Grrl Power #182 – A little light dinner speculation
To be clear, Maxima never actually said the stuff about batman on any of the previous pages, but of course there’s been lots of off camera conversations. Obviously Sydney was the topic of a lot of those discussions. Also, don’t worry, what happened with the skilltree will be talked about on the next page.
Speaking of which, I have two versions of the skilltree panel up as wallpapers over at DeviantArt. The original version minus Achilles and the word bubble, and another one with Ding Sydney.
Also on this page, the return of tubey!
Thank you guys so much for all the support over at Patreon. (And Paypal and the Amazon referral link.) When I set up the account over there, I looked around at other comics on Patreon that were in relatively the same “webcomic weight class” and honestly I didn’t really expect I’d actually make it to the $1,000 goal for several months, if at all. In fact I thought it was pushing it a little to even include such a lofty goal, but the fact that we got there in under two weeks means one, I should re-evaluate my weight class I guess, and two, I need to add some more goals because why not. Also while hitting the goal allows me to do the comic full time for a little while, it’s still not enough to live on, but at least now I don’t have to scramble to find a job right away. I won’t bore you with financial planning stuff, but as promised I’ll definitely be doing two comics a week for at least the next several months. So again, thank you everyone for your support, from reading the comic, sharing it on the social network of your choice, to directly contributing financially.
Freak the Waitress and Gross out your Dinner Companions. That’s Dabbler for ya.
Also I’d give that waitress a 7 on the freak out scale.
Wait until she sees her tip.
You deserved to have hit your $1,000 goal, and much, much more. Grrl Power is an excellent webcomic. Frequently laugh out loud funny, without feeling the need to shoehorn a joke in every page. A great plot that makes me genuinely wanna know what happens next. Excellent art that’s getting better, and really great characters. It’s a great piece of work! Thank you!
That and you have given some of the creative writing types quite some fodder to play with in the fanfic arena Night before Christmas, indeed! Also, the depiction of ADHD, both Sydney’s and Dabbler’s, strike the right chord for me. As someone with ADHD (among apparently other readers as well), I find that ADHD is often played as silly, out-of-control spaz, but rarely am I that. Sydney strikes a beautiful balance, played for laughs without being silly, while still working in dramatic moments and character development. The quality of the writing and of the art are consistently great. The depth of character development makes me feel like I know these characters as people, not just random images on the screen. Definitely keep up the great work, Mr. Barrack.
Looking at Sydney holding court at her own table? (Kiddie table?)
Now the similarities between that scene and the last supper is somewhat there…including a supposed Judas of Harem…
looking at the table i think they’re all at the same one, well ones, if i’m guessing right, the tables were shoved together to put them at it, or it’s an optical illusion.
Looks like a standard “U” configuration – typical for council-style luncheons
Yeah, you saw Hiro and Math at the other end of the ‘U’, when it looked like it was a ‘regular’ layout
How does one grab an eye like that and pull it out?
The parts she grabbed would be deep inside the eye socket
Clearly she just pressed eject.
That, or the ‘pop’ was her teleporting it into her hand?
Actually, it’s not that difficult to pop ones own eye out (painful, but not difficult)
On the other hand popping your eye back in is not painful.
Try to put it in lvl or your sight will be weird until your brain adapts.
It only happened to me once.
G’Kar managed it. I’m sure Dabbler, with her technomagery and such would have an easier time than he did.
For reference: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BKM2eqiQj-M
And she can potentially do the same trick of leaving it hidden in a room somewhere as a spy cam. Although, I’m sure Leon could come up with something less conspicuous for that purpose.
She probably already designed spycams smaller than vissible to the human eye
Leon is the hacker, not the tech guru
You are right, I did not think that one through. And although she has nifty toys, Dabbler does tend to be stingy in letting other people use them. Maybe it’s that whole ‘prime directive’ thing with primitive cultures.
Archon’s staff seems to be lacking in someone who is primarily a super science techo-gadget specialist (Tony Stark/Reed Richards). Maybe after today’s press conference they will be getting some new resume’s to review. The could at least bring in a ‘Q’ to create cool stuff for the field agents.
We don’t have a full list of their supers as of yet. Beyond that, abnormal tech is implied in the masks used in the bank robbery as well as the overall appearance of Mister Tingles.
I think the illusions on the bank were magic.
Not sure about it being magic: they were ‘turned off’ by removing a tattoo
Dabbler made a handheld railgun in an afternoon (probably), though she doesn’t share it with anyone.
