Grrl Power #202 – Nose boop. OF DOOM!
This outcome is a little predictable, but only if you know what Anvil’s powers are, which haven’t actually been stated in the comic yet. Her ability to absorb kinetic energy combined with her grappling skills makes her incredibly well suited to fight other strong arms and bricks. As some people suggested on the prior page of comments, it would have been funny if this guy wasn’t actually a brick, but had some other powers and just happened to be a roided out bodybuilder, but Anvil needed a moment to shine I thought.
This page is a double because small action doesn’t look good, but I don’t want to “split the clause” and spread out a big paneled page into two posts if I can avoid it. I may have to a few times just because of the complexity of some of the scenes, but I’d like to avoid that as much as possible.
You guys are awesome, Grrl Power is on to the final 4! We’re up against MonsterKind, which is quite a nicely drawn comic. If we make it past them, we’ll be at the finals, I assume up against Ava’s Demon, which swept the tournament last year, though the readers over at Paranatural could rally. I definitely need to find some time to read those. Remember, you vote using the checkboxes under the brackets, not any of the links within the brackets.
<– I’m set up over at Patreon! Would you like to know more?
Dang it Anvil, they were just saying you’re not supposed to send villains through walls!
So she launched him through the roof and right into his “buddies”. I put it in quotes because nobody even tried to help him.
EVERYBODY COME BACK TO CHECK THE SITE AGAIN TOMORROW FRIDAY, PLEASE.
It could be possible Grrl Power made it to the Tournament’s semifinals, if so, you could give it the winner vote. Check the comic on friday evening.
KEEP CHECKING.
It seems possible the results will not be out today. I suggest keep checking the comic or the tournament site over the weekend just in case. We do not knows when the semifinal will start.

Just a quick update: The final four are now up and ready to be voted on. Grrl Power is up against Monsterkind…

THANK YOU!
Is the lady nosebleed guy ( I hope we get a real name for him soon) one of the other villans, or is she a civilian and part of the wait staff?
“Is the the lady he flying over” is what I forgot to put in my last comment.
She’s dressed in street clothes that have a sort street fighter (not the game) feel to them, probably a cape/super
Also, take a closer look at her head band, the decal is a bomb
Looks more like a bird to me.
Yeah, a stylised eagle, or Thunderbird (just finished going through the Marvel Superhero Figurine collection, and just got to Thunderbird, and her bandana kinda reminds me of what he used to wear)
Take a closer look underneath APB (Ambulatory Punching Bag) in the last panel, you can clearly see a hedge row, so she is not just on the street but some distance from the former location of the Steakhouse
A very interesting design. It could certainly be an anarchist’s device, hiding in plain sight, as it can be taken as being a bomb. But it can also look like a raindrop, surrounded by an abstract design. So it has plausible deniability.
To me, though, she looks like the nice kind of girl that might take a dog for walkies. So, until proven otherwise, she is an innocent bystander who needs protecting.
*enters guard stance*
Grrrrrrr!
Agreed, looks like an old-style bomb.
She reminds me of Jenna Marbles. “The F-Bomber!”
If any it looks like an atomic bomb to me, no other one have that proportions: Fat Man
And if it is a stylization culd be whatever: https://1.bp.blogspot.com/_Puf1IkqhDdo/S1WoK9s-SLI/AAAAAAAAAS8/J58frxJP2iw/s400/f18ef_load.jpg
Maybe she calls herself “Bombshell”? :D
… Damn.
I want that superpower now.
You are not the only one. Check out page 1 of the comic. Sydney’s own gaming character is Omnigal. Who has the power to absorb and re-direct any kind of energy. So Sydney was being really cunning and incorporating all the versatility of Anvil’s powers within a larger concept. No wonder her games master was having problems with her overcoming his super-villain.
I don’t think that was the reason though.
She simply smashed up the rules and applied real world logic to it.
Which, incidently, is exactly what this comic is doing to general superhero rules
I had a Character in a superheroes tabletop who could do somewhat the same thing, she could absorb store and redirect Kinetic energy, best use of her power in my opinion was when I travel across the country like the Hulk, she also had minor invulnerability and tumbling so she could “catch” something and wing it back at the adversary…Soo much fun.
