Grrl Power #163 – No one appreciates a good defense
We’re not going to go through the whole team, this page and the last are just to show a bit of a demonstration montage, then show a few of the main characters, and scene.
The radio show didn’t happen again. At this point just pay attention to this space or the facebook or twitter accounts, if it looks like it will go down I’ll update on all 3, but I probably won’t know till late on Saturday.
Fans of superhero novels should be pleased by quite a few sequels coming out. Two of my favorite series have updates. Wearing the Cape has Young Sentinels, and Kid Sensation has Extraction (which is just a short story but it’s still good and hey, it’s only $.99. I’ve finished both and they’re great. Currently I’m reading The Trials of Renegade X, then it’s on to The Impostor #2: The Blood Machine, while we wait for the sequel to Confessions of a D-List Supervillain. I’m not so insecure to admit that I also really enjoyed Confessions author’s other novel, Rider: Spirals of Destiny, even though it was about tweenage girls riding battle unicorns. I would also be pleased with a sequel to that.
In other nerd news, any PC gamers that like FPSs should really check out the new Shadow Warrior game. I’ve been playing it a level at a time when I get a little time in the evenings and it’s really fun. Since it’s PC only, it’s looks REALLY good. Not to diss on the console platforms, but the hardware in them is 8 years old at this point, and Shadow Warrior takes advantage of the power of a decent gaming rig. The use of color in the game, and the high res textures really impressed me. I was walking through a cave in the game and just stopped and stared at the wall for a bit. It’s been a long time since I’ve been impressed with textures in a game. (Mostly because of memory constraints in consoles, and nearly every game is built for consoles first since they’re the lowest common denominator, then ported to PC) Thankfully the next gen consoles have a lot more RAM, so that will improve quite a bit in the next few years.
Shadow Warrior runs like lightning on my machine, and it’s almost 5 years old (with an nVidia 660 ti I put in at the beginning of this year). It’s made by ex-Painkiller people, and those guys definitely know their FPSs. They put out another PC only shooter a while ago called Hard Reset, and Shadow Warrior uses an iteration of that engine. Hard Reset has a demo on STEAM, so if you’re worried your machine can’t handle it, grab that demo and check it out.
Panel 6: 100% agree.
Would have been A-lot more effective if they had shot him with the tank.
Aww, poor Achilles. No showy powers means less love.
At least Suzie is polite enough to clap. I like her more and more.
I like her more than Achilles.
The more impressive demonstration would have been to drop the tank on top of him!
But digging him out from under it because he’s trapped there would have been less impressive.
Follow that up with the next guy kicking it away and Achilles popping up just fine.
no, no no, you need to have the super strong guy, beat the S#!t out of the tank with the indestructible guy
this. absolutely this.
I’d pay good money to watch that.
You sir, are a genius
+1
I’d have said: nuke him.
But your idea’s much better.
+1
nuking isn’t audience frendly, would be fun though.
Oh, yeah! Like when the Hulk thrashed Loki in the Avengers. Man, that was funny. “Puny tank.” Heh, heh.
Why did he draw Achilles so he looked like Owen Wilson?
Interesting that Achilles is wearing a comm-collar like the ladies prefer, instead of a throat-mike torc like Hiro was using a couple strips ago.
He doesn’t have a big neck like the other guys, so a collar is better
Is it Owen Wilson? I was thinking of that Vegas magician, what with the hand gesture.
Close. https://twf.com.au/imgcache/738.png
Oh. Dear. God. So much explained, all of a sudden. ;)
Hell, he has showy powers. He just chose the worst way to demonstrate them. Face-planting into a tank? Not terribly impressive.
He should have had Heatwave and Jiigawatt blast him. After their demos, emerging unscathed would have been a very impressive demonstration of his own power. After the fire and rescue guys hosed him down, of course, since he would have been half naked and the other half of his clothing would have been on fire
Although the question of kinetic force comes into account. If his body doesn’t absorb the force but instead deflects it, then by all accounts if he stood straight and a tank was droped on him one of two things would happen as all that force still has to go somewhere.
