huh. Wonder if the next speed upgrade gets her up to warp speeds? Or maybe just much faster but still sub-light velocities?
I am still wondering what the other string of options is on her ‘Flight/Movement’ orb that are already checked.
I was just musing about that, myself. It’s an entire per-requisite strand that appears to require all the other features to be full first. We know the one strand is speed, so I’m guessing the other is tow strength (since she couldn’t get out of the tractor beam, and Dave admitted her force wasn’t super strong). So, the gray per-requisite strand should be an entirely new feature to the orb. Navigational system? Perhaps it’s availability will pop up when she gets the next speed upgrade, after this one – on the newly available speed upgrades. Navigation would be needed at warp speeds, and I know a lot of people have commented on the possibility. Makes sense to me!
Yeah, but it is only squared in machs. Mach 1 is also 1224 km/h. 1 squared is 1, while 1224 squared is 1 498 176. 1 498 176 km/h is the same as mach 1224. Why would the orb use mach as its basic unit? Though, I guess there could be Dave-math behind it, it’s an easy thing to miss.
Belatedly realising that came out a lot ruder than intended. Sorry about that, Dave!
Am I the only one who thinks of Taggert from Eureka when the word serpentine is used?
No, no you are not. Great show.
“The In-Laws,” a movie from 1979.
That is what I was thinking.
And now I feel old.
That is what I was thinking.
Now I feel old.
I heard about it first from gmod prop hunt and Sark, SeaNanners etc. funny bits that.
Well, now she can do an orbital flight to get anywere she wants fast enough. Except the 10km radius, of course.
Don’t be frightened Sydney, they are just giving you the traditional 21 gun salute. Except in their culture, it is aimed directly at you to show they respect your prowess as a warrior.
Really fast but not quite there , escape velocity Mach 33
Mach 16 would be 2.1 hours to circle the earth at 11857mph
so I think Sydney’s orb need to have double it for basic story line functionality
She can escape earths pull easily enough at mach 4. She did it earlier on her aborted trip to the moon.
If you wanna get technical, she could “escape the Earth’s pull” by going 1 km/h depending on how much power (torque?) the orbs have. They don’t seem to be following normal physics so it’s possible that when she holds the flight orb, she is completely unaffected by gravity (the shield orb could be doing that too so using them both at once is a double wammie).
No, it’s definitely just the flight orb. On the roof fight against Sciona’s mecha-thingy Sydney had the floor cut out from beneath her and fell despite having the shield orb up.
And her hair flanking thinguis do not fall when she gets ubside down at the presentation of the flight orb
Escape velocity mean that if something starts from the earth surface and can’t accelerate/maintain speed while it is flying then it needs to start with at least escape velocity to escape. Basically it is for inert projectiles. If you can accelerate then you can leave as long as you can counter gravity. If bird wings coul fly without air they could escape at their normal speeds.
The fish deserved it!!
Now I know your real name is Mr. Creosote.
“Awww, the poor squid-thingies! Dey faw down, go BOOM!!”
I think the order is “Go BOOM! Fall Down.”
“Big bababoom.”
baddaboom
Senno ecto gammat!
klaatu barada nicto.
She’s gone plaid!
LOL! That was a great movie!
Am I the only one who thought that the ominous glow and subsequent explosion was Syd going fast enough to set the atmosphere alight? At mach 16 I should think that’s almost possible – that’s basically re-entry from orbit.
Re-entry is usually around Mach 25 and that doesn’t do it.
… on Earth.
Maybe this planet’s atmosphere is flammable?
If so those explosions or her pew pew orb would have done it already. They’re putting a lot more heat into the air than compression in front of Syd.
Something tells me she’s going to challenge Max to a race, when she’s back, while quoting Sonic.
Radius of our earth = 6,371 km
Speed of sound = 0.343 km/s
Mach 12 = 4.116 km/s
Circumference of earth = 2*Pi*Radius = 40030.17 km
Time to circumnavigate (around widest point) = Circumference / Speed = (40030.17 km) / (4.116 km/s) = 162 min = 2.70 hours = 2 hours 42 min
Hope this helps with your calculations in the future, earth is big, much bigger than many people give it credit for, space is even bigger.
