Grrl Power #43 – Kick ’em while they’re down. Or bite.
Sydney’s one of those punchy girls that gives guys a whap on the arm for being… well, guys I guess, but this is really the first time in her life that she’s been in a real position of having to defend herself against something more dire than a sexist joke. Obviously she is not a cool headed super agent – this is fear violence. Turns out she’s pretty good at it.
So yeah, maybe that wasn’t an appendectomy scar. The art has come a long way in 6 months if I do say so myself. I would have settled for it improving half as much with a commensurate increase in speed, but I’m not complaining.
Love, love, love this comic, I have been enjoying it for a little while now and although I am always whining that updates are never fast enough (at least in my head) I am glad that you make us all wait, it helps with patience, something obviously Sydney never learned, lol! Again, I love this comic. :)
Love it.Mean girl so funny.
Is there a vote spot for this comic?
You mean for voting for those online comic lists? Yeah I have some links on the front page down at the bottom (you can just click on the Grrl Power logo at the top of the page then scroll down). I need to figure out how to post that in the archives so that people can see it if they go in to comment.
Why is Maxima’s face green up top? Is that what she looks like when she blushes?
It can’t be a reflection from her hat because the green is too strong for bounce lighting.
No, it’s her hat. DaveB has said so up-thread.
I have to say, I caught this comic early and have been following almost closely enough to cause an accident. You Sir are a genius. Work at your own pace and give us your best. We’ll share this with friends and you’ll have some solid success.
I love that wee angry tart, I like my Indian food native spicy.
And yeah, these last few pages are Gems, combat isn’t easy to draw.
Thanks I’m glad you’re enjoying my ADD fueled daydreams turned webcomic.
I think the tiki-mask face in panel 2 is the funniest part of this page. :D
Is she punching him in the ear? That looks really really painful.
Yes, yes it is, partly because the air in the ear canal gets compressed and hits the eardrum HARD. It’s why *Boxing” someone ears is an effective (And potentially crippling) move.
It’s also why if you cup your hands and smack someone’s ears, you can permanently deafen them.
funny thing is I think I know Sydney.
this be some funny sheit
..Strangly Sydny reminds me of my neice when some bully on the play ground tryied to intimated her………she broke his arm and now the bully is a good boy. (hard to be a 5th. grade bully when a kendergardener beats you up)
When I was 5 my baby sister(3) and I were playing in the sandbox being watched by my father. A boy (7 or 8) came in and pushed my sister. From my fathers P.O.V I had screamed some sort of battle cry and rammed the boy in the nuts with my head. The boys father was pissed, but only stormed off.
lol!!! sounds like we might be relaited …..I wonder if syd’s a fourth cosin 7x.s removed ;)
I’m not sure of any Scoville’s in our family tree, but I do believe we carry the Scoville meter Gene, along with Berserker Gene. there expensive to test for though.
not so, I think you passed the test.
If you figure the Scoville Scale as having 8 levels then I’m only a level 4, My father is a Lvl-6. And as far as Berserker-Mode as I call it I’ve only had it happened twice. The first you know. The second, well I’m sorry I’ve said to much.
I LOVE IT. Its always the little ones that you be careful of. Once they get uncorked….. There was a quote that I am going to screw up but “A master does not fear another master, they fear the novice, because they have no idea what they are going to do” I am surprised that no one mentioned her other super power……not losing her glasses throughout the whole ordeal ;-)
The one I heard is “The world’s best swordsman does not fear the second best. He fears the worst, because he cannot predict what the fool will try.”
Sort of a Samurai Jack VS Aku?
This has got to be (And I don’t mean just this particular strip) the funniest goddamned thing
I’ve read (or seen, or heard for that matter) in ages! I have been laughing from page one!
You, sir, have just bought yourself a new fan. :D I am utterly impressed.
Thanks a lot!
You’re very welcome, indeed. ^^ Keep up the awesome work!
I’m looking forward to much more. :D
the quote i heard myself is;;((about assassin and merc)) its not the professionals you should worry about, they are predictable,, its the amateur that realy are dangerous!,,,,, or something like that :)
Just finished reading the archives, and I must say the story flows very well so far. I look forward to seeing more.
As a lover of hot stuff, I printed the page of Sydney polishing off her noodles, and hung it in my kitchen. Now I have to explain Scoville Units to visitors (lol!). Whatever it takes to spread the word.
Thanks! Glad you’re enjoying it. The story flow is probably an accident up to this point but I’ll try and keep doing it. :)
Been reading for a couple of months now, and I have to say that this has quickly become one of my favorite webcomics (of the two or so dozen I read on a regular basis). I find myself coming back to it multiple times per week just to snicker at the dialog or admire the artwork and action poses.