So I’m not sure if that counts
I’m thinking Dabbler does the Tech thing, but she’s limiting what she makes for ARCHON to what Earth tech can theoretically accomplish. (we don’t yet have molecular/atomic circuitry, for example so the “Railbow” might be her personal weapon, but she’s not making any for anyone else.)
Cybernetics are supposed to have a link directly to the brain, so she probably just thought about ejecting the eye and “pop” out it comes.
Maybe by our understanding, but it isn’t beyond reasonable to expect that Dabbler has some kind of subspacey like link that doesn’t need any kind of physical connection. I suspect she could use it like Garret from the “Thief” video game series. Pull it out, roll it around the corner, and see what’s there.
We don’t even need physical connections. We have wireless transmissions.
It’d need to improve abit for implants offcourse, to eliminate any signal loss
While many ocular prosthesis have some type of fixation (usually to the remain muscles to make it moveable) it is usual that they can be easily removed.
If you are impressionable: https://www.asprion.at/prosthetic_eyes/inserting_artificial_eye.html
If you are not: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q5qGLnihP28
shouldn’t be too hard. I’ve seen people pop their fake eye out before. Served with a Marine that had lost an eye. Every U.S.M.C. birthday, he’d pop out his normal looking glass eye and put in a red eye with the eagle, globe, and anchor on the front. Pretty cool looking.
My cousin’s daughter has had a glass eye, ever since she was a baby. She doesn’t like taking it out in front of people because, y’know, teenage girl.
I don’t think she has any special models, but I could see her doing it when she gets older.
Just what is Sydney doing over at the table? What kind of motion is she performing
Also I like that there are 2 Harems watching her from different angles
I think one of those Harems is Gwen.
Yep, that’s Gwen standing behind Peggy, with “Thing 1” on the right.
And it looks like both of them are looking at Peggy like she’s the last crab leg at a Chinese buffet.
No, Strawberry Harem is riveted by Sydney’s story-telling (look at her eyes)
Crap, you are right
no you have 2 Harems and Peggy(the one with the short pink hair)
The “who’ who” on the right hand side of the website lets you know who’s in the page you’re looking at. That’s definitely Gwen.
Gwen and Goth Harem go shopping together, even though Gwen goes more for the gothic lolita look and Goth goes more for the gothy suicide girl look.
Also, Gwen’s hairstyle is black with pink (only one of the Harem has pink hair, and she’s sitting right there), Gothne is black hair with purple ‘Rogue’ fringe
Well there are a couple of lines of dialogue which might suggest the answer:
“So I was thinking if I put it here, then I will unlock the ability to summon a flaming wyrm”
Or:
“And there I was grabbing hold of his naked butt-cheeks”
They’re probably more interested in the second option.
Eye-poppingly hilarious.
OK boys and girls, it’s all fun and games until someone loses an eye!
And for dessert, icecream.
GOL (groan out load)
*giant gummi-eye lands on your head*
Speaking of which: If one of her eyes is artificial that means she has chosen to have one green eye and one blue. This doesn’t means her heterochromia is unnatural to her. She could have been born that way and when she needed to replace the eye she could have decided to keep the look.
Or she just liked the collour change
Based off wereworld material, Dabbler’s eye and arm were forced on her most likely. They wouldn’t have cared to match eye colors.
Before anyone complains that the arm-device is missing from Sydney’s arm in panel 2, they are all off-duty now and she has even changed out of her uniform.
Looks like we all guessed correctly with the cameras.
Special thanks to DaveB for both those downloadable wallpapers. The fact that they are such high resolution that you can zoom in to examine any part is really nice.
Personally I chose the original flava as my current wallpaper. Because Halo looks simply adorable.
And congratulations on the Paetron success so far. Well deserved for all your years of providing us such an awesome comic.
+1
Thank you very much Dave, they are way great. The original is my favorite too, and for the same reason :)
Plus so much pleased hearing the news about Paetron, you really earned it.
Yorp, what do you make me said? It is “Patreon” not “Paetron” :)
i’am already supporting Wapsi Sqaure and Trying Human….
So why not another!
Speaking of eyes doing weird things: that poor waitress!
Nice to see Gwen again, and Peg out of uniform
Does Peg have a full arm tattoo? Any chance of a close-up?
