Grrl Power #311 – Succubi rarely diet (insert joke about juice cleanse)
Mr. Rogson doesn’t like people practicing casting in his Home Economics class. Save that for Mischievous Spellcraft 101. I love that bottom panel – so many unanswered questions. Is that succubus being nice to that guy and/or mean to the cheerleaders? Is she being mean to the guy? Is she being mean to someone who likes that guy? Why is the succubus not a cheerleader? You’d think she would be one. Is she messing with the cheerleaders cause she’s not on the team? Do demons even go to high school? Could I totally write a comic called Demon High? Ok that one isn’t unanswered. I totally could. Oh and the angel? She’s an exchange student. Daddy’s a progressive archangel and he thought it’d be a good idea, so naturally she made herself head cheerleader. The demonettes aren’t all that happy about it, but she has her halo already. Normally angels don’t get them that young, the have to choose a profession first and that determines the kind of halo you get and what powers come with it, but mom’s a Valkyrie and she pulled some strings. (Or threatened to garrote someone with their own harp strings.) No daughter of hers is going to the nether boroughs without protection. Apparently it does not protect her from succubus charm spells though. Geeze, this stuff writes itself.
Normally I wouldn’t point out Dabbler sitting in the back of the room, cause I like saving that sort of stuff for the more eagle eyed among you, but I will this time cause I wanted to say that while she’s obviously had a long and illustrious adventuring career, I wasn’t sure what her early childhood or adolescence was like. As I was drawing her in that panel I super fell in love with the idea of her being a gawky teenager. Especially considering her unusually mixed heritage, I can see her with big corrective lenses and one extra large horseshoe (or whatever you’d wear on a cloven hoof) to correct an uneven pigeon toe. Also the other succubi girls, who develop into insanely attractive if somewhat demony teenagers early on, making fun of her for being awkward and/or “too exotic.” In any case, I’m calling that bottom panel totally canon.
I’m actually not sure what early life is like for succubi. They’re not born sexually mature certainly – physically how would that even work? As I think about it, it makes sense that they’d be born normally and that their tantric energy needs are a fraction of what a mature succubi’s are. They start off supplementing from their mothers, (which invites all sorts of questions about family units and succubus/demon culture in general) and as they grow up they can absorb minimal ambient energy from others. While succubus sex ed is comprehensive, they still go through the usual teenage fumblings while they learn to draw energy directly from a partner.
Ok I’ll stop now, I could seriously come up with 50 pages for Demon High right now. Since people have noticed her, I’ll give a shoutout to the cameo by Ava’s Demon, (an enormously well drawn comic) who is resting on top of Dabbler’s head in the last panel.
#MakeComics: This page was one of the hardest pages to write to date in the comic. Besides trying to fit entirely too much dialog on the page, then editing and re-editing it all (I even did some editing right before the page went up.) a large part of it was trying dance around the word “rapey” without actually using it, but I couldn’t quite get Sydney’s point across well enough without it. Plus that’s just the way she talks. I do try and give each character their own voice. Sydney will be going to Archon finishing school here soon, but they won’t be able to iron all her wrinkles out I suspect. It’s telling that Sydney doesn’t even consider the issue of consent in the other direction, (something a lot of people commented on in the previous page) whereas Dabbler goes right there since Succubi are obviously equipped to… well, for them, the demarcation between seduction and… you know, seduction, is broad and blurry. Dabbler is down with all parties being copacetic. There are probably exceptions in her past but she’s behaved while being a guest here on Earth.

So, DaveB, no doubt I’m going to raise some heat and ire in asking this, but against all sensibility, my morbid curiosity has gotten the better of me. Was this comic written prior to the heated debate brought up by the previous comic, or because of it? My sensibility assures me there’s no way that you could have put it together so quickly, given the detail and skill level of your artwork, but there’s that lingering twinge of my doubt that suggests this may have been an attempt at damage control. Not that it’s bad either way, I’m just curious; your reply or lack thereof won’t change how much I enjoy this comic.
No this was written and drawn totally before the prior page went up. Maybe I should have mentioned in my post edit that Sydney has some follow up questions. :)

I like the ‘wilkd mane tossed to the side’ look for Dabbler. it looks different from her usual swept back, and while it may be her ‘morning after’ look I think it’s very appealing on her.

I’ve contemplated the idea that one of the two inactive orbs is a replicator, echoing another super’s powers. Having to take a target’s full ‘suite’ of powers, without being able to just take the ones specifically needed, could get interesting in the case of using it on Dabbler.

