Grrl Power #237 – The tongue is mightier than the sword. Also boobs
Why would you wear a fishnet tanktop to a fight? Especially if we consider that Jabberwokky might be Suicide Girled up all over if you know what I mean. Piercing wise. Well it worked out so good for her.
This was definitely planned as two pages, but I’m always wanting to move things along so despite the extra work I stitched them together. It gives me a little more flexibility with the panel layout so that’s fine. The page presented a minor challenge for me coloring wise. Normally I stick to a set palette because otherwise I’d wind up doing much more dynamic colors like we see in the shadows under Jabber’s jacket. It looks great but it does take longer. Originally my plan with the art in the comic was to do it Tony Wong style. Or Wong Jan-lung if you’re nasty. He’s a Chinese artist who does epic kung-fu comics like Mega Dragon and Tiger, The Legendary Couple, Weapons of the Gods, etc. I reference him because his comics are good “production” level art, but then every few pages, he’ll have a big splash panel where he goes all out on the art. I’ve tried that a few times but I need to speed up more before I’m able to do that.
Speaking of colors, the eagle eyed amongst you (or at least those of you who aren’t mutated wolves with thumbs who read my comic) might have noticed that Dabbler’s stripes go all pink when she’s putting the sapphic whammy on Jaberwokky. Originally Dabbler’s skintone was supposed to reflect her emotions. It would go red if she was mad, pink for randy, etc. Like a lot of other things I refined that idea before she debuted in the comic. So now her stripes change color, but not in response to her emotions, but rather as an indicator of something she’s doing. They have turned another color in the comic before but I don’t recall anyone pointing it out in the comments. It was a busy few panels though. :)
To be clear, I’m not picking on mutated wolves. They could probably tell hot pink from luminous green, but probably not luminous green from aqua. And now that I’ve typed that I can only imagine what percentage of the comments will be about color perception and animals. I’m sure it won’t be the last time it comes up in the comic.
The RSS is still broken I think? I messed with the page a little last week and it seemed to start working for me again, but I keep getting people telling me it’s broken. Unfortunately fixing it starts with eliminating possible sources of the error which means turning off all the plugins I have on the page and seeing if they’re responsible, so if you see the page blowing up real good sometime late Tuesday or Wednesday, that’s probably why.
<— If you enjoy the comic, consider supporting it via Patreon. Or buy something via the Amazon referral link, it’s all good.
Regarding Maths ability to hurt people with superhuman toughness, then it were also a concern i where sharing until his first fight with Concretia.
The blows he were delivering there, making her fly as if hit by a runaway bus, is far above whats possibel for a regular human, and im pretty sure he held back there on the first puch because he did not wish to kill his opponent.
this page kinda reminds me of history’s mightiest disciple kenichi where the one master has clothes destroying attacks just for the ladies
I believe you’re talking about Ba sensie (master Ba), a Chinese martial artist.
I believe you’re thinking about Mahou Sensei Negima! Where the first 150 chapters or so are filled with Flans Exarmatio(Basically a disarming charm, but when used on girls it seems to blow their clothes off instead), and Negi sneezing and flipping the skirts of the female students.
Aaahh, Negima.
Hilarity, fanservice, and seriousness.
And serious awesomeness. Sadly, Akamatsu-sensei’s publisher cancelled it, so he was only able to do a crappy slapped-together ending that didn’t make any sense, or answer/sink any ships. Dammit.
you know there is a sequel?
uq holder
Technically he did the slip shod ending to basicly give himself a better negotiation position (and/or get it done before having to negotiate more) over rights of publication and associated media of it.
Are we Sure Arc are the good guys?
Sure, but Dabbler isn’t a full time member
Dabbler is descended from a race infamous for using seduction to get what they want.
And “all’s fair in love and war”. Arc is battling for their lives. If an Arc member can get an enemy to attack another enemy, so be it. If Jabbers or “floaty balls guy” thinks it is unfair they should have stayed away.
