Grrl Power #451 – Vampire 201
Sydney’s a real social butterfly isn’t she? As I mentioned earlier she’s not going to meet with everyone in the room before we get on with it. In fact these are the last two before we segue into something resembling a plot. :)
Vamp “level” depends more on the frequency and quality of feeding than time served. It could be between 85 and 120 years, and those are at the extremes. I like the White Wolf system of generations, and even started writing something similar on this page, but combining it with the idea that every 100 years of feeding effectively moves a vamp up a generation to the next power level. A vamp could effectively become lower than gen 1 in this method, but of course, the earliest gen vamps would have had that many more centuries to feed so it would be impossible to catch up, unless vamps do that long sleep thing like you see in Underworld or White Wolf. But while I was writing all this I realized it doesn’t quite jive with how vamps work in my world, so I dropped the generation thing. I don’t want to bog the comic down right now with a vampire players handbook right now, so I’ll parcel out relevant information as needed.
Crimson is definitely simplifying it for Sydney’s sake. Very few vampires think of their age in terms of level, but most are quick to tell you how many centuries they’ve been around, especially the older they get. Well, up to a point. The ones that know they’ve got a few centuries on everyone in the room are just as likely to be circumspect. By the way as far as the affairs of the council goes, Ingsol’s 7 centuries is pretty respectable. There are older ones knocking around, but either they’re not as political or as charismatic as him.
I didn’t plan for Sydney to be sitting under the banner with the halo on it, I had just cropped a background from a previous page and it worked out that way. Double halo, man.
Scarlett’s corset was inspired by… well, no I just copied this design since I thought it was pretty cool looking. Actually most of the corsets on that site are pretty cool. I’m glad that guys’ clothes are mostly designed for function and comfort – well, not dress shirts in my experience – but occasionally I do get a little jealous that women have about a million more fashion options than guys. You know when you walk in to a department store and there’s two whole stories of women’s kit, and then one quarter of one floor next to the kitchen gear is all the men’s stuff. And like half of that is shoes and underwear. It’s especially bad when I see stuff like this. I’m not sure if I was a girl if I’d walk around in something like that, but I’m sure it’d be nice to have the option. That is if I was a size two, cause those look really small. BTW I have no affiliation with that site, I was just googling corsets for ideas and stumbled across them, and honestly $30 – $60 bucks seems really cheap for a corset. Not that I’m an expert on corset economics, but I know a girl can easily spend $60 on a bra, so I’d expect a well made corset to clock in at or even start around $200, but who knows. (I’m sure plenty of people know and will share their corset stories in the comments. :)
Double res version will be posted over at Patreon as soon as I get up. $1 and up, but feel free to contribute as much as you like :)
Here’s the link to the new comments highlighter for chrome, and the GitHub link which you can use to install on FireFox via Greasem
Hey, Dave. This may be completely irrelevant but just wanted to share. In panel 3, if you drop the hyphen from ‘co-related’ and replace it with an ‘r’ you get a real word, correlated, which means the same thing.
Sorry. I’ll go hide in my corner again. Love the comic!!
Aha, I see that if I turn to Norway and Scotland, I can improve the quality of my penguin army’s officer corps!
Yup you get to p-p-p-p-pick up a penguin. Additionally you may get a pack of walkers as well for the road.
Personally I’m surprised that Sydney has only met three groups so far i was half expecting her to meet 7 or 8 groups in about 6 seconds like i do….
Is there a tinker gnome, or dwarf faction?
Panels 1 & 2, far right banner, on the bottom row.
That is probably the Masons. I swear, every time someone sets up a secret society to rule the world they want to be a part of it.
It may be specifically an Easter Egg to the Stonecutters society from the Simpsons.

I happen to know a Crimson.
I wonder if there will be an uptick if color named children as the Rooster Teeth RWBY fans start having kids… well the ones that aren’t already adults with kids on the way.
I wonder if the parents were City of Heroes fans?
Or fans of Tommy James ☺

Was trying to find another version of that, was positive Cradle of Filth did a cover (or maybe thinking of a different song they covered)
Oops! Was actually thinking of Type-O Negative and “Summer Breeze” :(
Pika! Pika pika chu!!
Actually I was one of the beta testers for city of heroes and City of villains as well.
