Grrl Power #192 – Touching star
Another randomly double tall page because I couldn’t get the right sense of scale when I tried cramming Phenomenal Cosmic Star into itty bitty panels.
This Mitchell and Webb skit is directly responsible for the title of this page. BTW if you’re not familiar with them, there’s tons of Mitchell and Webb on youtube, whole episodes I think. They’re all quite good. They have another show which is on Netflix called Peep Show which I also recommend, especially if you like the sort of show where the characters are occasionally really horrible to each other a la It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. The hook of Peep Show is that the camera is always the POV of one of the characters, complete with internal dialog like I was wishing for in the post under the previous page come to think of it.
If you haven’t heard enough of me blabbing on about comic stuff, I was also a guest on the Webcomic Alliance podcast, which is primarily a podcast for webcomic creators as they spend most of their time asking and answering questions like what’s the best way to attract people to my booth at a con, how do I grow my audience, all that jazz. This particular episode is mostly a Q&A with me about Patreon.
<– Speaking of Patreon…
Ah the good old don’t cross the line warning. Maxima never disappoints.
Or she only does it for dramatic effect and tells her “dinner is served”
That would be a funny anti-climax to the mild cliff-hanger.
Or the next scene we see them eating and that’s it.
With great power comes great responsability
And some really cool effects!
Hmm I remember that “with great power comes great coincidence”.
or hot bedmates
Today on GrrlPower…
Sepia tone flashbacks, naked dream Sydney, and feels.
Naked dream Sydney has pink hair.
Does that mean she’s not a natural blond?
No, this means she is the main character. Everybody knows that the girl with pink hair is the main character.
And here I thought the comic was revolving around Sydney, not Peggy or Harem, but I do enjoy watch them too.
But both Peggy and Harem dye their hair pink whereas Soul-Sydney’s hair just shows that although Sydney’s blonde on the outside, she’s pink at heart.
Calling it now, one of the mystery orbs is going to unleash Sydney’s true self as a pink-haired Super-Saiyan.
Soul-me has scales, sharp claws, wings, a tail, is vast and breathes fire. Don’t mess with me on the Astral plane!
Interesting, that, given that I usually associate dragons with cats, not dogs…
Even dogs wonder what it is like to fly.
While soul-me is the gnat that breaks Godzilla’s jaw. ;)
Might as well say it. I’m just a big puppy, a big 500lbs puppy. :)
Soul me actually looks pretty normal, except for the eyes and wings…
Don’t have a Soul Me, Soul went on an extended leave of absence in ’86, didn’t manage to track down where it went until around ’98, and then severed the link as where it was was better (protecting/watching over someone from a previous life, severing the link meant both of us were safer: can’t backtrack in either direction, and the soul will return when it is no longer needed {truly hope that never happens at it will mean they are dead :(})
Not currently being inhabited by a soul sounds like rather a worrying condition.
Sorry about the delay in replying on that one. Past life experience is, I suppose, not dissimilar to my own experiences with precognitive dreaming. Just in the other direction in time. But throw in talk about souls along with it, and it gets a bit beyond my points of reference. In personal terms, rather than in general knowledge.
I threw it to my subconscious mind but, so far, it declined to offer up anything profound to say on the matter.
No, it just means that her being ‘naked’ isn’t really in the nude sense. Do you see a navel? Astral I suppose. Nice to see that Sydney can be thoughtful. Nice to see. Gives her some class.
I think it’s only an effect of the lighting, the red fire reflecting of her hair.
except the sun is actually green. really not kidding
*turns to waiter*
Two of whatever Terabiel is having please.
“Will you like a side with your two orders of colorblindness?”
Not far from the truth. Some people see one visual spectrum of color more then the others.
Yea, we were having a conversation about just that on an earlier comic. But I could not resist that line.
Although I was also wondering if there was a particular underlying scientific point being made, about the spectral emissions from corona or the like.
Ok, ok, at third reading I will bite :)
Wave frequencies emitted by the sun are not equally distributed. The distribution peak is approximately on the so called “visible light” (and probably that is why it is “visible”) and in particular in the “green” frecuency.
If the question is, what color (frequency) sunlight have more? the answer is “green”.
If the question is, what color we see the sunlight? the answer is “white”. Unavoidably because “white” is the illusion created by our brain to the total sum of visible light, which source was, for practically all of our evolution, the sun.
If the question is, what color the sun shows? The answer is: it depends. Mainly of the atmospheric conditions (dust, ice crystals) and the angle of incidence (sunset, noon). It could be mostly white, yellow, orange, red, slightly light blue, brown, even green.
*damn subconscious compulsive self-filling pit of irrelevant information*
Great to know that I see smarter people than myself. Its such a learning experience.
Please, do not confuse memory for intelligence ;)
And the plural sure doesn’t mean me, as I did not know about that. :-D
Intelligence is just having access to the right memory.
Ooh, ooh, in which case, allow me to access my external memory. NotFred, what do you think about that?
Man, the dude could really leave me hanging here. *holds up paw, hopefully, for a high five*
*”Don’t leave a sis… brother hanging”*
Well, In second thought, It seems kinda right, if not “just” at least “part of”, taking account that be able to select the relevants links IS considered “intelligence”.
Plus I think it is ok if you use it, I read somewhere that the developing of external lasting memory (books and the like) was the most important support to the “intelligence” of the specie, and if it is good to the specie… :)
Also, no topknot.
Always thought it was a pony-tail, she doesn’t look like a Kender (although, she does have the non-larcenous characteristics of one)
But, the reason why her hair is down, is because she is Astrally connected
Unless she’s really into shaving (or waxing) that’s her spirit not her naked body.
For that close, perfect shave you’ve always dreamed of, use PPO!
Make sure to apply Impervious™ shielding cream to skin to prevent nuclear radiation burning.
Maybe “naked ego Sydney” is better since it’s her mental representation of herself. There’s nothing really “dream”, astral, or spiritual about it. Well, I guess there could be, but not obviously.
I guess the line of thought is that your unconscious self-image would also be the one that your subconsciousness drew from for use in dreams. And that the other versions would follow on from that line of reasoning. Lucid-dreaming, vision-quests and prophetic trances having certain similarities, for example. Although you are perfectly right to say there is no reason that any need be linked at all.
Which makes me wonder how y’all view yourselves in dreams? I have good reason to believe that my dreams may be atypical, so it is not an idle thought, but something of genuine interest to me. Limiting it to dream where you have a sense of presence (‘this is me doing this’), as opposed to ones where you feel you are a spectator. Do you visualise yourself at all? Do you tend to have a simplified version of yourself, like Sydney above? Or an idealised version? Or do you get the weird stuff a lot and find you are something like a tomato?