Fond memories of my first character in the ‘Champions’ rpg. Name of Backlash, whose basic power was being able to soak up major energy attacks without so much as blinking, absorb them, and fire them back. He could also “recharge” by sticking his finger into a wall socket or whatever.
Physical-based attacks were something he could not absorb, however. That was why he spent the points early on for some body armor – and tended to hide behind the party’s Brick.
Good times.
So his punches are like butterfly farts. https://www.grrlpowercomic.com/archives/231

Those last few panels are my new favorite thing on the internet.
Was anybody else suffering from “Server could not find page’ errors when trying to access Grrl Power earlier? For an extended time, I was unable to get to any page, be it the home or one of the archive pages I have bookmarked. Yet I was having no trouble calling up any other websites, like current news.
It made me worried that the comic had been targeted by a distributed denial of service attack or some other hack. Prior to that period, I had received the odd one or two ‘server unavailable due to high demand’ errors. But, looking for a non-conspiracy option, those could simply have been due to demand from curious voters checking us out. However they would be characteristic of a DDoS attack too. Although the other message would not, it was a worrying pattern, to say the least.
I remembered the fact that somebody had tried to affect the site last year, likewise when in the middle of the final stages of voting in the competition. So I was concerned that there might be something malicious going on.
i was earlier too! had me worried O_O’ i thought it was my puter having a break down but i guess not *phew*
Yes, it happened this morning for me too.
Damnit, Anvil, one bad guy in and you’ve revealed that you don’t need to throw punches to break people. Sell it!
Like, 4 pages ago i was all like, “If i made a superhero, their power would be absorbtion, amplification, and redirection of energy” Not Kinetic energy specifically, but including that. Thought i was being so original…. Just read Anvil’s Bio…. I’ma…. i’ma go sit in my corner now
Strong guy from X-Factor has been around since 1985.
https://marvel.wikia.com/Guido_Carosella_%28Earth-616%29
He absorbs kinetic energy as well and channels it into strength, but has to discharge the extra energy within 90 seconds. with enough energy, he can go toe to toe with the hulk.
So nope, you’re not an original…. :-P
Years earlier there was Sebastian Shaw, so not even original, original.
https://marvel.wikia.com/Sebastian_Shaw_(Earth-616)
the Superhero genre has its own modified version of Rule 34 – if a superpower can be imagined, it’s already been made into a character. (AND there’s also probably porn of it)
I would not be too worried about that. It is more important to use your imagination, than to worry if someone has had similar thoughts in the past. There are seven billion people on the planet, and the super hero genre has been in existence for decades, gaining world-wide exposure. Even though only a fraction of the population will be into the genre, there will still be masses of people who have thought of different powers. Many of which will have been published or described for games.
None of which detracts from the validity of the power-set you conceived. It is an interesting one, as we can see here.
It is important for folks to utilise their imaginations. It keeps folk’s brains stimulated in day to day lives. Plus imagination is the breeding ground for new creative talent. And it develops skills that may well be of vital use in life. You may be the person who has a truly creative thought, at the right time for it to be of use. If others have thought something similar before, but failed to act on it, then they become irrelevant. But if you do, then it makes a difference to the world. So carry on exercising your imagination and don’t be self-conscious worrying about originality.
It’s not what you come up with that is as important as how you utilise it
Exactly. It’s FAR more fun to find imaginative ways to use weak or common powers. That’s why I was hooked on Worm and the Railgun manga.
The best characters find ways to use their powers invisibly so opponents misconstrue what their powers actually are.
Or do not even know that they have any. Luck and psionics are both good for that, depending on how discreetly they are used.
If you came up with it yourself, it counts as original.
As long as the first original doesn’t have copyright and you’re making money of it XD
Lessee…There is also Winter, from Stormwatch, back in the 90’s, as well as Union. Both had the ability to store and toss around all forms of energy. Kinetic, Gravitic, Heat, Light, whatever. Hell, Winter ended up as the core of a sun, as he went bugnuts and was needed to keep the darn thing running. >.> Oh! Apollo of the current Stormwatch, and our good ol’ pal Supes, also absorb energy. Solar energy. :)
Umm, doesn’t pretty much everyone absorb, to one degree or another, Solar Energy?
