Grrl Power #529 – She is not getting her security deposit back
I don’t think immortality would make someone immune to boredom or impatience. You’s still have to sit through the same amount of intervening time, and regardless of what percentage of your lifespan that interval takes, assuming your brain functions at the same clock speed as a mortal, the fact that you might outlive your enemies doesn’t make your TV dinner defrost any faster.
Panel two is a bit odd for a few reasons. One, Dabbler is wearing a T-Shirt and not something that looks like a guy with long hair should be ripping it off of her on the cover of a lady smut novel, and two, they’re looking at math and not code. I guess this is the math the code generates? I hadn’t given it a ton of thought, but I guess Krona’s got to be pretty smart to do any of the things she does. Most coders probably trend above average intelligence, (at least in the analytical and arithmetical spectrums) but some get by repurposing and mashing other people’s code together for their own uses. Krona doesn’t have the luxury of being a script kiddie. She has to do everything from scratch. Some things don’t require any actual coding, though. Binary flags for instance are as difficult as just finding what she wants, almost like looking through a hex editor and replacing the 0 with a 1. Checkpoint code obviously requires more work.
Double res version will be posted over at Patreon. $1 and up, but feel free to contribute as much as you like.
Dialog for Panel 2: And it comes out here.
I didn’t see it at first because I’m dumb. Sydney is so tired that she’s faceplanting into the pillow. I dunno, is that how she usually sleeps?
You notice that her orb appears to be sleeping as well instead of floating. I thought that was a pretty interesting touch.
It’s been shown once before that her orbs go into a non-orbital, non-glowing sort of ‘standby’ mode when Sydney is asleep. Also when they are in the tube, at least going from her annoyance at trying to get them to exit it when first showing them to Archon.
At least she removed her glasses first this time :D
If she took her glasses off, I’m assuming she’s not in the Marty McFly sleeping position.
Face down? Yes
“And that’s how I form time-space into a klein bottle shape to create the time loop”
“Klein bottle? Ah, you mean the self-penetrating orifice! I approve!”

That sounds very much like something dabbler would say.

Unless magic outputs the maths in such a way you need a mirror to read it they’re looking at the maths the wrong way round.
I think it’s more like a magical whiteboard and we’re just seeing it from the back. notice that it’s ontop of both Dabbler and Krona.
KhazintheDark‘s point already implies that we are seeing the back (of the ‘magical whiteboard’), but even with it being transparent it is us who should be seeing the writing in reverse. As it is, Krona and Dabbler should be seeing the writing the wrong way round.
Dave does have glitches like this, in his art, from time to time. Usually an issue with left/right inversion, in some panels. So this is just a variation on that. And may have been deliberate as inverting it would take a huge amount of time.
However we can rationalise that the ‘magical whiteboard’ displays the text, and images, so it is readable from whatever angle you see it. Thereby it would have no ‘back’, even if people were standing around it, in a circle, they would all only see it from the ‘front’.
I like that theory Yorp. Certainly a useful tech. Damn I’d love TVs to be like that. Centre of the room. No matter which direction you look at it, you always have it at the right angle. :D Can you imagine the living room layouts that would create? Couches facing one another …so discutions can be face to face rather then sideways …and still be able to effectively watch TV when you need to.
And I love where you ran with that. I had been thinking of it as being good in meetings and presentations, but yours is even better as it would improve people’s lives. Especially as it would be drawing upon our ancestral roots, gathering around a camp-fire and seeing each other’s faces, when we hear the tales of the hunt and other events of importance.
This has affected our evolution, since fire was first harnessed, so I am sure that when such technology is perfected it will rapidly be taken up worldwide Improving the home environment, workplace and public meetings and presentations.
Even applying similar principles to live entertainment. No longer would the star need to be placed at one end of a stadium, so everyone could see the overhead screen showing them big enough for everyone to see. Instead they could be right in the middle and a huge close up of them could be seen performing above.
Lady (Godzilla) Gaga has now entered the building!
Ah, I would venture to say the ‘display’ of equations/sourcecode is one sided. Kind of like the Klein bottle, or a ‘Klein surface’. So there is no ‘front’ or back’ and that anyone that ‘sees’ it would interpret it the ‘right’ way around.

Or maybe, since magic is supposed to be the opposite of science, it actually IS backwards…
He he.
Although I think it is only satanic magic which is meant to be backwards. Don’t forget that the first scientists were alchemists, which many would class as being practitioners of magic. Science is just a branch of magic which has been shown to work well.
Of course they get all hoity toity about it nowadays and look down on practices like hypnosis. Yet they still have not found out how to turn lead into gold, without it being highly radioactive!
Well Leonardo wrote all his notes backwards to prevent busybodies snooping and stealing his ideas.
Optical Mirrors were still rare and VERY expensive back then.
Maybe he just wrote things down normally? He could have been an early experiment, by Sciona, but she put the brain in the wrong way round?
Or he might have swapped places with his mirror universe counterpart?
Perhaps inhabitants of the mirror universe perceive time in the opposite direction to ours? Which would explain why he had so many ideas ahead of his time. They were just memories!