….if that’s true my astral self would be an ever changing chaos shape XD My dream-self is not at all consistent, unless you’re talking about the dreams that verge closest on reality. But then, I have been informed multiple times that people rarely have as solid, vivid, detailed, or as many dreams as I do. They’re ALWAYS in color. I have all my senses in them – occasionally more senses than this pitiful human form does. Every dream comes with a complete world, including languages, cultures, its own form of physics etc, and the knowledge of such that would be expected for the stage of life ‘I’ am at, including memories of said life – that sometimes cover thousands of years, though it’s more frequently only a matter of decades. I am as likely to be male as female in my dreams, or even some third or fourth unknown-in-our-world gender. Human? Sometimes. I’m as likely to be a centaur or icarii or teddy-bear-shaped alien (or a few hundred other things). I’m almost never aware it’s a dream, unless I’m starting to wake up, but I am self aware (of myself as whatever ‘character’ I am, anyway) and control my own actions within the natural limits of my form, much as if it was reality. And it FEELS real.
I don’t always remember it as clearly as I’d like – it depends in part on how quickly I wake up. But when I have the presence of mind to note things down on waking, I write a few pages of jumbled-looking notes that are more key bits to make me remember the rest than a proper documentation. Because with those ‘keys’, I still remember as much of that massive pile of info as I managed to connect. Cultures, legends, events, people and their histories, countries and their histories, geography…
I don’t bother writing it down much anymore, mainly because I already have enough of those that I could spend my life writing stories based on them if I wanted to.
Same here, a lot of the times would feel like Doctor Sam Beckett, only didn’t have Al to help me :(
Have actually met 2 people from the dreams in RL (not in person though): first was someone last encountered at least two lifetimes ago (she remembered the last time we met, and… let’s just say she ended up in a place she should not have been put, because of me :(), the other was a nice lady who was attempting to teach me how to control dream abilities (didn’t work too well: every time entering the Dream World would be like the first time as would forget everything from last time)
Interesting. I haven’t encountered people I’d only met in dreams – but I have had other connections with reality, such as events from the closer-to-real-life ones occurring later in real life, an in elementary school I had a few dreams with a friend where she had the dream too (we discussed the next day on the bus).
I don’t often return to the same ‘world’ in my dreams – there is one that recurs, consistently timed every few years (I can change what I do, but not the events unfortunately. Earthquakes are a tad beyond my control), and a couple that I revisit every few years where it seems only a few months have passed there, but usually it’s a new world each time.
I used to have dreams of things happening in the playground the following day, which came true. But really boring, trivial stuff, just not worth talking about. So, unlike you, I do not recall chatting to friends about it. Which is not to say that I did not, just that not being about anything particularly profound it would not stick in the memory down through the years.
I did used to be absolutely terrified of nightmares though. Which, if you think about it, would likely be even more frightening for somebody who was used to dreams coming true on a daily basis. It used to be very disruptive for my family. I can remember my breakthrough moment though. When I managed to recognise the distinction between nightmare vs normal/prophetic ones.
So does my mum, and the rest of the family, because I was shouting out at the top of my voice, “Mum, mum, wake me up, I am having a nightmare!” Shortly afterwards I learnt how to manage it myself.
As regards meeting people from the dreams there was one, and only one where that happened. Although it was a recurring dream that I had many time over a number of years. Taking more than a decade before it finally came true. On a different continent.
It was in a classroom that I had never seen. Talking to people I had never met. In a language that I did not speak*. Yet, despite this, I knew who the people were. That boy is the school bully. That is the pretty girl I have a crush on, and so on. Likewise I could understand what the words meant, and the fact that we were in a classroom learning that language.
Perhaps a decade after first having the dream, I finally found myself in the school. And started to meet the people who would be in that classroom. The frequency of the dream stepping up a lot just prior to it coming true. And it was fascinating, because I had stopped having any other dreams like this since I was a young child. So it was my first opportunity to experience the situation with an analytical mind.
I knew every nuance of the scene. Who would say what. Every line of dialogue. Including the part that I would play. And the fact that if I did, I would get a congratulatory smile from the pretty girl and an enthusiastic response from the teacher. Sadly I let my ego get to my head and followed the script. So, to this day, I cannot say for certain if I could have changed the future that I saw.
* Or even recognise. I spoke English, Afrikaans, Zulu and several other tribal languages. I had no experience with French at all, which is what it eventually turned out to be.
Oh, I didn’t talk about the precog dreams in elementary school – the ones discussed on the bus were the ‘shared’ dreams. The precog dreams are, as you said, generally trivial – and at least for me, well-night impossible to tell from the ‘takes place in a world very similar to this one’ ones. And unfortunately, the USEFUL ones I usually don’t recognize as precognitive until too late. The sole exception being one of receiving a popquiz back with an A+ – you can bet I rehearsed those correct answers on waking! And since the quiz was the next day, naturally I aced it. But usually they’re months or years ahead of time, and unlike you, I don’t get repeats.
You can rest assured that if mine are any indicator, you CAN change things, if you recognize the opportunity in time. I have at least twice paused mid-sentence as I realized that I’d dreamt this and knew the whole conversation already, told whoever I was talking to (close enough friends not to think me crazy), and we laughed and moved onto another topic (upon verifying that yes, that’s how they would likely have responded if things had continued on the original path). This is dependent on recognizing things in time though…I’m particularly beating myself up because if I’d recognized a particular snapshot-precog as ‘possible’ at the time, I might have been able to prevent my divorce, since the dream was a good year before the topic even came up.
Yea, I followed that yours were shared rather than precog. But, given that a fair number of folks reading this would be thinking ‘weird’, it would be nice to say “aha, but I have this witness who I told about this before it happened, and they will corroborate that I am not just getting a ‘deja-vu’ feeling”.
I have also known somebody with similar experiences to mine who was able to stop her husband from getting a serious injury. But there is a difference in evidence. She is somebody who I trust as I know her to be both honest and intelligent. And, most importantly, soundly grounded. Hence why I choose to believe her. And thus my view is that destiny is changeable.
But that is not the same as being absolutely certain, as I am for the fact that pre-cognitive dreaming is real. And a vast difference for anyone who has not shared any of the experiences which we apparently have. In that they have nothing more than anecdotal evidence should we try to convince them.
In fact I even doubted my own experiences, up until that last came true. Dreaming that you are going to do something that you typically do in a school environment is hardly convincing evidence, after all. It is only the repeated correct observations which give it merit. And that can be put down to a number of factors, like forgetting when they do not come true. The kinds of things that allow folks to believe in horoscopes, for instance.
