Grrl Power #48 – The My Little Pony Ringtone Escape Gambit
Way to get that validation there Sydney. I like Max’s subtle method of saying, “Hey, don’t run off, we need to have a little chat.”
BTW I’ve added a Google +1 button and reconfigured the other sharing stuff. Help me test them out with lots of clicks. :D
lawl.
the comedy just begins…
first
Looking forward to the origin story of Sydneys power artifacts.

Ditto.
Bwahaha!

BWAHAHAHAHAH!!!
Wow, totally not expecting that.
I guess someone wants to know if the money was paid into the bank.
Max confirms that what she saw in the bank wasn’t random, and sydneys face goes into shock. I’m not sure who’s more surprised in that last panel.
Speaking of which, I wonder if this puts maxima on sydney’s list.
David, I now present to you, one internet. Use it wisely.
ok,, am not sure what to make of the last few panels,,,i mean,,, it kinda look like max wasnt expecting this to happen,, she look just as surprised as sidney,,,it look more like she saw the tube moving and just tought,, hey stay there you,, she’ll come back
Well she’s a little surprised it “rubber banded” her that hard, plus that 3/4 rear view is kind of challenging to draw, I wasn’t sure what expression to put on her face and that was the first thing that came out when penciling it.
Max probably wasn’t expecting that exact result, but I’m sure she at the very least expected after seeing the tube roll around the bank, not to mention Syd’s reaction to her noticing. Max is an observant one. =)
now imagine if sidney tried to go water-skiing or tubing and sombody did that..
Epic yoink.
Also, nothing kills your street cred like a ‘My little pony’ ringtone.
Except for now a days… when Bronies run rampant.
They should be herded into isolated areas where they can frolic in peace Bronies that is.
I’m old. What the heck is a bronie?
An adult fan of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. The word comes from “bro” and “pony”. The term can actually refer to adult female fans as well as male, but more typically refers to males because there seem to be a lot more of them.
That is so wrong.
Eh, I don’t know. I can see the appeal. Mind you, when I watched the pilot episodes, it felt much the same as drinking maple syrup (almost nauseatingly thick and sweet), so it’s definitely not my thing.
There’s nothing wrong about being a brony. The show sounds really weird and girly until you watch it. By episode 4, you’re pretty much hooked.
It really is a good show, so watch a few episodes before you criticize it.
Plus, there’s a bit of adult humor put in here and there, as the writers have acknowledged the adult male following.
It’s just overall a good show. You need to watch at least four or five episodes before you judge.
I never said there was anything wrong with being a fan. In fact, I specifically wrote that I can see the appeal. It just doesn’t appeal to me.
Eww no. And not because I find it “girly”. More like being force-fed candy I don’t like till I puke. I can’t watch any show that cutsey or everything’s perfect. Give me a little darkness please if only to save my eyesight.
the disturbing part is at first look it -appears- sweet, but the more you get in to it you -FIND- that little candy coated darkness lurking at the center… It’s like opening a bag of jelly beans and they are all like watermelon and strawberry till you get to that one at the bottom and it’s ear wax flavoured.
Well, even the darkness-parts are rather excessively cute. ;)
Cute doesn’t bother me, since I’m a lady and all. My big problem is how in-your-face blatant it is with its morality tales of ‘the power of friendship’ and all that. It’s right in the title, and that’s just the tip of the iceberg. It’s not the least bit subtle, which is what I meant above when I wrote that it’s as thick as drinking maple syrup.
Again not my taste in fact I prefer the black jellybeans overall. And I’m not alone because black jellybeans are the only ones that actually come in bags of only one flavor at Easter.
But it’s SO right.
*Snort*
*rofl*
lol, the my little pony ringtone, kills any coolness you got, and then a magic tube caused faceplant will kill the rest, rofl
Based on that don’t open that thing! Sydney’s head will unscrew with it.
pop top?
Holy crap thats awsome dude you need to publish more than once a week its killing me waiting!
o_O
yoing and blarg work so well together in that last panel
Having a quirky ringtone supports being a quirky lady. It’s not as much ‘street cred’ as it is ‘chaos cred,’
and I can think of nothing more intimidating then a completely unpredictable style!
I love this comic, but the navigation buttons at the top don’t work.
What browser are you using?
It’s less that the buttons don’t work and more that the link is tied only to the text below them and not the icons themselves, so if you click on the icon nothing happens, since that part isn’t linked.
Apparently DaveB has fixed it in the past hour-or-so, because the icons work for me.
Doesn’t seem like anything’s changed from this end. It isn’t a terrible bother, though, to remember to click the text instead of the icon.
Firefox works much better with less security issues.
Sounds like an IE issue (surprise), but it’s working correctly for me when I test it in IE9 and in IE compatibility mode.
YAY for Pony :D
I just thought of something. If a girl is a serious tomboy, and she likes MLP… does that make her a bronie?
Nah, just means she is still connected with her femininity… girls are girls, and MLP:FiM is a Utopian Bee Hive Society, (google it) so she may want to leave it at that…
Yes.
Ha! Opposite responses seconds away from each other…Except mine sounds a lot less fancy.
Flame war? jk
*Passes Krame and Z2 toy flamethrowers* Fight!
Why toy flamethrowers…when real ones are perfectly legal? :D :D
Collateral damage?
Check your history real flamethrowers were almost as dangerous to the operator as the target. A stiff breeze at the wrong time and operator BBQ. Not to mention the original ones were notorious for leaks and ruptured fuel lines.
That and IIRC there were incidents where the flame went up the fuel line and ignited the tanks on the operator’s back.
Exactly, not sure if they ever solved all the problems with them yet. The blowback problem will probably never have a practical solution. Far more likely lasers and railguns will be made man-portable.
