Grrl Power #1189 – Sydney and Parfait, sitting in a tree…
Hey Sydney, guess what happens if you invite (summon) an eager, young succubus over and hang out with her all night ogling boys and giggling and lounging around in PJs and talking about being an eagerly willing slave of a powerful Fiend lord? Oh wait, you already know.
Don’t worry, it’s not turning into that kind of comic. Or if that’s what you were hoping for, then… do worry, I guess?
What Sydney hadn’t considered is that Dabbler, for all her instigation, has her succubus nature pretty locked down. Parfait is actually still in Succubus Finishing School (Suc U). She’s doing her work internship credit with Thom. This incident might cost her a grade point in Power Control 201.
Succubi are famous vamps/honey pot/general seductresses, but they wouldn’t have that reputation if they were uncontrollably throwing themselves at the nearest warm bodies constantly. Becoming the Mistresses of Pleasure is a lot of what Suc U is about. The rest of it is all the advanced power refinements they can learn once they get their rampant randiness under control. That and advanced social acumen, manipulation, intrigue, etc.
The July vote incentive is finally up! There was a disagreement about digitigrade and plantigrade leg configurations. What better way to resolve it than a race?
And in the Patreon variant, what better way to resolve it than a nude race? You know, to eliminate uh… wind drag I guess?

Double res version will be posted over at Patreon. Feel free to contribute as much as you like.
Well, that escalated quickly.
Up until panel 4 or so I wondered if Parfait might be messing with Sydney.
Thinking that as well, unless next page she starts giggling into Sydney’s mouth…
I’m getting “Held Within” vibes. One of those very NSFW comics where a wish-granting artifact turns a college girl into a ‘vagenie’ who resides in her lesbian roommate master. Unlimited wishes, but they must be sex-related.
I can’t stop laughing over that concept. That is ridiculous and I love it
So, um, Parfait, this is sexual assault. And no, “I was too aroused and couldn’t control myself” is not a valid excuse for sexual assault.
well, on real-world earth, sure….
For all we know, fictional demon-worlds actually do have a ‘teenage succubus temporary insanity defense’, along with an ‘implied consent’ defense involving inviting a half-trained teenage succubus into your private quarters…
if we want to have BOTH real-world earth laws, AND visiting teenage succubi, we may need to create some sort of “chaperone collar” technology…
“On REAL WORLD Earth, sure… but in this made up universe it’s TOTALLY acceptable to violate people’s consent”
Really?
Also temporary insanity defense? You mean the defense that almost never actually works?
Parfait is under the influence of a magical mind-influencing effect explicitly designed to enslave her. She actually can’t control herself.
The closest RL equivalent would be being drugged without your consent with a drug that inhibits your impulse control. She isn’t at fault or morally culpable here, she’s basically a victim of mind control.
(It would be different if she could have expected this to happen and failed to take reasonable countermeasures beforehand, but she was summoned without warning and didn’t know what Sydney was going to talk about with her, so she couldn’t prepare any safety measures nor avoid the situation to begin with.)
I mean, she could have gone home or simply left the area or asked Syd not to ask about that when the subject came up. This is the sort of thing I would think she’d know might trigger a loss of control.
Also, while her species was genetically and magically engineered to be this way, this is actually a natural part of her physiology/neurology and not something externally applied. It’s a known thing to occur in succubi around her age, their culture pays a lot of attention to getting control of yourself, and she is going to school specifically to gain control over this (among other things, but that is one of the stated reasons for Succubus Finishing School). I’d argue drugs and mind control aren’t a valid comparison here.
I’ll bring in something personal to ground the topic a bit more in reality for perspective. I have anger issues, they don’t stem from a lack of control, but from an excess of rage, if everyone has an anger dial from 1-10 and 7 is where anyone would start losing control, I’m missing 2, 3, 4, and 6, most people can go their whole lives without clicking the dial up to more than a 4 or 5 before removing themselves, let alone all the way to 7, meanwhile after one click of the dial I’m as angry as some people will ever be in their worst moments and after two clicks I’m already at the point of no return. I’ve spent my whole life trying to master my rage and get as much control over it as humanly possible but there will always be the risk that I’ll go too far and wind up doing something to get thrown in prison (I’ve successfully avoided violence since I was 13, so more than half my life). There are probably drugs out there that could chemically induce a similar state of rage or in a fantasy setting there could be a magic spell that would cause someone to rage out like that, hopping directly to a 7 or higher on that dial. If someone was drugged with that rage drug against their will or had that rage spell cast on them without their consent and they go on to assault someone, I could see that possibly being an argument for them not being culpable since they didn’t choose to enter an altered state that would cause a loss of control. I also have never chosen to enter a state of rage beyond any possible control or reason, and in fact I go way out of my way to avoid it as much as possible, but because this is a condition I was born with, have known I’ve had longer than I can remember, and have spent my life learning to keep in check, if I go out, get mad, and beat someone up, I’m culpable, I’m going to jail, and I’ll definitely deserve it because slipping up like that is inexcusable irrespective of what kind of atypical brain I have or what sort of circumstances were going on around me.
In this circumstance Parfait losing control of her lust is like me losing control of her rage, sure her being descended from genetically and magically engineered sex slaves is no more her fault than my being born with an alphabet soup of neurological disorders is my fault, but at this point she should be well aware of what sort of things are likely to set her off and what she can and cannot control. Now, Sydney might not see it that way and this this could easily not become a problem like that, I’ve known plenty of people who have told me that if I lost my shit on them and hurt them they wouldn’t hold it against me (not that I have taken that offer or would take that offer, even if they wouldn’t hold it against me *I’d* hold it against myself), and I will say a kiss from a succubus is likely far more pleasant than getting punched in the throat by a large, angry nerd, so I’m sure that affects the odds on whether Sydney will hold it against her vs whether someone would hold it against me, but still.