Nice to have your comments to back up the others that I have had in the past though. It is good to chat with folks who have closely overlapping experiences. We all tend to be discrete about unusual experiences like that. Although, if folks open up, you usually find that most people have at least one thing in their life that society has issues with explaining.
Very few people I have discussed this with have admitted to such experiences occurring prior to meeting me. They do accuse me however of attracting such phenomena XD My entire extended family is prone to these things, on a level that gets very hard to deny, unless you’re being willfully blind. Kinda hard to ‘explain away’ your brother turning on the kitchen faucet from across the room and spraying your mom (who was five feet away from the sink) with it. Or quoting back a whole paragraph of thoughts from a friend’s head.
Gotta love the internet, making it possible to find people with similar experiences, all from the lively hiding place of semi-anonymity so you don’t get hauled off to the loony bin…
Yeah, have dull ‘pre-cog’ dreams all the time: because they are dull, everyday events, rarely know they are pre-cog until they happen, have commented when it happens for real that dreamt it some time ago (there was even one pcd* that included that ‘dreamt this happening before, including saying that’ moment)
Had one dream back in Primary/Elementary School: was racing a class mate after recess back to class, went around the corner and crashed into a younger kid. The weird thing is: the only memory of the event is from the dream (the ‘real’ event seems to have been blocked)
*pre-cog-dream
I don’t have pre-cog dreams but I have had Lucid dreams where I know I’m dreaming and can shape the the dream in whatever way I desired though it usually doesn’t last long because either wake up or I drift deeper into sleep and lose control. However it can be quite fun when it happens which is unfortunately rare.
I can keep it up for hours. Especially if having a lucid dream.
It might have something to do with my ADD. Not sure.
As for why you stopped having them – if my family is an indicator, that could be your own fault, in a way. You know how if you go to jump over something, and really believe you can’t, then regardless of physical ability you won’t be able to? Same thing. As we grow up we keep getting told certain things aren’t possible, until we (most of us anyway) believe it well enough that we just stop being able to because we think we can’t. I mostly escaped that – weird family and all – but my brother didn’t, and he’s lost most of his early abilities.
*strangles the scientific community for refusing to properly, seriously study paranormal phenomenon*
I remember very few dreams upon waking nowadays, but I gather that is fairly true of most people. Given how badly I was affected by nighmares as a kid, I can see why I would have blocked off my dreams even more than normal.
Sometimes I do remember on waking though, and often have a pad to hand in case there is anything inspiring*. But infrequently enough that I get out of the habit.
* But not to catch any pearls of prophecy. If I did still have those dreams, I would be most interested if winning lottery numbers popped up in a dream, after all.
But then I would be torn with a dilemma. Which is best to do, follow the dream script up until the draw takes place. Thereby ensuring you get the winnings. Or do you break the script and say to your mate, or the world at large, “Today’s lottery numbers will be…” and thereby alter the butterfly effect and no longer end up with you actually winning!
I’d go ahead and win the lottery, in today’s society – fewer lawsuits that way. And you know there’d be lawsuits if you tried the latter route.
As for memory of dreams – I remember well enough that I COULD write them down if I chose to about 3-5 times a week(though as mentioned earlier, the vast majority are not precognitive), which is admittedly still a comedown from teen years and earlier (then it was more like two or more dreams a night that I remembered clearly). Interestingly, though, many of my dreams from childhood I remember more clearly than the ‘real’ memories – enough so that I occasionally have to call my parents and double check for the ones that were similar enough to our world. Though, that’s probably in part because I have a very bad memory in general, and a fairly good memory for dreams. I think they get stuck in my brain’s ‘trivia’ folder or something.
Though. I’m not sure I have any dreams that qualify as ‘normal’ by most people’s standards. I have woken up with lesser versions of wounds received in dreams more than once (I know the standard explanation. It doesn’t work for ones in places I can’t reach.) and I have a scar on my knee from childhood that can ONLY be explained by the events of a dream (no major injuries their in real life. At all.) So my running theory on the non-precognitive dreams (they are all pretty active, battles and what not – yes I have died in my dreams, many times, I obviously don’t die in real life but nonetheless the sensory deprivation is thoroughly unpleasant) is …somewhat complicated, and involves alternate universes and analogs (versions of myself in those universes). Aaand well-nigh impossible to prove at our current level of technology.
Easy for you to say, given that you have had experience with changing destiny first hand. But for me I would end up rich but still not having certainty about pre-destiny! So, even though it is in all likelihood only hypothetical in my case, it would still be a dilemma.
Knowledge being far more interesting to me than wealth. Although, I guess, the latter would allow me to stop keeping an eye open for serving suggestions for fresh local mouse.
Just so long as the NSA and GCHQ do not get the mandate to do just that, we will be fine. :-D
Have died a ‘true’ death a couple times in dreams, both times was to sever connection or be trapped for ever in the dream world (one of them, ripped open the veins in upper inner thighs, could feel the blood flowing out and extremities going cold and then no feelings, woke up expecting to have had an ‘accident’ but was dry)
*by ‘true’ death, mean that that persona died ‘for real’: didn’t see a bright light in a tunnel, but did experience fading vision and ultimate peace
I had one recurring nightmare where I almost died. It would be of me in a shopping maul we often went to. I was on the top floor, peering down over the balcony into the courtyard a number of stories below. I always woke up just an instant before hitting.
It remains in my memory for a couple of reasons. Firstly, because it happened often enough, it was the one that allowed me to figure out the difference between a precog dream and a nightmare (or regular dream). The trouble being that if your mind is saying ‘this is me in the situation’ then it does not matter how incongruous the scene is, you feel that you genuinely are there. It is ‘real’. And nothing about the situation feels odd (until you wake up, obviously).
But it was the level of clarity in a precognitive dream which made the difference. Especially ones that you had the opportunity to pay close attention to the details, because they were recurring. You can smell the chalk. You can see the dust. You have subtext knowledge (you ‘know’ what just happened and can examine any of your recent memories).
That nightmare lacked the details. Normally your mind fills it in, but examining it, I noticed that the people in the arcade were just a blurry impression. No faces or particular clothes. The rail was focussed, but seemed to vanish (no detail of climbing over, or the pressure of the railing on the stomach) just approaching it then ‘cutting’ to looking down and then falling.
The other reason is that one time I did hit the ground, and suffered incredible agony! Except what had actually happened is that I had jerked myself awake, just before the end, as normal to escape a nightmare. But at the time had been convalescing from a badly broken arm. Which, falling out of bed, I landed on, re-breaking it!
