July Vote Incentive
This isn’t much of a vote incentive, as you can see it over at the facebook page, but I had to double up since it took way longer to draw that I had planned.
Peggy is missing a bunch of tattoos, she’s supposed to have at least one whole sleeve done, but as much a fan I am of (good) tattoos on ladies, I find that I don’t care for a lot of the individual tattoos. I think mostly because tattoos tend to be very intricate and viewed from ~18″ away, so they don’t translate well into a comic where usually the closest you get is a 3″ tall medium shot of a character, so tattoos wind up looking muddy. I have some tattoo textures that I’m making for her, I need to do the same for Gwen, and Goth + Punk Harem.

I admit I don’t use facebook for much either. I could never really figure out what it was for. Eventually I got invited in to a group for people that make webcomics – groups like that I understand. I’m actually interested in most every thread, but just a stream from your friends and sort-of friends sharing links and who’s birthday it is never interested me.

I noticed it just now, what’s with the collars around their necks? I saw that the others have it and now even Sydney has one. Is it some identification choker or something? That something being whatever looked cool and you decided to stick with it? I guess I’m asking do they have some significant meaning behind them or is it just for fashion?
somewhere in the comments Dave has said that they conceal throat mikes, so they aren’t purely ornamental
Yeah they’re basically there cause I think that chokers are super sexy, and Arianna could justify them since Max refuses to allow the team to flaunce about in superhero tights with logos on them – and I further justify them by saying they’re throat mics. That’s all backfired on me a little bit because now there’s no reason that the guys shouldn’t wear them, and I really don’t like the way chokers look on guys. :P
So on the Cast page, Dabbler seems to have four breasts, but in this new cast image, she seems to have only the standard two. So which is it?

She had 4 breasts right up until I drew her in the comic. Even in Wereworld (usually NSFW), she’s got 4, but pre-Grrl Power, I had a tendency to draw her, you know, sans-shirt a lot, but it turns out, trying to design a shirt that looks good with 4 breasts is really hard, they wind up looking like bizarre bras (bizarre braziers?). If you try and put a regular shirt on her with 4 boobs, she just looks weirdly fat and topheavy, so I went a little more conservative and scaled her back.
Multiple rows of breasts actually works well with more-covering shirts; I usually just default to logo tees for anything more than one row, especially if the lower rows are full-size(though I’m not much of an artist).
Speaking of size, a second row with half or quarter volume might be a good compromise.
Like the gun carried by Peggy. My Fallout3 character uses something very similar for sniping.
Looks kinda like the Bozar to me.
It’s a Barrett XM500. Basically a bullpup version of the Barrett M107, the “50” that you usually see in video games. It doesn’t have the recoiling barrel of the M107, so it has a tad more kick, but is actually slightly more accurate, and being bullpup, it’s shorter and lighter than the M107.
I don’t know a ton about guns, I can only make assessments based on what I read on wikipedia articles and enthusiast blogs, but it seemed like a reasonably good rifle for her. The M107 is fairly venerated, and the XM500 is shorter, lighter and slightly more accurate.
i’m just loving that this is the first time we get to see peggy.
and i like this version of her better than the cast page one this one seems……. smoother is somewhat the word i’m looking for but not quite right.
Thanks, the picture of Peggy on the cast page predates the first page of the comic being posted. I have 4 pages fully drawn and ready to post that I’ve never gotten to simply because I drew them out of sequence. They were pages that I knew were going to show up eventually but of course now, almost two years later, I’d probably wind up redrawing them (or parts of them) anyway just because my art has changed enough.
if you want a bulpup sniper rifle to use as a base, try this system https://www.deserttacticalarms.com/dta-hti-sniper-rifle-chassis.html it’s a multi-caliber bulpup, short-barrel, bolt-action rifle system I was introduced to in the Army and that is slowly replacing the M107 in SF units because it can be tailored to the mission and uses the more effective .338 and common .308 as well as the .50 BMG.

Where do you go to fire this stuff. Just have to have a massive firing range out in the country somewhere where you can rent rifles? I’d like to do that sometime.
The DTA HT1 does look pretty cool. Honestly Peggy probably abuses the armory budget a little and has herself quite a collection of rifles.
I fired the XM500 in the service, and anyplace that allowes someone to use the .50 BMG is rare, (which is why the .338 is gaining so much popularity, similar balistics without the over-penetration problem that the .50 has) but if you do a search for full-auto firing range in your area, or a class-3 firing range, most will have the high-end rifles available for on-site rental and use. It won’t be cheap though, probably a $100 minimum and it costs as much as $5 a round, depending on the caliber used.
Love it, even if only one of Harem showed up for the cast photo-op.

Regarding tattoo textures, one trick I’ve found is based on the static effect used on panel 9 of page 5 of Softwired. With “normal” static, if you open it in an art program and scale it down, it rapidly greys out. That panel stays staticky a lot longer; you can see some of the large-scale blocks, which hold out against the grey.
Likewise, you can mix in a few bold elements, or elements that rapidly blur into bold — like an eastern dragon that has scales close up, but is still visible as a bold curve when it’s only a dozen pixels high. This isn’t really accurate, but it looks pretty good at a variety of scales.
incentive schmentive. Your art is fantastic. Your writing is fantastic. Your characters (even the ones that aren’t Sydney!) are fantastic. Your one of the best I’ve seen in years, and I’d vote daily without your bonus drawings, simply cause, I’ve got not cash yet think you should be one of the most well known comic creators around.
