Grrl Power #371 – Dabbler is like a hammer; she’s out to nail everyone
Yeah that Harem’s a real party girl, or so she would have you believe! She actually has done far more than her fair share of it, as she has done far more than her fair share of most things as one might expect from someone who can do 5 things at once. At the very least, one of her is actually at the club now, one is talking with the brass, and another one is helping a 4th get ready. What, like only one of her is going to the club? None of that means she never embellishes any of her stories though.
Sydney’s question in the mini comic is legit, and really the only way to find out is to find out.
Dabbler takes sex pretty seriously, no surprise there, but not so seriously that she’d be offended by a shirt which suggested that “all I got was ████ by Dabbler” like that’s some sort of consolation prize instead of the reason the whole fight went down in the first place. Neither Arianna nor Maxima are have seen that shirt by the way.
And a random artist thought for you; Drawing someone sitting in someone else’s lap is surprisingly difficult. Getting all the parts in the right place is trickier than you’d think.

The Barberian could be bisexual, even with Dabblers thorough checking to make sure he was attracted to women. Unless she meant that she actually asked him multiple times….
Technacly, you are right… but I think that Dabbler CAN have sex LIKE a man… More fun, I say
[I certanly would change my gender if I could from one to another naturally and withing a single sex scene.]
Point. Maybe that’s some of the “muscles” she was talking about having that earth women don’t. (And that certainly is appealing)Which would make her checking his sexual preferences multiple times be a more involved thing than just assuming that because he had sex with her he’s straight.
… And makes for far more interesting fan fic. You know. If anyone wanted to take on the task.
Might I suggest reading Narbonic, then? Helen invents a chemical that when ingested causes spontaneous gender re-assignment.
Though, I’m in the camp of people that are perfectly happy to consistently remain the same single sex.
@Alekay: So is Dabbler a shapeshifter, or does she just have glamour like one of the Fair Folk? If she’s an actual shapeshifter, she could then be either a sequential hermaphrodite (like some species of frogs or fish, able to change from female to male and back) or a simultaneous hermaphrodite (both male and female at the same time). It’s been strongly hinted that Mystique of X-Men fame can also change genders at will (one storyline had her as Nightcrawler’s father, with Destiny as his mother, before the powers that be at Marvel nixed the idea; personally, I think that was really chicken of them…).
@MCM: Then that would technically make her a futanari of some kind, wouldn’t it? Meaning that either she is actually a simultaneous hermaphrodite or a pseudohermaphrodite (a very rare form of intersexed person, having a functional penis as well as full set of female genitalia, but unable to impregnate other females of any compatible species).
@Gyrre: Not the first time that someone has thought up a “sex change in a pill”. Neil Gaiman also wrote a nice little short story about an experimental cancer cure that had the interesting side effect of changing its user’s gender, and in the story, he mentions not only wives fed up with their husbands being sexist jerks dosing said husbands with the drug, but even a subculture of people changing genders regularly for thrills. Aside from the fact that if such a drug were somehow possible, its inventor would be a saint to the transgender community (and possibly the intersex community as well), but imagine the possibilities for abuse that such a drug would enable.
Personally, I’m comfortable as a man for the most part, but I admit that I’d try a temporary gender-swapping drug once or twice just to see “how the other half lives”.
On the other hand, I can see really twisted uses for some of the other things Helen invented, such as intelligent human/animal crossbreeds and the “mad scientist cure”. Speaking as someone who has clinical depression, if someone were to offer me a quick and easy cure, and it really worked, I’d put up with quite a few side effects, believe me!
The latter. Whilst she pretends to be able to shapechange into a battleform (at the press conference), that is just a cover so that she can drop her human illusion, in public, when it suits her.
For info, although some legends indicate that a Succubus can turn into their male counterpart, the Incubus, and back again, that is not the case in the Grrl Power Verse. Succubi are strictly female only. In order to mate they have to find a male from another species.
If you are not already a fan, it sounds like you would love El Goonish Shive. They have gender swapping (and other changes) galore. Not to mention sex-swap parties, to see how the other half lives, for an evening.
He could be even gay, but it does not matter. Every man is straight for Dabbler!
Hey could Dabbler not better Zonk Vehemence.
If you turn useless from being Zonked and she get charged up from Zonking more. Vehemence seems like the perfect candidate.
Short-haired Harem just ‘Ported from her seat to standing next to Dabbler and Barbarian. I think the description of her powers is way off.
That was a straight forward teleport. If Another Harem appeared, then I’d say that she switches places with her other selves.
I have read the explanation, and I don’t buy it. To me it just looks like Harem has 2 Powers. One is Teleportation, the other is making up to 5 autonomous clones of herself.
A person who Teleports doesn’t have to destroy anything, they are just moving from Point A to Point B.
The most current science of Teleportation involves Quantum Entanglements, which is basically having the State of One Particle alter the State of Another Particle. But even here, there is no particle destruction. It is more in line with replication or cloning.
https://www.grrlpowercomic.com/archives/1302 is probably the clearest explanation of how Harem’s powers work ;)
Don’t allow my use of ‘disintegration’ to cloud the issue. It is simply a flip side way of describing the official explanation.
Person exists at point A, but not at point B —->
Person does not exist at point A, but does exist at point B
However the actual mechanism works, the ‘not existing at point A’ remains. Both McCoy and myself choose to equate that to disintegration, regardless of the scientific (or pseudo-scientific) explanations to the contrary.
But do ignore that if examining the science/ pseudo-science. That is not actually canon. However, the fact that she uses her teleportation to achieve that effect is. Harem has learnt how to use it to change the above to:
Person exists at point A, but not at point B —->
Person exists at point A, and exists at point B
For most intents and purposes, you are correct, that it is two separate powers (given that Harem seems to be limited to five bodies). It is just that they draw on a common rationale, to explain how they work.
Seems to me that an easier way to explain how Harem’s ability(ies? We may never know) work. From my understanding, her porting works in a similar fashion to Nightcrawler, jumping through another dimension to poof somewhere, and her ability to port is similarly limited to line of sight and memorized locations. She’s basically just taking little hyperspace jumps. Her bodies and their cargo can also be stored in said dimension, while allowing her to access more of their combined strength. Harem’s a self contained hyperspace drive/bag of holding. This also allows for single body solo jumps as we see here. She’s shown this before, in the elevator when she was showing off way back when.
I’m rereading and all I can say is that Dave captured extremely well the feeling of being gay and getting hit on by an incredibly hot woman. The deer-in-headlights effect as well as the utter crippling of any built up suaveness or confidence to the point that only stuttering is an option.
Yes, I do agree, though in my case, there’s not much confidence to cripple… I just melt…