We probably fought side-by-side, at some point, then. I had an undead mastermind,* in the latter. I got up to something like 36th level, before they were all slated to be deleted, by it going live. I remember, on the last night, when developers were making appearances, in the form of the apex super-heroes, that one popped up near to me.
It was really funny, getting him on the run, due to responding so fast, and instantly backing up my attacking minions.
Mind you, the fact that a couple of hundred other villains were closing in fast, might also have had something to do with it!
* Oddly enough, although I had every other kind of master mind going, I never did go undead again. The nearest I had was a robot/dark miasma combination. That made for an incredibly powerful battlegroup. Not to mention requiring a really interesting backstory, as those two power sets would not go naturally together otherwise.
Found the perfect song for the Vampire and Werewolf Social Dance: Dancing in the Moonlight ☺
Speaking of Type-O Negative: Wolf Moon ☺☻
You know. The talk about gaming stuff makes me wonder if some younger supers got into gaming as a slight cover. In my own setting supernaturals that aren’t lucky enough to live in neighborhoods that are primarily in the new will carry around RPG books and if some looks at them funny for talking about their daily lives they can just point to it as talking about a game.
Which could get funny:
“Wait. You had a game session about doing science homework?”
“Yeah. Well. My sidhe is a high school student!”
Yeahhhhh, their largest size would fit a 34 C. I could wear one of those on my thigh. Maybe. And I got slender thighs…
Generally you aren’t buying an actual corset with pieces like this, just a cute costume piece shaped like one. Be sure to read the sizing chart and remember that in China where most of these are coming from they imagine that no one is the size of an American. Should you want a real corset they start around $150 and go up from there… I recommend Scarlett’s Corsets here in Dallas or Castle Corsetry out in California.
Don’t forget Dark Garden if you are listing quality California corset makers!
And yes, at $50, materials are going to be poor quality, and more importantly, the boning is all going to be plastic, which will deform over time.
The stupid thing is that steel boning isn’t that much more expensive than the plastic stuff, but I’ve never seen a corset under $100 with steel boning, and you can’t count on it under $200.
Workmanship would be my guess as to the higher cost because steel boning without proper stitch reinforcement will rip out of the garment.
And yes, Dark Garden are some amazing corsets. And all three manufacturer’s products are remarkably comfortable to wear!

Now I’m adding to my reading list Giant girl and liking it a little more than my usual webcomic fare.
Well played, Sabrina. Well played.
You should get Sydney to ask if the lead singer from Mungo Jerry was a werewolf ☺
I thought Mungojerrie (& Rumpleteezer) were were-cats?

Close enough :P
That gives me an urge to write a rival musical, “Dogs”!
All I need to do is find a musically talented collaborator, to handle all the non-plot and lyrics side of things.
*curls up, on rug, in front of fire-place*
Lets hope I dream of good music, to go with this. Trees, mailmen’s legs, juicy bones, walkies, squeaky toys…. zzzzzz.
*leg twitches*
Maybe Björn Ulvaeus with the musical chess, he is still active.
I did like One Night In Bangkock.
Pro tip: if a pretty-looking girl insists she is a ‘real girl’ you may not want to take her at face value.
If they state that in the initial introductions, then either they are not, or they are simply tired of being assumed they are not (same goes if you are in Brazil :p)
Instead of you being down in Brazil for a bit, you may find a bit of Brazil up in you :D
I know all about the painful gulf in options for women as compared to men in terms of fashion. (That sentence is a mouthful.) In other words I feel it’s often unfair how women have so many more options for fashion than men have.
Sometimes I wanna dress like I’m an anime supervillain, with huge popped collars, flowing capes, and straps and zippers everywhere. Women get to choose from dresses, to pantsuits, to short skirts, to leggings. I want more options for men!
I’ve been known to drop $500 to $600 on bow ties, shirts, top hats, blazers, pocket squares, slacks, etc. I finally have a wardrobe I’m starting to feel good about: https://imgur.com/mtQEfoK
I feel I should point out that the reason I’m not smiling in this picture is because someone threatened to murder me less than a half an hour before the picture was taken, and I was pissed off the police didn’t take me seriously. (And earlier that week I got jumped by 2 other people.)
Hey Dave! If you need tips on men’s fashion, if you want to shop for yourself or look for some inspirations for your art, do hit me up! I’d be happy to send you my contact info O:-)
Going for a Mr Steed look?