H.I.M stands for His Infernal Majesty who has a bi-gender vibe to him, his voice is a mixture of high and low. Wears frilly stuff and has crab claws and dainty cloven hooved feet. There are no shoes for cloven hooves.
Recall he is an angel, one of the highest of the high that was tossed into the lower infernal regions for trying to usurp the Heavenly throne, along with one third of the Heavenly Host.
Dark Angels (demons) like Light Angels have no gender though the Bible implies they could possibly have sex, even if it is by men raping them.
They don’t go to school, they were created with all the knowledge they would need. However “Demon High” makes for a racy randy profane comic and I would read it with alacrity! Even if it has to be just in black and white I would want to read it.
That isn’t a member of the Cthulhu spawn. But a much smaller type resembling the big boys of R’ley. Though I do posit an alternate species called either KUTUN or KUTULLU that look like that generally.

No wonder he went all “I am an Elder god, I will bring madness to the universe.” It’s kind of like Tom Riddle rejecting his half muggle parentage and going all “I am a Dark Lord, I have 8 soul fragments and cannot die,” just a bit overcompensating for an unhappy childhood.

It seems to be a target specific lust aura being cast by the other succubi on the hapless male that only effects cheerleaders. Which, as enchantments go, is quite skilled. Brava, brava. Cheerleader fishing applies, as they are all ignoring the hook because they want the worm *cough*
I suspect the parsing of the spell is “Cheerleader bait”, and is actually being cast on the male.
Er, no. The spell is compelling the cheerleader to act as would the bait on a hook, thus luring (a fishing term) the male to react to her actions.

That “Son of Octodad” looking kid makes me think of comic 88 when Dabbler was watching hentai in the mini-comic.
And on the far left isn’t that the guy Dabbler got her sword from? Ooh! Maybe they dated in Bischool. Then in like 500 pages or so, he makes his big dramatic entrance, does his big dramatic monologue, and then Dabbler is like “Are you STILL butthurt about me dumping you? That was like 200 years ago!”
I THOUGHT I saw Ava’s Demon floating in the background there! Good to know I’m not going crazy! :P

The demon on the far left in the classroom kinda sorta reminds me of Blokk from Shadow Raiders… And that got me thinking… Unicron from Transformers vs the Beast Planet from Shadow Raiders… Who would win?
Unicron, because an ancient, near indestructible planet sized machine that consumes worlds will always lose to the ancient, near indestructible planet sized machine that consumes worlds and also transforms into a robot the size of god (both lose to their respective plot mcguffin, cause there is Always a plot mcguffin).
This page starts off like Dabbler’s sexy time talk show. Her last guest “interviewed” and recovering while mumbling attempts at witticisms to the headlining guest’s interview. Later on they’ll have a musical guest who will be “interviewed” as well.
I know how baby / younger succubi / inccubi get love/sex. It’s actually so simple that you’ll super facepalm. They feed on love, the love a parent has for their child is a type of love. As is the affections one gets when looking at something cute / adorable. It’s not lust based tantric energy, but still technically a type of love.
That and you have the whole feeding radius things (With a low starting radius probably being seen as a birth defect. But Vehemance’s size seen as probably massive), so that supplimental energy from ambient love, lust and sex from the environment.
And as they get older, and their sexual hormones kick in, it starts being less familial love and more sexual based love / lust as they develope physically.
This is a nifty idea really, Love and Lust may not be the same thing, but they have common roots and it’s hard to argue that lust and love combined tend to be more intense than lust alone. Like the whole specialised diet bit mentioned by another poster, starting with mother’s milk at the infantile stage, moving on to baby food and so on, starting succubi off with the love and adoration of their parents and the like makes a lot of sense… Also makes for one tooth-rottingly sweet image, thinking of a little dabbler-toddler getting cooed and loved on by her parents as part of getting her her love-noms and such.
Another possibility would be that pre-pubescent demons are not ‘typed’ in that way. They get fed from any sort of minor ‘transgressive’ behavior, and then, as part of puberty, become affiliated with a specific sin.
This would make sense, since younglings might not actually need all that much energy to begin with–they just need basic sustenance. It’s only as they mature and develop their breed-specific powers–auras and hypnoboobs and glamours and blasts of fire and so on–that they increase their need for sin-based ‘calories’. A succubus might be able to abstain totally from sex (or perhaps limit themselves to a bit of self-exploration) by not using their associated powers. Dabbler, of course, clearly has no intention of practicing that sort of self-control.
I think it’s more genetic like that. After all Vemmy didn’t wake up one day and say “Hey! I’m goint to be a Vistric Juggernaught!” Like other supers. It was something he was born with.
I think all demons have certain innate types that are genetic to them, and their children inherit that type (Succubi, Imp, Primes, ect.). And those that feed off of Lust, Violence, Fear, Faith, ect. pass those on to their young, but they are fed things in different types as they are younger so they get the full spectrum of that emotion. I mean you wouldn’t throw an infant Vestric into the middle of a battle field, but you would let them go to UFC (to watch), or a park to see a playground scuffle. Or even a political debate (aggression and conflict without physical violence … unless they go to 4chan).
It makes more sense since there are countless variations of emotions. And a parent that passes that emotional / demon skill form down, would be there to show the child how to use their powers; different ways to feed on X thing; and help them with the problems they don’t teach in school.
It totally does. I d’awwed thinking about it. And her being tantric in nature, at it’s heart. Tantra is about love. Here’s an excerpt from a tantra website.