You… do remember she’s still in Succubae equivalent of High School, right? She hasn’t learnt every Dabbles has
Sounds more like a college equivalent to me, but even if it is a high school equivalent she made a big deal of being (even if barely) a legal adult in their society, that means she has all the expectations and responsibilities associated with adulthood. When I lost myself to my anger and got violent in elementary school I got in trouble but was still treated as a kid still learning so it wasn’t a huge deal, in terms of consequences, if I was still letting myself lose my control to the point of violence in high school, especially after turning 18, the police would have been involved and I’d have almost certainly spent time in juvie or jail (depending on my age and the severity) if I assaulted someone. She is not a child.
And for the record, I’m not saying I expect her to have perfect control, because *I* don’t have perfect control, despite my control being WAY better than it was 9 years ago when I was her age. I’m saying that her slip in control doesn’t get a free mind control pass as far as culpability goes. She’s responsible for any action she takes, even when her neurochemistry runs away with itself and alters her state of mind, just like I am when mine does. This is about culpability, liability, responsibility, whatever you wanna call it. If someone else drugs you without your knowledge and consent then you shouldn’t be held responsible for what you do while in an altered state of mind, which is basically the argument being made that I was responding to, whereas if you willingly and knowingly do drugs and do something bad while in an altered state of mind, you’re still responsible for the actions you took while under the influence, which also isn’t a great comparison to this situation, hence why I brought in my rage issues as a better point of comparison, but it’s more applicable than being unwilling drugged to the situation at hand, as far as personal responsibility and legal culpability goes.
Not saying she gets a free pass from consequences, just people have to stop judging her based on Dabbles (her age and experience being a fully {if miss-behaving} trained succubae) and actual-Earth’s morals
The only one experiencing being drugged is Parf; Sydney is, so far, just being kissed by a drugged Parf
I wasn’t judging her based on Dabbler, I was saying this isn’t like being drugged and that she’s still responsible for her actions when she loses control of herself. If anything is the basis for my judgement it is my own experience living with a similar condition.
Also, it’s a lust *aura*, while it’s clearly affecting Parfait much more severely than it’s affecting Sydney, it is absolutely affecting Sydney at least to some extent given their proximity and the fact that she explicitly lost control of an aura effect. I’d wager that’s contributing to Sydney not immediately going for her shield, her judgement isn’t so compromised that she’s doing things she normally wouldn’t, but her judgement is likely muddled, hence why she’s mostly responding with confusion when she should know what she needs to do here, which is bubble up and call Dabbler.
> I mean, she could have gone home or simply left the area or asked Syd not to ask about that when the subject came up. This is the sort of thing I would think she’d know might trigger a loss of control.
I don’t think this kind of thing (talking about the subject) comes up often outside of a more clinical school setting – most people she’d be expected to meet either already know it or aren’t allowed to. Normally the fetish would be triggered in the presence of the master, who then says “sit down”, she orgasms from obeying and gets to cool down. It makes sense for her to not expect it to happen with no master in sight. So I think it’s a reasonable blindspot.
In her position, I wouldn’t have expected it to come up during movie night with a straight same sex friend, and sure, she can play it safe – but that means she isn’t allowed to go out at all, which doesn’t feel reasonable either.
> she is going to school specifically to gain control over this
Note the present tense. She is still in the process of learning control. She would probably considered a minor with reduced responsibility. If someone experienced like Dabbler or Decollete loses control like that, I’d be less hesitant to blame them, because they should have learned everything about it. But she’s more like 13 year old Psychie than current Psychie.
No, she’s more like an 18 year old Psychie than a current Psychie, she’s an adult in her society, she made a big deal about it the first time she showed up. And while I have better control now than I did at 18, if I lost control and assaulted someone I’d still go to jail at her age. Heck, the cops absolutely would have been involved if I had lost control in high school the way I frequently did in elementary school, whether that was anywhere in the 14-18 range I was there.
While it is entirely possible that the magic component makes learning to control this side of herself a rather different process, one of the most important things to learn behavior-wise when learning to deal with a condition like this is to be aware of what can set you off, to learn to recognize the earliest signs of escalation, and the best course of action to take to cut things off before you reach the point of no return. Now, I have been blindsided by my buttons being pushed in circumstances I never would have expected them to be pushed, and I have been blindsided by things I didn’t expect to be buttons, and that’s why I have a plan for those situations. If she really hadn’t expected this line of conversation to set her off (which is possible, I admit), then when she first noticed her speech bubble was pink she should have warned Sydney to be ready to defend herself, at which point Syd would have bubbled up, or at the very least she should have tried pulling away from Sydney with her last bits of control while she was asking for a sleep potion (or instead of asking for a sleep potion if she didn’t have the control for both).
I agree that it is reasonable she wouldn’t have been as prepared for this scenario as I would have been for my equivalent at her age, if only because this scenario is wildly outside of her realm of experience, so I don’t necessarily blame her for not having a good enough plan, I do blame her teachers, and I still hold her responsible for her actions since she *is* an adult, irrespective of her level of education. There is a difference between blame, fault, liability, and responsibility. I don’t blame her, but it is at least partially her fault, she is liable for any repercussions this might have, and she is responsible for what she does while in this condition. That doesn’t mean I condemn her for it, or even think poorly, she made a mistake, one I can absolutely empathize with, it’s just one that can have potentially severe consequences. I’m just pointing out that her lack of experience and circumstances of birth don’t absolve her of her actions.