This was bound to happen sooner or later.
What’s going on in Math’s head as he gets a knee to the face and will be the first thing he thinks once’s he’s back up? ….. “I Regret Nothing!!!”
Yeah, that is not a face of a person with regrets.
Math’s face in panels 7 and 8 is hilarious, he’s definitely gonna have good dreams during his “sleepy time”.
what’s going on in his head is I’m surprised he didn’t have his nose bone forced up into his brain (its disturbingly easy, especially given the angle and force she used to smash his nose in)
Actually the whole “nose bone into the brain” thing is a myth. The nose is cartilidge, there’s no bone to force into the brain. Plus if the myth were true, then you’d see a lot of boxers and mma fighters dying in matches due to it. But that doesn’t happen, thus the myth is not true.
I remember hearing about the “nose bone into the brain” thing on the school playground, and how disappointed I was when I learned that it was fake.
Though it is possible to do something similar it involves several very specific blows, quite a bit of power, and even then it’s very unlikely to actually succeed. So if you really need to kill someone there are much easier and more reliable ways to go about it.
Let’s see if he has the same look tomorrow morning (or whenever he finally wakes up).
We may see a first. A guy with his nose in traction.
….damn, now I wish I could kiss Dabbler.
Spanking her is my first thought but she’d probably like it too much.
She’ll go for either one if you’re charming enough.
Charm Person FTW.
Ya know, that’s a bit closer to dominate person, I think.
Or a super-powered (groan) charm person. Not the regular type.
It fits charm person just fine…she’s not ORDERING Jabs to go after someone, which would require dominate…Dominate doesn’t bother with changing the target’s feelings, it’s just puppet-master-like control.
its charm person, if this was dominate dabbler would be wearing leather and jabberwocky would have called her mistress
Don’t give Dabbles any ideas. I’m sure she has such an outfit in the teleport queue. :D
Doesn’t need to be ported, her current top is an illusion as it is :P
I would say that it’s not so much Charm Person (which makes a target believe you are it’s best friend EVER) as Seduction, a spell you will never find in a RPG game with minors (The book it’s from clearly states it’s for adults only) The Seduction spell itself forces the target to love you to the point of worshiping the ground you stand on, which sounds like a pretty good description of what Jabber is going through right now.
Well she is a succubus. Succubi are naturals at the way of the tongue. Seduction is an easy trick for one whose very magical being is about such things.
BoEF, I assume? Haven’t surfed through it in a long time; the games I’m in often have a bunch of idiots, so the DMs generally don’t allow it to be used, so there’s been no need to look through it.
Not BoEF but another one in the same vein, can’t rightly remember the full title of the tip of my tongue, something bout blue magic IIRC
In early versions of Palladium Fantasy they had a spell called Love Charm.
Did a standerd charm effect with sexual overtones, and a side effects table that ran from ok to run from your psycho ex.
Also their insanity tables were a lot more adult oriented.
For you blue magic you may be thinking of Palladiums RIFTS rpg.
I’ve met more than enough 30+ D&D players with the maturity level of a minor that I have a fairly high set of standards for who I will play a PNP role playing game with these past years. My time is more valuable to me than having to waste it setting up to play only to find that I’ll be picking up and leaving (or simply never returning) after finding out after the fact that the DM or one or more of the players is an immature mouth breather who likes to carry out the kind of antics I’ve seen a good number of actual minors manage to avoid with ease.
Not surprised Math went down that way. As for Dabbler…I was wondering if that came up, wonder how long it’ll last, if long term, this could get funny…
It IS funny. That woman started babbling about her drunken lesbian experiences and then turns tigerish on some random guy who has no idea what’s about to hit him. Ha! Let the carnage begin.
Her Freudian slip “most parties” tells me she more into women than she admits (to herself).
True, I shoulda said funnier. I’m still hoping this goes on for a while though, leave everyone trying to figure out if they should arrest her or just leave her be.