One: he would go through the tank like a needle as the force of the tank falling was all sent back to the tank
or
two: he is smashed into the ground like a peg as the ground absorbs all the force of the tank’s fall.
One possible problem: His clothes may not be as durable as he is. Given that we are trying to make a good impression here, blasting the clothes off a guy may not be the best way to go…
Bet he would’ve gotten more applause….
I think they would avoid that as while it would make HIM look impressive, it would downgrade their abilities. “What? They couldnt even hurt him! They are so lame. I guess beating up tanks is fine, but apparently they wont be useful against supers.” I liked the earlier idea of the strong man using him as a flail to crush the tank with.
excuse me, but what DO you say?
Anyone else want to see Maxima holding a tank, Stalwart running for it, and then Max pulls it out from him at the last second? Potentially with or without an “AAUGH” from Stalwart.
Yes.
seconded
yes. yes. YES.
With Stalwart wearing a “Weapon Brown” T shirt! Yes.
Love the Zidane sound effect!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zAjWi663kXc
sweet headbutt
I really hope that’s not all the demo Achilles gets
I don’t see him getting any more, that’s pretty much all he CAN do.
They can shoot at him. Now he’s just demonstrating he has the same power as a helmet
Oh sure, “they” can shoot him. . . but standing there and looking pretty is still pretty much all “he” can do.
I’d be impressed if he headbutted a tankshell
Oh, man. Now I can’t get this out of my head. After his underwhelming demo, a sympathetic Anvil goes to cheer him up. “You’re so pretty.”
Maybe if Stalwart had kicked the tank ONTO Achilles…
They could shoot him with a tank, but they already broke that toy…
So we finally see Giggle-Watt, er, Jiggawatt in action! Do not piss this woman off. I hope she does not lose control when asleep or when having sex. Hmm, Not “Man of Steel, Woman of Tissue Paper”, but “Woman of Lightning, man of … charcoal briquette”?
“I love the big brass bed, honey, but why is there a wire coming from the frame?”
“Oh, that’s a ground.”
“A what?”
“You did say you are fireproof, right?”
“Storm” of the X-Men.
No where near the scope for Storm’s power, although her lightning may be more powerful like-for-like. Full weather control includes wind, precipitation, temperature, pressure and other effects. Lightning is much more specialised than that. No mists to conceal, no ice to make foes slip, no rain to turn a field into a quagmire, no tornadoes etc.
It’s not just the power, that whole look in panel 1? That’s Storm! The hair, the eyes, the military style jacket over a bare midriff, the pose: I could pull out a back issue and point to a picture JUST like it.
Plus eyes all white. Can’t fault you on the visual similarities.
You know that similarity didn’t occur to me when I designed her. I just like putting weird hair colors on black women I guess. (see: Anvil). I may change her hair color though, because yeah she does look a little bit stormy in that first panel.
Maybe something along the lines of electric blue? I do love the hairstyle, though. Very “charged” … like it’s standing on end, without looking too goofy.
Electric Blue would be like Surge (gathered any and all forms of electricity from around her and could channel it into either lightning-like blasts or Speed Boost.)
Perhaps Platinum, not platinum blond but…. https://encycolorpedia.com/e5e4e2
“…a very light shade of yellow”
Honestly, it just looks light grey to me. How do they determine what color it is if it’s so close to neutral?
Adamas: I’m not familiar with Surge (and it seems my google-fu is weak) where is she from?
New Mutants.
https://marvel.wikia.com/Noriko_Ashida_%28Earth-616%29
Maybe something blue, spikey and “zot”-like? :-D
bride of Frankenstein streaks or blue streaks would be cool.
Perhaps layered white zigzagging streaks over a dark grayish black. To give the effect of internal lightning in cumulus clouds.
I don’t actually know what this looks like, but I am told that the effects when a black woman bleaches her hair (but nothing else) are noticeable. Perhaps that would be a good look for Jiggawatt?
My first thought was actually Electronique from Kim Possible.
Maybe it’s a generational thing.
When people say this I wonder how old they think I am.
About 16-21? My siblings watched that, and they are about in that age range.