Only seen a couple of comments on the last speech bubble. Can only recall two people having used bold before: dabbler’s demon friend and chorus. The latter seems more likely here?
Well demons are traditionally summoned. Plus Chorius was one of the people sitting at the leader’s table. Meaning that he was in just as much danger from the grenade attack.
Possibly Chorius may be tough enough to survive that, and have chosen to be attacked to ensure that he is not considered as a suspect traitor. But I am not seeing anything, other than a husky voice, which would point towards him. Whereas we know that the demon is one of Dabber’s enemies, so would very likely co-operate in a plot against Archon and their allies.
Of course, it may be a third individual who we have not encountered before. But, if it is the demon speaking, then clearly he is not the one being summoned, this time. So then the question becomes that if Sciona already has an elder vampire and a big demon as allies, just what is she summoning now?
Judging by the size of the circle, I think Sciona has chosen New York for a reason. As King Kong and Godzilla have demonstrated, it is the city for giant monsters to hang out in!
It was more the immortality that made me think it might be chorius (ugh autocorrect). The demon seems more likely to be the immortal one of the two?
That is a good line. Bear in mind though that Chorius is just an alien (I think, I cannot remember for sure). Which is what Dabbler is too. Whilst she is hundreds of years old, it has not been implied that she is immortal.
Of course she may well be, despite that omission. Even if only through the use of advanced technomagic, to medically extend life indefinitely. With the inference that her rival demon would be too. In which case your argument would be flawless.
I’m seeing a lot of 4th dimension analysis in panel 2.
I see a Klein bottle in the second panel! :-D
Small details check. Final panel, top right corner, there are a few boxes. Which appear to have transparent sections. They are big enough that they could be holding people.
Blood donors? Sacrifices? Vessels to be possessed?
Those are short walls to hide behind when the shooting starts. Building code requires them for all villain lairs.
This looks like duct-work for a HCAV system. I initially thought that they might be on a rooftop due to that but I don’t know may places that have huge flagstone patios on their roofs.
The way Sciona’s day is going so far, she might be on a roof and just before she finishes the diagram it starts raining and smears it all.
At least so far, Sciona’s degree of planning implies if her ritual does need to be exposed to the sky, she’d have a function-tent over it to keep the elements (and pesky satellite photos) off it until it’s finished.
In the second panel …I guess it is Dave’s Rendition of a Hyperloop? I think its what it is … Some weird mathematical thingy in relation to the four dimensions of Spacetime … I’d really have to look back at my sources… but that kinda feels like what it might be.
Ack. I got my things mixed up :o I completely forgot what the term is actually. :/
The real joke here is that the dialog in the final panel has nothing to do with the circle she’s painting…. that’s just for ordering pizza from the the layer of hell for gluttony. It’s sinfully good pizza… worth risking eternal damnation. :P
:-)
I dunno though, the dialogue fits quite well, if you realise their slogan.
Well as for Krona coding it would be easiest for her to build a coding language and make it object orientated to speed up what she does something similar to C++. Once she has this she would be able to code at a much faster rate as long as she doesn’t have to worry about memory management it would be rather quick for her to call methods she has already created and run them through a program.
That’s how it works you you build off of what you already have and build a bunch of methods that preform the heavy lifting task for you so you don’t have to recreate them each time. So for math you only have to call the math method and then you can do math in your code. No not that Math. :P
The whole time loop wouldn’t require more than thirty of forty lines of code to setup for the team. Time loop would be the method and she would be adding the variables to it so she can make changes to it on the fly. The problem more than likely occurred in the method for time loop when it had bodies outside of the loop itself. That is just a rough guess from a coding stand point since that is the only major variable that was outside of the code.
The question here would clearly be the memory usage part. Exactly what, where, and how is this all being processed? Assuming you knew that, how would you compare your memory usage to what’s available as well? I mean, what ever allows this to even be a thing in the first place clearly has to stand out of the ordinary and would likely be as unknown as the origins or Sydney’s orbs so far.
I rather thought the memory usage created problems. Krona cannot tell how she was discovered, for example. Nor can she testify as to who assaulted her. And Harems memory is all…
“Did I just see that black cat walking by again?”
“The exact same cat, or a different one?”
“I’m not sure? It may have been pink.”
That’s not a Kline bottle…. That’s a vagoo of holding…
Sorry, Tom Siddell has won all technobabble forever.