Don’t forget that earth is not a perfect sphere (though it is close), and orbits are not perfect circles either. Though for time approximations you can often get close using circles. For exact numbers you often have to resort to Vector Calculus.
Mach 16 is 12,160 mph at sea level as the speed of sound (Mach) is 760 mph at sea level (760×16=12,160)… that breaks down to 19,456 k/ph assuming the base conversion of 1.6 km per mile. The speed of sound is less at higher altitudes as the air density lessens.
Going Mach 16 at low altitude might make you a menace just from the sonic boom…
Honestly. I don’t think the Speed Upgrades would mess with her reflexes. If we assume that the orbs are making her a spaceship. It wouldn’t make sense for them to make a ship that couldn’t steer itself. So it’d make sense for the speed orb to alter her response time, reflexes, and perception to allow her to go fast.
Otherwise she would have gone blind when moving at such high speeds. I mean she already surpasses the Black Out Speed for human speeds. https://rechneronline.de/g-acceleration/
If she starts at 0 M/S (standing speed), and hits her previous max of Mach 4 (1,372 m/s). And it takes her 10 secs to hit max speed. That’s 13.99 Gs (since we see it takes her almost no time at all to hit max speed. I high balled it to say 10 secs).
Humans pass out at 6 Gs, or for Fighter Pilots can go for 9Gs for a sec or two.
So yeah. Her orbs allowing her to gather photons quicker makes sense. Since really it’s not “goes so fast that she can’t react”, rather goes so fast her brain can’t perceive images fast enough to react to them.
So yeah, I don’t see her going Hyper Sonic as causing problems (12,276 MPH).
As for Circumnavigating the world. It took the https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Concorde going at Mach 2.0 about 33 hrs (rounded up) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Circumnavigation_world_record_progression (final entry on list). Mach 4 is double Concorde speed (or half time). So 16.5 hrs, and at Mach 16 (4 times higher, or divided by 4). Would take 4.12 hrs.
I think it’s pretty clear that the acceleration from the orbs is functionally inertia-less, from Sydney’s point of view. She indicates no signs of force or stress even while making rapid turns at 16x the speed of sound. In other words, she’s pulling 0gs.
Doesn’t necessarily mean that the orbs would be able to compensate for her slamming into something unyielding at those speeds, though it seems likely that they would. The fact that she wasn’t turned into jello inside that shield when those massive blasts hit her earlier indicates that the orbs have the ability to negate fairly extreme impulses.
True. Which is kind of what I was getting at.
If she wasn’t “the ship”, the G’s would kill her at the speeds she travels.
But since she’s able to see, react, and move at Mach 4, with the same level of precision she’s move at running speeds, if not better.
Then speed wouldn’t matter for her. At Mach 16, she’d be able to maneuver, and react with as much precision as she would at the lower movement speeds. Just at a faster level. Although she would need Max’s help in learning how to go that fast without her wake destroying city blocks, or shattering every window (and eardrum) in a few mile radius around her.
Where did you find that Sydney has mach 4 reaction speeds?
She can fly that fast and not accidentally plow through things, but so can regular pilots.
The Author stated that she can go at Mach 4 pre-upgrade.
And there was only one jet made that went that fast. Others maxout around Mach 3 at their top speeds (averaging at Mach 2). And they need serious training to go that fast.
But we see that Sydney doesn’t notice her going that fast when flying with Max. Max kept speeding up incrimentally to see how fast Sydney got. And Sydney took no notice they were going faster and faster.
So it goes to stand that when using the orbs. Whether going at running distance, or going max speed. To her if its not pointed out, feels the same perception wise.
And we see the level of coordination she has. No. I think the orbs heighten her reaction and perception to allow her to move and react at higher speeds. Without needing to go through specialized training, or having gear that would be needed to fly at such speeds safely. (Why I say “She is the ship.” That and the fic said the orbs make her a Space Ship. So it’d make sense for The Ship, to be able to handle itself at it’s full speed.).
All that training involves learning how to fly the plane, dealing with the various physical complications of going that fast, and following proper protocol whenever even approaching that speed. Sydney gets to skip all that and just press magic orbs to go real fast with an impervious shield that negates inertia, vertigo, and g-force.