…And I’m old enough to be their father. (Really need a ‘wow I’m old’ emoticon here…)
Imagine her with a big crackling white Afro and eyes like Zintiel. Hmm?
I love Jiggawatt’s discription. Long live Doc Brown
Heh, like how the “Flawless” fell flat. Even to the enthusiastic Suzie.
The final panel helps to reinforce that the heroes in this world do not have uber clothing which somehow gains super powers themselves. Kick a tank into the air with normal shoes and you end up with shredded shoes.
The next page was going to be some discussion about that as well as Hiro and Stalwart ribbing each other about fashion and explaining why he’s not in uniform and basically establishing some buddy cop stuff, but I reconsidered and skipped it so I could focus on the main characters. It’s too bad because it’s all the sort of character color commentary stuff I enjoy, but there’s so much other stuff I want to get too as well. If I could knock these out 3x a week I definitely would have kept it in.
For what it’s worth, I, for one, would’ve voted to keep that page – that’s exactly the kind of stuff you originally said you wanted to focus on in this comic, and I think it would’ve added wonderful depth, despite them being notionally “chorus-line” characters.
I agree with jee … such a page would certainly not hurt my feelings. Some of my favorite pages have been ones that show “background”. I’ve always loved character exploration.
Maybe next time you feel like letting a pannel out, you can replace it by a chibi sketch as a background event? It’s probably easier to draw and tells the story just fine.
Well it wasn’t a panel, it would have been a whole page of back and forth. I’d love to say I’ll go back and put it in, maybe for the book, but it’s still 16-20 hours or drawing to make it happen. We’ll see.
I say “go for it.” jee & Alathe are right, this IS exactly the kind of thing you originally said you wanted to focus on in this comic.
Or, give us a 4Koma… They work well in Manga. And the little excerpts at the bottom of the pages every now and then are sorta 4Koma style…
put it in the background of a later ater-show strip. You have main characters talking about this or that, and then behind them there’s a small-font conversation between Stalwart and Hiro.
Yeah that kind of character stuff would work with less art, as just two chibis maybe.
Or a background conversation where you just see the text or something (though then there’s a pile of faded out background speech bubbles covering everything up).
I agree. Besides, it’s more impressive. Like when Billy Jack takes off his boots … you know you’re in trouble then. :)
Achillies would have been better served if they’d tried to blow him up. The smoke clears and all that left is him standing with a strategically held tank wheel or helmet. Cue embarrassed looks from the journos, or Suzie could wolf whistle and get a glare from the rest of the crowd.
Ah, but would his clothing have survived being blown up?
Give the girls a show. I’m sure they wouldn’t mind too much.
Maxima could have just picked up the tank and hit him with it. That’d prove about the same thing.
Would take awhile for him to run back after getting hit like a baseball though
I would’ve done it like driving a nail into wood.
Not if either Maxima or Stalwart had knocked Achilles INTO the side of the tank…Maybe even hard enough for Achilles to leave a dent. At least the tank would’ve stopped Achilles from flying TOO far away.
What we need is a good old-fashioned fastball special. Max picks up Achilles and throws him at the side of the tank. We see him burst out through the other side (with or without clothes, based on reader poll).
Of course, we would need someone like Anvil waiting to catch him, or it would be a long walk back to the reviewing stands for him to take his bow.
Lightning bolt to the forhead? PPO to the chest? Maxima’s “kinetic shot” in the ass? The possibilities are endless.
if your gonna go that far, just have him sit on the tank for the rest of the event.
Awww, you didn’t mention Brandon Sanderson’s Steelheart. Not really about super heroes… more like villains.
Achilles should have let the tank shoot him. That would’ve been more impressive than headbutting a tank.
They need some other tank to shoot him, that one’s a wreak, but . . . yeah, it would have been impressive than headbutting a tank.
That would have ruined his clothes.
At least they should have started with him, invulnerability is not a showy power. He had no chance to impress anyone the way they did it.