Loving the work you do, DaveB. Looking forward to next weeks update.
Thanks! I’m glad and sort of relieved, honestly that so many people are enjoying it.
Don’t worry about speed so much. first get about a two week buffer, for however much you plan on updating, just so that if crazy stuff happens, you don’t feel bad about not having time to draw. I can’t count the number of webcomics I’ve read where they started off once a week, moved up to three times a week, and then bad stuff happened to them, and they couldn’t bring themselves to face the fans after spending so long away. So don’t worry about the speed, checking in once a week is good as long as you don’t leave us hanging for two years like some people do.
And on the topic of the comic, I can’t wait to see how this plays out. I’m guessing that Maxima has some sort of limited sight into the future (from the “what the” comment) And part of her amusement has to be how Sydney is going to be outed. Maybe she gets knocked out by the contents of the tube as they come flying out? :P
I remember when I found your comic for the first time, the page count was low enough I could count them on my fingers and still have room for a few more. I realized quickly that your comic here was quirky and as unique as one can make it without going over a line somewhere. Thank you for making this amazing webcomic, and keep it up I’m on the edge of my metaphorical lab chair.
Absolutely loving this comic Sydney the rage queen is utterly compelling. Kudos on her language got an actual lol.
Also a bonus interweb for the comment with every page enjoying that muchly too.
Hello, i’ve recently found this web comic and absolutely LOVE it! Especially seeing syndy in her rage mode xD. But I have to ask, does this comic have a particular update schedule?
Mondays.
Gotta say it, Sydney reminds me of my sister. She’s 4’11+3/4″ (her claim) tall but held her own with 3 brothers much bigger than her. She (as with most of my family) worked in a Navy Shipyard for years and one comment I heard was that at times she “Sometimes she works us” meaning she not only outworked them but got them to work harder through shear determination. She also had at times a hair trigger temper which as a child I would try to set off just to see the chaos that ensued even though I have to take a few lumps. Both my sisters were known for their tempers. Thankfully I grew up a tad before my baby sister was old enough to kick butt.
Ok, now you seriouly have me, I am wiping tears from my eyes over this one….
So she knows enough wrestling to do a Savage elbow drop and play ground-and-pound, but not enough to go for the Stunner when she had her arms right up there next to the guy’s head?? tsk, tsk… :-P
way I heard it is the wise dragon fears not the traditional knight but the untrained squire for he will improvise.
this one made me laugh till i cried “tag out”
I came upon this comic a few days ago and I loved this comic.
I’m all about reading manga that contain magic powers, humor and the female form. And this little comic satisfies those needs.
The reason I’m posting it here is because i found something that “inconsistent” (and I don’t believe anyone mention it yet. That or you haven’t gotten around to fixing it yet).
On Panel 2, the guy is speaking gibberish due to Sydney throwing him by his tongue. But on panel 5, he’s speaking just fine (I’m assuming “Oh God, make it stop! Tag Out! Tag Out!” came from him and not Sydney). And then in Comic page #49, the guy is speaking gibberish again.
I remember reading the comment post (I’m just that bored) where you mention you hate inconsistency, and I just want to point that out. If I may suggestion, you can translate it into gibberish and underneath that use the * on either end to “translate” it into readable English, in really small font. Of course this mean doing the same for the other two bubble.
I’ll leave it up to you.
I’m going to hate myself because doing so take you away from drawing more pages (if you decided to fix this), but I loved this comic and I believe it should be “free of inconsistency”.
Fair point. I’ll add it to my list of things to fix. (It’s quite a long list at this point)
a couple things to this.
First (please fix if spoiler tag doesn’t work) Amorphous stretches, so is immune to that part of tongue-fu pain, he’s just acting around that.
second: He’s not trying too hard to talk in pannel two, or on page 49 but is scared for his life in pannel five
third: comedy trumps all, as DaveB has said in the past.
FINISH HIM!
My cat looked JUST like Sydney once! A friend brought over his small dog and it started to bark at the cat… Yeeeah. Same thing happened to the dog, too… But with claws instead.
after rereading this for the 6th time, I realize it’s often Dave’s comments, descriptions and sidenotes that make the pages truly hillarious. Without them, it would mostly be over-the-top comic hillarity which gives a “heh” effect.
but this is really the first time in her life that she’s been in a real position of having to defend herself against something more dire than a sexist joke.
But didn’t her background check say she’d been in jail for one night, for some aggravated assault that was ruled in self defense?
Ok a couple of things, max Basicaly has tactile telekinesis, she can do things like that. It’s also Ironicaly the first actual intentional direct use of a superpower and not a required secondary power.(the tube)