Pilots are not trained to have reflexes faster than the speed of sound; That is both unessacry and completely impossible.
don’t forget that one of the reasons that Sydney didn’t notice that they were flying that FAST in the first place was that they were both flying in a relatively straight line from the press conference area out to the target range and it’s easily believable that Max kept talking or otherwise distracting Sydney, and speeding up herself to see if Sydney could keep up… so there was not really any NEED for quick reactions at all as would be needed in a serpentine- evasion course like now, therefore we never saw the difference between her ordinary human “walking down a street, and tripping” reaction times, and whether or not her reactions while flying are any quicker… let alone compared to her decidedly SLOW reaction times to the speed upgrade as shown here in panels two and three. Also, have you even been on a plane and looked out the windows… does it “LOOK” like you are traveling at about 550Mph (885 km/hr)?… NOPE, but you ARE… she just did the same, only a bit faster due to Super-Hero comic physics…
I reeeeally want to make run Forrest run jokes, or maybe read this again with the Speed Racer theme song playing in the background.
I also think it’s cool we now know for sure the Fly Ball acts as its own G-force suit too. Or mebbe a combination of Fly Ball buffs and Shield buffs?
Either way, she doesn’t have to worry about liquefying her organs.
Has anyone refer them to the Three Stooges? Sydney did poke one of them in eye already, and seems that “Mo” is still trying to put out the fire that is it’s head. Btw I was thinking of the lava spitter as the “Larry”, and the stout one as “Curly”.
Curly: “Hey, Moe, I think you got something in your eye there. Nyuk nyuk nyuk.”
Moe: “SHUT THE FUCK UP YOU DICK! YOU HAVE ANY FUCKING IDEA HOW MUCH THIS STINGS?”
Larry: “What now boss?”
Moe: “Bert? Are you tracking that [untranslatable yet exceedingly offensive squalien curse] GNAT?”
Bert [on ship]: “Yeah boss, It’s heading out to sea at over 37 blerms per ghed.”
Moe: “GLASS EVERYTHING IN FRONT OF IT. That fucker killed Shemp.”
NOOooooo not Shemp!
You know what’s playing in my head right now?
This is
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g7bxgqASreE
Wonder if anyone else is experiencing this.
The monsters probably don’t have a maximum range, per se, but it looks like they might need line-of-sight to make their attacks. At least accurately. If this were happening on Earth, according to Wikipedia, the approximate formula to use is d = 3.570(sqrt)h, with h in meters and the distance given in kilometers. The monsters seem around 100 meters-ish tall, or somewhere around that order of magnitude. If we overestimate an order of magnitude at 1000 meters (one km), then their horizon would be about 113 km away. At the stated speed of Mach 16 (5.488 km/s), and if Sydney were going in a straight line, (which she’s obviously not), they’d only be able to track her for about 21 seconds before she was over the horizon, since her altitude is near zero. At a more reasonable 100 meters, the horizon is at only about 36 km away, which would put Sydney over the horizon at a brisk 6.6 seconds.
Of course, when you’re dodging Lovecraftian monsters lobbing thermonuclear sparkly lava explosions, that’s gonna be a long seven seconds.
You know, going by how the level of destruction keeps escalating by the Squidettes, I find myself wondering if there will be a planet there at all when Max and company finally get back there.
So her speed levels are by powers of two from previous number? Or did it went from 2^2 to 2^(2^2)? Or did it go from 2^2 to (2^2)^2? By that logic her next upgrade could go from mach 16 to:
2^(4^2) = 2^16 = mach 65536 (= 2^2^2^2) (mach 874030 is speed of light)
or
(4^2)^2 = mach 256 (most probable)
She has maxed out this subsection, which unlocked another. Right now, she has awesome atmospheric flight capabilities, but the next upgrades could be something else. Such as an extra-atmospheric speed upgrade to make lunar distances practical. We won’t know for sure until she buys it and tests it…
Ludricrous speed, GO!
Heheheehehehh!
As long as she doesn’t go Plaid and over shoot by two weeks she should be good.
Ahh this edition makes me think of missile command!
What? 150 comments in and no Spaceballs reference? Sheesh. Fine, I say it…
Ludicrous speed, GO!
Oh my gosh! I can’t believe I missed saying that! Now, the question is, will she slow down, or try and stop suddenly? I can imagine what will happen to her if she stops suddenly with all of that energy built up behind her.