I am really hoping Dabbler shows up next page to stop her sister before she goes any further and to make sure Sydney’s okay. Or at the very least that Sydney manages to bubble up and call Dabbler for assistance in getting her sister the help she needs right now.
> No, she’s more like an 18 year old Psychie than a current Psychie, she’s an adult in her society, she made a big deal about it the first time she showed up.
I think you’re misremembering that – when she first showed up, the author blurb mentioned she was 18 in https://www.grrlpowercomic.com/archives/comic/grrl-power-1045-return-of-the-attack-of-the-boobs/ (which I believe was more for the sensitivities of the readers), but I couldn’t find any mention in the story itself, nor any reference to her being an adult succubus.
Conversely, it’s clear that she’s not fully grown – she is shown to still be learning abilities like wish-granting or hypnoboobs, and indeed the slave compulsions. Add to that her immature personality and it seems very clear that she’s not supposed to be an adult.
Additionally, we know the succubus stuff only starts at puberty, so the first 10 years or so of her life don’t count for this. At 13, you got it under control – Parfait was confronted with it for the first time.
> one of the most important things to learn behavior-wise when learning to deal with a condition like this is to be aware of what can set you off, to learn to recognize the earliest signs of escalation, and the best course of action to take to cut things off before you reach the point of no return.
I now realize that there’s a pretty big difference here. For Succubi, it isn’t a condition they have to learn to deal with, it’s something they defeat as part of growing up. Dabbler can hold a lecture on the topic and sprinkle it with innuendo without a second thought, because she has herself so firmly under control she doesn’t need to worry about it. We don’t teach toddlers to recognize the early signs for temper tantrums and avoid situations where they’re likely, we teach them to control their emotions.
You need to prepare workarounds for something that will likely never go away – Parfait can expect it to go away with enough training, so how much time should she spend training for workarounds that could be used solving the root problem instead? She clearly knows the basics of what she’s supposed to do, as she should, but we agree that this situation probably isn’t be on the List Of Common Situations Young Succubi Need To Be Aware Of.
I do not think she’s entirely blameless – she could have talked to Tom or Dabbler or a teacher, who then could have told her to keep a Nimora Salka ready just in case, but on balance it’s a very understandable oversight.
Okay, yeah, that’s fair. I do think it might be nice to have some clarity on when a succubus is considered an adult vs when they’re considered fully grown, as even in us humans those are two different things, as adult is a cultural thing while fully grown is a mostly biological thing that culture sometimes chooses to recognize as distinct and sometimes does not. And it’s further muddied by the fact that some parts of the body are fully grown potentially even as far as a decade before other parts. The brain usually finishes it’s development around 25, but puberty can be completed anywhere between 15 and 20 (IIRC), but usually between 16 and 18, and some body parts can finish developing toward the start of puberty or toward the end or even keep developing a bit beyond puberty, like height, breast size in women, and penis size in men. But the brain is usually the *last* part of the body to complete it’s transition into the adult version, well after puberty is completed.
No, it is not, but Parfait is a succubus, which Sidney is all too well aware of and Parfait repeatedly stated that she still lacks control. And Sidney was able to defend herself easily, remember both Dabble and Parfait being pushed away and toppled by her shield?
You’re right, not only was it irresponsible to invite the succubus to her home, she probably drank too much as well. And look at what she was wearing!
Did we forget any of the victim blaming starter pack or do we have it all covered?
Parfait is a succubus. She is not human, so none none of that applies. Would you blame a tiger for mauling you, after you ignored the growly undertone, just because the tiger happens to be able to talk?
I don’t think suggesting that a person is no better than a literal animal is the saving grace that you think it is.
… You do know that people (‘hyu-mons’) are, literally, animals, right?
Someone being able to defend themselves and being too flustered to do so is not a green light. “She could have pushed me away or stopped me at any time” is not consent. Also, I’m not sure Parfait’s references to her lack of control prior to this incident where she is actively losing control were clearly about her lust aura and not just her magic in general. I certainly don’t recall taking it that way. Also, it’s a lust *aura*, the second she lost control Sydney was almost certainly under the influence of mind affecting magic, so another reason she’d be less inclined to think “I need to shield myself to protect myself from a magic kiss attack from my friend whom I generally trust that is suddenly acting weird”.
> And Sidney was able to defend herself easily
Assuming she can resist the lust aura.
We would probably need a legal system that accounts and adjusts for magic.
On the one hand, there seems to be an actual lack-of-control-issue here (basically the neurochemisty version of being drugged).
On the other hand, summoning a succubus has to count, at the very least, as something like negligent consent (if there was such a thing) on Sidney’s part.
Not the neurochemistry version of being drugged, a better comparison to a real world thing would be having a neurological disorder that results in lack of self control under certain circumstances, such as my rage issues. Just as it’s my responsibility to not let myself get to the point of rage where I can’t control myself irrespective of what people around me might be doing, it’s Parfait’s responsibility to not let herself get to the point of lust that she can’t control herself. I didn’t choose my rage anymore than she chose to be a succubus, both of them are in-born traits, but that still doesn’t make it the equivalent of being drugged when we lose control.
The drugged comparison for mind control only applies when the mind control is from an external source, if it’s a condition you grew up with in a culture that has methods you are expected to learn to manage/control it and you are going to school to learn those methods, a loss of control isn’t from an external source, irrespective of how your species was created thousands of years ago.
A couple of issues with this assessment; from the looks of it came on way too quickly for her to take any counteractions we’re talking about in a matter of seconds, also this isn’t really comparable to any psycho- or nero-anything. This seems closer to an allergic reaction or a diabetic attack a chain reaction that once it happens it needs a very particular action to stop, which I might point out Parfait tried to do, which unfortunately happened way too quickly for them to get the necessary medication.