And… is Gwen checking out Sydney’s butt? Or is she looking at Peg? Almost seems (to me) that Gwen might be a little jealous (or just not happy that Peg is smiling like that at Sydney)
Before anyone says anything normal about Gwen, look closely at her eyes, they are angled down and Sydney isn’t that short
That is not Gwen it is Peggy
They are both there. Gwen is the one standing up.
You’ll get to see some detail on her tats with the Valentines Day vote incentive. :)
Great! I was about to ask for the same. Those tats seems to be amazing.
Now I think Pegg could be a pretty good Suicide Girl model :)
Now you point it out yes, it seems she is looking at Peg, and no so much happy. What a topic to speculate about :)
If it is a ‘not happy’ look, and not romantic in anyway (/sadface) maybe Peg stole Gwen’s seat
Kenya looks great with her hair tied, should keep that look for her.
So does Maxi, but believe she is still self-conscious about her ears to deliberately show them publically
Panel 1:
Maxima doesn’t always drink beer, but when she does, she drinks Dos Equis.
naaa she drinks chilly pepper based booze
That would be Sydney.
No, Sydney drinks military-grade pepper-spray, when she’s having a relaxing night :D
The stuff Sydney uses as a condiment is illegal for police use on humans, and likely bears as well. Go back to the restaurant scene at ARCHON.
https://www.grrlpowercomic.com/archives/697 says her meal was about 3,000,000 scoville, legal limit for police pepper spray is 1,000,000 and most formulas are 500,000 just to not put people in hospitals as that level is more than enough to put normal people down, and even incapacitate Texans and Border Mexicans. Use of 3,000,000 scoville against unprotected civilians would probably be a war crime.
Sydney did that a loooong time ago https://www.grrlpowercomic.com/comics/2011-03-14-GP0030.jpg
IIRC 1,000,000 is the strength they use on rampaging Grizzlies
This is the only webcomic I actually consider worth donating monthly for. So I did. I really hope this eventually will make you capable of doing this full time instead of a job so we will have lots and lots of comic pages up :3
on the cast page i was wondering what each of the symbols mean?
They seem to match what the text in their bios says about their abilities. So a wing = flight, a shield = resistance to damage, a strong arm = strength, spikey sunflower = beam ray attack, foot = speed, bubble = forcefield, fist = martial arts, etc…
Here is a link to my speculations on what each mean:
https://www.grrlpowercomic.com/archives/933/comment-page-2#comment-38155
Woot!!! Congratz on hitting the big goal so quickly. Love the comic both the look and the feel. Keep up the good work.
ok at the table with Sid are from the left Gwen, Peggy and Harem
Dave,
This is, by far, my favorite comic, closely followed by “Girl Genius”. Well worth throwing money at you to give you incentive to produce more.
Thank you.
We are getting close to going to the next day. You know, I’m not sure what day of the week this has been in Grrl Power. Is tomorrow a weekday or a weekend day? Still, I’m looking forward to seeing how Sydney’s friends react to her having been on the news, and the reasons why. I’m guessing the comic book store may be a little overwhelmed.
It has been established in the comments from the powers that be (DaveB), that this day (the last 3 years) are a Tuesday. Everybody has to work tomorrow.
Like any of them care at the moment.
As for the Archons, they’re probably on standby most of the time anyway and Syd owns her comic shop, so, yeah.
Ah. Thank you.
I remember making this joke long ago:
“To you, the day I came to ARCHON and blasted a hole in your wall was the most important day in your lives, to me it was Tuesday.” ;)
Feedback:
– Xuriel’s makeup, particularly in frame 1 is amazing! The graduated coloration from eyeliner to brow is extremely well done.
– Loving Kenya’s look in frame 1 – the corset-cincher really adds something. In frame 5, however, she’s awkwardly placed – like you were bound and determined to fit her, from ankles to forehead, in a space that simply wouldn’t accomodate it. Something looks a bit off about the folds of cloth in her pants as well – the lines seem very hard (compare that to the curtains in the ballroom scene).
– Has Peggy added ink since we last saw her arms? I don’t recall a full-sleeve. Her “dot-eyes” look feels a little odd in that particular frame with everybody else showing whites/pupils, though it does convey a more masculine look pretty effectively.
– We haven’t seen much of Gwen overall, but she always seems to have crossed eyes – is that intentional?
– Posing in frame 1 is spot-on perfect, from Xuriel’s slight hunch and defined scapula, to Max’s masculine posture, to Kenya’s slight twist as she looks over toward Sydney. I don’t know if you’re doing something different with modeling, but this frame alone hits every point perfectly and is a quantum leap over previous pages.