And except for the pantsuits, most of those don’t have pockets. (Well, some dresses do, but other than that…) I know women who would kill for some real pockets instead of those fake pockets that are so tiny and/or so flat, that you can’t even keep your car keys in them, much less a cellular phone.
Jenny Breeden points this out quite spectacularly here: https://thedevilspanties.com/archives/11449
P.S., in regard to the straps and zippers thing… don’t go overboard. As Abel (one of the characters in Dan and Mab’s Furry Adventures, who went through an Emo Goth phase) points out, “Just try undoing 18 belts when you need to use the toilet.”
That no-pockets thing happens to men, too. Seriously, WHY THE HELL WOULD ANYONE MAKE A FLAP FOR A POCKET ON A BLAZER, BUT NOT COMMIT TO MAKING THE POCKET!?
Wearing my coattails is especially frustrating, because then I need to stack my keys and wallet inside my slacks, making this huge bulge in my pants like I stuffed them for a fancy five finger discount. (I’m now seriously considering making a pocket inside my top hats.)
My girlfriend and I are betting that it’s just a conspiracy by mainstream fashion distributors to sell more handbags.
Women still have more options for clothing than men. A woman can wear men’s clothes and hardly anyone would bat an eye. But if a man attempts to wear women’s clothes, well… it’s a lot easier to do so nowadays, but I did get a couple dirty looks when I went out in this fabulous short grey dress and wig this one night ^3^
Are you sure there’s no pocket? Most jackets I have purchased have the pockets sewn shut for reasons, but you can easily undo the stitching and open up the pocket.
The guy at the store said the main reason was to keep the material flat, if you put a lot of stuff in them or put your hands in them the material can get stretched out.
I have have seen and handled blazers that don’t have pockets, just flaps, and in fact I have a vest with said flaps, but no pockets. I actually wore the coattails and white vest when I dressed as The Penguin for the Suicide Squad movie, but had to stuff everything I was carrying into my front pockets.
You could do worse than taking fashion advice from DEFAULT. She puts surprising thought into non-human fashion. Especially when breathing is not a must!
DMFA,not default.
Damn autocorrect.
As someone who fits better into women’s trousers than mens, I was appalled to discover I couldn’t even keep my wallet in them, let alone my pen, phone, tablet, bottle opener, keys and hands. I swear it’s a conspiracy designed to sell more handbags.
I agree. Definitely a conspiracy to sell more handbags.
Just add the monocle and cigarette holder and you could go for the Penguin look.
I actually do have a purple top hat I’m gonna wear to see The Suicide Squad. I’m going to swing by the Party Store and the Halloween store to see if I can find a monocle ^_O;
You might have some luck finding a monocle at an antique store, although it’s hit or miss. I was able to find a pair of wire-rim spectacles when I needed them. On a separate note, check out the Soulless series by Gail Carriger if you don’t already know it. It’s full of interesting fashion and ingenious ways to make clothing more functional.
Monocles need to be made-to-measure, or they will just keep falling out, or require undue squinting. So could take a lot of hunting to find a close match, if using pure chance.
It does not sound like money is an issue here, but it never hurts to know a good option. Not that I have been wearing glasses for a few years, but when I do buy them, I go to a ready-to-wear shop. You just hand over your prescription (they cannot do eye-tests themselves) or try on pairs, off-the-rack.
They are all arranged by optical strength, so the assistant just keeps going down the rack, until they find a match that gives you good vision. Then swapping them over, with the nearest alternatives, until you get the best results. Finally you simply pick the style you like, in that strength. There will usually be several. No further delay, just pay and go.
The best part is the price LV12 ($6.93, £5.26). The weakness is that it only works if both your eyes need a similar prescription. As with most folks, mine should require slightly different lenses, in each. But the difference is marginal enough that this is a good option for me.
I guess that folks, who have significant differences, would need to buy two pairs, and have the relevant lens swapped over, to make one good pair. But, at the kind of price above, that really isn’t a big problem!
But, getting back to the point, I wonder if there might be something similar for monocles? It automatically has the advantage, over the above, that you are only trying to match the one eye.
The disadvantage is getting the frame to fit the eye orbit properly (the bony part of the face surrounding the eye). However that could be handled by having two racks. One for the lenses and one for the monocle frame. Just making sure that they are all interchangeable.
