Tamer: Enhancer 2
I wrote another book!
Have a sequel! Wow, almost two years to the day since the first book. Well, still faster than some of the pros, eh? This book is a bit longer, at 210K words. The first book was right around 120K for comparison.
I wanted to do more with the cover, but I’m not going to hold the book hostage because I didn’t get a chance to hide Yxlyn on the cover yet. (Yeah, like 3 people noticed her on the other cover.)
Please let me know what you think! I’m amenable to all constructive feedback and abject praise. Feel free to leave comments here, but please be mindful of spoilers if you do. You can also email me at grrlpowercomic@gmail, which is also probably the best way to let me know about typos. I’ll eventually release updated versions once typo feedback slows and I’m sure most everything’s been found.
Download your format of choice here:
- Tamer Enhancer 2 – mobi Format for Kindles
- Tamer Enhancer 2 – ePub Format for not Kindles
- Tamer Enhancer 2 – PDF Format for… other? For some reason Scrivener doesn’t include the cover in pdf format just FYI.
Here’s a quick link to Book 1 since I’m sure some people will ask.
Tamer: King of Dinosaurs is by Michael-Scott Earle. I’ve linked it several times in the past. The first book is free if you’ve never checked it out, but you don’t need to be familiar with Tamer to read my story. But it’s still free and it’s good… so… get it.
Obviously, “Tamer: King of Dinosaurs” is Michael-Scott Earle’s IP and my fan work is by a fan for fans, and certainly not intended to infringe in any way.
For those of you unsure of how to get a .mobi file onto your Kindle or Kindle app on your phone/ipad, the easiest way is to download it, then email it to your kindle email. You can find this on Amazon, under “Your Contents and Devices” you’ll see a list of books you’ve bought through Amazon. Click on “Devices” up at the top and you’ll see a list of kindles and phones etc that have the kindle app installed. Click on the box with the “…” next to each device and you’ll see an email address for it. Just email that address with the .mobi attachment.
Alternatively, I’m sure you could transfer it with dropbox or google drive or whatever poison you use.
Thank you man. Enhancer 2 is a great read!
FYI: The Tamer 8 kickstarter only has a few hours left on it.
Okay, I read and enjoyed your book. When will TE3 be ready?
WRT reading .mobi files, try installing MobiPocket Reader as an alternative to Kindle. Or install Calibre and use its reader.
Hello, Dave! Long-time enthusiastic reader, first-time commenter.
I wasn’t familiar with Tamer or Michael-Scott Earle prior to your announcement of your first fanfic novel, but I loved it and then eagerly devoured the second upon release. It then took me a while, but I recently finally bought and read the entire run of Tamer released thus far. Your fanfic, and my desire for more of that world and its inhabitants, drove me to seek out the original along with his other works.
The things I love about your fanfic novels (and these apply to the source material, as well) are many: For one, despite being presented as cheerfully pulpy popcorn fare they are actually very smart and genuinely thoughtful about how they handle their premise. The writing is skillful and engaging. I love that the women characters are all so well-developed that they are effectively the protagonists of their own stories, just seen from one character’s point of view. And I especially love that your viewpoint protagonist is, within the framework of a pulpy adventure tale, very effectively modeling non-toxic masculinity, showing that being supportive and compassionate are equally important strengths as being able to fight and kill; it’s noteworthy that Sam’s superpower is not only being able to improve tools and items, but to literally make the others in his tribe better and stronger. The fact that both your series and the original make frank discussions of desire, consent, and boundaries integral to the nature and development of all the characters – and having that being a seamless part of the narrative – is pretty awesome.
What would otherwise be just a shallow teenaged wish-fulfillment escapist fantasy in lesser hands is in yours and Earle’s elevated considerably; though not what most would consider “great literature” it is certainly intelligent and substantive as well as briskly entertaining.
And that battle on the beach in Book 2 was an epic pulse-pounder.
I really really hope you have a few more of these to come. Even if you don’t, thank you for what you have created and made available for your readers in both print and comic form.
Awesome, glad you enjoyed my efforts as well as the OG material.