Overall, a very nicely done page, art-wise. Also presents a great segue from the action of the past several pages, to present relaxed down-time, just like you talk about in your About page.
I had been thinking that this is the most realistically human looking we have seen Maxima. Pretty impressive for someone with shiny metallic skin.
I think she is wearing a pleated skirt, not pants (see: her lap in panel 1, the way to large to be a pants cuff open area at the base of the skirt in panel 5). Hard lines are a lot more appropriate for those, and it would also explain why it’s visible outside the chair leg a bit, where a leg would be awkwardly placed, which in turn clears up the perspective a little.
Thanks! I had to do a little googling to figure out the eyeshadow. One drawback of being a male artist is that I have no experience with the stuff. It also explains why everyone up to this point had fire engine red lipstick. (Except Dabbler with her cotton candy pink). Now that a little time has passed everyone has had a chance to reapply.
The last panel has some issues, Anvil especially. I redrew her twice and I needed a third go at it really but at some point I have to move on from pencils to inks. Those upward angles are tough to get right.
You are doing great, Dave. You are taking risks on your art instead just play vanilla and that is very valuable. Plus you usually manage it :)
By the way, that first panel is wonderful. Another one that make me want it alone ;)
To me Max looks less muscular than in previous comics. Does she physically change size by putting in and removing energy to her strength factor? Or is this just because she is no longer wearing the bulky uniform jacket?
Of course, we would need to see a series of pictures in various poses, both clothed and unclothed to be absolutely certain.
It’s more me trying to ‘right size’ her. I tend to go overboard on the muscles on women, but at the same time Max is pretty fit, like a Decathlete or something.
@Dave: did you miss making peggys eyes white?
The moment I read the cybernetic eye I knew it was going to be removed from it’s socket.
The way it happened though still resulted in a side splitting laugh attack.
Yeah! Thursday comics!
Bwahahahaha!!!
Let’s see. Cybernetic arm, cybernetic eye. What’s next? She can run at 60 miles per hour for sustained periods?
Yes, probably. But when she does, this weird theme music plays overhead and 40ish year old geeks start feeling nostalgic and humming under their breath. So she doesn’t do it all that often.
She finds the weirdest thing is that although she is running fast everything seems to go really really slowly.
I can just see how that developed.
Director: So you can get a high-speed camera? Great! We need to make this guy look like he’s running really fast. So shoot him 6 times faster than normal.
Director of Photography: But if you shoot it 6 times faster, the guy will look like he’s hardly moving.
Director: What part of high-speed photography don’t you get? This way he look like he is really fast.
DoP: Okay, it’s your show, but that isn’t how it works. But at least we should be able to hide how sloppy this guy runs.
A few days later, the network watchdog and the director are watching a screening.
Network Hack: I love it. So when you show him going really slow, he is really supposed to be going fast? Yeah, the audience will totally get it.
Director: But, bu… bu… bu… that wasn’t supposed to …
Network guy: Oh, it totally works, so leave it in, okay?
Well according to special relativity, when you are travelling really close to the speed of light, everything else seems to slow down a lot.
Don’t forget her cyber-tail.
Eye, arm, tail.
Feel free to add.
Regarding Harem, it says:
Can teleport the original, making up to 5 copies.
Now, there are 5 pictures of Harem on the cast list, and 1 original plus 5 copies makes 6 people (assuming that is what DaveB meant).
So, where or who is copy no 5?
Also, Gwen does bear a passing resemblance to Harem/Daphne.
Perhaps it should say five bodies. There is the original (Thing 1) and 4 others.
it would make sense, even with teleportation, for her not to put all her eggs in one basket – if a quick area were to hit the building, she could be dead-dead, instead of clone-dead – In fact, it’d be really smart if there are actually 6 of her, and the last one she just keeps in hidden a village in Nepal or something
+1
If I were like Harem, I’d keep the un-modded real me casually out of harm’s way in civilian, non-publicised life and only make the copies do the work.
I keep my original body on a completely different world. What with super villain fights impending, the world is bound to be routinely in danger of destruction. Far too dangerous to risk my primary body there.
I don’t think Harrem HAS anything resembling a master body.
All versions hare Harem, and her brain is quantum entangled with all copys.
Even asuming the other copys survive the death of 1 version, it would cause massive emotional trauma, as all of them experienced death.