+1
It just tastes much better than it feels. Sure soaking up a few rays is ok. But it is so much better if captured in meaty form and served with onions, mustard and ketchup.
Or slab grilled with Worcestershire sauce and seasoning salt and maybe some butter to baste it.
or with just lettuce and tomatoe
Now the question we all wanna know is:
Did she manage to knock his socks off!?
(She for sure didn`t knoch any sense into him, that would be a total impossibility.)
Also: why does she actually move a bit with the punches if she can take all kinetic energy out of them?
I reckon it’s because her reacting as if they were soft taps is even more insulting than doing a total no-sell, which might have caused him to stop and rethink his strategy. And the more insulted this guy gets, the harder he’ll try to punch.
Maybe a instinctive reflex (she is human after all), or a precaution not knowing guys actually powers, or just an artistic choice :)
Anyway she reacted only at the first punch, all the others she took them absolutely steady.
There’s still a fist in her face.
I’d say it’s more analogous (it’s not perfect, but kind of conveys the idea I want to get across) to the reason why the rotor of an induction motor cannot move at the same speed as the stator’s magnetic field. Basically, she’s absorbing kinetic energy, which requires motion. Assuming she can only absorb a percentage of the KE of a given mass (apparently a really high percentage, but 100% absorbtion would do things to physics I don’t want to contemplate) she could slow it down (and down and down) but never bring it to a complete stop. This might also leave her vulnerable to be crushed or squeezed, it would just take longer.
I’ll bet his shoes are still there in the room but Mythbusters tried VERY hard to knock the socks off and came to the conclusion that the force required would be fatal long before the socks came off.
There are still a few questions about Anvils powers. For example, is there a limit to how much kenedic force she can absorb? Does it have to be a certain type of kenedic energy? And how much can she absorb before she turns into a human grenade?
Still that ability of hers wouldn’t save her if her enemy had gravity powers. Making her one big beautiful sitting duck. Or if someone with magnetic powers did the same coin trick that Magneto did in the movie. HEEHEE!
And as usual Max’s stance on things is always awfully convenient for her. “Make shore not to fire recklessly and avoid collateral damage. But when it does happen it’s a write off so don’t sweat it.”
THAT’S why it’s better to be a villain. Cool hideout, lackeys to do almost all you’re work for you, and no one bitching about PR or collateral damage bull.
Fortunately this guy looks like he can take a hit, and there are still plenty of bad guys there ready to jump in.
The room was a write off because of the dude putting a big hole in the roof, not from anvil flinging him back through it. wouldn’t cost much more to repair it because they would most likely have had to rebuild the wall to make sure it was structurally sound.
Max’s warning to Sydney was
‘make sure you don’t ruin innocent people unless you absolultly need to’
There is 0 chance that you can fight a super fight without getting stuf messed up. Just make sure you don’t destroy anything more than you need to
Stuff like that isn’t always so manageable though. Better to just beat the enamy first and worry about collateral damage latter/never.
I’m just waiting for that invisible guy to pop up again and just casually take someone out.
That would be very ill-advised of him. His job is covert operations. If anybody outside of Archon even suspects his existence, or learns of his capabilities, then his usefulness is diminished. This is a clear-cut Arc SWAT job not Arc Dark’s.
But, I take your point that it would be interesting to … ahem… see more of him. Unlikely that we will get much about him though, given the large number of heroes in the team already demanding more page time. And we know that the story will focus on Arc SWAT.
That said, we can always hope for spin-off stories, in the future. DaveB has created a rich setting here, with a lot of potential and tales begging to be told.
He is following dabbler so he will be around for when needed.
No doubt he will act when necessary and when no one will suspect such a person is around.
I suspect he is neither yellow or an android.
Do we even know yet whether ‘X’ is a ‘he’ or ‘she’ yet?
He sounded male to me. He really should not have followed Dabbler into the showers!
If he’s a good Spy (TF2 reference) it wtll seem like someone else did it preferably a bad guy.
What are you talking about? He has been in dozens of the comics over the last year or so. You haven’t seen him? Then maybe you need to order your very own pair of Grrlpower X-Ray Specs (™).