You should really stop going to mauls. You know somebody always gets hurt :P
Dream self? Well, I’d rather start with the “self” that I see as the real me at this moment. She’s a wonderful little girl age around five, although she’s finally been growing a little and the last time I saw her was in the 7-8 range. That’s who I am when I decide I need to escape reality completely during particularly painful events. As far as dreams, I guess I didn’t consider mine dreams, but I’m told that they’re lucid dreams that I tend to experience every morning. Essentially I’m the main character in a movie, so setting varies a lot depending on my mood and influences. That also means form varies, although being me, I don’t think I really see what I look like. It’s kind of irrelevant to most people, no? Anyway, the reason I never considered them dreams was that I tend to be laying in bed living through the movie, completely aware of everything that’s around me and going on and deciding to keep laying there, to the point of being able to go back into it later, and in some cases continuing it in fantasy form throughout the day or several days. Other than those, I only remember one piece of one dream from when I was young and it was scary. Basically a terrifying skull/face and while that’s not particularly terrifying in itself, somehow or other it is associated with terror in my mind, so that’s what it is :)
Fascinating. Thank you. I just love lucid dreaming myself, and wish it happened more often!
Me too! Often have dreams that start out as though watching a TV show or movie, then gradually ‘fading in’ until actually one of the ‘characters’, not always the main character, but often one of the primary ‘cast’
“naked dream Sydney and feels?”
I’m getting some very inappropriate visuals from that.
Now with 100% extra comic, FREE!
x2 for Mitchell and Webb. Anthing with David Mitchell in it is usually gold. There’s tons of great stuff on YouTube if you do even minor search for his name. He has some hillarious rants
My favourites are the Good Samaritan and the Grammar Nazi.
Now that she mentions, the blast she released did look a lot like a solar flare.
Maybe that’s how it works. It actually creates a wormhole between the orb and a star.
Somewhere, out in the void of space, is an alien species that is confused by the waves of light and naked women who regularly appear near their sun.
XDD Maybe they think it’s a natural phenomenon? Like some sort of peculiar solar prominence?
And they’re right. Sydney IS a force of nature, after all.
and they worship the mysterious biped being that floats above naming it (after translation) beautiful power with it being the ideal form to aspire to……. syd should move there.
I think she already has. If you look in panel 5, you will see that there are two of her!
(Just kidding by the way, it is clearly a way of progressing the scene, without the intrusion of a frame to break up the image. And very cleverly done, if I may say so. One more inspired idea on top of all the others on this page.)
Except the energy released would be insanely radioactive, deadly to almost all except immune superheros.
Maybe that is why the orb has a warm up delay. As a safety the orb takes time to filter the radiation out of the energy and make it safe to use in the environment its being used in.
Big solar flare, lotsa radiation. Teensy solar flare, say smaller than Earth, maybe not so bad. Regardless, let us hope mystery orb number 1 provides radiation negation capability for the area. Perhaps that is why it woke up and is now twinkly on the skill tree?
You remind me of a video of a demonstration in a solar research lab, where a mere 1-square-meter of sunlight burned a hole in a block of steel – by getting focused down to a pin-point. My point being that perhaps the PPO’s energy-requirements may be surprisingly small:
1)__open a mini-wormhole in a star’s corona.
2)__harvest the plasma from a solar flare.
3)__focus the energy into a coherent beam.
4)__turn it loose upon the target.
…this might even explain its “star sapphire”-appearance – it may function as both a wormhole-portal & a lens, much like the ruby lens we use to focus a conventional laser. Maybe even a filter – to screen-out the more harmful wavelengths of radiation.
(…or perhaps using those dangerous, high-energy wavelengths to fuel this process!)
I also wonder if the “safety-trigger”-effect might become more pronounced as the orb “levels-up”, & becomes more destructive…?
I had assumed that the ‘wheel’ of upgrades coming off the PPO were for things such as the shape of blast that it could emit. Assuming that the two filled in represent straight line blasting range. Others being a cone or sphere as examples.
But running with your hypothesis, they could actually be much more profound. The two lit up just being the ability to open a connection to a star. The others might be for different sources. Say a black hole. Or the ocean in an anti-matter world. Or the pasture lands of multi-coloured ponies!
Your comment just got me thinking in a new direction…
In Larry Niven’s “Man-Kzin Wars”, we learned that any reaction-drive (whether solid-fuel, Bussard ramjet, etc.) of any design will always be a weapon, in direct proportion to its efficiency.
“So what?”, you ask…
So, what if the PPO was never designed as a weapon?
– Perhaps it was designed to broadcast a message across interstellar space, & the output required to keep a message read-able across such a distance just happens to be lethal across sub-orbital distances?
– Perhaps it uses wormhole-technology as a “portal”-type transportation system between worlds, & the previous owner left it connected to a star’s corona as an =IMPROVISED= weapon!
These are just the initial 2 possibilities that hit me – I’m sure you might concoct others.
Like panel 8? With four possible improvised uses in the final panel here.
Maybe you would like this old, and old fashioned, little piece of science fiction :)
I remember reading that story long ago!
Thanks for the memory-jog!
In reply to this post, pickle3719 sugested that the PPO could be tapping the Sun.
There’s also the possibility that it contains a star, in the same way the TARDIS contains an exploding star in the process of becoming a black hole.
(geek moment)
Which begs the question, just how powerful can Sydney get with time, experience, and concentration?
Time and experience will tell. Concentration, as most people use the word, will likely always be problematic.
Well unless they changed it the star/black hole is on Gallefry under the Panopticon. And it requires the presidential rod to acsess and the presidential sash to protect you from all that energy. To bad the sash was damaged.
Maybe that scene actually happened! Or maybe that’s where the orbs were made! Or maybe that was inside the orbs, and that’s their power source! Or maybe that was just a cool and clever way of visually explaining something. So many possibilities. :)
Yes.
… And maybe not.
Only if you believe in Fate. An inescapable, unchangeable destiny. Sadly, I had the chance to definitively prove it, to myself at least. But failed to grasp the opportunity when it arose. But, none-the-less I choose to believe that the future is not immutable.
Well, you know what they say; “with great powers, comes a plethora of cliches”
lovely art of this page
And if you don’t catch it the first time don’t worry, Maxima will say the line over and over again :P
Like the song says. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rmFZhNqg_2w
In flashbacks ala Ben Kenobi’s ghost, because she’s going to die in the first major fight because she’s the skilled mentor.