If this does not exist, it is a niche business opportunity, for someone! Monocles were traditionally associated with aristocrats, because they were so expensive. This could actually open up popular demand. Amongst more daringly stylish individuals.
Good stuff to know! But…
On one hand, I’m a man of fashion. On the other hand, I’m pragmatic. I have 20/10 vision, and the only reason I ended up getting a prescription for glasses is because my former boss tried to fire me for wearing sunglasses indoors. (She was actually trying to fire me because I vexed her and her superiors, and called them out on their bullshit.)
However, it is good to know that it would be best to be fitted for a monocle. I doubt any mainstream eye-wear places do monocles, but if it’s really as cheap as 7 bucks, then it’s worth looking into.
I did get a tip from my stylist that old downtown Vegas has lots of antique stores and hidden treasures. I’ll go treasure hunting and keep my peepers peeled, as local costume stores don’t carry monocles.
Hell, the lady at the Halloween store I stopped at yesterday said, “Oh yeah! We have goggles.” I had to explain what to here what the “mono” in “monocle” meant, and what a monocle was. She still insisted on showing me the goggles ಠ_ಠ
One more thing: I saw Suicide Squad… ugh. If you wanna hear Burgess Meredith give a brief review of that crap movie, check out my Snapchat at, you guessed it, “agrayphantom”.
Are you aware of Gentleman’s Emporium?

He probably models for them. :-)
I can see why you thought of that though, there is an elegant commonality.
Awww! ♡ Thanks Yorp! ^3^ That is actually a dream of mine, to do a little more modeling as a dandy.
Now I wanna dress you up in a frilly dog collar! XD
*wags tail fashionably*
OhmygoshohmygoshOHMYGOOOOOOSH! XD
Those are SO FANCY! But I have to say, I prefer to buy directly from men’s stores, as you tend to receive very fine service and tailoring. I hate buying clothing online.
Also, just wanting to point out here: no pockets on the cutaway jackets and coattails. I’m just sayin’.
I’m surprised Sydney isn’t bursting at the opportunity to ask to become a vampire! Immortal sexiness! Forever!!
SIGN ME UP NOW PLEASE THANKS!
Sydney might have some issues with the weakness to garlic. And she is already sensitive enough to sunlight.
See, I don’t think it’s that she wouldn’t be able to adjust to cutting out garlic, but that she’s a vegetarian, and would take issue with preying upon the blood of virgins… or more likely pigs (in this universe).
And the fact that she hates sunlight is a non-issue. Since she already hates it, she likely has defenses set up to avoid it. I already have all my windows covered, so I’d be perfect to become a vampire :)
She is not a pure vegetarian, she eats fish. So she needs to become a aquatic vampire. I guess they can turn into devilfish. Sydney can combine it with her aquapirate powers and sunlight is not an issue anymore.
I’m amused by the fact that on that page there are a good 6 or 8 of what to my eyes look to be exactly identical products, all with slightly different names and prices. But again, they could all easily have the same image.
“Black Vintage Gothic Corset Steampunk Clothing Armor Bustier With Shoulder Bolero Steel Boned Corset Plus Size Burlesque Costume” is but one of these clones, in the center top row, followed quickly the the next three product images. And then 8 more times after than throughout the page.
I was also a little amused by the term “training corset.” I’ve heard of a young girl’s bra being called a “training bra” (I have two sisters), but a corset, to me, seems to require just a little bit, um, more, if you get my drift.
To me, ‘training corset’ meant just that: training your body to get used to being squeezed so tightly
Remember, a corset goes around the waist, the bust is something separate, what Scarlett is wearing would be closer to a bustier than a true corset
I hadn’t considered that, but it might make sense. I’ve heard about the tortures those things inflict, and so some training might be in order. But, the images shown for ‘training corset’ are more bustier like, so now I am unsure.
Oh, Scarlett’s nickname is Scar, then? This is something else that took me forever to figure out. I was looking back through the last few pages for this vampire named Scar they mentioned in panel two as being about a century old.
*Heavy Sigh*
Can anyone out there spare a few IQ points, please?
I didn’t catch it immediately either. So you’re definitely not the only one who was wondering who this “Scar” was.
“Can anyone out there spare a few IQ points, please?”
I would, but I’m down to my last two functioning brain cells. I know they’re in there because I can hear their lonely cries for company calling out into the void between them.