Operators are standing by. Please allow 4 to 6 weeks for delivery. (not responsible for any insanity brought about by accidentally seeing ancient demons from other dimensions)
Shhh! If he listens through the 4th wall, he will be hurt that we have spotted him. I mean, that he might have been present in certain scenes. Not that I am implying anything suspicious about the localised reduced moisture content in any high humidity scenes, we may or may not have seen.
when you have to do a two page spread you can do what Girl Genius does and put in a link when both pages have been uploaded that shows the spread in all it’s complete glory.
Yes, that (still love that one 2-page spread that almost looks 3d)
Maxima is like: “Nah, bitch… Told you!”
I have a question for Dave B, not sure if it’s been asked before. Obviously Archon’s training would include supers learning how to control their powers, that’s a public safety no-brainer. That said, it’s pretty much guaranteed that there will be individuals with superpowers who don’t wish to become military. So my question is: would Archon still offer control training to civilians? Or is there a civilian agency who would offer something like that?
What about counseling? We’ve seen that Maxima once had an…..incident with her powers when she was at least a teenager, and I would bet that there was a point where she felt at least a little intimidated by herself and what she could do. And not two pages ago we saw Sydney having the exact same concerns. Superpowers are cool, everyone knows that, but not everyone is going to be lucky enough to have an accident limited to property damage. Accidentally blasting a hole in someone’s chest would be a very traumatic experience, and while regular therapy is all well and good, it would be far better if there was someone professional who could actually relate to that kind of situation.
Sure, if not Archon itself, maybe a side-division, Arc-Safe
Arc-Angel?
I would guess it’d depend on danger of the power involved, If your power is only flight, you’ll probably learn at least basic control and landing before you get out of your teens and using it stupidly will mainly only put yourself in danger. Emitting plasma blasts out of your rectum on the other hand is much more dangerous to both yourself and everyone around you.
Of course this is assuming that there’s NOT going to be a basic power safety instruction thing put into place like Gun Safety classes.
I don’t think there’s any basic instruction system in place for super powers.
Remember they are very rare.
On the other hand, I heard plasma beams out of your rectum are suprisingly common. I heard Taco Bell has been linked to that paticular power
I suspect that ‘superpower counselling’, like a lot of other super-related things, is only j-u-s-t getting a proper start.
May be any number of eager (and brave) individuals trying to get into that field – if only so they can write THE book on the subject and then reture rich’n’famous.
“retire”, that is. @#$%^ typos.
But for heaven sakes don’t let her do an Indian burn!
Ok, that has made me wince twice now.
just be glad it was not an eye doink
Your vote incentive… Her arms are too short for her stance.
Her back is slightly arched, thus raising her shoulders thus lifting the hands from off of the ground (also to to be forgetting that a human’s arms are not the same length as their legs)
They seems but according the basic proportionality scheme for the human figure the lenght of the arm and forearm is around the same the face each (check your’s :). Anvil’s are about right.
Hard to find womens with Anvil’s frame but check this: https://www.lessfatmoremuscle.net/wp-content/uploads/deadlift.jpg
Admittedly she looks a bit thicker than in comic.
What is this? “Insult Anvil Night”? First someone implies she is hiding something under her skirt (calling her a ‘Trap’), and now you are implying that Anvil makes Heatwave look smart :P
Nose boop.
OF DOOM.
T-SHIRT!!!!!
I love the comic, but… the image is broken for me! After the first row of panels, it’s blue and, until the last half of the last panels, the left and right halves are switched. I hope I’m not the only one with this issue, and I’m sorry that my first comment on such an awesome comic was a technical complaint!
Try hard refreshing the page, or clearing your cache, even aussie marsupials should not be denied the sight of the flying APB :D
Welcome out of the shadows, cute marsupial. Guesticus is right, in implying that there will be something wrong at your end, as it is displaying ok for everyone else.
The simplest solution is to press the two keys CTRL and F5, which will force the page to re-draw. That will almost certainly fix it. But don’t hesitate to shout if you carry on having problems.
It could also be a browser failure.
I forgot to comment.
The first panel is pretty good, especially Anvil, but I do not know, like Maxima’s drawing take it down to me somehow.
The central and last panels are AMAZING. Totally rules.
I can imagine a splash panel with those two side by side. It could work even as a banner.
Just a point of interest, there appears to be a bomb stenciled on the bandanna/headband of the detailed blonde. She could be a villain or a super-groupie.