So that probably doesn’t work
Yeah, she has interchanged the main 5 so many times, and seeing how they are all ‘Daphne’, even she can’t tell (at this time) which one is ‘Primary’, she just picked one to remain relatively ‘un-modded’ (and there is nothing to say she couldn’t still mod ‘Thing-1’ and still *vorp* a ‘replacement’ un-modded)
‘Designated Survivor’, so to speak.
Supposedly, the US government (and presumably quite a few others) do something like this – keep at least one high-ranking government member very specifically NOT with the rest, just in case.
And that’s what eventually will get us stuck with a school-teacher (Secretary of Education).
entertaining as that would be, I have a hard time crediting puppy-like daphne with the willpower and foresight to maintain that kind of ruse for very long. Her teen-esque antics indicate a personality that’s mired in the eternal now, and lets the future come to her, rather than preparing contingencies…
just my .02
Just to clarify, we are talking about the double-agent traitor to Archon who has five times the life-experience that anyone else her apparent age has?
All Harem’s copies share what they are living on real-time. The in-boring-safe-place backup could just rest shut eyes and enjoy the spectacle.
Makes you wonder. If one of the copies gets some disease from anywhere, will the others get it too?
I can tell that you have the urge to place her in separate laboratories and run experiments on her.|
*Looks suspiciously at Legion Author*
Give the guy a break. A lot of us would like to do that, and she’d probably like it.
Actually, I was thinking more about the odd upcoming situation of where it could be prudent to send one or more copies of Harem into a dangerous , contaminated scenery.
Runaway nuclear reactor, outbreak of some top-notrch dangerous disease, chemical-spill…
Actually, she’s as vulnerable as an ordinary human so that wouldn’t work. On the other hand, Achilles lives for the times when he can show off and Maxima can probably do some Hazmat work without a suit.
So THAT’S why Dabblers eyes are two different colors. she doesn’t naturally have heterochromia iridis, she just made it look that way to get more attention.
This doesn’t means her heterochromia is unnatural to her. She could have been born that way and when she needed to replace the eye she could have decided to keep the look.
Huh. Seeing four of them in one comic, it strikes me that you’ve got a lot of characters with pink in their hair. An in-universe fashion trend? Or are they going to create one?
I suspect that pink hair is an in-universe natural hair color like brick red is in ours. There are a lot more people out there with brick red hair than there are with natural brick red hair.
And it’s been stated that Peggy dyes her hair, and Dabbles’ hair is just an illusion
Harem is described as naturally strawberry blond – so I’ve been going with Pink=strawberry blond. Much like bright red=redhead, and yellow=blond – it’s a close approximation, that looks better in a comic than trying to do a ‘natural’ shade.
So where did Sydney place her level-up? Enquiring minds want to know.
Seconded!
DO!
TELL!
Next page. I can only fit so much per page. :)
We gotta wait until Monday? BOO! ;)
at least it’s not a full week’s wait (For now at least)
the waitress is going to cry hard and break down
This entire dinner is going to go on notalwaysright, plus notalwaysworking (probably) and notalwaysfriendly (possibly).
Nah, it’ll go on their newest addition to the family: notalwayssuper :P
The more I see how Dabbler acts the more I think she and Sydney are best friends, in case anyone forgot this is still a flash back arc.
Well, she liked Syd almost first view :) https://www.grrlpowercomic.com/archives/626
Also, they (along with Maxima, I suppose) are the most ‘varied’ of the team, powers wise. That alone would allow for a lot more bonding time as they tinker with their abilities, practicing different cross-power techniques, trade tricks between each other…
Hmm if the grid couldn’t be seen by cameras or that cybernetic eye, there is more to that thing then I realized. Yes this is going to be a good chance to test my reasoning skills.
Both Gwen has (Magicly) and Dabbler has tried to scan the orbs and they were completely invisible to the scans. (As in they simply didn’t appear to the scans AT ALL)
Meaning the orb’s origins are more complex and deep then indicated.
yeah, when you get a result of “less than nothing” There’s SOMETHING going on =P
So you have to be very very careful about asking dabbler to “Keep an eye out”
(Being a succubus, I wouldn’t put THIS past her:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BKM2eqiQj-M )
The complete boxed set is on my list of ‘things to buy’, when my ship comes in. Superb series, which that clip gives a nice snippet of.