:-/
Anybody know anything about body language? I was just noticing that in every panel of this page that she’s in, Crimson has her arms crossed . . . well, except for panel three, maybe. The same thing was true back when she was first introduced, too.
Maybe it’s a defensive posture – like she’s unhappy with something or someone? Maybe she’s upset because her boobs are too big and she’s subconsciously trying to cover them up? Maybe I’m letting my imagination run wild again?
I suspect it’s the last one . . .
Curiously, the link I put in there doesn’t seem to work. Oh, well.
https://www.grrlpowercomic.com/archives/2187
That’s because panels one, two and three have been copy-pasta’ed
Hey! You cut that out! What do you think you’re doing being factual when I’m trying to be Freudian! ☺
Oh dear, another slip in the wall.
Today I learned that waxing is not a cure for lycanthropy… ow.
But it can be useful in training, for use either against, or as, a lycanthrope. You can significantly improve your capability that way.
Waxing is a painfull but usualy not lethal weapon against hairy creatures like werewolves. However it should be used with caution if you are a furry kind of person as it is a weapon that may be turned against yourself.
Ahh, but not if you know how to ‘wax on, wax off’.
And that’s why you don’t really hear much about dogs taking up Karate, am I right?
;)
Yeah, they still struggle doing the Crane Kick :(
The “Postman Bite” they excel at, but tends to get them disqualified :(
My cat does Nut Stomp from High Shelf. It is super effective.
PLEASE tell me that I’m not the only one imagining Math clawing at walls somewhere going Utterly Mad at something he can FEEL but not see. particularly the succubus fights…..
Math is currently under orders to stare at porn until he goes numb.
I suspect that we will not see him for a while.
*sigh*
I need a bit more of a nap. I keep wanting to return to the great plant intelligence debate. But each time I try, I keep find myself inexorably drawn to scientist teasing. In a host of interesting, valid and different ways. Although being counter-productive. So I then have to start again. My will is too weak now though, being so drowsy… sleepy…. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.
Perhaps you should include plants in the debate. After all they should know about plant intelligence. If they don’t answer that means you haven’t asked the right plant.
I hope there are intelligent plants. Farscape was awesome.
I think it highly likely, ‘somewhere out there’. There are too many exoplanets, in ‘habitable zones’ for there not to be a variety of intelligent lifeforms. Animals might rule on Earth, but I doubt the rest of the galaxy will all end up that way. Plants (or plant-like lifeforms*), that develop some degree of manipulating their environment, will have an evolutionary advantage the more intelligent they are.
I really must make a point of responding to the thread, tonight, or tomorrow morning. Or I will be too busy, and will not get the chance. Which would be a shame, as the points are easily countered. The problem is to avoid going round in circles and to actually reach areas of agreement!
*muttering under breath*
Keep it productive. Must not tease.
* Low metabolism photosynthesising critters. Mobility would be an advantage, but not a necessity.
I wonder what the limitations of siring are. Like, do you need to be at a certain level or age-as-vampire to pull it off? Do you have to break a fang off in dat ass and then have to wait for it to grow back? Do you expend levels siring? Is Diablerie a thing?
Also yeah, I’d be down to wear some light leather armor if it could be made easy to move in. That would look boss af.
Scarlett is purdy… I think I may have a new potential waifu! :P
(What? I identify as “goth” (kinda), skin that pale is a turn-on for me!)
~JD
I now have a mental picture, of a bunch of goths, clustered together in some dingy basement venue. With Scarlet walking into the room.
“Ahh, the brightness, it burns us!” they all scream, looking up at her.
Meanwhile there is you, in a corner, with your tongue lolloping out!
Good taste mind. Personally it is that hair which catches my eye the most. But her whole image works well (as does Crimson’s).* But I think her bashful look, in panel two, is probably stealing a few hearts.
* Fair warning, for the future. I expect to get these two’s names mixed up, sooner or later. There are enough points of similarity (most importantly in the names and associations) that I have already had to correct myself several times. Sadly, whilst that process itself might itself improve people’s memory normally, that is not the case for me. Not as regards names, anyhow. My brain’s handling of those is really screwed up.
Wearing make-up to make themselves even paler than normal is a Goth ‘thing’ already so most Goths wouldn’t bat an eyelid at that…
But yeah, that red-to-blond look is pretty sweet too.