Dabs will just break her heart. Kinder to arrest her and hope she find a more suitable lover.
Wow. I was wondering if Math’s lecherous was more for comedic value with him, but it’s apparently a major weakness for him. I imagine he would fight tooth and nail to resist getting cured.
And Damn Dabbler!!! Glad you’re one of the good guys…er, women.
Well this is interesting, using charm to get enemies to fight each other.
“Never underestimate a woman’s power over men.”
Psh! What misandric bullplop! I’d like to see Jabbler or Dabbler pull that crap on a real man! I seriously hate this image of men being sex-crazed idiots that’s been proliferated over years of stereotyping.
All that out of my system, I really like the battle damage on Math and Jabbler. The bruising on their knuckles looks very real, but there’s a complete lack of bruising on Math’s forearms. Defensive wounds usually wind up on the forearms when someone raises their arms to block. The other bruises make sense if they’re grappling, but realistically Math’s forearms should be slightly janked.
to be fair, most males would be distracted for a moment, just not to the extent that Math was.
Also, women have been know to be the cause of wars (Troy.)
nope Helen was pretty much a means to an end. When you think about it in the non glamorised way it was political in a lot of ways.
Actually, it’s never been proven that the Trojan War even HAPPENED that way. Troy has been destroyed several times, with each incarnation given a number. There’s evidence that Troy 6 was destroyed by an earthquake; the Trojan Horse could be a metaphor for that, in that Poseidon was both the god of earthquakes and horses. The remains of Troy 7 show that this one was under siege when it was destroyed. Homer very well could have simply used artistic license and blurred the two versions together when writing his story. It’s never even been confirmed that Helen ever existed.
Sorry about how… non-flowing? my comment is; I like to get my facts straight, so I keep referencing other sites, not necessarily maintaining the same thought throughout.
Best explanation I’ve seen for the trojan horse was that it describes the invention of the siege tower with battering ram. The tower holds the soldiers, and protects them from attack by covering them. You roll it up to the wall, and then swing the ram to break the wall. (Often with an animal’s head on the front for decoration… The whole thing looking like a giant wooden horse wouldn’t be out of the question.)
Defending soldiers wouldn’t know what it was the first time they saw it, and might let it get fairly close to the walls without attacking. (Whereas the best strategy is to bombard with catapults at a distance, hoping to break it.)
When we first meet otherworldy intelligences, you will most certainly not be allowed on the welcoming party.
Never assume that first contact won’t be in the form of a deorbited asteroid. };op
It’s been pretty much true throughout all of warfare that he who holds the high ground holds all the cards.
This truism won’t change at all just because we start talking about who is higher up the gravity well instead of who has the higher flying or faster or more maneuverable air-breathing planes.
Or that as difficult as our current understanding of physics lends us to believe interstellar travel would be that aliens are going to be more “cute and cuddly” then historical “explorers” were when we met less advanced cultures.
In an old sci-fi TV show (Buck Rogers?) I remember a human riding in the command ship of one of two warring alien races. When they were making up their battle plans he asked “Have you ever heard of something called a Trojan Horse?” They replied ‘no’ and he said “Let’s hope they haven’t either”.
Why not? I’m perfectly willing to be peaceful and friendly to an alien if they are willing to do the same. I’d even argue that it’s good policy: If there is one alien race out there, there are probably many, and we don’t want to tick them all off.
Of course I wouldn’t want to assume they are necessarily friendly either – but if they came to us and want to talk I think it would be the most logical. (If they aren’t friendly and come to us, there’s no good reason for them to talk, after all.)
Ah from Ben Bova’s Orian series.
I don’t think I’ve read that, actually. I believe I actually saw it on some historical thing, as being put forth by an archeologist.
@Adamas: I vehemently disagree. Most men would not be distracted for a moment. They’d take advantage of her wardrobe malfunction and take her down.
I’m A Gray Phantom, and I have opinions on the internet.