That’d be interesting, if some of the ‘supers’ in the shadows are simply groupies XD
Darn it, I must have hit the new comment button, instead of replying to this one. It is the one below, referring to “Tallhyperboy”.
Does a corset count as kinetic energy? Hehe.
While waiting Tournament results (what takes them so long?) be aware of the second place at Top Web Comics. Such prominent position is an excellent promotion for the comic, attracting new readears and all that comes with that.
It would be great to keep it all along the month so keep voting as frecuent as you can, it is allowed to vote as much as once a day.
https://topwebcomics.com/vote/11940/default.aspx
Yea, Tallhyperboy picked that up too.
*points paw at top of page*
A fan of Maxima’s bigabadaboom? She would have to be a super-groupie to create or get hold of something indicative like that, track down the team’s off-duty location and get there, before they even eat their first course!
I hope Maxima likes her :)
Since ‘Person’ already commented on the orbbed shadowy person, I’m going to comment on the lady shadowy person wearing heels. HEELS. to a super fight. Okay, so she can dodge a flying Thunk-Lunk, so maybe she can fly, but still.
High heels are kind of a staple among the superheroine/villainess set, though.
With that said, I hate wearing heels for normal walking around, I couldn’t imagine wearing them in a fight.
Possibly it is American Maid‘s evil twin? She would be powerless without them.
Really? I cant see anyone’s feet in that shadow shot
What am I missing?
Last panel, near Big Guy’s thumb.
O damn
I completely missed those guys
Yeah, high heels have all sorts of problems in combat.
Except one thing. STOMPING damage with those things would be nasty.
Or with a thrusting kick. That might even constitute Impaling Damage.
…Now I need to get out the brain bleach, because I just envisioned Math wearing Stiletto Heels in combat…
Nah but he might wear Cockroach-Killers for the added toe damage.
Okay i think Anvil’s info tab should be updated with “Possess high resistance to attacks (because i doubt that kinetic absorption works differently for her than it was for Shaw from X-men) and ability to anchor herself to the ground” Or something like that =) Also is Maxima throwing something in her mouth? It’s hard to see =_=
If you can absorb the kinetic energy that’s directed at you, than by direct result, the punch does not have any impact. Because impact is a result of kinetic energy.
And by that logic, absorbing incoming kinetic energy makes one resistant to all kinetic attacks.
I wonder how she reacts to bullets. Is her absorbtion fast/passive enough to absorb/neutralize a sniper shot?
note to self Purchase Kinetic energy absorption. No bruises and broken noses.
Well i don’t know about long-range weapons, but machine guns and handguns are probably not an issue.
What i want to know is – is Anvil’s absorption ability have any limits in capacity or not?
The range of a missile aught not to be an issue. Unless her power is one that requires concentration to use. Which seems unlikely. But if so, an attack she did not see coming would bypass her defences.
Of course the payload would make a difference, * as a chemical or incendiary ones would be deadly, whereas a high-explosive would be a walk in the park.
* Unless you subscribe to the “kinetic energy includes thermal energy” argument. I don’t, but only because it is a way of keeping abusive players from exceeding implied limits to powers. Kinetic implies physical attacks. For game/story mechanic purposes, anyhow. If not from a physics point of view.
Even if she was able to absorb the kinetic energy of the heat that will only protect her against the conductive heat but not against the thermal radiation.
https://www.grrlpowercomic.com/archives/1271/comment-page-1#comment-63608
I just like seeing that Anvil is going with the anime tradition of calling her named attacks. So this is ‘nose boop’. Heh. Makes me wonder what ‘wet willy’ and ‘dutch rub’ are going to be like.
HAS NO ONE NOTICED THE BALL-WINGED VILLAIN IN PANEL 7?
Yes, lots of people.
A trick to check something quickly is load the comment pages and perform a search. For example try searching “wing” in first page of comments.
She’s got balls. XD
At least i think it’s a she.
Cannon balls.
She’s a Pandoran Siren!!