Most comics/manga/novels adress the situation as the mother feeding her child a portion of the energy she drains in a meal via psychic link… and as succubi are empathic and telepathic, it makes sense… that said, during the period between birth and sexual maturation of the child, the mothers own libido wouod go into overdrive, requiring an additional feeding per child… I read a LOT of fantasy/sci fi novels, and play D&D… its been addressed in various places… this seems to be the general consensus among fantasy authors…

Well, she’s definitely not a Red Bull…Her color & gender are both wrong for that, so it’s got to be her ears, not wings.
This bugs me a little that Dabbler admits to using rape tactics then denies it being rape. Lust aura and pheromones are no different from date rape drugs if they’re used against a target without consent. She’s the female equivalent of a frat boy that spikes someone’s drink with Ecstasy, only worse because she gets away with it by removing the memories of the event so the victims don’t know they were raped.
Two huge differences between the aura and pheromones and drugs are in the words already used. Everyone has pheromones, some have more potent versions than others… If person A meets person B and one just happens to be biologically geared to smell like the human version of cat-nip to the other, are you going to accuse either of them of rape?
Dabbler’s version is of course more potent and more able to work on anyone, but she comes from a species where Everyone has this same ability, she had no more choice in being born with it than did anyone else. Now while she (and the rest of her species) certainly could abuse said abilities that does not make her a rapist any more than Maxima’s abilities make her a monster simply because she Could nuke cities.
(as for whether Dabbler does abuse her abilites or not, Dave’s still in the process of showing us a slice of how that all works for her right now, we have seen Nothing to suggest the barberarian was unwilling to hump a bus, dave has clarified that the amnesia hammer’s effects are temporary and will only deprive him of select bits that would, if they where not taken, leave him incapable of properly enjoying sex with his own species for the rest of his life, you can argue consent, but you cant really say she’s not doing it for his own good.
In this case it seems more a cultural thing for demons to them rape by our definition isn’t bad. To us rape is about having power over someone and is bad, where as to the demons it’s harmless fun. However Dabbler understands this and doesn’t participate in it. Dave has said that she didn’t force him or use her lust aura on him and that by any stretch of the definition it was consensual sex. The amnesia thing has been covered in the post above me
Where’s Dabbler’s fourth arm? The one is draped over the back of the couch, and the only logical place I can picture the lower arm being is bent with the hand resting on her leg/knee, but it’s not there. :(
I also love Dabbler’s dress (skirt), but I can just hear my mom yelling at me to put a slip on under it (since a slip’s primary function is to prevent the silhouette from happening). XD
It strikes me that Dabbler’s powers skirt a -very- fine line for voluntary consent. Sure, the guy might be interested anyway, but he still might have said “no” before getting whopped by both her lust aura and pheromones. Very dangerous waters to tread, there. :/

This reminds me of a discussion I had the other day with a friend about Consent, and tentacles. She made a fair point about there being an overabundance of non-con grabbycles and not a lot of “Oh hey you have extra bits, that’s neat we should try some things some time.”

The now-defunct Ghastly’s Ghastly Comic had a running gag that inverted the trope–one character in the cast was a tentacle monster; another was a woman who had fetishes about being taken by a tentacle monster, but the TM was utterly and completely not interested.
“Power and control” aren’t exactly positives…
True but they aren’t exactly negatives either. What makes them positive or negative is often what one does with them.
Power & control are really nothing more than exerting your ability to deny or ignore someone else’s consent (or lack thereof). The means of doing so can be subtle, overt or even violent, but the keystone is the same…Denying consent.

Having read Love Bites and Eerie Cuties in the past, I’m fully in favor of Demon High. I’m sure Demon High would be top class and that trumps if someone had a vaguely similar idea in the past.