Invulnerability can be showy, if you know how to use it (Kinetic force has to go somewhere)
the reason the human body can’t punch holes in concrete, bend metal, and such to a certain extent isn’t because we lack the strength, its because our bodies absorb and are damaged by the force more so than what we are hitting. If you didn’t have to worry about breaking your hand and your body absorbed none of the impact you could easily chip away concrete, dent most metals, and smash your hand through plate glass, bricks, ect…
It would be fairly easy to trick those who don’t understand how that works that you are superstrong…until you try to lift something that is as the thing allowing you to punch those holes doesn’t help with lifting anything.
And because of this Achilles is featured with 50% more strength than normal.
Good but not that much.
I guess his power only extends to his body so any showy attack is likely to ruin whatever he wears. I would have used automatic rifles against him in this show (unless ricochets are a problem).
Our body’s still do lack the strenght to bend metal though… Ofcourse you could break most stuff if you just hit it often enough, but that’s not really showy. And it would still be faster with a big hammer
I said “dent” not bend.
Poor tank. What did she do to deserve this?!!?
Nice to see Jiggawatt in the foreground for a change.
It was bought new and immediately declared surplus. Memos to the Joint Chiefs stating they don’t really need more tanks are being ignored by the Senate and they keep buying more unneeded tanks to help out their champain contributors.
I agree. Jigawatt has a pretty impressive forefront, just on her own merit.
well…let’s just say that the maintenance pool claims she’s a man-eater, and they’ve got the death certificates to prove it….
Heh… Stalwart’s “amazing resistance to knockback” line makes me think, “Oh, so he has 50 points of resistance to knockback?”
At first I was surprised to see that Anvil has lightning powers, but then I realized it’s a character that’s just making her debut.
We’ve seen her before a couple of times, as background character
With regards to superhero stories to read, you will want to take a look at the free online serial (already up to a thoroughly massive amount of content) located at: https://parahumans.wordpress.com/table-of-contents/
Skitter/Weaver in the GrrlPower universe… would be interesting to say the least.
Oh god, that would be a freaky crossover. I can’t decide whether Taylor would go insane with how carefree this universe is and how utterly insane everyone is, or if she would be the big super villain again, by accident.
Of course, Sydney would just be her usual nuts self.
I like how Stalwart doesn’t like to scuff his shoe.
The shoe he is holding will come out fine. The one on his other foot is receiving the 50 ton equal-and-opposite reaction and will be driven about three feet into the ground.
Naw. Necessary secondary superpowers will keep that other shoe fine. In fact, without those secondary powers, all he’d do is bury his other foot in the dirt.
I’m thinking Jiggawatt isn’t showcasing her flashiest bits of power, for it’d take something more than just summoning lightning to melt the main gun in two like that.
Sydney is proable the last to demonstrate her tank destruction power, because they don’t know how much damage she can do and don’t have a reserve demonstration tank.
What? No “pew, pew” demo from Halo?
The PPO is classified until Sid gets a handle on aiming and controlling the output, most likely. They held off demonstrating the Shield orb until Max could do some testing of it.
PPO isn’t on the classified list, and was stated to be one of the “obvious ones” that the public will know.
the classified ones are the two unknowns and the telepresence/comball.
pew pew demos from Halo AND Maxima are likely upcoming, with Halo last (and most destructive). Never start out the show with the showstopper and all that, build towards the encore. Plus, we haven’t seen Anvil’s kinetic absorption and redirection powers yet, which promise to be impressive.
I wonder if there will be a Halo demonstration……..intended since she joined team at last minute but overall I don’t think Sydney will sit down like a good girl and do nothing while all others are showing off so we will definitly see her ADHD power :P
First things first: Thanks to Stalwart the tank is now upside down. At this point Syd could use that coiled tentacle trick I suggested last week but flip it right side up this time.
Tentacle throw the tank into the air, then PPO it out of the air.
As long as Sidney makes the repulsor sound effect from the Iron Man movies.
What, you don’t think she’d do that? ;)
Phaser sound effect from Star Trek! I know it has changed some over the last few decades, but still…
“What I want is something that starts with an earthquake, and builds up to a finale.”
