(whoops, I was up past midnight posting this, and my dumb ass still scheduled it for “the next day” AKA Friday.)
I think some of you were looking forward to Sydney’s meandering speech, and maybe it’s a missed opportunity, but she got nervous standing up there staring out into a mostly black audience and suddenly felt like an evil oil company that had come in and fucked up a bunch of African real estate, so it went something like, “Um, well… Maxima had already fought that guy to a standstill once so he was seriously dangerous and I just enacted the first solution I came up with that wouldn’t directly incur additional loss of life and I just realized the national language here is Portuguese but everyone’s been speaking in English and now I’m wondering if that’s some new initiative and oh look! Is that catering! I declare food! Time to eat!” // leaps off stage.
Succubi don’t really use the word “romantic” a lot. They understand love, which is important as they know most species conflate sex and love, and of course they understand seduction. They just don’t ascribe “romance” to when a succubus and her master are slamming one out behind the nearest collapsed building. But Parfait’s evidently watched a fair bit of anime, and while the emotional complexity of most anime kind of tops out at about a 9th grade level, the themes are there. (While I used to be a huge fan of anime and still theoretically enjoy quite a bit of it, I’ve come to the conclusion that 90% of anime contains only two emotions – whispering and screaming – so I don’t seek out any anime that contains any kind of drama. Comedy is fine, as is action as long as it doesn’t try and take itself too seriously.)
Parfait is also young and naive and pumped full of a steady diet of Earth pop-culture and fresh out of succubus finishing school. Older succubi might scoff at the term “romantic” and see it only as something to be used as a tool in the arsenal, but they’re not all that cynical.

Anvil’s grammar in panel 5 is sort of clumsy. “Means” and “implies” in this context have pretty much the same meaning and using them back-to-back like that doesn’t read well.

Sounds like Senyu might be up your alley. Anime that pokes fun at other anime (think Scary Movie to horror movies). Each episode is like five minutes, so you can binge the entire series in a couple of hours.
I don’t really like the term “romantic”… Etymologically speaking, it means “like the Romans” (that’s not what it means now, but etymologically that’s how it was derived), and there is NOTHING “romantic” about the way Roman men treated women. I feel like using the term implies the Romans treated women less like chattel than they really did.
There weren’t many ancient societies that did much better… The Ancient Egyptians and the Ancient Norse being among the ones that did better.

The etymology makes sense once one gives it consideration, but given how deeply the root word of Romance is imbedded into our language, I don’t see a better alternative. Sometimes you just have to accept that things don’t mean what they used to, and most people will never, ever consider the ‘roman like’ origins of the word.

I suggest the 2019 Fruit Basket. It has comedy but it is about broken people healing. There is 3 seasons and it has an ending. A scene near the end was so good and so moving, it brought me to tears. I highly recommend.

I would recommend the manga instead. The anime fell short to me.

On another note, it’s pretty obvious that neither Dabbler or Tom want any real harm to fall on the other. Tom could sever the link, and Dabbler could have left Maxima alone as she crushed his skull in her bare hands.

90% of today’s anime seem to be harem comedies. Which, I mean, is OK in its place, but you really get tired after a while of every last male lead accumulating a bevy of beautiful women lusting after him. And checking off the types, too. “Oh, there’s the loli, right on schedule!” And as soon as you see somebody playing a video game, you just know they’re going to get reincarnated into it. It’s probably mentioned in the TOS for all Japanese MPORGs.
Well, these things come in waves. I’m sure they’ll be on to something else in a few years. Though come to think of it, the harem comedy has been pretty dominant for, like forever. Though I can’t help but think Sabre Marionettes had more of a plot.
I still manage to enjoy them. Not everything can be Overlord or Spy x Spy.
I really liked No Game, No Life.
I also like several Isekai, albeit for different reasons. If I were to recommend a specific one, though, it would probably be Realist Hero. You already mentioned Overlord, which is just great for subversion.
And obviously Slime Incarnation, and So I’m a Spider.
I also like to recommend Yakuza Babysitter, Sweetness & Lightning, and If It’s for My Daughter, if one likes slice of life stuff. Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid is a good romp, and Miss Shachiku & the Ghost Child is just cute enough to kill you.
For those who want drama, and have already burnt out on GitS, I recommend both Witchhunter Robin, and Ergo Proxy. Or if you’re more into Comic Fantasy, then go give Slayers, Slayers Next, and Slayers Try a watch; warning, they very much 90’s products.

I liked it, but I felt it ended sort of…. early or something. A lot of dangling plotholes left.
There’s another one or two that are slime tamer based, but they’re not as good as Reincarnated is. I’m looking forward to Reincarnated as a Sword for similar reasons, as there shouldn’t be much in the way of harem elements unless the manga is really far off. Eminence in Shadows is fantastic so far, but it’s more spoof.

Maple is an adorable angel of a character who becomes a real Boss Monster to fight, and so sweet and helpful. Yes, she is OP, but the point is just having fun and making sure others are having fun too. She comes up with the strangest victories and the stupidest defeats.

If you want Comedy with Action, it’s hard to beat One Piece. There are admittedly very serious and dramatic sections, but a whole lot of it is rather goofy, and the most recent power up reveal is kind of hilarious.
I think Spy x Family is rather good. It’s a comedy disguised as an 80’s spy series set in an alternate earth (basically fictional countries, 80’s tech/cold war vibes). Again, there are parts that are serious or dramatic, but it does actually have a story and character development, it’s not just a farcical romp.

Ahh, like red to a bull, the what anime is better than your opinion of it. Well, my faves: Cowboy Bebop, Escaflowne, Last Exile (not the sequel though), Kino’s Journey, Paprika, Spirited Away, Haibane Renmei, Madoka Magica, Azumanga Daioh, Now and The – Here and There and Cardcaptor Sakura.
Ohhh escaflowne has a special place in my heart.
