Grrl Power #1069 – They just replaced that window
I realize I’m doubling down on the “Digit is a maniac” joke here. I think the next time we see her it should be in the field, but given her general lack concern about “those wiggly things with the faces” that keep getting transected by her inventions, there would need to be some guidelines about what doodads she’d be allowed to take out with her.
To be fair to Digit, when she was out vigilante-ing, she generally favored more… uh, cartoony gadgets, like bolo launchers and glue goo guns and caltrops – though her idea of caltrops were little pointy drones that actively chased down people and stabbed their feet. She also had the impact resistant inflatable jumpsuit, good against punches and unplanned base jumps. Then there were the sproingy boots. Not great for jumping so much as they were for running a bit faster. She really only got into the “things that launch deadly barbed things” recently, and her boss has been trying to steer her away from that category and into something less dangerous, like unlicensed nuclear particle accelerators. Actually, they can probably get licences for that kind of stuff there.
Prinrin is a cameo character from Patreon, but even though this is her second appearance, she hasn’t really had a moment yet. It’ll come. As Spider-Man once said, “Everybody gets one.” Well, at least one. Once someone shows up in the comic they tend to appear as I need them. Hmm, I should revisit some of the cameos that made it into the early battle at the restaurant.
The July Vote Incentive is up! This is an unusual incentive because it started life as a panel from the comic. A few people thought it was a good pose to turn into a nude version, and I agreed. It was originally intended to be a stopgap pinup while I finished the one I’d started on for this month, but I got caught up in shiny skin and various bits of anatomy and alternate outfits so I’ll just leave this one as the July incentive. The advantage being that I have a head start on next month’s so… maybe it won’t be late?
Be sure to enjoy the alternate outfits and lack thereof over at Patreon.
Double res version will be posted over at Patreon. Feel free to contribute as much as you like.
I thought the heighth of the goblin versus that suit (robot) she was working on was amusing.
And, please, don’t do politics here. This a comic.
I’m sorry, the comic is called ‘Grrl Power’, and you want it to stay apoloitical? That ship sailed a long time ago.
Dear Lord it is concerning that you take the title that seriously. People must *love* you at parties.
I always wonder what people think they mean when they complain about politics… because rarely does it seem to be about things that might narrowly be defined as politics, such as government, law, elections, candidates, etc. Instead, it seems to be “discussing or depicting a social group, position, or opinion in a way I disagree with”. Or even acknowledging that people who fall under some category or another even exist.
Regardless of how you define politics, I don’t see how comics aren’t a suitable medium for exploring or expressing political ideas.
the reason it seems like “discussing or depicting a social group, position, or opinion in a way I disagree with” because anger and outrage sells. it can hide things. there are some wealthy people who need to change very popular rules in order to get what they want. its helpful to tap into the resentment, need to feel superior, or need to feed on someone else’s suffering. to blind them to what’s going to happen. Politics at its most basic is manipulating people to get what you want.
all that being said, it is a goal of the admin that this place not dissolve into a typical low thought political comment field with bumper sticker wars and manifesto wallpaper.
We tell stories for many reasons, one of which is to try and illustrate something about the world we live in. the very best sci-fi is not really about the spiffy gadgets, its about the humanity reading the story.
From what I gather of such people, they believe that 1. there are only two genders – Straight and political. 2. There are only two genders. male and political. 3. There are only two races. White and political.
and what I gather if such ppl, is that they spent entirely too much time listening media coverage
I was going to say that the rule for such people is that change is always political, and the status quo is not… But it’s not even that, because they’ll be in favor of change that reinforces existing power structures. So instead, it’s anything that threatens their power or status is political, and everything else is not.
The danger is that the inverse is also true. So only by examining our personal biases, and being open to sharing our opinions/experiences can we hope to learn in order to make better communities. I personally am tired of people being told you aren’t allowed to have an opinion because X… that path is wholly unhelpful and only serves to divide and cement biases agains the “other” group instead of any unity or progress.
Comics have long been a medium for political and/or social commentary. Among my favorite that did that were “Lil Abner” and “Pogo”, both long gone unfortunately.
Comedians of all political and social opinions have really targeted politics and social issues. I think that was the reason people so loved Will Rogers but no one really understands most of what he is saying anymore. The times have passed. The issues are still there just dressed differently so our society views them differently, but luckily a new generation of comedians arise on the scene almost immediately as old ones slowly retire. I just wish they did not perform there acts with as much gutter level vocabulary.
Yes, art has always been a means of communicating truth in the guise of ‘lies’, or fiction. Comics have long been political, it’s just that people don’t notice when the politics match their own.
*Everything* in your life is politics (and I do mean ‘as in politicians’)!
When people complain about “being political” (or similar) what they mean is “My political views conflict with yours” but I’m too dishonest to say that upfront (and probably don’t even understand that that’s what I’m doing).
What politics? I’m not even seeing anything political in this message.