Also, I have better control of my tongue than that! I would totally ask her to dance! I could also see myself making an ‘Alabaster’ (for the skin tone) reference… (which might not work in my favour as well… Depends on her personality/sense of humour…)
~JD
((And NO, none of those words are spelled incorrectly! BRITISH English my friend! The -proper- English!))
You will find that there are more than a few of us here who spell stuff proper. ;-)
As for the skin, yea, that is very much part of the goth image. But so is dark clothing (and hair). Which is where I felt that Scarlet broke the mold. Having a very brightly coloured wardrobe and hair style.
Although I am sure that, like all groups, there will be exceptions, and goths who have colour in their clothes. I was just playing to the stereotypical image.
Actually, hair colour isn’t as stringent with Goths, being pale and wearing olde Victorian style clothing is
Have to be careful not to confuse ‘Goth’ with those whiney ‘Emo’ knobs that have infested the Underworld since the 90’s like diseased vermin!!
“Does anyone know why I’ve called this meeting today?” — Mastermind
And if you happen to be short and (relatively) thin, that “one corner of one floor, half of which is shoes and underwear” rapidly shrinks to one or two (usually empty) racks of stuff that that won’t drown you in fabric.
Seriously, if you’re under 5′ 9″ and 180 lbs, shopping for clothes will be a headache-of-blind-rage inducing experience. And unlike the XXXXL crowd, there are effectively no specialty stores to make things easier.
Depends on what country you are in, or how rich you are to go to ‘speciality stores’ (and why does it have to be a ‘speciality’ anyway? o_O), mum is a size 20 or 22, and the highest most places (brick, paper or electronic) go is 16 or 18
Well, what I meant is there’s no places equivalent to say “Men’s Big & Tall” for the people I described. I think there may be a tiny number scattered across the U.S., but most people aren’t going to drive hundreds (or thousands) of miles to find one–and then pay higher prices when they get there. Big & tall stores, on the other hand, are pretty much everywhere.
We short, scrawny people usually head down to JC Penney, Walmart, etc. and find one of two things:
1) Anything under a size “large” or “40 inch waste” is sold out. Which somehow never translates to the store actually ordering more to meet demand.
2) The selection of “small” or “medium” is there, but the physical size has actually grown from the last time we were went shopping (the nominal inch size remains the same, for some reason. Someone should really get these people a good tape measure.). Which means even the smallest size offered will still comfortably accommodate a small gorilla. Which occasionally drives us to buy kid’s XXXL’s, and thus skews the sales for that demographic.
Let’s not even get into what it takes to find a suit…
Notably, I’m 5’5″ and 150 lbs. That’s not even especially short. And even slightly pudgy, much as I hate to admit it. :)
So yeah, like I said, a headache-of-blind-rage inducing experience. And then people wonder why I hate shopping.
If you think that’s bad, try being really skinny and tall… I’m 6’4 and about 140lbs. They don’t even making pants that are 28/34s, much less decent looking ones. I usually find a 28 waist a bit too loose too.
189cm (roughly 6’3″), and I know EXACTLY what you mean! I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve tried on pants thinking they’d fit perfectly, only to find that they result in exposed ankles (not as much now that I’m older admittedly, but when I was in my mid-to-late teens… ugh!)
Yay! I’m not alone! For me though it’s less of a concern that they’re short and more they reveal exactly how much like a stick figure I look…
Forget exposed ankles (boots and slash or socks can cover that), it’s either having to wear a belt (that always pinches or digs in when you sit down) or have to push out your gut to prevent them from falling around your ankles (another pain is when you have you hands full and having to hunch over to keep them up)
Everyone believes “Dracula” to be the first ‘modern’ tale about vampires, but “Wuthering Heights” beats that tale by nearly half a century
something im highly tempted to buy
Wow, way to make B&E even easier
Mmm, I don’t see that? Whilst, superficially, it might look like a lock-picking set, if you run the clip, in actuality it is just a different way to have your own keys organised. Using the Swiss-army knife as an inspiration.
Do beware having a computer memory thingy on your key-ring though. I did that a few years ago. But realised that each time since, whenever I have passed through customs, at an airport, I failed to ensure that it is protected. So any data on it would potentially have been corrupted by their scanning.