What is the Col. doing in panel one? Eating?
https://www.grrlpowercomic.com/archives/1271/comment-page-1#comment-63608
I wants a ‘copy-this-comment-url-link’ button to do that kind of link. Far too hard work the manual way. :-(
See the ‘#’ before the ‘Reply’ tag on the first comments? Use that (right click, Copy Shortcut)
Ahh, handy. Thanks! I had never spotted that before. At least it gets folks to the top of a thread, which is helpful in its own right. Maybe we can get something similar for replies too :)
*wags tail hopefully *
Think again.
My previous reply is stored in the system as “64146” and your one as “64239”. These are both unique and different to Pat‘s at the start of the thread. As Guesticus advises, we can now easily quote the latter only, by clicking on the “#” symbol. Doing so, the following appears in the browser address:
https://www.grrlpowercomic.com/archives/1271/comment-page-3#comment-63988
Which can easily be copied and pasted into another comment as a link. Whilst we can do something similar to obtain information on the other comments, with the reply button, it takes us off to another part of the screen, which is inconvenient in its own right. Worse, attempting to copy it will just create a broken link. As it is not formatted with such in mind.
Whilst it is possible to go into the RSS feed and hunt through that, to find the raw link, it is a very complex environment, that will confuse the average person, and is likely to hit various other problems.
As to why it would be nice to be able to quote a specific reply, rather than the top of a thread, it is simply because many of the conversations we have can be vast. So it is preferable to point at the exact reply you are referring to, than to get in the approximate area and then have to say “but down a dozen comments from there”.
So it is a matter of ease of use, rather than a fundamental issue. An expert can find a work-around. But it would provide access for other users, if there was a user-friendly option.
“had never spotted that before. At least it gets folks to the top of a thread, which is helpful in its own right. Maybe we can get something similar for replies too”
I was trying to trigger your memory :) Actually you already knew about the # link and also about how to link to a subcomment. I showed you it time ago :)
Yea, I had not forgotten about the sub-comment linking. But, even with the help of your tutorial, I was still making mistakes, more often than not. Mind you, it was a bit more complicated than the above, as we were dealing with embedding those links in text. Either way though, it would still be nice to have an idiot-proof way of doing it. Clearly there is a need.
Thank you for all the kinetic energy, but here, you can have it back.
Oh, did that hurt?
By the way Dave, I got the Starship Troopers reference. Nice one, sneaking it under the radar like that. :-)
Mmmm… Maybe my english is not good enough, could you explain?
Possibly it is co-incidental, as it seems totally innocuous, and in context, on its own. But knowing DaveB‘s liking of sliding a reference on the sly, I felt it likely. Each week he, wisely, changes the text that draws attention to the Patreon page. Including some complex ones. This week it is
Which is the used as the catchphrase link throughout Starship Troopers. Each time leading to some patriotic footage.
The ever changing advert text is similar to what Rickard Jonasson, of “Two Guys and Guy, does but for his Facebook page. As it was one of the adverts on Grrl Power* that made me read it, I feel happy recommending it. And it is both very funny and has some great, unusual, concepts. I particularly like the deadpan mad-scientist, Frank.
* The one with a girl in a bikini, on a beach, in animated heavy rain.
You mean “Guy in a bikini…” not just “a girl in a bikini…” :P
She is the one thing that I find a bit disappointing. She started out with a nice look, but got all shiny-faced, and gained some kind of nose-plug/stud. Which is a shame. But it does not detract from her character. Lucifer probably uglied up a bit when he fell from Heaven*.
* I bet he wished he went for kinetic absorption.
Nice :) I totally missed it when I saw the flick.
Thank you, I think you are right, it is surely intentional.
Now imagine what power that dude puts into his punches (especially after getting annoyed and with maybe a few off-screen punches) and how easily Anvil flips him off.
I imagine she’s got tons of power still stored.
That dudes needs to feel lucky she didnt knock his head off or sent him flying into orbit or through the ground/ a mountain. Please note the ‘through`.
I love that Anvil’s innate strength is only somewhat super, but she can pretty much hit back with her opponent’s strength. Makes for a nice counter against those with Maxima level strength. I was sort of wondering what her limits are on storing energy, that is in terms of time she can hold it, does it diminish on its own, and can she ration out the amount she releases.