Except her loss of control isn’t merely dangerous to herself, it’s dangerous to the people who happen to be around her. She’s still responsible for her actions while in this altered state. My argument was about responsibility/culpability.
My grandfather was diabetic and he once had an episode where he hadn’t taken his insulin and drove around while his mind was addled, thankfully he didn’t hit anybody or anything, but if he had he still would have been legally at-fault for any damages caused. Same thing if someone has an allergic reaction while behind the wheel, if them going into anaphylaxis causes them to crash into another car, they are deemed at-fault and thus responsible for the damages (or at least their insurance is).
> I don’t recall any prior reference to a succubus’ lust aura altering their own state of mind in any significant way. Personally, I had interpreted prior references as the lust aura slipping out when they didn’t mean for it to and making everyone around them horny, or accidentally setting the intensity too high for what they were trying to do.
I think you had the right impression originally. I think what happened to Parfait was not the lust aura, but the “programming” intended to control her by making her love slavery, part of/related to the compulsion to make her obey her master. The lust aura then came out in response to her losing control of her own libido, worsening the problem because it affects Sydney’s ability to deal with the problem (with a clear mind she can use her powers to safely restrain Parfait until she calms down, roofied perhaps not) as well as potentially affecting third parties.
Parfait explicitly said that that being able to fight that is something succubi need to learn, and she was succumbing to it and getting slightly handsy with Sydney before she released her aura in panel 4/5.
This doesn’t change your conclusion, because Sydney wasn’t aware of that either. After all, the whole situation came about specifically because she had a question for which it was the answer.
It could be, if you are a succubus.
This is literal magic, making her do that. Pretty sure “supernatural influence she is trying to fight and tried to find a solution against” doesn’t count. Anyway, the cavalry will be arriving soon-ish.
Sydney doesn’t seem the type to press charges, I mean she has let slide everything that Dabbler and Daphne have done/suggested.
She requested a sleep potion (indicating her distinct intent to *stop herself from doing anything*) and lost all self-control at this stage. Legally speaking, an automatism defense would probably work here, which would negate not only mens rea (criminal intent) but also actus reus (criminal act), since for a criminal act to have occurred, the action has to be voluntary on the part of the actor (so if someone puts a gun in your hand and physically forces you to shoot someone, you have not performed a criminal act because there was no voluntary action on your part, even if your finger pressed down on the trigger, or if a baby carriage somehow hits your knee in a way that causes a kneejerk that makes your foot hit the baby in the head, you are also not considered to have committed a crime because the kneejerk was completely involuntary, or if you were traumatized and someone somehow provokes your trauma to such a degree that you blank out and reflexively lash out at them, and so on). In essence, the automatism defense argues that you did not possess the ability to act under your own will and thus your actions cannot truly be considered yours from a liability perspective and you cannot be held as having “done” a crime. (This is a bit simplified, but I hope this gets the gist of it across.)
The reason “I couldn’t help myself” generally isn’t considered a valid defense isn’t because “I couldn’t help myself” is an invalid excuse (it is very valid to say that you can’t be held responsible for whatever your body did when you had genuinely zero control, unless you deliberately put yourself in that condition) but because usually people are full of shit when they say that and *did* have a degree of consciousness and volition that they are attempting to disown in order to disown the responsibility for their actions alongside it.
There *are* a lot of gray areas associated with automatism defenses, temporary insanity defenses, involuntary intoxication defenses, and so on.
No one is physically forcing her. And we’re not talking about a reflexive action either. Fruthermore, by Parfait’s own admission, the effect that she would be supposedly undergoing is an instinctive reinforcement to please her owner. Sydney is not her owner, and her owner is not here. So unless her owner gets off on Parfait raping unwilling humans, I don’t see how that defense applies, and even then it would merely offload the wrong doing to Thom or whatever his name is.
Automatism isn’t about whether or not she is being forced, whether physically or magically. It is only about whether or not she has zero conscious control over her actions. A well-known scenario for an automatism defense is murder committed during sleepwalking, for instance. At this moment, she made a distinct plea to stop herself from doing anything before she lost herself anyway, meaning that Parfait intends to avoid doing this, and it has been made abundantly clear that Parfait has non-human levels of arousal because of neurophysiological issues unique to being a succubus. As for the reinforcement, it produced general arousal in Parfait and it appears to be a function of Parfait’s succubus neurology, not anything Tom is doing. She simply set it off by thinking too deeply about that when she was already aroused because she and Sydney were doing horny stuff (watching hentai porn, ogling guys, shopping sex toys, etc.), making her unusually susceptible to a spiraling loss of control.
An automatism defense also does not necessarily “offload” responsibility to another party. It simply disavows that the person in question had responsibility, which can result in nobody being at fault. Sometimes horrible things do happen where there really is no person at fault for it. You can’t charge the sky with a crime for a giant tornado destroying your home and murdering your family either. You wont find a guilty party there no matter how hard you try to find someone. (Although in ancient times this is how sometimes people ended up sacrificing someone to placate the gods’ wrath.)
You raise an interesting question: why are we so desperate to find someone to blame, when it doesn’t really solve anything?
An automatism defense would probably be a clusterfuck here, to be honest. Parfait is likely conscious but uncontrolled, and there is no legal guidance on succubus-specific neurological issues. I guess US law wouldn’t really accept automatism owing to the presence of consciousness. English law could well accept an insane automatism defense.
Anyway, going over the more basic point, Parfait is really not in control of her actions here and would rather stop herself if she could, so pinning responsibility on her for what she is doing now is probably too much.