— Samuel Goldwyn
Just incase there are still people who didn’t see this on previous comments section (and yes if Dave is ok with it I will put this under every page until KS is over :P)
I just want to get your folks attention for a split second for something on kickstarter. More information about it is in the link but I will tell the short story behind project if anyone interested. I am posting this here becuase well Super Hero business :P
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/missingworldsmedia/the-phoenix-project-city-of-titans
Finally stuff stared coming together for them, great. Great I hope it works out. Show those stuck up ingrates at NCSoft what-for.
Jiggawatt seems less buff than her peers here. I mean, she’s still beautiful with a flawless figure- still cheesecake material- but she seems leaner than the other female members of Archon.
You’d think they’d have planned a better demonstration of Achilles’ invincibility, like getting shot at by a tank rather than him headbutting it. Those reporters would definitely be clapping if he’d done something like the “I blocked a cruise missile with my face” he bragged about (#384).
Yes. Why does Stalwart like to overdress? The ability to resist knockback is amazingly useful, but it does seem like too much of a gamer/gaming term. Can he be picked up and thrown by a sufficienly strong person or force?
Lastly, looking up when it was mentioned that Achilles once took on a missile got me to notice:
DaveB, your art was already good before, but it’s gotten even better.
Well IIRC both Blob and Juggernaut had something that resembles ability to resist knockback (for Blob it was about his ability to control his muscles and for Juggernaut it was something about unstoppable) so i say go for it :P
Actually IIRC Blob’s power was originally what amounted to control of his personal Gravitational field, basicly he “Locked” himself to the planet’s surface with the same force as a mountain. Jugs power is motion-activated. His mass would make him hard to move if he was standing, but he can’t stand at take what Blob could. Opposite ends of the spectrum.
Yeah, I’ve seen a fight when Blob gets hit so hard (even while he was planted) that he still suffered knockback, but a large chunk of ground he stood on went with him.
they’ve tangled a couple times. In the one you pointed out Blob could say HE didn’t move, what he was STANDING ON did.
“Why does Stalwart like to overdress?”
Wouldn’t you? I always feel pritty awesome in a suit
Stalwart is now the anti-Hulk. The Hulk is hunted by the government. Stalwart works for the government. When the Hulk goes into battle his clothes rip off. When Stalwart goes into battle he unbuttons his jacket and lays it folded neatly to one side. When Hulk gives a kick he flies into the air. When Stalwart gives a kick the object flies into the air.
DAMN. I really like this. That’s a good thought. O.B. Juan. :-)
Usually alot of “Energy” manipulators have a high metabolic rate, and even more so if they actively Generate the energy as well. Its very hard to build mass if you have to take in twice as many calories as normal just for your body to function.
When everyone done, is there going to be anything left of the tank?
lets see we are still missing…
Math : he can do the old kung-fu karate chop of slice in half on the tank
Dabbler : alien lazer pistils X4 or a magic missile or any of 12 other things I cant think off atm
Anvil : kinetic doomsday punch
Max : Fatality Lazer
Halo : PPO!!!!!!
Peggy : shoot it?
Mr. Amorphous : make funny faces at it damaging the tanks ego
Harem : …?
2-3 male characters we haven’t gotten names on yet…
and Leon who can put the tank back together when everyone is else is done XP
If Leon actually COULD put the tank back together again that fast, AND get it working, in a reasonably-scheduled press conference, I don’t think Max would really qualify as the most powerful super alive anymore. Cause that’s about a million parts that have been damaged, plus the frame, and I don’t even want to think about putting the barrel for the main gun back together.
On an aside note: Do Jiggawatt’s powers consist solely of control over lightning, and how do they work? Because the only way I can think of for her to exert that kind of precise control is with some kind of magnetic field or force line, and if she can do that, she can do literally insane levels of manipulation.
Additional Jiggawatt abilites:
She can weld metal (just like Heatwave)
Jump start any vehicle, anywhere
queen of ambush tactics (because lightning charge could be built up in an area before enemy got there)
Only person alive who could hurt Achilles (please note that I did not say “damage” Achilles–just because something hurts, doesn’t mean it damages you)
Set her lightning bolts to “stun”
destroy electronics
Generate EM pulse
Propel a space ship
Create a firebomb by passing the lightning bolt through water (thus splitting the water into hydrogen and oxygen). Admittedly, she would need a second shot to ignite the gas.
