Grrl Power #429 – Snap judgements
I always imagined Pixel being anime-ish (though I realize she maybe looks like a 10 year old a little bit the way I wound up drawing her on this page) Still, it was a while before I thought about how Sydney might react to that. Not that Sydney literally looks like a cartoon, I mean, if this was a live action movie. I try and use slightly different art styles to make each character more recognizable, or at least that was the intent when I started the comic. Really it’s come down to most everyone getting drawn in a standard western comic style and then Sydney is considerably more manga influenced. Really Harem is supposed to look a bit more Disney Princess, Dabbler is supposed to be… evil manga chick, like the kind that smacks you with a riding crop and does the “Oooh ho ho ho!” laugh. Anyway, the point is that it did not escape Sydney’s notice that her and Pixel share more than a few attributes.
Specs is a cameo character courtesy of BrainBlow, (comments handle.) We haven’t seen the last of her or even all her abilities, but it made sense given her spectravision that they’d want her to take a gander at Sydney’s orbs.
Yes, Pixel and Specs should both have Who’s Who entries, but it’s the weekend after A-kon and I’m wiped out so I’ll get those added later today. Speaking of which, A-kon was fun. Fred Perry of Gold Digger didn’t make it this year and there was a disappointing webcomics showing because of some staff turnover behind the scenes, but overall it was enjoyable. I grabbed dinner with a few fans and we let our nerd flags fly a bit. I actually missed the con on Saturday though cause I was working on the comic. I really need to figure out a way t draw faster. :P
Patreon supporters can view this page at twice the size! (as soon as I wake up and post it then immediately go back to sleep since Patreon doesn’t have a way to schedule posts yet.) $1 and up, but feel free to contribute as much as you like :)
Here’s the link to the new comments highlighter for chrome, and the GitHub link which you can use to install on FireFox via Greasemonkey.
Has anyone else noticed the current advert, for “Adamant”, and wondered if it might be a reactive advert, picking up on our numerous recent comments about adamantium and adamantite?
And if you haven’t noticed, then you are bad puppies. You should add grrlpowercomic.com to the list of exceptions on your add blocker.
Err… or you should just be more observant. ;-)
Yes, had noticed it a couple days ago, and had a similar thought :D
Even more intriguing, they actually mention my name a couple of times, in the dialogue! Although they do have a running gag of mistranslating things. So it seems to be “yes” for them.
Hmm, if they mention you by name, may just have to check it out :D
Okay, some of the artwork is going to take a little getting used to (reminds me of some early issues of “2000AD”)
I don’t need adblocker to completely miss whole sidebar.
Stray thought: Maybe the bell (and the collar supporting it?) is one of the artefacts with which Pixel “has some experience”? And maybe, without the bell, we’d see that she isn’t superhuman but…
… superfeline ?
Woof woof woof!
Grrrrooowwwlll!
Down Yorp, bad Yorp cats are okay they figure out how to get the ham off the table for you. Or in the case of some of the cats I have own figured out how to get treats 24/7 by simply being cute like the new kittens we have the some people spoil them way to much.
Stop agitating Puppy!!!!
So, Dabbler is standing right there and *not* making the “Specs is checking out Sydney’s orbs” joke. She must be *really* preoccupied with the chart.
Just realized when I cruising back through the archives that when Sydney first met Peggy (https://www.grrlpowercomic.com/archives/660), who has pink hair, Sydney said Hola. Now we have a pink-haired Sydney-esque person greeting Sydney with an Hola. No wonder Sydney doesn’t like her. The Deja Vu is getting to her.
DaveB, I was curious as to how any conflict between a special agent of Arc Light and a member of Arc SWAT might be handled. Normally they would be separate chains of command, but clearly there will be times when joint operations are necessary. At the time those are established, who is in command would be determined. But other occasions, such as responding to a super-villain incursion into the Arcon HQ, they would have to resolve this by comparing their respective ranks.
Which made me wonder, what military rank would be sufficient to outrank a special agent? Interestingly enough I found out that there are special agents within the US military already. Who are assigned regular military ranks. Presumably for precisely such situations.
Their uniform code does allow for plain clothes. And Archon has its own dress codes anyhow. As such both Pixel and Specs could have a military rank, despite appearing in civilian clothes above. If they follow the other branches precedent, which I linked, they will also have military uniforms, for the appropriate circumstances.
I thought I would bring this to your attention, in case it is of use to you.
we know that zeph IS the comanding officer of arc-light or i guess comander officer its not the right word the right word would be the head of the department of inteligence of archon (which its arc-light) so i doub he would really dispute against maxima in case there would be an attack against archon HQ he seems in general like a chill guy, also there is a general as the general head of archon so i guess in such a situation he would take presedence over both maxima and zeph as the comanding officer of all of archon
for joint operations well that would depend more between the posible relationship between a special field agent and basically an elite military unit, how would a SEAL react to having to work with a CIA agent in an operation? that kind of stuff
I started this comic today… Also finished it. I absolutely love the humour. and i love that you finally upped your game ta 2 a week ;) now i have three solid webcomics to keep up with. the force is strong with this one. well deserved first place in the webvotes.
Welcome to the comic and the community.
Please keep your seat upright and fasten your seatbelt. You may keep the tray down, snax will likely be served shortly. The emergency exits are to the left and the right side of the fourth wall. Which you can break with the hammer provided. I hope you enjoy the ride.
Hola! Thanks and welcome!
Sydney’s wearing boots still right? so she’s shorter than Pixel.
My guess Dabbler overestimated the level of detail she would remember and might be a bit dyslexic/dysgraphic. There was a ring of unfilled slots inside the inner ring Dabbler drew also some of the orphaned nodes are on the other sides of the orbs from where they were originally.
Or… Maybe what Dabbler saw is different from what all the humans saw. She does have an alien eye, after all.
Just throwing it out there.
+1
Also I think Max would make herself be fine with it if another gold plated gladiatrix showed up even if she really weren’t.
>Identical in every spectrum.
>Clearly different colours.
Where’s my No-Prize, Dave?
The orbs have various properties that appear to contradict normal physics. Such as the skill tree being visible to normal eyesight, but undetectable by cybernetic eyes or cameras. All this latest information does is indicate the phenomenon in question carries on doing that, regardless of the spectrum you view it via.
In other words, this is not a writing error. Dabbler, and the rest of the cast, are just as puzzled as you are, over these weird properties the orbs possess.
I’ve got a coat like that pink-haired girl is wearing… except mine is longer. Like zero ground clearance. I believe that one is actually my longest. I don’t wear it much for that very reason.
SHIT SHIT SHIT WRONG PAGE :(((
Dave, erase this ASAP please :(
Oh wait, this is not the spoiler version of the post, puff, but could you erase it anyway, please?