And Max will be Max, even during her tender moments. Guess that comes with being a commanding officer.
I wonder if we should take the power of a star as the current level of the PPO, or if that is what it can turn into when completely maxed out. Either way, that is a lot of power for one person to have, no wonder that Max feels the need to give an additional warning on top of it all to keep her from misusing the PPO.
Given that her possible threat level rose from “mostly harmless” in the bank, to “may blow up the Archon building” later and now is implying “could scorch all life from Earth”, I feel that re-emphasising safety is a reasonable step to take.
it… kinda looks like dream-syd’s touch calmed the star, somehow… the area ‘inside’ the radius of the efft of her touch seems less turbulent. Maybe I should just go to bed…
Lol I could understand the electric jolt from the earlier mini comic but I have to say that even tough it’s more cryptic, touching a star is way more dramatic and poetic. Nice touch Dave ^_^.
Also I think that’s the closest Sidney ever came to true fan service lol!
Finally…. Argh damn you putting. Cliffhanger on this! Geh maxina’s next line better be epic buster ; )
Awesome arts, awesome story and depiction. You deserve all the patter. You can get and, most certainly, your place on top webcomic. Com…
It’s actually a wonder how you haven’t got first place yet, I mean number one barely updates, his art is , no offense, not as good as yours( at least in my opinion) and yet he has an insane amount of votes… I call hax!
Anyway all that to say, good job man ^_^
TwoKinds fills a fairly empty niche, so it gets more readers per unit of effort than most webcomics. Also, I don’t think you’re giving it enough credit, but that may just be because I’m a fan. The Kickstarter project that Tom ran a two years ago earned over two hundred thousand dollars. That’s a good indication that he really does have a bunch of readers.
What niche? Plenty of furry comics, most of them even update regulary and look better
Looking through the top 50 on TWC (aka. the ones with links to TWC on their websites), it’s the only furry webcomic with detailed art.
Check the furry list and it’s not even in the top 10
TwoKinds also (the last time I checked) actually has bonus story content in his vote incentives, and he updates them every week, which is why he’s perpetually #1 after a few days.
Generating ridiculous amounts of bonus content just for promotion? That’s definitely cheating! ^_^
I don’t think I’ve ever seen the vote incentive update more than once in a month (always the first of the month), and the few times it’s been cannon have not been plot-related. However, the vote link is always an evil teaser thumbnail.
oh don’t get me wrong, twokind has an awesome story, i can tell the art has gotten a lot better over time. but he updates the story like once or twice a months but i guess i didn’t take in account the extra story from the weekly incentive. makes sense….
i still think this is better than two kind. no offense to the author or anyone liking his work( hell i love his work too)
You’re definately right about that. GrrlPower art is better, and it updates more often and much more regularly.
We love you for that, DaveB.
Nah, this is the closest Sydney ever came to fan service.

Free boobs for all!
don’t forget her ”sexy” pirate pin-up :P
Off to /u/
Just like politics; anybody who REALLY wants the job shouldn’t have it.
Agreed. And this reminds me of a quote from the movie Lord of war.
Those that know don’t care, and those that care don’t know.
+1
Just stating in that second to last panel it kiiiinda looks like maxima’s got OTHER interests in sydney…not that I object, I would greatly enjoy…but then again full blooded male…last I checked, I like that sorta thing.
You clearly haven’t done enough observing of women/girls interacting with other women/girls. We aren’t as standoffish as guys – platonic physical closeness is very common in female friendships. This includes hugs, cheek-kisses in some countries, pouncing from behind for the more active types, arms around each others shoulders, grabbing each others hands in excitement, falling all over each other when laughing, etc. It is not an indicator of not being heterosexual, it is a difference in the female viewpoint from the male. Kudos to DaveB for paying enough attention to portray it accurately.
It should also be pointed out that the more oblivious females often do those things with/to their male friends as well, even if there’s no romantic feelings involved, completely unaware of how it could be interpreted. Much to the guy’s frustration, I’m sure.
Why do you think I’m interested in you? I only hug you from behind when you’re sitting and wiggle my breasts all over the back of your head constantly. And I only lay my head in your lap and nibble on your thigh. And there’s no way you read anything into it when I straddle you in a chair, lock my ankles behind your back and do situps grinding my pelvis into your crotch and thrusting my chest in your face over and over and over. That’s what friends do!
Those last two are exaggerations XD For most women, anyway. For the hugging from behind, realistically, most of the time most women aren’t really aware of their chest, except possibly as an annoyance that gets in the way.
Keeps your ears warm in the winter though, conflicting signals not withstanding :P
I’m thinking the term “crumb shelf” may show up in the comic soon if I can work it in.
….THAT is unfortunately a reality. And makes you look like a slob if you aren’t paying attention. Like men with beards, I imagine.
True. I have a relative and a friend that opted to have a breast reduction surgery (not a simple procedure) the latter partially out of shame, but them both because of the convenience.
Man, that is harsh. I sincerely hope that it was more for genuine medical reasons than what you have stated there! Because no one should feel shame at their own body. And it is a sad indictment of our society that people are driven to such desperate measures by the pressure that gets put on them.
Whilst I prefer smaller breasts (or flat-chested, for that matter) to the upper cup-sizes, I would not want any women to consider breast-reduction surgery to accommodate the tastes of myself or others like me. Obviously society usually pushes women in the other direction, but I find that equally unconscionable.
Although we all have some idealised image that we look for in a partner, only the totally selfish and soulless people would want to alter somebody to meet their ideal by advocating surgery and the risks that entails. One of the women I dated asked me if I would want her to do that, and I was horrified that she would even consider it. Albeit, on a different level, being touched that she would. But only in the context that ‘it is the thought that counts’.
I couldn’t agree with you more however some women get it done because of back issues. I believe Queen Latifah mentioned this when she had it done.
I know of at least a couple women who have considered breast reduction, ironically because the general assumption seems to be that if you’ve got more than a C-cup you MUST have gotten a boob job. So you get people assuming you’re shallow and the clothes/bras that fit are 2-3 times as expensive (because, of course, if you can afford a boob job you can afford expensive clothes, and if you’re that size you MUST have had a boob job).
Yes as a on again off again beard wearing male I can say that large growths can collect stuff and if it grows densely near mouth it can (if your not careful) act as a wick for liquids. ref: Gimli in LOR
I’ve heard that the really prodigious ones might be referred to as “soup-strainers”, but that may just be a local idiom.
Actually it can be literal. If you don’t keep it trimmed and “tamed” it can get in the way. Of course I do have a heavy beard. Other men may have different experiences. And to answer another question often asked yes a beard can help keep your face warm bot can also provide a place for ice to form. Not fun.