Anyway, comics have been political for pretty much as long as comics have existed, so I’m not sure what you’re even on about.
I agree the comic is basically a kind of blurred good versus a kind of blurred evil story. The only real social views that might be in this comic (impossible not to have some view and have a good story) is about power and restraint.
Lots of discussion about how all that chain fit in the box, but I’m just as impressed with the box remaining stationary. The forces have to stay balanced through the entire process – firing, impacting at unknown and unequal distances, and then tensioning each line evenly and near-instantly (again with unequal lengths) without causing translation or rotation. All within a fraction of a second.
My one nitpick with this design (aside from its massive friendly-fire potential) is that the only clear line of sight is towards the operator, so they’d have to turn their back to emplace it, which is both less accurate and creates a few moments of vulnerability to attack.
It doesn’t really need to be stable during setup, just after.
True, although staying close to stationery during deployment might actually be easier than trying to reposition it afterward under tension. Could be done with a microcontroller and a few accelerometers I suppose.
Also, just noticed Digit is either passing through the chains or ducking her way through them between panels.
I think we get the point… Or, at least, the bad guys did…
I’m guessing the signs leading to the labs are there more as a warning than directions. “Last chance to turn away: Labs this way.”

Two harpoons penetrated reinforced glass to hit two opponents in precisely the spot needed for an instant kill, seemingly at random, while multiple harpoons have managed to avoid both her and innocent bystanders. This one is more than a steampunk techno. This one’s a magical girl.
I’m gonna suggest we have a crouching idiot, hidden badass.
or, she is playing the idiot. in reality she can almost keep up with Dabbler in the intelligence department. Several incarnations of Dr. Who fit this description. so much so, the Master finally calls him out on his BS which to be fair was REALLY bad at the time.
Digit has a really high Intelligence stat.
Her Wisdom though…
Damn. She killed the shit out of those dudes.
She doesn’t really seem bothered by the casual accidental murder of a pair of strangers either.
I’m not even sure she was aware they were people… :S
Good work on stopping her from being a vigilante. What she considers crimes and whats on the books were probably not even close…
She only reacted to the noise, since they are outside her workroom they may as well not have existed beyond that.
To be fair to Digit, when she was out vigilante-ing, she generally did not have to worry about accidentally hurting the super resilient flexible Mr. Amorphous, and the best future ping pong racket against enough ordinance to vaporize an aircraft carrier. How Heatwave still has feet, I don’t know, but at least Heatwave would likely be fine against heat weapons.
If I see a hallway filled with *that* I’d nope out of that situation.
Digit is a very scary person. o.o
How is Digit able to pass through the chains? Is she a ghost or something? Is that how she doesn’t get hurt by friendly fire? She’s already dead…
What makes you think she passed through a chain, as opposed to simply ducking around it?
Then she moves faster than the Flush (any of them, there are so many using that name nowadays… )
It’s possible she ducked between panel five and seven, but between seven and eight? o_O
If you think about Prinrin’s speech bubble in panel eight (and the time it takes to say it) as a slight time gap, it gives Digit plenty of time to move under and past that chain between seven and eight.
Talking Is A Free Action.
It’s possible her innocence and air headedness is an act, and she’s fully aware two invaders died, and what the alarms mean.
Although more likely this is just a cheap joke with no explanation and was just made for the lols. It takes me out of the story, personally, but I’m not bothered by it.
You do realize that to license a nuclear particle accelerator, you would need to prove that standard operations of the device will not cause unwanted or unnecessary damage to the local area. And not explode.
Well, frankly, thats just health and safety gone mad!
after this is over they are going to have to go over not only site security and what failed and how, but also train/re-train all staff to recognize the “we are currently under attack alarm” and what to do in such a case
Ok Dave, what is necessary to get Prinrin’s number? I might not be Frix tall, but I’m at LEAST 2x her height, and she seems to like that kind of thing! That is one sexy curvy Goblin, and I want to see if she’s all one shade of green! And I’m enough of a Tinkerer that I’m sure I’d make a decent assistant for her in the shop! C’mon, Man! Help a guy out, would you?!? ;)
Aahh, a man of the shortstack persuasion, might want to look up Alfie verse if you want to see goblins in their glory …..
Those two mooks are now straight up having a very bad day.
They’re straight up having /no/ do.
I’m guessing the Bourne movies inspired this tripod-based invention?
I am honestly surprised no one has noticed what an aboslute hottie the both of them are! I mean…Ive never considered myself to be into goblins…but hot DAMN Prinprin will NEVER drown.
People noticed the first time she appeared :)
It’s like a discount version of the Da’at Yichud’s Spindly Torque device from the Wolfenstein reboot games.
JEEBUS Saves!
This comment board seems to have a lot of good posts but it’s like having a conversation at a party where everyone is shouting at top volume just to be heard by the person standing next to you. You know the kind.
I almost didn’t catch the M5 background image.