A lot of harem-y books do have a bit of a “gotta catch ’em all” feel to it, where the women present some interesting ‘acquisition’ challenge for the MC, but as soon as they join team Main Character, he’s off working on the next one. I tried to avoid that, though toward the end of this book, the tribe grew a little faster than I had planned. I do want to write a third book, but so far I’ve only got about 300 words of it down. Comic and other things are keeping me distracted, but hopefully I’ll get the urge to write more soon.
Awesome books, love your comic aswell
Great characters and story movement and intrigue, plot development. Everything is great could not stop reading until finished all of it.
Would absolutely read your books, you are an awesome writer. Litrpg, super, fantasy, HAREM, I’d read it all.
I hope the TE3 is thing, to round up things. I enjoyed both books. I hope your able to team up with Michael-Scott Earle. Your writing is very good.
Great book. I read the originals and your. A very good addition.
Great book and like all the content I’ve currently read from you an amazing building mechanic and set of super powers to find new tools for.
So here goes my shot:
They already have: carrying sacks for Uthlu, level four heavy equipment, recurve bow, gathering equipment
general: A pot of Sam spit to smear on “non-charged” allies, disguises so they can choose whether or not the marauders recognize them by reputation, poisoned arrows, potted plants for mobility and writing equipment for secretly communicating with Voss and nearby allies, ear plugs to deal with Nira’s lightning strike, tinted glasses to deal with Nira’s lightning or tranform normally invisible light from Draciene in visible light, training area for skills that aren’t used every day
Pilip: set of malls and water to allow her to make arbitary shapes of ice for enhancing, hammer and blast and glass furnace to utilize her impressive heath resistance for material construction. Maybe some woodpulp to let her make pykrite instead of regular ice. Sack of fuel for fighting.
Nira: Ear plugs for protecting herself from her lightning, long conductive spear, light swimming armor(underwater operations), harpoon and a sack of saltwater with straw.
Xerxa: reflex hammer, peniciline(or other general anti-biotic, but this one I know in general how to extract and where to find), test with Zolie eye-Q repair, cleaning alcohol and really light and easy moving armor and weapons to utilise her “five seconds of the future” ability in combat.
Mareth: Titan sized equipment and a fake collars that easily snap to surprise Marauders.
Uthlu: stone rods to be dropped on enemies, Rock armor, container for materials to be carried as Rock.
Gerzwei: Seat on Urthlu rock and a harpoonic spear for bigger game.
Voss: camouflage and bow scope.
Yxlyn: transparent weapon made of enhanced glass.
Chassa: drums to inform allies where she is(maybe locute teleports).
Warsyl: armored gloves, weights, boots with grip.
Theth: Second set of everything except for: Titan sized equipment(becomes giant sized) and Uthlu gear(either only double the carrying sacks or skip them),
Draciene: laser upgrade/light writing upgrade, mirrors and lenses.
Sam: Spyglass, drums and flags for directing battles. Camouflage for empowering ranged allies by touch. Bombs.
Zolie: look if Xerxa can repair her eye, if so eyepatch to hide its state from marauders and otherwise cooking equipment, drums, loot, axe and other equipment that would be usefull for a stay at home.
My addition to the already mentioned ways of killing the king of marauders:
poison and/or surprise: besides range, structural and power level limitations all non-naturally aquired and most naturally aquired skills seem to have a cooldown timer and this doesn’t look like a skill that would be useful for the survival of a spiecy(kill one, kill them all), so he won’t be able to transfer a slow or a swift unexpected death.
list of things that don’t require enhancement:
Ear plugs, ice malls, weights, boots with grip, flags, drums, eyepatch, hammers, axes, piniciline, alochol, straw, Urthlu rods, fuel potted plants, writing equipment and bombs.
Reduction of damage for the “need to fight Mareth”: lots and lots of cushioning and checking the win and draw condition.
Allies in need of fighting training:
Mareth needs bow training, so titan Mareth can upgrade damage range.
Xerxa needs melee training to learn to utilize her amazing melee combat ability(5 seconds of the future)
Interesting things to harvest: iron ore, fat(fuel), eye-Q’s(obviously from fallen or captured enemies), Rocks of varying size and anti-biotics.