> No one is physically forcing her.
No, but in a world with mind control that’s not the only way to force people to do things.
> effect that she would be supposedly undergoing is an instinctive reinforcement to please her owner.
The point of the effect is to make her obedient to her owner, and more importantly, what we’re seeing is a side effect of it. That the mind controller didn’t intend this doesn’t matter. They’re responsible for the effect and therefore the actions of the controlled victim.
> it would merely offload the wrong doing to Thom or whatever his name is.
We don’t know the name of the long dead mage who built that effect into succubi, but yes, they’re the one at fault. Her current leash holder Thothogoth, meanwhile, isn’t involved at all.
Whoops, looks like she is caught in a feedback loop and can’t handle the build up she is experiencing without a proper outlet or something external to snap her out of it.
If there will be ever any (18+) what-if spinoff comics of Grrl Power I know now what one of them will be at least.
Yeah the rule 34 potential here is pretty much off the charts. As for all the comments about assault…… Welcome to dealing with alien cultures, people. They’ve been saying for months now that their ways are not our ways…..
It’s a familiar feedback loop. Even for humans.
Though it would also be funny if Parfait were just messing with Sydney at this point.
Yes, sexual assault is hilarious /s
No, funny would be Dabbler running in (her porno sense was tingling!) and playing clamjammer by hosing them down with the only cold thing she had handy… a fire extinguisher full of whipped cream.
“Why do you have a fire extinguisher full of Cool Whip?”
“It worked, didn’t it?”
” I ’m a professional succubus, of course I always have one ready.”
It would be pretty funny if Math were to put a stop to it by rushing in and hosing them down, but without the intent of doing so.
Which is it? Cool Whip or Whipped Cream? They’re not the same thing. :P
Or depending on whom you ask at least it would have been funny until panel 6.
Ok, Sydney is about to be graped, it’s already sexual assault. If this is going where it appears to be going, she cannot consent. This is one of the reasons I cannot stand Dabbler, she does this lust aura crap without event he excuse of being new. Remember her introduction? Gross.
At least with the aura, people are still directing their own actions, no matter how manipulated. Here it’s a completely one-sided act by Parfait with Sydney as a completely passive participant. The aura at least can make it a gray area, this is just straight up assault no doubt about it.
Dabbles knows when she is pushing things too far and she stops, either through her own control or because she does it to someone who can do it for her (like Maxi)
Dabbles is a grown adult, with centuries of experience in controlling herself. This is a girl who was summoned there – meaning that “consent” is already questionable going in the opposite direction. Parfait gets a little bit more leeway than an experienced adult. Especially given that Sydney (the adult in the room) is fully aware of what a succubus is, and of the risks involved. She created the situation, and accepted the potential consequences.
Yes, that too ^
Parfait is *also* a grown adult, just a much younger one. She even made a big deal about it when she was first introduced because Dabbler was treating her as a child/minor when she *is not*.
Also, I could be remembering incorrectly, but wasn’t it made clear at some point that she *can* refuse a summoning? Additionally, it’s pretty safe to assume that she wouldn’t be handing out a business card with her summoning pattern if she had no way to get herself home. She wasn’t kidnapped, she gave Sydney the ability to summon her, suggested she use it, accepted the summons when she received it, and has had the ability to leave of her own volition this entire time.
Also, Sydney was not fully aware of this risk as she had no way to know that this kind of loss of control was something to be wary of. Dabbler didn’t tell her, and any prior references to lack of control seemed to suggest it was in reference to their powers, not their personal actions. I get the impression Sydney had the same misunderstanding.
So it’s ok to sexually assault someone as long as they knew the risk of hanging out with you is that they might be sexually assaulted? Has that defense ever been tested in court?
Was your comment intended to be responding to the person I was responding to? Because I was arguing against the same position you are arguing against. Unless you’re somehow trying to say that Sydney is the one sexually assaulting Parfait here? Because that’s simply absurd, Sydney is largely ignorant of Succubus physiology, psychology, culture, and history and asked a question about it to try and fill in those gaps, Parfait then proceeded to start putting fingers in Sydney’s mouth followed by her tongue. Sure she announced she was losing control over herself immediately after explaining that was a possibility, but the idea that Sydney could be interpreted as taking advantage of Parfait in this situation is ludicrous.
So you didn’t say what you literally said. Ok, understood.
Pardon me, but I must be having a persistent and consistently coherent hallucination because I can’t seem to not see you saying, and I’m copypasting here meaning my computer must be also hallucinating… “Sydney was not fully aware of this risk as she had no way to know that this kind of loss of control was something to be wary of.”
If losing control isn’t a justification, then there’s no reason to even make it a topic of discussion.
“Dear Penthouse,
I never thought this would happen to me, but…”
This may be a second…um, third…sexual awaking for Sydney, and dear goddess, please let Dabbler intervene before this becomes something very, very nonconsensual, or otherwise gets Sydles in trouble & Parfait banned.
Sorry to say this but, eh? I am losing interest in the comic. The artwork is, at this time, holding my interest. I did not see any follow-up on the point that was automatically put in. What happened there?
You are a troll, your name links back to this page
Be Gone!
Then instead of wasting our time, just leave rather than trying to get attention. This isn’t a porn site, might I suggest chaterbate?
Quick, pull up your shield!
Won’t work since both are in close contact, the shield will emerge around them, effectively obsolete.
But, as shown during the Restaurant Rumble, it could, potentially, cut Parf off from whatever is causing the feedback lust (if it’s triggered by something external, even intra-dimensional? remember how Daphne felt when she was first Buble’d? also how she can’t pass through via *VORP*)
What’s happening to Parfait is inherent to Succubi, so probably anchored to or even part of her body.
