Grrl Power #51 – That’s gratitude for ya.
Even when not dealing with ‘villains’ Maxima doesn’t really put up with people who irritate her. It’s fair to say that she’s been described as bit of a bitch… usually not to her face though. I wanted to do a comic which showed that a little but it feels ham fisted to me since I’m used to writing lighthearted goofy stuff all the time. I mean, really, why would this guy come up and give the super powered amazon grief about how she saved his life (or at least foiled the robbery,) though he did have a gun pointed straight at him at one point, so maybe it’s just nerves. One challenge I have as a writer is remembering that not everyone is congenial all the time – it’s weird, I never watch a TV show with antagonist catalyzing a situation by doing something dumb and think what a hack writing job it is, cause logically, I know that people can be stupid dicks sometimes, but it feels 2 dimensional to me when I do it.
Edit: /me waves to all GWS visitors. I do a kind of different comic from Danielle, feel free to poke around a bit and hopefully a few of you enjoy it and stick around.
So Sydney gets a “Who’s Who” badge even though she’s not in the strip… Yet there have been numerous times when Joel has been in the strip and hasn’t gotten one? Blatant reverse sexism!
Well, she’s in the mini strip below so it seemed like I should include her.
Also her legs are behind the Ambulance
Otherwise known as plain ol’ sexism.
Well technically, she IS in this strip. Or at least her shoes are (First panel, behind the ambulance)
The mini strip is wrong, you can see her feet, so therefor she is in this comic :P
I know I’m roughly a year late for this conversation, but I have to say I have more sympathy for The Guy than I do for Maxima. Max may have decided to hold off as soon as she saw Sydney’s canister act strange, but as far as The Guy has any way of knowing, Max was standing around for shits and giggles. Taking Max’s assurance that the civilians were safe at face value, Max still allowed a bunch of people to fear for their lives when she could have stopped things at any time. Then she has the gall to threaten a stressed-out civilian for being angry at how she handled the situation. (All this is assuming that nothing went wrong, whether it be the gunman holding Sydney pulling the trigger by accident or–for all Maxima knows–the canister reacting to the danger Sydney’s in by shooting a nuclear blast the direction of the man holding her or something.)
Fair points. Max can get a little arrogant.
I’m just as late as you, so I hope you see this. Soldiers, firefighters, EMS, cops, can all developed a type of cynicism towards civilians. You even see this in special forces compared to basic groundpounders. When it’s just day to day for you, you forget that not everyone is used to (x stressful life threatening occurrence
) so while the guy reaming maxima out has totally justifiable reasoning, maxima acted exactly as I would expect her to act. She’s the next best thing to a demi god, a few firearms just don’t even register as a threat.
Hee hee. I think i like this character.
And I just realised she crushed the bullet between her fingers and that’s what got the made to run away, not simply cracking her knuckles by clenching her fist, which I can do so I know it can be done.
what’s with the snoutface
I love the little mini strips at the end of the comics :D.
Sydney is in the comic her feet are behind the Ambulance.
love maxima’s face at the end.
So I know I’m, well, 13 years late… but I just realised. The MGS reference, specifically the art of Sydney… was that an homage to Egoraptor’s “Awesome” series?