Average dude against Jabberwocky = distracted
Math-level letch against Jabberwocky = shown
Average dude against Dabbler = Math-level letch against Jabberwocky
Math-level letch against Dabbler = Age gate needed
Makes me wonder how she would fare against Discworld’s Esmeralda Weatherwax (a.k.a. Granny Weatherwax).
Let’s be honest here: this isn’t “all men”. This is Math, whose character sheet states point-blank that he’s actually lost ring fights because he got distracted by some ringside bit of crumpet. The ‘average man’ would’ve just hit her again, harder. So while I’d normally be right there with you on the BS’ness of misandry, this ain’t it any more than pointing out that Maxima is kinda a bitch is bigoted against women.
I second that. It’s his major character flaw. Math is an extraordinary leech.
super letch .. and i think math may have thrown that fight
Maxima also probably would have used a nipple cripple on her exposed assets.
@Dave: Oh I totally agree about Math. That’s why I said I’d like to see Jabbler pull that trick on a real man. Like you typed out, I’m sure a real man would have just hit her harder.
It’s scenes like that that purport that men are drooling, idiotic slaves to their libido. I’m not denying that there are idiotic, lecherous men in the world, just that that is the common perception of men everywhere.
And I don’t like Maxima. I haven’t liked her from the start. I don’t like using the “B” word, and I can only recall a couple times I’ve used that word in my life, but I don’t like her for a lot of reprehensible things she’s done which I’ve complained about in other comics of pages past.
There’s… something iffy about saying that someone isn’t a ‘real man’ because they can be distracted by the sexy. It’s not like there’s some institute issuing and pulling ‘man cards’ based on some obscure combination of criteria. A man is a man if he identifies as a man. No combination of traits will make someone who identifies as a man ‘not a real man’.
Perhaps ‘average man’ or ‘an everyman’ would have a less misandristy tone to it.
That’s a really good point, particularly in light of the “FINALLY!” panel when these two first got going.
On the defencive wounds, you gatta remember that Math is an extremely skilled fighter used to fighting supers that are WAY stronger than he is.
So all logic states that he would never try to block a punch, only redirect (which is also more effective than simply blocking). So asuming he’s good enough (he is, that’s his entire power), he would have effectivlely no bruising on his arms originating from blocking hits
@Rob: Then where’d the scratches on his chest come from? Grappling, yeah? I’m actually legitimately curious.
Last we saw her she has activated Cheeta style, so probably just nails? Or missed grapples, that’s possible to. I gatta admit, I didn’t even see those at first
They are both pritty bruised, so Math’s defence sure isn’t perfect
Never underestimate a woman’s power over men is sort of the succubus motto. You’re right, some men aren’t total idiots around women, but some are. Math falls into the second category.
Yeah; I took Dabbler’s comment more as ‘let me show you how powerful lust can be’ than as a general statement.
Well yeah. After all, Math’s lust was his own downfall, so now Jabber is getting a taste of what that kind of lust can make HER do…
to quote DC’s description of Queen Bee: “Can mind control most men and some women “
Okay, I know this page is all about Jabber’s bewbs, but is this the first time we’ve seen her from behind because DAMN dem booty shorts. <_<;; #objectification
Also, was great to meet you at Zeus on Saturday. What did you think of Guardians of the Galaxy?
Guardians was great. I couldn’t help but think it was the best Star Wars movie made in the last 15 years.
I am so quoting you on that.
I’m trying to avoid seeing it, because the Guardians of the Galaxy that I know and love from the comics I read include Vance Astro, Nikki, Charlie 7, Martinex, Yondu, and Starhawk/Aleta.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guardians_of_the_Galaxy_%281969_team%29
Aside from having read a lot of comics which included Quasar, Adam Warlock, Gamora and Drax the Destroyer due to having collected the Quasar and Adam Warlock comics (plus Captain Marvel, which had a lot of Adam Warlock in it for a while), I have no ties at all to the team presented for the movie.