The eye thing made me laugh, mostly because I saw something similar in real life. I have a friend with a glass eye and we were at McDonalds one day. When the cashier turned away after taking our order, my friend decided to grab a napkin and wipe off his eye, which would tend to accumulate gunk from time to time. Just as he was wiping it off, the cashier turned back toward us. Not wanting to be seen cleaning the eye, my friend jerked a bit and moved his hand quickly away from his face. Unfortunately, this caused the glass eye to pop out of the socket, land on the counter, and start rolling toward the cashier. Boy, did she scream…
Congrats on the income! Making a living doing what you love is one of the best feelings in the world. You’ve put in the time (what is it, 2 and a half years now?) and the work (beautiful comic) and now you get the reward. Hopefully we can get you up to a sustainable income level! I’ll keep sharing, that’s for sure.
Shouldn’t Dabbler sit with the other pinkhairs
No dabbler has blue hair
No Harem has blue hair.
Harem has every hair colour. You just have to know where to look, as in which body.
No, she’s sitting with the adults
Kenya is right, while not Batman specifically Max do already used comic imagery to connect with Syd https://www.grrlpowercomic.com/archives/716
That could be the first comic induced ADHD treatment :)
And Syd really, really needs that, if you notice the evil/wicked smile in one of the frames of that reference page, then the Homer-mode.
That first frame made me think Kenya and Max were talking to us rather than to each other.
I frankly would sit down with Sidney and watch a bunch of MMA and Batman movies to get it through to her how strong she could be if she trained. This could backfire and teach her to become a supervillain, but it’s really the best way to teach her how much stronger she could be if she took the training seriously. Then again, she might take the training seriously, but in her own way and you’d have to tailor the training like in Kung Fu Panda. Sometimes teaching is more a matter of matching it to the subject.
Understandable, until you see frame 2 and work out that Kenya and Maxima’s eye-lines would have been pointing in Sydney’s direction.
Today’s comic is all about eyes.
Personally I would sit down with her and watch some good movies, then take her to a nice restaurant for a romantic candle-lit dinner, then…
Oh, some concern about her becoming a super villain? No problem, so long as she is having fun.
Then, perhaps a nice moonlit stroll, hand in hand…
Well if we’re doing this, I get Kenya. I loves me a woman taller than me, and at 6’4″ there ain’t many women taller than me.
I once said that if i could subscribe to this comic, i would. i just have one comment. Thank you for that opportunity. as always, a great comic. and of course, i love the twice weekly updating. :-)
That certainly explains why the eyes are different colors. I wonder if she’s going to pull a Last Action Hero and put in strange designs later in the story.
I never did get why that movie got such critical reception. I enjoyed it. Arnie did a good job. There were good production values throughout. Even the kid did his part well. And normally I hate movies featuring kids in leading roles. Being the first to cheer if one gets eaten by a monster. And I loved the fact that the movie took the piss out of the entire industry in general and Arnie himself in particular. I guess that folks just did not like him stepping out of his action hero niche?
I think Last Action Hero got too much flak myself. But I look at most critics and they like the artsy movies. I don’t usually care for the critics opinions because of that. Plus, I don’t think many people got that the really cheesy scenes in the movie inside the movie were supposed to be that way. I know, it should be obvious with the boy commenting on the ridiculousness. But some people are just obtuse.
I hear you. The one thing I am certain of about “pro” movie critics is that most of the movies they rave about are ones I would only watch at gunpoint.
They are industry hacks: paid to ‘toe the line’, like the OSCARs (only watch it now for the memorial for those who have passed on to the Great Stage in the Sky)
I was reading a review on the new Evil Dead thinking hmm, if this goes the way the original was reacted to, this should be hilarious. It was.
The guy opens up complaining about his job because he has to watch movies like this. I thought he was joking at first, but due to the consistent tone through the article he was being serious. Yeah, yeah, you’re so tortured, the way the employment scene is right now and you get to sit in an air conditioned room and watch movies. So much pain. Stop being a spoiled brat and tell us what you think of the movie.
A new version of the Evil Dead leaves a lot of stuff to review. You can remind the readers of the original and its status as a Video Nasty and how it shapes up so people can decide for themselves if they want to see a horror movie. No, instead he complains about how they killed an animal in the beginning. This was the entire article. Half a page of being upset about watching a movie with an animal sacrificed in the beginning. Not is it worth watching, is it scary, they killed a cat. I guess he missed the clue that bad things were going to happen with the name of the movie being Evil Dead.
Critics are worthless.