Just had a cursory look (they wanted me to sign up to FarceBook) and the image seemed, to me, to show more of a lockpicking tool with different types of keys rather than you putting your keys into a folding key-holder (and the one about to go into the lock seemed to be made up of two parts)
Yea, I get the same prompt. However you can just dismiss it, and play the video. Not really that an exciting product though.
Sydney, if you start to feel thirsty again, be sure to avoid reflexively drinking from that goblet, near to you. You might not find the beverage to be to your taste!
And, even if it is red wine, you do not want to have a thirsty vampire sitting next to you!!
you know iv been thinking what if one of Sydney orbs is a pocket of sorts and all she needs to do is touch another object to store it?
Not a bad suggestion. I do not recall anyone postulating that before. A single object would have its limitations mind. Unless it allowed really big items, such as an RV* or a ship. If though, it allowed various items to be stored, like a portable hole or bag of holding, then it does allow her a lot more flexibility. Provided Halo can access the correct ones easily.
It would be like a super-sized utility belt. A few of the more bulky things which might be of use to Sydney:
• Air tanks and/or rebreather
• Food and water supplies (heavy on the spices)
• Comprehensive trauma care kit, complete with defibrillator
• Satellite phone (there must be an upper limit on how far the Pip Boy can stay in touch, given its size)
• Generator. Although solar and diesel are options, Halo could use a pedal-power type one, but modified to make best use of her tentacle. The PPO would probably be too energetic, but, if they could find a means of controlling and converting it, into electricity.
* Recreational Vehicle, for those of you who may not speak American.
You know that Halomobile we talked about a while ago? What if one orb actualy is a Halomobile? Just activate it and go for a ride.
On the other hand it would be fun if Deus built a Halomobile and got to be a smug troll about it.
That’s the flight orb, isn’t it?
Strictly speaking, yea, that is an essential part of it. But, during the journey to New York, they were also talking about, in future, taking along a sofa and other creature comforts, to make it a more comfortable ride. Plus we were making a lot of additional suggestions, this side of the 4th wall, such as having plants to refresh the air supply. Which, given the context, is what I took Ro Jaws to mean.
One long-running idea is that the orbs are actually a planetary exploration kit and possibly even incorporating a means of inter-stellar travel (as part of the Fly Ball’s skill branch). When I said ‘ship’ above, I was thinking of both surface vessels and space ships.
Perhaps Halo does not need to put anything in. Maybe it already has a vessel stored in it (of either type, given they were discovered at sea)? It need neither provide propulsion nor defence, as the other orbs already cover that. But a hull, life support, navigation, sensors and communications would all be good additions, to the orbs’ suite of powers.
The nicest part being that it would not require continual use of one of Sydney’s hands. Once it had been summoned, from Hammer Space, she could release that orb, freeing up her hand for other uses.
Sydney would probably explode if she found out she had her own FTL spaceship.
Something Tardis like that is bigger on the inside perhaps? But it should need the florb and the shorb to fly and protect it or it will be a bit too easy to use. That could have room for Yorps flying greenhouse for air and a lot of other usefull stuff too, like posters of a flexing Wolverine and a snackbar full of spicy food. It could be quite cosy.
Sydney would certainly be delighted to find this out. It would be her own Hammer Space!
Everyone talking on the first page of comments about a vampire maybe breaking a fang by trying to chomp Maxima made me think of something.
Has anyone else ever read the books of the late Charles L. Grant? Don’t be too quick to answer NO to that as he wrote under about a half dozen different pseudonyms. Under the name Lionel Fenn, he wrote a series of supernatural comedy books that are well worth reading if you can find them. There’s only five books in the series.
The first had his hero going up against an alien invasion, the second had him fighting the Invisible Man, the third had him battling a swamp monster, and the fifth had him save the world from a Cthulhu type monster. The fourth one though was the one with the vampire and it only had one fang. This was because he face-planted a stone wall however, not because he tried to bite the wrong person.
It’s been ages since I read those books. If I can find my copies, I think I’ll go and do it now! ♥
I’m hoping to meet Icon. The aegis seem cool.