Disarm bombs from a truly safe distance.
Please note: most of these would require power control and very good aim. Of course, since she would have to have at least very good anyway, that would not be as much of a problem….
Well she’s not a main character, but who knows how the story will evolve. We will be seeing more of her though so I’ll keep a lid on her abilities until then.
I anticipate “JiggleWat” jokes in the future.
Or “Jiggatwat” jokes.
BTW there’s a “JiggleWatts” Burlesque Revue; https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/352886113/the-jigglewatts-burlesque-revue-2013-trail-of-blin
I would say no, but that might be optimistic should Maxima use full power.
She gives me a whole new idea of what it means to “get Jiggy with it”. Hmm. Think she can inscribe jewelry with those electrons?
Other superhero stuff that came out lately – the last chapter of this novel was just published on Tumblr. I really enjoyed it.
https://docfuture.tumblr.com/post/34152071413/flicker-phone-tag
To be clear I mean the entire novel is on Tumblr, but now it’s complete.
Complete, and awesome. I’m pretty sure I got the link here in these forums, and if it was you, thanks!
We don’t get to see Sydney blow up a tank?
They don’t know what the beam will do, so nope, not likely.
I think it would be cool to have Maxima blast/melt a hole through the tank, long ways. ie melted tank with just treads left, then have her hit sidneys shield
Better yet! Max melts the tank, and Syd was inside it the whole time clinging to her shield orb and reading a comic book.
They should have put achilles in than.
After Max disintigrates the tank, he yawns, stretches, and asks who interputed his nap
that would be the most awesome demonstration EVER
Maybe if Hiro picked it up and flew around at, oh say, 80 mph and let the rear of the tank hit him in the face.
hahahaha “ZIDANE”
Another new super on the team not in the cast page !
can all supers be given a basic intro on the cast page please.
people like me like to have reference material.
just a name and power list and which side they are on is good enough.
All the main characters are in the cast page. Give DaveB some time to update everything, he’s very busy.
Plus, there is only been one ‘side’ so far. The one Max and Sydney are on.
Jiggawatt is now my favorite superheroine. let’s just hope she never gets frisky with somebody with the same powers though. i hear ball lightning can be especially destructive.
Would add new meaning to “Arc-Light”
I heard she tried to meet someone like that once. She heard he lived in DC and was all amped up about meeting him. He sent her a note saying he was a real live wire and they could really spark it off. After a few more messages he had broken down her resistance. She decided Watt the hell, she had no current boyfriend.
The meeting turned out to be a real en-lightning experience. He told her to meet him at a bar near the Wheatstone Bridge. It turned out that he had just been discharged from prison. He was serving time for some stolen Joules. During the crime he committed battery and had to make a plea to avoid the Gauss chamber. When she heard his story she was shocked and told him she was looking for someone with more potential. Re-volted, she left for Ohm to watch a rerun of The Wire.
The moral of the story: Love Hertz.
*Anti-pun missile salvo leave mushroom clouds where you once stood*
shame he was hiding behind syd.
Impressive!
The puns, they hurt
*underground anti-pun drill pops up and explodes right under you*
I like the Achilles choker
How has nobody pointed out how disturbing super-powers like this would be in the hands of any government, let alone our government?
As reporters, they should bring up the question of whether or not supers would be used to suppress social and political uprisings in the event of a national emergency. Like, if Wyoming decided to become it’s own country or something, what’s preventing the President from ordering the supers to level Cheyenne?
There’s an endless number of “what if” scenarios the press could grill Arianna on, and those are super fun to explore. I love world building stuff like that, but it’s always a balance of moving the overall story forward and not bogging down on one thing. I certainly didn’t plan to have Sydney’s interview last almost 30 pages for example. We can presume the press got in to a number of what if scenarios with her while Sydney and Max were flying to or practicing at the firing range. And her and Sandy were answering questions on the trip over.