It’s a shame, because the Guardians of the Galaxy was a great comic, exploring as it did the history of the Marvel Universe many years in the future. The Vision had become Mainframe, a computer which filled most of an asteroid, there was a descendent of Wolverine who got her hands on one of his adamantine claws which had been broken off, an race called The Stark who had their entire culture altered when a fleet of Iron Man suits landed on their planet, Vance went on a quest to recover Captain America’s shield, and a lot of other fun and awesome ties to the present MU.
Don’t let your enjoyment of the source material keep you from seeing the movie. Obviously a 2 hour movie can’t recount 40 years of comic book saga, they had to pick a distilled team to give them just enough screen time that they can have meaningful arcs. Forget it’s GotG, pretend it’s a high-sci-fi D&D adventure. A rag tag group assembles, decides they have a common goal, humor, special effects and a good soundtrack ensue.
Remember that bit about a decendant of Wolverine with one of his claws, but it was a “What If…?” and the claw was broken off in a fight with Gladiator
Oh, that’s who she reminds me of! Gilda the Griffon.
Ah! another one of my favorite webcomic authors! :D
Well hi Tenebrae, thank you very much!
I just realized.. Dabbler’s blue marking turned pink when she cranked up the seduction power.
Yea, DaveB already talked about that in the autor’s comment
Yeah noticed it before though it’s a lot more subtle with beholder on human skin tones it (I assume it was a light blue while using it the first time and went to light pinkish on the next page after she stopped and that wasn’t used the second time she beholdered). Hell even every time she disguised herself her facial markings pop to a light pinkish.
I’ve only recently started a reread with an emphasis on reading the reader comments.
Also, the nearby area was completely engulfed in tiny pink floating hearts.
And Dabbler’s ears also turned pink.
But is that magic? After all, Math made the entire background of panel 7 fill with a giant heart. :)
(The background probably should have been a shadowy image of his pants with a telling bulge, rather than a heart. But hey…)
For wolves with thumbs check out . I think they would be offended,if you call them mutated though.
Wait a minute! Math looks and acts just like Joukyou from Aiki! No wonder I find him so awesome.
man i really miss that series
Dabbler has two tongues….
Damn. I want to kiss that.
It’s just split at the end. See here on Dave’s Deviant Art page
Forked. She’s part demon after all.
Double pierced as well (either double pierced with two barbells, or quad-pierced with 4 studs)
…And Native Americans thougght the *white man* spoke with forked tongue…
…They got nothin’ on Dabbler!
I might have found one of Dabs relatives…
https://imgur.com/gtqOzqm
To add to her various techniques Dabbler has the art of French kissing with forked tongues.
Anyone else think Jabberwocky should be the next vote incentive?
I’d be down with that.
VDSD needs to be a quarterly affair :D
Math apparently already got enough incentive to be down with that…
Speaking even as a man, the idea of a fishnet top with no padding/covering makes my nipples hurt. Although with super-human toughness maybe the drag of the material across them wouldn’t hurt as much.
That’s why the nipples go between the holes, not against the string
yes and think about the chaffing
As you are moving around vigorously, the fishnet top and the breasts under them will have considerable relative movement. Her nipples will be popping from one hole to the next all the time while fighting Math, or anybody else. Even running could do it.
While it’s amusing that Pangolin Style (poison armadillo, basically) is what she was planning to use, I think it woulda been really funny if she’s switched to Sula Style – that is, if she’d literally beaten him with Booby Style.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lpBfXeKWzaA ?
Sadly she’s the only one who actually ends up being effective, out of the twelve.
Hmm now I’m curious if we’re actually gonna see a real fight between them or if shes gonna just straight up get one shot.
Ok, I must know- What does Pangolin style consist of??
Apparently being hit in the stomach very hard.
Defense, scratching/digging, licking
Here’s one in defense mode,
Here a view of one’s claws and tongue.