@Gamesman:
Yes, I’ve actually had my beard-&-moustache ice-up solid while walking home during a blizzard. Yes, it was cold on my face, but once it finished forming the initial layer, It shielded my mouth-&-chin from any further cold as it formed thicker layers. Final result: it was never warm, or even merely enjoyable, but it never got any colder than that initial amount either. It was a strange feeling, & not one I’d ever recommend to anyone.
Also, if the moustache hangs low-enough over the upper-lip, that would be a “beer-filter”.
Is it going to be Harem or Dabbler?
That no doubt could be Math. And subsequent PvP :)
Tell Maxima, sadly she really care.
Yeah, totally incidental, right Leon?
Only the nibbling and sit-ups seem exaggerated. Upto that point I have experienced this including the grinding.
Frustrating for the hugger too. I am totally impulsive and into physical contact. In my youth I had to get used to restrain myself because of all the misunderstandings and discomfort both my friends and partners. Sucks even today.
why can’t you let us have fun without beating us down with logic and facts? “maybe that is her fun” I DIDN’T ASK YOU! “for the record he did in fact ask me your all my witness’ “
Cheer up mate, I am sure there will be romance to come. Lesbian and otherwise. And I am sure that Sydney will feature heavily and possibly Maxima too. If not necessarily together.
Until then, easy on the high-caffeine drinks and perk yourself up with some chocolate instead.
“don’t blame me, he’s the high strung one” I AM NOT! “see what I mean? I can wait it’s entertaining still want to see it though” I’m patient “you bloody liar”
Don’t worry, I am sure that you do not need to convince anyone here that I can be irritating and overbearing. Including myself. They are character flaws that I possess, and doubt that I will be able to do much about them. All I can do is apologise.
“who said you were irritating?” Someone must have “I’m well aware captain obvious thankyou” Captain Obvious lives 3 towns over “nevermind that yorp I don’t mind opposing views, agreeable views or comments” I might “SHUT IT!”
He he. No need to say it. Even my best mate gets fed up with my know-it-all attitude at times. He remains my best mate because he gives me a figurative slapping when I get too insufferable. It helps clear the air. So I never mind being told if someone is getting fed up, or wants to offer constructive criticism. Otherwise, if folks’ bottle it up. I risk loosing friends. Which I would very much regret.
I still need work on what’s appropriate actually :( I mean, growing up any touching was pretty much off limits, despite me being a touchy child. Now more touching is appropriate for me, but apparently still not what’s natural for me. It’s nice having understanding friends that are okay with it, even if they don’t particularly want to touch that much. Also nice to finally be able to socialize properly as myself where it is appropriate to be more like me :)
Yeah. Panel 5 last week has Maxima in a pretty suggestive pose too.
Revealing, yes, given that she may be exposing more than she is intending. But that is very clearly unintentional, if you read the body-language and understand the emotional content of the scene.
Likewise the panel above is a moment of emotional connection. A bonding, rather than anything with sexual undertones. As Kalietha eloquently says, girls express emotions more openly than boys. It is through friendship, and it not a pass.
She’s a superhero; it’s in the contract that she assume provocative poses in contextually irrelevant situations.
Heh, that is pretty much a guild rule across the industry. Not here though. DaveB works hard to go counter to that cliché.
Pretty heroines in. Silly poses out.
Another spoof of this same trope:
I took it more as a Just Between You and Me moment.
I really hope that Sydney freaks out over the word “relationship” and then it turns out to be innocuous.
And now we all need vote incentive featuring Sydney with loose hair, and we march to number one.
…and I thought that moment, was just when Sydney realised the PPO needed a verbal command to work to prevent random thoughts disasters.
Seems the orbs ADAPT to their owners, more than the opposite…
So Sydney got a pet star. (or Azathoth as a familiar…) this makes pokemon looks like pea shooters, LOL
Cthullumon I choose you.
Trance Gemini, I choose you.
Trance Gemini uses Causality Shift. You are unable to act.
Trance Gemini uses Supernova. It is super effective. Everybody loses.
15 minutes later Cthullu pulls himself back together and orders a pizza.
You haven’t played gen IV have you? Palkia can warp things between dimensions, and make pocket ones itself, Dialga has complete control of time and Arceus, is rumored to have, made the entire Pokémon universe.
Just imagine aliens, like the Kutun, who can cause two neutron stars to collide and aim their axis to fire the deadly stream of gamma radiation at you from several thousand light years away? True that is Type III level power for a civilization. We are only Type 0 but we can cause Type I level effects by accident. (See Global Warming and ints concomitants. Also the near empty oceans too.)
Sydney is in that way on a personal level with the PPO which can fire a blast strong enough to level a city block or more.
Something tells me Yorp is going to be overjoyed to see the fourth and fifth panels. Happy early/late Birth Day, Yorp! Also, love the effects with the sepia tone and the star!
*wags tail*
Mind you, someday Sydney will be more comfortable with her body, and her self-image will become more realistic.
*wags tail more, with a subtle bob to acknowledge ironic self-appreciation*
Really have no idea what Maxi is going say/do, and happy to wait and not even begin imagining Maxi telling Sydney to pucker up and see if her lipstick smears
“Food’s ready.”
“I have actually touched a star, how else do you think I got this tan?”
Hahaha :)
My guess? Probably some rephrasing of a certain line from Major League:
“Nice catch. Don’t you ever f***ing do that again.”
You are now the dark lord of cliff hangers dave
So, are hugs and cuddles now part of the official army recruit training manual?
You want internal monologue? Here’s one.
Dabbler looks across the room: “Max is hugging someone else. Must. Kill. Rival!”
You spelt Ari’s name wrong :P
Nuh-uh. Dabbler’d be all like, “Max and Sydney getting all cuddly. Gotta turn that into a three-way.”
Or use lust aura and hide and laugh as they suddenly feel awkward.
Weaponised lust aura! Bad…eerr….demon. Ok, I guess she is just doing her job. Carry on. Nothing to see here. *blocks view to any naughty goings on*
dabs aint bad just inappropriately playful especially with someone she finds prudish or over self-restrained
Indeed. I was being dreadfully racist. She will have to spank me. A lot.
(…movie quote…):
“Wicked, wicked Zoot!”
I was just watching this on DVD last week.
No, I think it would be better for Dabbler to put you on the ignore list.
*points up above* I commented on that topic to the first person to assume that it was Max being romantic. It is my duty as a female reader to clear up such misconceptions XD
And it is our job as men, even if we understand that it’s not always romantical to have two women acting this way to take it the absolutely sexiest way possible. Because we’re men and we like to annoy women.