ESPECIALLY since the orbs are circling her head. They should be having criss-cross colors behind her instead of just straight lines. Then she can clearly have “gone to plaid”. However, it’s probably a pain for Dave to draw/render.
IIRC there was one that showed the orbs making a spiral pattern after her.
Dabber: “It’s not like she’s going to try and fight that thing.”
No… she’s going to fight FIVE of them. AND WIN!
I think we’re all missing the potential for the orbs. If Sydney can surpass Max with only half the pips in an orb’s ‘main line’ filled in…what would the balls look like with all of them filled in? Could the blaster ball crack planets at full power?
…Maybe Sydney is a space ship, but a mining ship specifically!
the things that made the orbs are god tier being with access to base “machine code” level control over the universe. there’s even a good change they’re the being that made the supers in the first place, including the “geode” that gave max her powers.
so its understandable why Sydney is more powerful then max as she is basically a god in training.
…And as long as that thought doesn’t take any serious root in Sydney’s mind, the universe still exists…
0.o
Yeah, but once you have everything where do you put it?
At max level she can spend points to unlock the ultimate move, which is creating energy arms Zenyatta-style to hold extra obs with, each new point adding one more energy arm.
So, does this mean its time to update the power scale for Sydney? She is listed as Ultra at a 6. Or, are we waiting for the battle to end for more power-ups? Or, is this the number she is at after everything, since this is in the past? Inquiring minds want to know!!
‘You’ve never been lost until you’ve been lost at Mach 3.’ – Paul F. Crickmore – test pilot
Well its looks like arc had a new rapid deploy system.. Assming load dos’t effect max speed to much she can bubble buss the team up and over at mach 16 and be anyone in USA in no time flat She needs to be well above air traffic I assume getting a no fly zone around HQ would be a non issue just need to be carefull where she goes down.. one question is if shes going mach 16 and swaps fly for air ball for a few sec to clean up the air how much speed does she louse.
A slight reference for you here:
https://www.grc.nasa.gov/WWW/BGH/index.html
Nasa’s basic guide to Hypersonic speed.
The only manned vehicle that has gone even near Mach 7 (Mach 6.72 to be exact) that wasn’t an orbital reentry vehicle was the X-15. Sydney is going more than twice that speed.
Things moving that fast don’t even tend to bother with wings, and the heating of the atmosphere is more of a concern than what most people would think of as aerodynamics. Enough heat in fact to cause chemical reactions in the air around you.
This can only end well.
Just a song before I go,
To whom it may concern
Traveling twice the speed of sound
It’s easy to get burned.
If Sydney goes that speed in the lower atmosphere she may create a plasma cloud around her bubble that would block her wrist comm radio from working.
The story I heard about the mentioned X-15 flight was that the pilot was too busy with other tests to pay close attention to the Mach numbers. He later said that if he knew he was that close to Mach 7 he would have tried to push it to that speed. He also said that not trying may have saved his life. When he landed, the ground crew noticed the leading edges of the wings and tail had started to melt from air friction. The higher speed could have made them fail entirely and lose the aircraft.
Nasa just upped their game IRL – just about mach 10 – just about 7,000 MPH
https://www.nasa.gov/missions/research/x43-main.html
Wow! This looks incredible! You really feel her new super speed here! But she has the luck of the devil, because she can’t see these shots coming, (unless she’s now flying on her back – and even then, how fast can she react?) and yet she evades them like a pro! I guess she hasn’t been playing only RPGs! Wouldn’t surprise me if it turns out the orbs DO improve her reflexes, though.
Let’s hope she gets rescued soon though, because how long can she keep this up? She’s had a very stressful week, with usually not too much sleep, it was already evening by the time they confronted Sciona and since that time she has been ported to another planet, tried to fly to the moon, fight and kill hundreds of (hopefully unmanned!) drones, had a hard fight with Squidward, then was ambushed by the Three Stooges and now she’s the target of orbital nuclear bombardment! She’s probably running solely on adrenaline by now – realistically, she is bound to crash fairly soon, and she will probably need considerable time to get over it, which might take years in our time. Sydney’s tough and brave, and we know she survives this, but she’s not a battlehardened vet (yet, though she’s going to get there fast if she keeps this up), some PTS is to be expected, and DaveB tends to address such issues in a realistic way. I wonder how she will handle it?