The vampires in the Strain have four old ones, each the leader of each strain of vampire. They are the oldest and most powerful. Only a few of the infected get to keep their personality. Once you reach a certain maturity level you have super speed and a few other attributes the newly turned do not have. The one part I didn’t like was that if you kill the main vampire all it has infected turn to dust where ever they are. Oh and your lungs are used to construct the feeding tongue. So they only look human with makeup and hair pieces etc. Not romantic at all. Also silver never affected vampires in the real stories. That like Sun light only affected vampires starting with “Nosferatu” with the sunlight in 1920. And in the early stories. If you recall in “Dracula” he turns to mist as he is stabbed in the heart with a Bowie knife.
It was so ambiguous that a writer, Fred Saberhagen, wrote “Dracula” from Vlad’s point-of-view with he meeting and speaking with van Helsing after Dracula’s supposed death.
I had an idea for a short story of someone wanting to be a vampire and got his wish only his teeth fell out except for two long fangs, body hair but no longevity.
Sydney’s brain kicked back in to full gear with impressive speed and efficiency.
It usually does: Sydney is quite intelligent when she isn…SQUIRRELL!!!!!
Oh noes! The dreadful thought. Could the Evil Squirrel Overlord have infected Sydney with squirrel lycanthropy?
Heh, nice. Recovery has nothing to do with intelligence, though. Her worldview just got flipped all around, and she suffered a mild seizure from cuteness… I’m assuming this took place mere minutes after the aforementioned, not days. Between the nerdgasm and the neural shutdown, I’d think she’d be slurring and only partially aware, at best. Damn impressive.
Ooo. One question i always wanted too ask a vampire,. Do you bite spred malaria ?.
Forgot rabies and werevolfs
You are thinking of mosquitos
No reason why vampite bite also could spead malaria and other mosqito sicknes. They are after all bpth blood sucking creature.
VAMPIRE: “Dunno. The only ones who have ever survived, me feeding on them, have turned. Talking ’bout which, I am feeling thirsty!”
exactly vamp just a larger form of mosquito.
Fair enough. You chat with Crimson, about what diseases she transmits.
Meanwhile I will be asking Scarlet if she likes going to the movies, or theatre. Plus finding out if she is able to eat restaurant food and, if so, what is her favourite. And encouraging her to tell me about what she has been up to, for the last hundred years. Were the undead neutral in the World Wars, or did she see action?
Why do i gett the feling talking about mosquitos with vampire would hurt me ?.
Perhaps movie would be abetter idea
And how the Roaring Twenties compare to the noughties (before the crash).
female Sucubus, female vamps..alls with her “special” t.. ejem glamour
Only left a special skretch with math and vehemence saying.
“boobs..boobs everywhere.”
True it woud be a distracting place fore any pervert or tentacle-monster too be in.
And most humans if they where no pervert before they would bee that after cause of the sucumpus in the room.
personly i pitty any school teacher with a room ful of 18 year old female sucumpus. (Envy not pitty)
They must keep the incubi and the succubi in different schools (preferably on different planets) or absolutely chaos would be the result.
I wonder when the first McDonalds will open up in the Centauri Republic? Will their Ronald McDonald change his hairstyle?
Catching up after a month or two of evilness IRL…and I see KA-BUN…and nearly died laughing. :D And I like these two Vamps. They got a good deal of panache. :)
Hope you have managed to defeat and banish the evilness
Yea, I think “KA BUN” is going to remain a favourite of mine, for a long long time. Judging by the fact that I cannot resist laughing at it, every time I reread the panel. And we are not alone. Several others loved it too. And the vamp girls are most appealing too.
And at least one person believes that it is an abomination which should be killed with fire, the ashes hidden, and never spoken of again.
Seriously, it was crap.
Just because it rubs you up the wrong way, does not mean that other people are not allowed to enjoy it. Thankfully.
Clearly, as it has given a lot of enjoyment, to a number of people, there is merit to it. Even if you refuse to acknowledge that. As such, it would be more gracious for you to accept that you hold a minority opinion, rather than an absolute truth.
However, even though it is a minority opinion, that does not, necessarily, make you wrong. These are purely subjective opinions we each hold, after all. So you are free to voice them, as you wish. Just do not expect to change other people’s opinions on the matter.
Overly defining vampires and werewolves doesn’t retain their mystique as well as simply establishing their individual abilities and relative power, depicting them in action, then leaving the viewers to draw conclusions and fanwank over what it means.
The lack of consistent canon between texts doesn’t irritate me nearly as much as every author going on at goddamn expository length about them. Less is more!