Let the shipping begin! :D
XD Granted.
*Max-ney ship pulls out of dock, And sinks as soon as it hits the water*
hss maxney undergoes total reality failure soon after
So you are talking about a submarine?
That reminds me of a navy comedy (Operation Petticoat?) where an admiral is inspecting a submarine and asks a petty officer if the boat will sink, to which the petty officer replies, “Like a rock, Sir!” The admiral is satisfied and moves on. The first officer then quietly asks the petty officer, “What about coming back up?” “We are still working on that part, sir.”
I grew up listening to an Afrikaans radio comedy which had been modelled on that and the Navy Lark. Set on board a submarine based on the Apies River. One running gag being that Pretoria is at least 300 miles from the sea.
If you look at the picture in the link, you may think ‘even so, I can picture a submarine moored in that river’. The other underlying gag being that, at the time it was being recorded, South Africa was in the middle of a seven year drought. Even in a normal year, the Apies got very low during the summer. But during a drought, it dried up so much you could practically step across it!
One other point is that Dabbler is an alien, so is almost as likely as a male to misconstrue such a situation. Plus she is also part-succubus, so really would not care if she was. Her urges are much more primal.
D`Awww! Maxi’s face in panel 11!
Seconded.
The whole sequence of the last three panels are like a master-class in portraying emotions. Even ignoring the inspired use of touching a star as a powerful analogy, with it’s own emotional and symbolic content. A cohesive roller-coaster of emotions.
The best person for a position of power is the person who least wants the job, because they truly know what it all entails.
Not quite. That person is better than most options, but the person fully aware of all the work it entails, and who wants it anyway (either because they think they can do a good job of it or because they think it’s worth all that effort) is better than the one who doesn’t want it at all. The latter could potentially do a bad job just to make sure someone else gets the job – or might not want it because they know they can’t do a good job of it.
I understand where you are coming from in your response but I think he was talking in terms of respect of the power and the necessity of restricting oneself from it’s potential abuses.
You also have to take into context that those orbs are *bonded* to Sydney. They’ll follow her around even if she doesn’t want them to. It’s not a matter of wanting or not wanting that power, from Sydney’s POV…She stuck with it now & has to carefully consider the ramifications of *having* the power.
True enough, unfortunately we get a bunch of people who WANT the job and only see what it can GET them, not what they’re supposed to DO.
An unfortunate malady which in the U.S. is often called, “Potomac Fever”.
pink floaty-haired Sydney… makes me feel funny – like climbing the rope in gym class…
I think I might be coming around to Yorp’s perspective on this one
Monday the Flashback includes an Old-Timey Piano and those flash cards when they speak,
Maxima: Cuddly to Lecture in .03 seconds.
Also, she raises her eyebrow more than Spock.
Not as much as T’ealc though XD
Indeed.
XDDD
*Raises eyebrow and somehow also looks like he’s about to cry*
I never understood just how he managed to do that.
I know. I have spent years practicint raising one eyebrow and I still can’t get it anywhere near that high, much less high and portraying more emotions.
It was totally like touching a star! Than I got sand blasted by sand, than flailed comically within a forcefield full of sand while hovering in mid-air……..
I think that is an actual star and the orb allows you to travel to the star in spirit and open a portal to it by touching the surfce. That would mean that maybe you could boost the power by pushing the portal into it’s surface?
IIRC Isn’t the Corona of the sun actually hotter than the surface, which is hotter than the core?
The core of a star, like our sun, has the highest temperature, pressure and heat. This reduces as you spread out to the surface. The surface then superheats the thin solar atmosphere (corona) to very high temperatures, but due to very low density, with much less heat. Think of dropping a basketball with a tennis ball sitting on top of it. When the basketball starts to rebound off the floor, it launches the light tennis ball really high.
Ahhh, I love Mitchell And Webb. Angel Summoner and BMX Bandit has to be most appropriate to this comic: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zFuMpYTyRjw . Guess which Maxima’s closest to :)
Another good one.
Gymkhana girl?
“In English-speaking countries, a gymkhana refers to a multi-game equestrian event performed to display the training and talents of horses and their riders”
;)
I was being a bit more literal in the choices offered. Those being between two guys and one girl.
Not to be confused with Gymkata.
Shugar lumpsh
No one else thought it was a reference to BMX Bandits starring a young pre-Tom Cruise Nicole Kidman?
Hoping like hell for Sydney/Maxima romance :3
Hate to burst the bubble, but consider the following. Sydney fancies Leon enough to consider the possibility of marrying him. Plus her fantasies obviously tend towards guys, given her crush.
I don’t think that we have any indication of Maxima’s orientation. But her intensely negative reaction to Dabbler’s overtures would imply she is heterosexual.
Granted Maxima could be in denial or possibly covering for other reasons. But, even if you consider those likely, there has been no hint of anything sexual between Maxima and Sydney. Maxima is being a lot more friendly than is proper between a senior officer and a recruit mind you. But it is due to friendship, not having any romantic undertones that I can pick up on.
As an aside though, regardless of breaches in military protocol and etiquette, I think that Maxima is very much taking the right line here. Normal protocol is for officers to keep a distance from their troops. Get too close and familiarity can cause problems in both directions. Hence the necessity of enforcing those protocols. But Sydney is very different to a typical recruit and clearly needs handling very carefully. Making and sustaining an emotional connection is a powerful tool for Maxima to use in order help Sydney stay on the rails. As well as being the decent human thing to do.
Maxima clearly has her own unorthodox take on how the personnel in her unit should be handled (thinking of the super-wedgie incident with Harem). But, being a totally unique unit containing people with unprecedentedly powerful and dangerous abilities, her unorthodox approach may well work better than the handbook one.
I concur.
Regarding Max reactions to Dabbler I think they are against Dabbler’s lack of respect no matter her gender.
Regarding Max sexual orientation her psychology could be a bit complex in that topic:
Cast page:
“She is a beautiful and exotic woman, and the attention she draws has poisoned her
somewhat to the opposite gender. … every time she sees a man checking her out, it makes her feel like … all they see is an exotic sex doll…”
Anyway I think Max hetero too… so far.
Aside topic: somehow you make me recall the movie “Tribes” (or “The Soldier Who Declared Peace”), about Adrian, a recruited anti-war hippie, and his tough drill instructor, Sgt. Drake. There is a couple mutual enlightening moments, but eventually Adrian deserted running away and against every official procedure Drake cover him and search him having a touching talk, something without precedents to Drake, trying to avoid Adrian’s life be ruined.