Read Enhancer, enjoyed it thoroughly, much more than the inspiration, actually.
Abso-fucking-lutly love your tamer fic, and would love book 3 anytime. While I have you here Dave, I would equally love a superhero harem book should you ever want to try it. I would buy it in a heart beat, if that was an incentive for you. You have a playful and fun writing style that cheers me to read.

“Nira,” both Nira and I hissed…
Second one should be Yxlin.
It’s actually correct, as Nira is talking over Sam, implying that his response is predictable. Admittedly it’s a little confusing as written, and I think I’ve edited that scene slightly to make what is happening more clear. I’ll have a freshly edited version out in a few weeks I think.
I totally understood what Nira was doing. I don’t think Yxlin would hiss at anyone
So you got me into this series after reading your first installment. I have been eagerly waiting for your next one. It came when i have been having an absolute $hithole of a week. You seriously made my day.
Are we going to see character art for this series? That would be amazing!
The dumbest part of this plan wasn’t that Darude would have skipped over the glasses area. The dumbest part of the plan was that even if she skipped the farms/roads/houses, she just melted a 10km circle to lava hot temperatures. That shit doesn’t cool down instantly. Heat doesn’t stay trapped in lava. She killed everyone in that 10km radius. It would have caused the same effect as a firestorm, a giant heat pipe sucking superheated air across the whole region. Man Dave you really need to think consequences.
I really dig your style of writing, can you recommend anyone with similar styles to yours? I kindof enjoy the slice of life mixed with danger.
That’s great to hear that you are working on a third book. Looking forward to it.
I read your books and enjoyed them. So much so I read the whole Tamer series. Reread your books and I realized how well you carried over the style and feel of the original. Well done! Looking forward to reading more of your work.
It’s taken me MONTHS, but I finally found Yxlyn on the first book’s cover!
(_no spoilers_)
This has probably been addressed in some way (I mean, I’m hardly early to respond here) but I’m slightly bothered by the use of a hyphen in the subtitle of book 1 not being used for book 2. Arch-duke or archduke, please.
Two excellent books! We’re ready for the next twelve!
Seriously, these are good, and I hope you can find the time to continue.
Be safe
Please write another
great read really Looking forward to volume 3!
His face looks weird, in what I assume is supposed to be.. a cool cowboy-style spitting thing?
It isn’t really working.
On a more positive note, your writing in both your Tamer:Enhancer books is a lot better than the original Tamer, likewise you’ve really improved on the world building. Are the later Michael Scott Earl Tamer books improving? I’m trying to decide whether to get them or just keep reading your superior version :)
Will you write other novels than just Tamer: Enhancer? Because you’ve definitely got good novel writing skills in addition to your webcomic writing and drawing skills.
@DaveB:
When I first looked at this cover, my initial thoughts were…
1__he’s flexing, to try and intimidate the viewer.
2__”is she grabbing his butt?”
3__”is that Yxlyn’s profile, in the background between them, or just the bonfire’s flames?”
By my count, Book_2 ends with an impressive collection of ladies for Sam’s group (no spoilers), & a wealth of plot points for Book_3 to address. Is there a particular method of speaking with you that would allow me to ask questions without revealing spoilers to other readers?
I don’t know how I missed the post of the first book, only noticed them when you posted the second. And for ten months I had both sitting in my Kindle as one thing after another put off reading them. Then earlier this month my eleven year old Kindle finally gave up the ghost and the most pressing concern was that I never got around to reading Enhancer. Literally, more concerned about that then my tablet dying.
So ordered a new tablet, and downloaded both books to my phone. Both books read in seven days and now eagerly awaiting the third. Amazing work. Little concerned about Sam having his finger in acid, even if a healer is on hand. The cast is also getting a little crowded. Of course I also want every character to be in the spotlight. They are all so interesting, so much history, culture, and personality to explore.
Love the artwork as well. Is Yxlyn all leg??? Hope you find a away to hide her in the future. As I said, eagerly awaiting the third book, even if I know it could be years (if at all). In the meantime I will see if the original Tamer can help bide my time.