So there is an animal out there with a tongue longer than Gene Simmons?
I meant longer than Gene Simmons’ tongue, not Gene Simmons himself.
It’s her medium everything mode. Better armor and hitting power than cheetah style but worse speed. Good scratching attacks still. She could have called it any number of things but pangolins are cool.
They even modeled a pokemon on one.
And all of Math’s combat credibility just got thrown out the window when he got K.O. ed by a fishnet flasher! So much for Mr. grand master.
But just then the cheapest OP character had to ruin the moment with a lipstick lesbian hipno kiss, ARE YOU KIDDING ME! That was almost as bad a one shot that what she did to Glowbug!
What? You are surprised? It’s not the first time, and certainly not even the first time shown in-comic
How would you suggest a hot alien-succubus gain control of someone? Or is the complaint simply because Dabbles kissed a girl (and clearly liked it)?
The one shots were bad before but with Dabbler they just went to embarrassingly ridiculous levels. “Bzzt,” sleep spell, kiss mind control. Give me a freaking break!
Me thinks it be a bit too, Dabbler Ex Machina.
I have to admit, it seems like Dabbler is stealing everyone’s thunder today. On the other hand, jumping in when a teammate is having trouble with an opponent seems to be her kind of thing. What does it matter who beats who as long as the whole team makes it through the fight?
When the bad guys field someone who is a jill of all trades like Dabbler, worry. All of a sudden they will be playing to their advantages because they have someone who can cover their weaknesses with one-shot attacks. Also, that could totally happen. There’s bound to be supers who are watching this fight with interest. As Magneto said, there’s a reason why the pawns go first in chess – so the more powerful pieces can control the board while remaining relatively unscathed.
Knowing that Dabbler has the abilities she has, they can come up with some sort of countermeasures. The only problem they have is that until now, she has been (I would assume) a relatively unknown factor.
First time she did it Gigawatt didn’t even need her help. She was holding her own ageist Glow bug just fine. And really Dabbler should know better seeing as how she didn’t appreciate Peggy sticking her big nose in Dabblers fight.
Well Jiggs was holding her own at the expense of everyone’s lives so butting in was kinda needed.
Shame on Dabbler for wanting to save everyone there from radiation poisoning!
Exactly, that could have been a good path story wise. Gigawatt guilty about what happened and so many people now ageist Arch swat for having dangerous heroes with massively lethal powers. All apart of the main villains plane. Like to see them try and put a positive spin on that.
Except, IIRC (and I’m almost certain I do, although I’m not about to go through DaveB‘s comments to find a specific reference), he said he wanted to keep the comic light/comedic or something like that.
Badger from Capital/First Comics, had a martial artist named Jabberwocky, didn’t it? He was a young black man without actual super powers, though. “Some say it’s my jabber, some say it’s my walk,” or something like that!
I loved Badger. Uf-da!
Nice artwork as allways. Altough it’s starting to turn into a very Dabbler centered look-at-all-I-can-do. I am sorry to say but as interessting she is/was, she is in danger of becoming a boring god mode sue.
Well, to be frank, she is the second most powerful member of ARCswat, behind only Maxima. Though I do agree we need to be shown more flaws than her ADHD and her constant horniness.
The problem with trying to show Dabbler’s flaws is that she is one of the squishier members of the team. Other than her shield spell, she hasn’t shown any way of defending herself against a physical hit. If something actually makes contact, Dabbler could go easily down in one hit, which would make her look quite weak for her 7 power rating.
What I’m trying to say here is that wizards are always really impressive, until they get one-shotted by a sneak attack from the rogue. (Which may be what happens, depending on Dabbler’s fate in this battle.)
There is a saying from one of the RPG’s I used to play, (maybe Shadowrun? I don’t remember)
No matter how subtle the wizard, a knife in the back will seriously cramp his style.