Well, then it should at least stop the Lust Aura from spreading like Kev’s Aggro Aura did when Buble’d with Sydney
True, that would at least limit collateral damage.
If Sydney puts up her shield it’s going to cover her *and* Parfait and no one will be able to stop them.
I guess Sydney should’ve consulted Dabbler on the succubus summoning instead…
She should probably have consulted Dabbler with Maxima as a chaperone.
I feel like Dabbler would have been a sufficient chaperone, as while she might encourage sexy shenanigans, she’d absolutely reign in her sister’s loss of control before it got to this point. While she seems to take a looser stance on implied consent than Maxima and she’s clearly willing to use coercion to get out of a bad situation, when doing sexy fun she’s consistently made it a point of ensuring everyone is having a good time and doesn’t leave regretting the things they did, even if she uses her lust aura to move things along sometimes, she’s never used it to have people do things they aren’t comfortable with doing, at worst she’s used it to make people uncomfortable/annoyed, but she backs off when she sees they aren’t into it, or at least doesn’t push further. And for the record there is a difference between “makes someone uncomfortable” and “makes some DO something they’d be uncomfortable with”. Her only uses of actual coercion were emergency situations where violence was otherwise considered acceptable so she used a tool in her arsenal.
Considering their racial history with sexual slavery, I’d imagine consent is a pretty big deal for them, even if they have a more nuanced take on the subject than we do, and that take is pretty well backed up with basically everything we’ve seen of the succubi thus far, even and especially Dabbler.
I think that Decolette would make a better chaperone
Oh for sure, but she’s not part of Archon, isn’t Parfait’s sister, and is only an acquaintance of Sydney as opposed to a close friend like Dabbler is, so while she’d likely be more effective/respectful, she isn’t likely to be given the opportunity. Dabbler would still do an effective job at making sure boundaries aren’t crossed, though, despite what some people think of her.
Should’ve consulted Zeph. Not that Gwen was that bad an idea.
Consulting Dabbler would just result in a 6 week long exposition on why summoning Parfait could result in sexual assault and why it’s totally morally ok for that to happen, because apparently Earth is a prudish monoculture that’s so sexually backwards that they have concepts like “informed and enthusiastic consent”, when the rest the CIVILIZED universe is sexually liberated to the point that rape is an every day occurrence that’s seen as being ok, hell, before coming to Earth, Dabbler did it at least 6 times before breakfast.
This might be a cause for Sydney to whip out (yes, pun) the lighthook and use it to put a very delicate restraint on Parfait. And that might help only in limited ways, Parfait could see that as a collar. Or being the part-smoke entity she seems to be, it might not work at all.
And how to work this out? Calling in Dabbler to ask how to deal with a slightly off the hook succubus might work (Dabbler has the knowledge), but at the same time, Dabbler might bring popcorn…
This calls for the bucket of icewater and a healthy dose of “Applied mathematical structures in 4 dimensions, boring edition – uncut”
I really don’t know why people think Dabbler wouldn’t stop her sister from losing control all over her friend. For as much as Dabbler likes to push boundaries this is pretty clearly different, her only instances of actual coercion were in emergency situations where violence was otherwise acceptable and a “mind whammy” is a very efficient tool in her arsenal. Her only other uses of lust aura stuff were in cases where the other parties were consenting and the aura merely moved things along or increased pleasure, and cases where she used it to make people uncomfortable but not to make them DO anything they’d be uncomfortable with having done. She wants everyone to have a good time, and she likes annoying the prudes who she thinks should loosen up and have a good time, but she recognizes that FORCING sexy times is not actually a good time for everyone involved.
This is her little sister actively losing control of herself and engaging in an activity she otherwise would not (at least not without everyone having a good time, which this clearly isn’t), and her good friend Sydney who also does not want to be doing this.
Given their racial history of sexual slavery, I’d expect them to consider consent a very important thing, even if they clearly have a more nuanced view on the subject than we do, and basically everything we’ve seen of succubi thus far supports that expectation.
In this case, it’s a bit of a comedic approach (it’s a comic after all), but if things do develop in a more normal way, the one responsible for Parfait losing control can expect a visit from and a stern talking to by probably both Dabbler and Maxima.
Those two might antagonize each other every now and then, but in this case it’s probably going to be “Big Sisters helping Little Sisters” where Big Sister A and B are both capable of seriously inconveniencing gods, greater demons, alien warships etc.
So the one responsible is going to be very sorry.
Parfait is the one responsible, she knows she doesn’t have great control yet, she knows (or should know) that thinking about the collaring process and why she likes it can set her off, and she didn’t warn Sydney that this was a possibility, take precautions should this happen, or simply tell Sydney to ask Dabbler because she might lose control if she focuses on the topic too long. This isn’t a case of Thom pulling on the leash to set her off with no warning, this isn’t a case of someone else doing something to her, this is a known feature of her physiology that she was in the process of explaining.
I think even in the usual comedy of this comic Dabbler wouldn’t be so flippant as to grab popcorn and enjoy the show in this situation, that would be wildly out of character for her. She’d stop her sister from making a mistake and then make sure her friend was okay.
The problem, of course, is that the “lust aura” is obviously effecting Sydney, too. and this doesn’t have to progress very far before she won’t want it to stop. Though she might have regrets afterwards.
OTOH, I recall that even when she zoned out over Parfait before, she’d apparently been conscious the whole while, just not in control. In fact, she could still control the orbs!