To answer your specific question about riots and what have you, the powers that be are very leery about using Supers against mundane populace for nearly any reason. There are already police / national guard and other forces in place to deal with things like riots, so Archon wouldn’t interfere with a civil gathering, even if it became un-civil. Unless – they had evidence that Evil Goatee Professor X was mind controlling people into rioting. Then they’d go after the super causing the problem. Of course, creating an ice wall or moving a bus in the way of mind-controlled rioters could help prevent damage and injury, but Arianna wouldn’t speculate about scenarios like that in front of the press.
There’s also the Conscientious Objection scenario, too; supers are real people in this universe, and the ones who would volunteer to help out Archon are wanting to help, so if they were ordered to level Cheyenne, I suspect many of them would conscientiously object…and block those who might think “sure, I’ll obey that order.”
I mean, Max strikes me as the most military-minded of the group (duh, officer of many years’ experience) and so you’d think she’d obey her orders, but she ALSO strikes me as someone who would protest an order to level Cheyenne, Wyoming. Or Topeka, Kansas, or Smallville, AnyState. Mind you, she’d probably suggest–strongly–that a surgical strike of just the rebel leaders would work, and be ready to carry it out (unless the rebels were rebelling for a very, very good reason, one that she believed in…but it’d have to be a VERY good reason), but I get the feeling she’d object to an outright leveling of a town filled with far too many innocent bystander civilians.
I think Conscientious Objection is not really accurate; As the military defines it, it means the Objector won’t participate in killing combat, even to save their own life. It’s a standard term used on the recruitment contract that is specifically asked.
However, all military personnel are required to take an Oath of Office under the US Constitution, just like all other Federal & State level Officers must do. More specifically for any military person, this Oath includes “protect, defend & uphold the Constitution” & “obey all lawful orders from designated superiors.” Notice that “uphold the Constitution” takes priority should the Oathtaker violate any of the terms & conditions of the Constitution, and should any “designated superior” issue an order that would result in committing a crime, it’s the duty to DISobey an UNlawful order.
Yews, I’m a veteran. I’ve been through all that by first-hand experience.
“Yews, I’m a veteran.”
Thank you.
How would calling in a Super to level something be any different from calling in the regular military to level something?
The effect is going to be exactly the same: A leveled something.
Being paranoid about an extra group that can do it serves no purpose, as there are already groups that can do the same thing
Be nice to Wyoming, ewitwins, you may pass through here someday…. and then you’ll be subject to OUR laws. Mwahahahahaha…. um I mean, it’s a lovely state!
Achilles should of caught a bullet with his skull LOL
Jiggawatt- New fave since I learned her name.
Dave…I’m beginning to feel sorry for that poor tank…that poor, poor tank…
Lol at the caption at the bottom.
I count 23 press there, should be an interesting ratings boost for the respective stations, which was probably how Arianna hooked them.
Is it just me, or did Stalwart just kick the tank on a few panels of reactive armor?
I’m no specialist, but isn’t that stuff supposed to blow on impact? Or is it on surface rupture…?
Achille might leave unscratched, but the sharpnels should be quite dangerous for Stalwart no?
Anyway, I’m pretty sure we are missing something there, but not really a Michael Bay type of ‘splodey…
the actual explosives were probably removed, that and Plastic explosives basically REQUIRE an explosion before THEY can explode.
Impact with a blut object would not be enough to detonate explosivesnitroglycerine
If there is reactive armor in there, it would be stable like C4, and not instable like nitroglycerine.
You can hit C4 all you want with a hamer, you can even shoot it, and it would not explode.
What detonates reactive armor in a tank is the explosion of a HEAT shell.
When I saw the foot, in panel 7, I assumed that it would be Math kicking hell out of the tank.
I have just found this webcomic, read through it all and I just want to say that I love it! I think it’s very clever, and funny, and generally entertaining. On this particular page, I adored the zidane reference. I was at the match when it happened and am delighted by your use (I’m aware that I said that already, just wanted to emphasise how great it is) so yeah. You are amazing. Thanks for all the work you must put in.
There’s a Giant Bronze statue of the “Zidane Moment”.
Thanks so much! Glad to have you!
The “ZIDANE” sound effect is awesome.
It also reminds me of Space Brothers. :D