Sorry just can’t join with the growing hate on some folks have for Dabbler’s awesomeness and Math getting owned because he was distracted by the TA-TA’s was perfectly in character for him. Seriously though this is the teams first battle with a group of literal no names and some folks are upset that it’s not like the Avenger’s versus the Masters of Evil level scuffle. Two members of Archon have just been taken out in rabid succession and your freaking out over one of the stated most powerful heroes is finally taking care of her share of the trash.
Actually, threee members of Archon have been taking out in rapid succession: Heatwave, Morph and now Math
And you are correct: people bitched and moaned when Dabbles was getting her ears docked by Heaven, and now bitching even more that she took control of Jabbers
Okay I admit, I had to look up a pangolin. That being said I’m happy you referenced Mega Tiger and Dragon as it’s a very cool series. Clicking the link showed I had picked up the books over 6 years ago. Good stuff.
Hey, does your name have anything to do with Tears to Tiara?
In the Badger the character’s real name was Riley, I believe. Though he did use the line “They call me Jabberwocky, some say it’s my jabber and some say it’s my walk.”
Loved this episode. Dabbs may not be much of a swordfighter, but in the past she has fought Max to a standstill, and beat Mathias. So what if she used magic to do it, a weapon unused is a useless weapon and even Superman will tell you that magic is a total game changer. However, She has been slinging some serious magic in a very short amount of time, so I wonder just exactly how much mana she has on hand and if the effect that Jabbs is feeling is a spell or an innate succubus ability, i.e. pheromone overdose. There wasn’t a spell bubble with symbols and words in archaic font during the kiss like there has been with other spells. Perhaps Dabbler just dialed the old lust dust up to 1000 and made physical/sexual contact, in which case the effect may only last until 1. Jabbs gets out of eye/smell range, or 2. Jabbs gets the hell knocked out of her. I also like how Dabbler isn’t exactly controlling her, it was more like a subtle suggestion kind of like the Bene Gesserit ‘Voice’ from the Dune movie.
This has all the signs of simple Succubus powers.
On the magic, we don’t know much about her mana, but DaveB did say at one point that her Shield did have a reserve that could get depleted. So my guess is her entire magic pool does. It would be a nice balancer.
On the other hand though, she also has her technomagic, which is only limited by how fast she can teleport in goodies (and if she has a goodie for a specific scenario)
If Dabbler’s ADHD works anything like mine, she has a device for anything and everything, but only a handful are actually finished, while the majority of projects only ever reach 90% completion.
Some folks would complain no matter who it is in more then one page taking out more then a single bad guy. Only reason I think no one’s crying about Max is she’s been spaced out more thru out the fight so fa.r
Yes please stop it with the complaints about Dabbler Ex Machina. Wow, no one here can stop Dabbler. You know who else can’t stop Dabbler? Maxima. Despite being decently lower on the power chart Max could not beat Dabbler. Also……you might say Dabbs is not from around here. She brings things to the fight that none of these people have even seen, couldn’t imagine and have little or no way to stop.
Like magic. Whole genres should have taught people by now that the side with the wizard wins. All of the nice bricks on the other side have about nothing they could do against it other than blind siding her before she can cast. People keep imagining what would happen if Maxima just rolled down on these people…..well, probably more violence and less fun than Dabbler is having but largely the same result.
Until the Crying Game or Skullface, Baron of Capelandia decide to do something, Dabbler is the most powerful unit on the field right now.
Also…..would anyone be terribly shocked if Skullface was actually just the nerd from Robot Chicken? He always wanted to be a super villain. The would be so cool. Sooooo Cooool.
Was it page 164 where her stripes changed color? They looked kind of blue(r) and glowy, but I thought that was her cyborg arm power.
No, on this page, when she’s working the magic on Jabberwock, her stripes are pink.
Dave said it had happened once before. That was what I meant.
Watch out, Math… she’s mammary-trapped!
He DID watch…That’s how he fell for the trap.
I just realized Dabbler set a murderous villain after someone who’s only crime is standing there looking menacing as he tosses balls in the air.