Just finished reading TE2 – please write TE3.
Few thoughts for you to consider –
If Sam can get metals going? the Marauders are absolutely toast.
If Sam has coffee – he’ll have a whole tribe of caffeinated turbo warriors – because ENHANCE THE COFFEE!!!
Can’t wait for 3. I have to say I’m liking your version of this world quite a lot.
Keep up the great work.
Finished the two books the other day. Enjoyed them a lot, hope you’re financially stable enough to do a third.
With all the translation chat, and since you had a little bit in book two, part of me wondered how well the translators handle songs. Since those rely a fair bit on similes, metaphors, common knowledge, word play, rhyming, and the general flow of the original language in conjunction with the flow of the song, it feels like a real challenge for them. Since singing celebrate or to alleviate tedious work boredom is not that uncommon, seems like something that would come up sooner or later.
I’m also curious if Sam can change the powers he’s already enhanced in the same way he can alter an object that’s been worked on at a lower level than he is now. Considering power enhancement works a little different than objects, feels like it could go either way.
Loved your Tamer fanfics. I noticed 18 errors in Book 1 and didn’t keep count in book 2. If you have a gdocs for editing I’d be happy to help by commenting the possible errors I noticed.
(My favorite one was in book two chapter 1: “Nira!” both Nira and I hissed at the same time.) lol
I noticed that the Tamer 9 Kickstarter is started. And that had me wondering: Are you still thinking about the possibility of writing a TE3?
The Tamer 9 kickstarter has passed the 100K pledge mark :) A TE3 would be a great addition. FYI: I linked a book on Amazon that I wrote. Where Dinosaur planets play an amusing part. The girls are… Shall we say VERY dangerous, and a dinosaur planet is a great way for them to let off some steam and have a bit of fun. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BTK9H3Y6
I just finished both books during several days and i am looking forward for third book :) Thank you very much. It was fun. I like this kind of adventures.
Thank you for sharing another book. Keep it up!
Just an FYI: The Tamer 9 kickstarter is minutes away from ending and it has surpassed $130 K. The series seems more popular than ever.
The Tamer has completed, and it ended at $132,073. It includes the additional arrival stories of Sheela, Galmine, Trell and Quwaru, but was short for adding Emta’s
Reading these made me think I could try my hand at writing a book. The link is to my humorous but very adult coming-of-age story about a young Incubus who didn’t know what he was… Finding out is quite the harem adventure… It is on Amazon.
@DaveB umm… I just finished the second book. I loved it. I’ll have to re-read it because all the new words did not settle in (my vocabulary resist expansion) that easily.
About half-way in, I had a tiny gripe with the story, but the ending is where I got the second one.
The second gripe is that – Tribe Expansion was a bit too fast. If you’ll address this in the third book (which I hope will come out eventually) then it’s fine, but otherwise it feels like too much. Sam is much more open than Victor, not that it’s a bad thing. But he should be overwhelmed, right?
The first gripe however… the name of Voss’s ability. Don’t get me wrong – it’s great. It perfectly describes it, and the powered up version was brilliant – I loved it!
But… Implications Dave. Implications! @Д@
Did Voss’ world went through the same mythos? Is it something that translation picked up on because the closest match was that word for Sam? Does the name comes from Overlords instead? It’s a very specific name, isn’t it?
Anyway. Thank you for putting that “on paper”. That was great =)
Thanks! Enhancer 2 was a great read. Any other book recommendations?
I loved his books, and I then read the complete Tamer series and several more. I strongly recommend the E. William Brown and the F. Tefler books as well. I have even written a few books myself. If you are interested in a humorous, sexy romp, check out https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CNNRBXC4
FYI: The Tamer 9 book is complete and the Kick Starter links are up for those who ordered it
@DaveB Just wrapped up the second book, and I absolutely loved it! Planning to give it a re-read soon, as some of the new words didn’t quite settle into my vocabulary easily. Nonetheless, the experience was fantastic, and I’m eager to delve into it again for a deeper understanding.
I really hope there is a 3rd book on the way. Love these fan fic
More!