So, yeah, maybe the body will be on autopilot while the light hook is speed dialing Dabler…
Last time it was the hypnoboobs, which is different from the lust aura. Hypnoboobs just zonk you out, lust aura makes you actively horny.
Maybe they’re different, maybe they’re not. Or… maybe they’re just different for Sydney, because of the orbs?
It’s possible that the orbs create a sort of backup/emulation of the user’s mind, that automatically takes over orb control if the user gets mentally disabled by an attack. And that’s why Sydney had control over the orbs while zonked out by the hypnoboobs; It was really emergency backup ‘Sydney’ taking action.
Or, alternately, succubus mental control works by supercharging the hind brain’s command authority, so that it takes over control of the body, and your higher mental faculties are just along for the ride. But the orbs, being directly controlled by the frontal lobes, continue to be under conscious control even if your body is operating on autopilot.
Anyway, it would be hilarious to see the orbs create a ball of water over their heads, and drop it, which is well within the life support orb’s capabilities, and would be in keeping with what Sydney suggested in panel 4.
I think you’re overthinking this. The scene was just Sydney being pulled out of the hypnosis by Parfait and Dabbler making fun of her, and then holding her body still while sneakily using the orb to surprise them to better get back at them.
Seems like Sydneys taste in partners is far from vanilla.
Lust aura. She has no option but to be attracted to Parfait, same way Max has to remind herself she’s not a lesbian when Dabbler does it. Which is messed up, Dabbler is kinda gross. I can’t wait for Dave to handwave away the massive issues with this scene like he did with Dabbler and the hairdresser super.
I’m sorry, I mean no offense but is what you are doing what the English people call… coping?
For real though, I don’t know if I’m using the word right.
“Coping”, as it is often used on the internet, is when you try to negotiate with reality by using selective perception to render it more acceptable to your views. There is also coping in the more ordinary sense, where it just refers to learning to no longer be agitated by whatever has been bothering you. In either sense, this is not coping. This is more like passive-aggressive venting, or whining perhaps (but calling something whining carries negative connotations).
INITIATE THE CHEESE SHIELDS!!!
Is it just me or has Sydney’s face changed a bit?
Probably artistic-drift
I’m staring to wonder. Was that just a summoning spell, or a break-and-recollar spell?
Parfait seems to be too nice to decieve Sydney like that.
And she likes life. Sydney can’t be her mana battery
……..That is an angle that had not occurred to me before! O_o She could be reacting to the new sensations in her head that werent there before…for her Master. Now that youve brought it up, the cues seem to support this hypothesis somewhat. Nice spot!
Can’t be, collar symbol hasn’t changed.
extremely doubtful. according to Dabbler there is some vetting that has to go on before one can get the collar of a succubus. so I am very certain that Parfait would not be handing THAT pattern out on business cards. she likely doesn’t even know it. also I hope that some of the marks are distinctive enough that Gwen would realize ‘hey this isn’t a normal summoning you need help with this’ when Sydney showed it to her.
well, on real-world earth, sure….
For all we know, fictional demon-worlds actually do have a ‘teenage succubus temporary insanity defense’, along with an ‘implied consent’ defense involving inviting a half-trained teenage succubus into your private quarters…
if we want to have BOTH real-world earth laws, AND visiting teenage succubi, we may need to create some sort of “chaperone collar” technology…..
Might as well make this comic more like the Lifetime Movie of the Week….!
I’m quite fine with how this is handled. And the many ways it can be solved or spun off from. Sydney has all the power she needs to control the situation after the initial surprise, and she has enough knowledge of succubi to solve/roll with the situation, or even learn a bit.
They aren’t strangers, and were having a conversation about sexuality. It’s only a solicitation until consent is withdrawn, and Sydney isn’t a hard-feelings kind of girl at all from what we have seen so far. You got this, Dave.
Unless dabbler bursts in with a spray bottle.
”What did you just spray us with?”
”Ooops! That wasn’t my water spray. Hehehe.”
Except Syd’s currently getting magically roofied. We already know a lust aura will make a 100% straight person want you, and that was with Dabbler being Dabbler rather than a young succubus putting the full whammy on you because she can’t control it. Sydney is incapable of giving consent right now.
Coomer me thinks this page is hot.
Logic me knows this page is a quagmire and Dave’s inevitable explaining how it’s totally not what it looks like isn’t gonna be great. (Just like Dabbler and super hairdresser)
Out comes the bondage orb. Tie her up and take her walkies to her sister for help.
Very good idea.
As the summoner, Sydney probably is a master of Parfait.
Not THE Master, obviously, but still a point of lust projection.
hopefully before aura works
Holy shit smoke tentacles! It all makes sense now!
I hope they have a talk about consent immediately after or else parfait just dropped in likability by aLOTTTTT
Parfait tried to stop herself by asking to get put to sleep before she totally lost it owing to magical sex-slave issues wired in her. There’s a real argument that Parfait herself is not consenting to this either. She still loses points for not stopping herself while she had the chance or cautioning Sydney (but Parfait has a reasonable excuse for assuming Sydney already had some primer or warning about succubus summoning, considering she interacts with a number of succubi, including Dabbler on a regular basis, and Archon has other sources of expertise who can lay out the basics), but Sydney also loses points for not running this summoning by Zeph (resident demonology expert), Dabbler (also an expert on this subject), or Maxima (who would check some sort of protocol), but she *did* run it by Gwen at least.
Gwen might actually get the most demerits over this, since she was consulted as an expert, didn’t warn Sydney or check with the chain of command, and left when this was a predictable risk (but presumably Gwen is not an expert on succubi). In fairness, Gwen asked Sydney if Maxima knows and Sydney responded “I think so” and said Anvil definitely knows, so the “who fucked what up” mess is probably going to end with everyone getting a lecture and no one having to take *too much* responsibility for what happened.