She hasn’t proved to be murderous yet just arrogant and boastful. While she did say she’ll kill him she could mean it figuratively not literally. Like when a parent gets a call from school about a child misbehaving and they say “I’m gonna kill him!”.
She’s a villain, she’s got to be murderous in some degree!
Why? Not all villains are killers, same as how not all heroes are boy scouts
On page 230, he ordered people to attack Hiro. (And to “distract Halo with something shiny.”) I think that establishes him as more than a bystander.
I’m pretty sure he’s levitating the balls, not than tossing them, but the biggest concern is what his reaction will be, and if his frown can get any more comical.
Now we know how versus Max, Dabbler got that stalemate.
Pangolin style ==armored critter. So his hit tagged a shifted-to-defense Jabber and had little effect. Works for me. And everyone thinks Math is such a lecher but he really is just a tattoo fancier and she had a very good top (chest covering tattoo).
Admittedly he might pronounce tattoo by replacing the ‘a’ with an ‘i’ but anyone can make that mistake. ;)
On another note: This attack would change the meaning of the phrase “giving him the Bird”…
My colorblindness prevents me from noticing this difference in color. No, I am not a mutated wolf.
Then it’s a good thing that panel had the little hearts everywhere. Kinda telling, color or no.
I wonder if this his how girls feels, when a super hero comic is comprised of a bunch of overpowered men, and women who are called strong, but are really just there for eye candy.
What about powerful women, and men who are only there for eye candy? I can only think of Charmed and (maybe) Buffy; I’d say Xena, but it had some rather useful prettyboys. I still can’t believe that Bruce Campbell used to be so GORGEOUS.
That was exactly what i was saying. Reading though this its kinda depressing how useless the men are (despite people saying they are strong) and i was wondering if that’s how chicks feel when the read comics and the women are only there to be saved or be a plot element. Its just depressing that so few comic actually have strong males and females, I was hopeful this would be one of them but its quickly becoming clear how lame all the guys are, just here to be saved or a romance partner.
well a lot of the problem comes in the fact main characters are all about stand in for reader wish fulfillment while second string characters are there to make the main characters look good.
and the simple fact is math is to far down the food chain to be a main character.
its hard to write truly strong second string characters without bring into why the other are really the main characters. a good example of this is wapsi square, were the side characters have taken over the show.
I don’t feel that way at all. The five main characters are the ones with their pictures on the masthead: Halo, Maxima, Dabbler, Anvil and Harem. They are the main characters, thus they should be getting the majority of the spotlight. Of these, Anvil’s a one-trick pony, and we’ve seen a fair bit of that trick, but there’s plenty left the other four can do. Secondary characters are primarily there to make the primary chars look good. Everyone hates it if Guest Star has to bail out Superman in his own comic, right? Don’t get so hung up on the gender line, is my advice. Of the guys, Hiro has been showing exactly why he is Max’s 2IC, and nothing has bothered Stalwart so far.
I think the only thing that is upsetting Stalwart is the fact that his suit has gotten trashed.
Math was in the same position as Dabbler was for a while, fighting someone equal to his skill. Math started off the fight with 4 takedowns in rapid succession (or at least 3 plus one good hit against Concretia) Dabbler got caught fighting against Heavenly and is now catching up to Math’s drop count. Hiro was doing ok for himself until he started fighting Boilerplate. Max took that guy off his hands and he racked up 3 drops in one attack.
But yeah the main characters are the ones in the title bar so they’re usually going to get the bulk of the focus.
What do you mean ‘used‘ to? He still is, just a bit more rugged
Odd, but I just noticed something: I have yet to see a Yorp comment on either this or the last comic. I do hope he’s alright and that nothing nefarious has befallen him.

We have a Yorp sighting!
Every time I look at panel 8 I hear the announcer from Mortal Kombat yelling “K.O.” “WORTH IT!”.
Non-standard Babality!