Maxima’s face is priceless in both frames 4 and 8. Also, is Sydney’s phone affected by the leash as well? It would bring “connectivity” to a whole new level!
(plus it would be really hard to steal) :D
heh still getting used to which smileys work where….
I wish I could turn those off. I’m old school that way. I like my emoticons unparsed.
you mean like this? XD
Bwahahahahahah!
That. Is. AWESOME.
Just finished your archive last night – definitely ranking high now among my favorite comics!
I am, as many here I’m sure, totally in awe of Sydney’s/your Grand Master level insult talent. I hope you don’t mind that I’ve already memorized a few of those – and I’ve even already used “ecumenically vague” and then ended the argument by escaping during the ensuing confusion.
;)
BTW, don’t know if you care or not, but I came here by way of your ads on TopWebComics.
Thanks! Glad you like it. Good to know those advertising dollars are doing some good. Saw my TWC rank jump a bit this month, which is a nice feeling even if it’s mostly for bragging rights.
that and apparently allows you to claim higher bids for advertising space on your own webpage…
Well that’s just hits. An advertiser doesn’t care where you rank on a search engine or a webcomic aggregator, they just want eyes on their banner. Of course those things tend to help with traffic, but hits is ultimately all that matters. I’m just trying to get the word out at this point. Of course I’ll eventually put up some (non irritating) banners eventually. It’ll take me a long time to recoup what I’ve already spent in pimpage though.
Just finished reading the archives…
*puts comic on bookmarks*
There we go.
God damn… The look on Maxima’s face just before she starts laughing… Perhaps one of the best faces I’ve seen in any comic. That alone triggered a fit of laughter.
Thanks, that was a really hard one to figure out. If I need an art reference for Maxima, I open up a mainstream superhero comic, the problem is, since I do part mainsteam style art and part goofy manga art, drawing Maxima with a goofy expression is sometimes a real challenge. Sometimes I have to think of what Sydney’s expression would be if she was in that position, then scale it back a bit for Max.
I so love the expression of Max in the 4th panel xD
It’s so… ‘What the… snrrrk bwahahah’ xD
Love your comic! Go on like that I’m already far enough to wait impatiently for every monday xD
Don’t worry, Sydney. Everybody knows, the ponies are gansta.
Next comic does Max yank hard on the tube, sending Syd flying through the air to land next to her?
That would just be awesomeness lol would love to see that.
Oh my god! The “My little pony” meme has gotten to this part of the internet too!
I hope Syd is protected by something when she gets yanked back like that. Sooner or later she is going to be in one vehicle going that way and the tube will be in another going this way, in which case you get:
A) Stopped/ damaged vehicles (funniest result)
B) Damaged Sydney (most realistic (?!?) physical result, but maybe not so funny)
C) Damaged mystery object (unlikely as it would not be funny unless it started to malfunction)
D) Broken or stretched freaky bond between Syd and item (could be fun but more likely you would get:)
E) Mystery item teleports to Sydney (which could be quite funny on it’s own in certain circumstances)
I’m kinda curious to see which result or combination of results would occur. I’m also kinda wondering if Sydney’s mystery item is a ‘stand alone’ or is part of a set that can be used by the same person all at once.
Keep up the good work and I know I will still be here reading when we all find out.
I’m just looking forward to seeing Sydney’s expression if her ‘leashing’ is ever used to suspend one object beneath another: pinned to either the floor or the ceiling, and probably with enough inventive invective to keep everything in the air!
The expression on Maxima’s face in the last panel reminds me of the Trolldad comics for some reason.
This ought to be good.
“Oh hey so I JUST realized I forgot my poster tube, silly me, I’ll just grab it real quick and be off… no?”
I like how interacting with Sydney seems to bring out Maxima’s non-standard facial expressions. (Well, not that we’ve seen much of her yet, but she strikes me as the serious, controlled type.)
Panel 4 was especially well done; I hardly ever see that face in comics…
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!! Drakcmas, I am glad I was laying down before I read that! That made me laugh for ten full minutes!
Called the ‘Yoink!’
It seems that the connexion between Sydney and the heretofore unseen artifacts is a two way street.
Well, we did see a less dramatic version when she left them in the car and tried to go into the bank. Can’t remember the strip number, sorry.
This one.
And now the parking lot security cam has two funny scenes to auto-upload when it gets smart enough…
She should have picked up the tube before skittering off.
Seeing how Sydney has behaved before she needs to be composed to remember doing that.
Not rampaging around with a level of embarrassment that rivals the mines of Moria for it’s depths.
I read the ‘skitter’ sound as the tube trying to follow her, actually (reasonably appropriate sound effect for a hard plastic tube being dragged across concrete)
Nitpick.
The right side door that is on the ambulance in the last comic has vanished in this one :p
Might not be the same one. That might be the one that’s dealing with the walking wounded like those exposed to Sydney’s barf.
Have just read throught the comic and must say: ROFL ! LOL ! for real
Thanks! Glad you like it.
Btw. Maxima’s face in panel four. now my gravatar.
If I had to guess, I’d say that the mystic contract that came with her artifacts of power has a cosmic leash clause somewhere in their to prevent their theft.
I am thinking it is more than likely the opposite – that they don’t get left behind or “lost” by their newest “friend”.
It’s rare when a web comic makes me burst out loud in an uncontrollable fit of laughter, but the last panel succeeded in glorious spades. Christ, I’m still wiping the tears from my eyes as I type this.
Well played, Dave, well played.
I’m betting the artifacts are ancient marbles. Why else would it roll.
can’t be, remember in the bank? when it was rolling towards her there was clattering, like as the tube rolled it dropped onto a new side like a cube or other sided shape.
I think we can get ready for another round of Sydney’s verbal language abuse. :)