Wouldn’t surprise me if part of the succubus-summoning sigil is a magical EULA that puts any responsibility strictly on the summoner and tells them legal action must be pursued at the home planet of the summon.
(Hm. This might be a more extreme version of the Victim-Blaming “yes but look at what she was wearing” argument. “She summoned a succubus! What did she expect was going to happen?!”)
On any planet that acknowledges succubi to exist, I think there’s going to be a giant exception for them in certain areas, simply because they’re that good at getting the system to work in their favor. But I also think there might be exceptions on a conceptual level, put there by magical self-modification. Like, that it’s a (magically enforced) fact that it’s impossible for succubus sex to ever be a traumatic experience in any way whatsoever.
So Parfait is definitely going to get a Talking To by her sister, but otherwise I don’t think she’ll be in trouble.
there are going to be lectures and policy papers all over the place. this is absolutely the sort of thing that the details will be classified to the hilt, because of the hay that would be made if some unnamed but actually alive in the 90’s politician heard even an inkling of this incident. however, some odd rules will be made that are not as classified. things like this are why there is discretion in the system. Sydney may have to do pushups or laps to ‘help her concentration’ for this but mostly its going to be a lot of talking. I’m personally hoping for the ‘s__ isn’t funny frustration is’ type resolution, so put me down for Dabbler to intervene directly or indirectly.
Paging Dr. Frost. Dr. Frost, code Sydney.
Honestly yes, that makes perfect sense. Sidney has all the power as the summoner, and it is Sidney who has lost control here. So Sidney could easily be dragged to Succubus court for a reckless summoning that injures Parfait.
Somewhere Math’s “Two girls are kissing” sense is going off.
The reason witches dance naked: male authors.
Sydney: What the hell was that noise?
Parfait: Your heart just broke the sound barrier…
Well Syd did say she wanted an open relationship and getting into a kind of situation with Parfait is probably a good way of getting used to it.
It was… inevitable.
I wasn’t expecting it to happen this way but when Sydney decided that watching hentai porn in her bedroom with a Succubus, alone, was a good idea I figured it was only going to end one way.
Judging by what David is saying though, it doesn’t seem like there’s going to be a smash cut to Sydney waking up naked in bed with Parfait.
Who could have forseen that summoning a succubus would lead to this?!?
Sydney’s glasses couldn’t translate the word into something she understood?
Or is this a word for something that simply doesn’t exist?
Pretty sure it translates written words. Not verbal ones.
Pretty sure it translates spoken language as well.
I think the closest English term would be “lust tranquilizer”. Or considering how fast this is going, maybe “lust elephant-tranq-dart”.
This storyline was inevitable. The Puazi from page #686 didn’t get hers, and thus balance was restored.
I don’t understand why people read cheesecakey comics with adult themes and then clutch pearls when the story actually includes a scene like this.
I do hope the next comic includes an amusingly shibari-like lighthook maneuver while Sid gets backup.
I’m assuming that as Parfaits summoner that makes Sydney a ‘master’ err ‘mistress’ which results in this ruckus. For all the negative Nancies commenting, she’s a SUCCUBUS for gossakes with hypnoboobs. If you didn’t have a problem with Dabblers shenanigans why are growling about Parfait? Besides, Sydney is well able to take care of herself, tentacle restraint, force field, flight, or just a gentle push away saying “no, sorry, not going there”. Jeez, has no one gotten crossed signals and had an awkward kiss? Been there done that both giving and receiving.
Yikes! Didn’t think about this draw-back did ya Syd? Dabbler did tell you and Max about their history etc…
Parfait is in the “honeymoon” stage of her bonding, so the simple thought of her “master” is going to trigger her needs.
Now Sydney can try to resist it or get mad at Parfait, or she can just enjoy the life lesson and avoid this much contact in the future.
Parfait is “newly minted” slave to Tom, so she’s going to have urges. It’s not much different with a human couple, you BOTH have needs for a year or so together. Like the “Naked Rule” my wife insisted on after we moved in. That only lasted until that fall, we were married in July, by time fall came around the rule went away LOL. Ah, memories…
Anyway Parfait is only there with Sydney because of Sydney’s summoning her, so it is possible she could send Parfait back with a strong enough desire to send her back, even if it isn’t her real want to send her back. A moment of “NO, GO AWAY” followed by a poof could happen, by there’s no humor in that is there? More likely Sydney pulls away, blushing, and suggests they go find Parfait “some boys for this party!”
Dave
Great artwork, the facial expressions really convey the emotional context. Seriously.
Now do confused.
I’m just putting it out there. Monthly vote incentive/Patreon variant = THIS FULL VERSION.
I didn’t expect to see Syd kissed, but here we are. Dabbler can walk in ANYTIME now… I mean, she has a sense for these things.
I think if a kiss triggers your gag reflex, it counts as Belgian – like French, but more Flemish.
I went to school with a fellow who had that reputation. My best friends’ sister said kissing him was like kissing a camel. I don’t know what experience she drew on for that simile but that’s how she described it.
What red blooded man doesn’t enjoy watching girl-on-girl action?
(Dave, you paying attention?)
Parf literally said it takes a succubae a decade or so to learn how to control it, and she’s only 18 actual age, not just Earth-years (and she doesn’t have Daphne’s benefit of living five times as many experiences: actual age of around… 19 or 20 but with the life-experiences of someone in their fifties)
*Pouts*
What do you mean there won’t be a naked Sydney and Parfait “Afterglow” series of pictures in the Patron section?