That’s why she’s Maxima’s main sparring partner. And it is assumed that the energy she absorbs is either released in her next attack or slowly drains if she’s not using it.
why does this remind me of firefly/serenity…. T_T and good job of maxima having one heavy hitter vs another (Not so) heavy hitter
Maybe because the #2 is a kickass black woman? And Max did what Mal did in the bar, distracted him so Anvil could prepare to do her thing?
i’m a leaf on the wind……
yes!!!! i’m a leaf on the wind……
Well Big Dumb and Busted is a leaf on a Hurricane wind.
Rather hard to stop an opponent who can absorb you kinetic energy transfer so easily. Puts you at a distinct disadvantage if that is their power. I think I know how to stop them but it would be tricky.
Oh I can think of half a dozen ways to stop someone who can absorb kinetic energy which don’t require super powers.
Just dump a net over her. That will at least slow her down.
Lassoing her would also work. Hang her out to dangle once you do though.
Taser, just contact with the skin is enough if anvil does manage to absorb the impact damage.
Flash bang
Tear gas, pepper spray, mace, etc.
Pain ray (note experimental, requires a vehicle).
a gallon of oil on her feet
a word of advice go for pleasure not pain on the ray.
people don’t expect pleasure from an attack.
also it can be addictive
Less resistance to a pleasure attack, just partake in a tickle-fight to understand (if you are ticklish or it doesn’t work, although some don’t take kindly to being tickled and react disproportionately {and violently})
Some people actually pass out. There’s a video out there of a guy that does.
Well they haven’t figured out how to do that to people yet. The pain ray has been tested. The actual name is I believe assault intervention device, being manufactured by Raytheon
Yep. Loads of ways to bypass kinetic absorption. Anvil has a few additional edges mind. She has moderate super-strength, even without her kinetic boost. So could tear regular nets apart. And, when not dressed to eat out, she has full SWAT gear available. Including gas-masks.
The thick cloth of such uniforms would provide some protection from tasers too. Given that she need not bother with a bullet-proof vest, and has ample strength to spare any any event, she could certainly opt for a far thicker cloth than normal, which would be proof against regular tasers.
One of the reasons nets are a pain is that they limit movement unless completely removed. Yes she will tear through it but that takes time. And time is a very valuable resource on the battlefield.
There is a whole group of gasses that work by skin contact and that is before we get out of the riot control stuff into chemical warfare agents. You need full NBC cover to prevent absorption through the skin, though your suggestion of heavy clothing will delay the point where the skin gets exposed considerably where the clothing covers the skin.
There are less obvious ways to stop tasers then what you suggested (Carbon-fibre tape is much thinner, can be applied to clothing in such a way that it isn’t obvious that it has been added and conducts the taser instead of the human inside of the clothing). For this reason there are already tasers being tested that puncture a hole through clothing before applying the shock.

Halo has competition.
Off panel: a civilian who was severely injured when the building was first damaged, now killed by the shrapnel from that toss into the “already busted” building
Unlikely. At the start of ths party we saw the staff is reluctant to hang around the Arc SWAT folks. They are all back in or near the kitchen. Which I think the passageway is across the room from where the Easily Bruised Bruiser made his short, historic debut.
Food for thought: I would think that Dabbler would be able to design a harness that pounds the stuffing out of the wearer, namely Anvil. Given Anvil’s power-set, that would allow her to be “charged” prior to any hostilities actually breaking out. (Or Maxima could impart a rather potent punch of her own, or Dabbler could use that rail-gun, or there could be some other action from the team to that effect, but the “massage harness” would allow Anvil more autonomy when an obvious source is not available.)
Failing that, she could carry a few grenades around. She just needs to ensure she tops up in places where she can’t cause collateral damage.
If that was not an option she can charge up her kinetic battery, simply punching a wall or stomping on the floor. In physics terms there is no difference between you punching and someone else punching you. Not if you are only interested in the forces being imparted, as opposed to the reinforced nature of fists versus noses. She has moderate super-strength even without the kinetic powers. So should do a good job of converting stored chemical energy into stored kinetic energy.
Just noticed the current “now reading” link:
Great book, great series, great author. Just have to remember he has many series, all with rabid fans demanding new books, so each series gets attention in turn. I don’t recomment the Weber site forums unless you have plenty of time, mental fortitude, & some serious sci-fi nerd chops (they out-nerd us by at least 2 full pocket-protectors).
Pardon. “Recommend”