Best explanation, EVER!
*agrees*
A picture paints a thousand words.
Soul Sydney have no belly button :O Existential metaphor or mistake.. Ponder ponder.
Her self-image has an avoidance of any details that she is a bit shy about. Which speaks volumes about her psyche. Artistically as well though being the best way to handle this as well, especially given the sheer number of (presumably guys) who mistake a friendly cuddle with a sexual overture.
The POWER OF THE SUN in the PALM OF MY HAND!
WOOOW!! :) GREAT page! That art really rocks. And the expressions.
FORESHADOWING!!!!
The closest we have come to Sydney cheesecake.
Did you put an Aladdin reference in your author’s note? That’s amazing. “Phenomenal cosmic power, itty bitty living space” Very nice.
And then the weirdness never ends as I load Pandora after that comment and the first song is Friend Like Me from Aladdin.
I enjoy references, both oblique and acute. It’s a kind of sickness.
At least you don’t have Robert Asprin’s obsession with puns. Or rather, with just one pun.
I think I am mything your point?
If you like puns Piers Anthoney’s Xanth series is one of the puniest.
Oh most definitely. More so in the later ones, because he keeps getting fan suggestions and feels the need to use them. The early ones are more serious.
Stopped reading Xanth when that zombie started chasing after that jail-bait girl (after reading his biography, knew what was going to happen, so returned the book without even finishing the first chapter)
O_o() I don’t think I read that one.
It was after “Colour of her Panties”
That would explain it. I think that was the last one I read. Truthfully, I prefer his science fiction – “Rings of Ice”, though hard to find, is very good.
“Bio of a Space Tyrant” was good, and “Incarnations of Immortality” (but didn’t read the last two, the ‘Good’ and ‘Evil’ books)
I like the Incarnations books too XD I like that they’re as detailed on the system of magic as the science would be in a good scifi book. The Good and Evil books are as good as the rest – Good less so, but the Evil one is one of my favorites.
In which case, in case you have not read them, his Phase books are a very good series. Even if you tired with his later works. It is science fiction but deliberately blurs the boundary to fantasy.
I was including those when I said I generally prefer his science fiction XD
If I remember what I read in his author’s notes right, past the first nine or so he’s been writing the Xanth books mostly to generate the income to allow him to write the other stuff. So of course the other stuff is better written, they’re the ones he WANTED to write XD
Believe read some (or at least, one) of the Phase series (was that the one where there were 3 genders? and did it start with a guy who was a stable-boy/jockey who determined a ‘horse’ he was following was female with worms after inspecting her droppings? yeah, don’t remember much about that book but remember that part clearly :P)
I remember the setting more than the specifics. It has been a long time since I read them. There are two versions of the planet, the one that the rest of the galaxy sees. A science fiction setting, with a rich population obsessed with playing a game. Which drives their economy and interactions with the galaxy. A bit like the Olympics, it has many games within it. But includes more exotic things like music (although the Olympics has included poetry and sculpting at some time). A lot of the plots depended on the grid that you took to progress on each victory, as it took more than one to win a particular game. Some of which were co-operative, others more traditionally competitive or even deadly.
Whereas certain characters know how to phase to the other world. A magical version. I do remember that a principle character discovered he had an interesting way to cast spells. But mix up the details somewhat with the hero in Alan Dean Foster’s Spellsinger. But, seem to recall that he needed to rhyme in order to create a spell. Not being able to use the same one twice though, he needed to do more complex ones for everyday uses when he had the time to think. Saving the quick and easy ones for emergencies.
….aaaand now I feel the need to go reread Spellsinger XD
Which one? There are a lot of Spellsinger books now though the later ones weren’t up to the first ones.
One of the best/worst one was the hindquarters of a feline mounted on a plaque in Ogre Ogre. Yes that’s right it caused a lot of problems because it was a Cat-Ass-Trophy!
Other sources of truly inspired/depraved/atrocious puns include the Spider Robinson series of books about “Callahan’s Cross-Time Saloon”, or the “Shaggy-Dog”-stories of Ferdinand Feghoot.
Does anyone wanna quote A space odyssey
You mean “Oh my God! It’s full of stars!”? :)
Was actually looking for that (around the 3 minute mark), and came across a possible soundbyte for Sydney, or possibly even Maxi (the last part in particular, let’s hope neither give in to that urge)
Oh, and thank you for getting me to track down this playlist, used to play it all the time when playing Populous back in the pre-interweb days (that’s early-mid 90’s for you snapperwhips out there)
*sitting poised, ready to spring, in the event that any bones get thrown up in the air*
[Pink Floyd playing in the background]
“When I’m a good dogface they sometimes throw me a bone!”
Tosses big ham bone over Yorp’s head.
Yummy yummy in my tummy.
*cocks head to one side, deep in thought*
Yea, they could have had those lyrics. On the world of giant pink bunnies I think it was.
*carries on chewing*
I was very close. https://www.thewallanalysis.com/main/nobody-home.html
Indeed.
*wags tail*
New theme song?
Well, to be honest I have always fancied something for when I enter rooms on ceremonial occasions. Obviously I would be the last choice for leadership, not wanting such a burden. But, if it were thrust on me, for the good of humanity, I would want a good theme song.
Yorp God-Emperor of Earth!
All Rise!
(Nobody’s Home by Pink Floyd plays in the background)
Hal: “I’m sorry, Dave. I can’t do that.”
That being said… Don’t touch a star.
That being said… Don’t describe it to anyone in such a manner that it can sexualised or powerful.
Absolute power corrupts absolutely. Don’t be publicly emotional, it can be interpreted as weakness.
Can someone tell me what a good programm is to draw stuff on my pc?
I hear Manga Studio a lot but I’m not sure myself about this.
I use Manga Studio for the pencils and inks, and Paint Tool SAI for coloring. I used to do the whole comic in SAI (except for the panels/lettering which is done in Illustrator). I don’t know of a good totally free one, but SAI works for 30 days fully functional and is only like $65. I think the non-pro version of MS is $99. It does nearly everything the pro version does except for some feature involving story management which I don’t use and some of the rulers aren’t enabled.
There’s lots of others, OpenCanvas, Sketchbook, GIMP and Photoshop, though I don’t particularly recommend the last two while though they’re powerful, they weren’t specifically designed for drawing.
I do pretty well in GIMP, but they rushed headlong into their latest update – I suggest hunting down version 2.6 if you go with it. It’s more a painting program than a drawing one though, inking can be…painful, but it does very well for sketches and paintings.
