Grrl Power #607 – A magnificent proposal
Wow Deus is getting all the action these days. The other guys in the comic might need to step up their game.
So we’re back from the little Harem flashback now. I didn’t put a caption up in the leading corner of the page cause I thought it’d be obvious, but just in case I’m mentioning it here.
Given that Sciona already survived having most of her head chopped off, Vale’s comment about her being “very slightly harder to kill” should tell you something about where her bar is for such activities. Assuming she’s not just posturing.
Yeah, Deus’s proposal is objectifying, but I think I’d be a little flattered if someone implied it’d be worth $80 million dollars to sleep with me. What, you thought Deus meant $10 million when he said eight figures? That’s cause you think smaller than him.
Is it just me, or is Deus kind of channeling Nick Cage there in that middle panel?
Double res version will be posted over at Patreon. $1 and up, but feel free to contribute as much as you like.
Deus has the Super Cock. once he dicks a girl down she is tied to him, pure endorphin addiction he is an organic Tasp. .
And he is such a classy capitalist, he even wipes his cock on the silk curtains afterwards.
OMG, roflmao
Ugh…
Sometimes I detest reading the comments.
Thank you for the comic, Dave!
*hangs head in shame*
I is weak. Sometimes I give into temptation.
I thinks. “This is funny”. Then “no, this is wrong”. But “this is really funny”. Then I clicks submit.
I is bad.
*scurries off to kennel and hides*
*Waves a rolled newspaper at Yorp*
*Looks at newspaper*
…could be worse. After all, I just compared you to a human.
*hunches down, ears drooping, with hurt puppy eyes*
Here, you can have the funnies.
Really the only way i can imagine this getting a bit better is if Sciona plan is to stall for time so one or more of her puppets get the mcguffin for her so she can leave if not i really cant imagine a way to salvage this and Deus is basically unsalvageable as a characters at this point
Just have patience. I have heard many such comments, about one hero or villain, in this comic, over the years. Which wash away in time as the story evolves.
This is a shocking scene. But (although taken to an extreme) it is the kind of thing that we know playboys get up to. Just look at that documentary about Robert Redford bribing a woman in a stable relationship a million dollars to sleep with him.
As the author says, he is a villain. But one who presents a squeaky clean exterior to the world. So pretty much epitomising the disreputable side of capitalism.
Although he has been made really interesting by not making him all one sided villain. He is just as willing to give a really useful gift to Sydney as he is to elevate the crown prince to being the richest man in Africa. And, more importantly, bringing a whole nation of poor people up to a high standard of living.
So kind of like all people, if you look at things from far enough away to gain an objective perspective.
We all do some bad things amongst the good stuff that we try to do. But this is a super setting, so everything is super-sized. Deus does super good deeds, and mixes in some super bad ones with them.
He is not meant to be a role model. He is a long-term antagonist, that the heroes will have a hard time ever removing. Unlike other super settings, where the prisons need to have revolving doors fitted, so that the baddies can get out (by popular fan demand) and have their next bout versus the hero. Deus is clever enough that he can avoid getting sent there in the first place!
But he is still a cad, despite being a clever one.
What you meant to say is, SmugD is doing some good amongst all the bad he revels in, kinda like a pig in muck :P
C’mon now. Don’t Cathy Newman what Yorp said.
Who the Hael is ‘Cathy Newman’? o_O
It’s a popular meme lately, based on the Jordan Peterson interview on Channel 4 in Canada. Cathy Newman was an interviewer who had a disastrous interview with clinical psychologist Jordan Peterson. She KEPT saying ‘so what you mean is’ and ‘so what you’re saying is’ and ‘so what you mean to say is’ then said something that had nothing to do with what he said, to which he had to keep correcting her. She came off as disingenuous and ignorant of what the interviewee was saying and it inspired a bunch of memes about ‘so what you’re saying is’
The thing is that Deus passed from a charismatic and goofy vilain to a charismatic pile of garbage
if sciona is really just trusting him and prostituting on a gamble she passe from a dangerous intelligent psychopath to a tootles b rank vilain
I am perfectly understanding of such a conclusion about Deus. I too set high worth on someone’s morality about sexual matters. In this case I am somewhat more tolerant than you because, although he has made this into a prostitution deal, he was straight forward about it and left the choice wholly with Sciona.
Had Sciona had more respect for herself, she would have declined, and found another path.
But, even there, I am applying my morals to Sciona’s choice making decisions. She is lacking empathy and any hint of awareness of or interest in social norms.* So to her she was not compromising her morals. Sleeping with Deus is just something she either wants to do or does not. She has no element of ‘this is socially compromising me’. That thought would not even flit through her mind.
As such I would not change my assessment of her. She is still murderous scum and her intelligence and planning remain those of a world-class genius. Seriously offset by her total lack of self-control, morals and empathy. Regularly, but falsely, giving the impression that she is stupid.
Sciona remains a ‘dangerous intelligent psychopath’.** Although she has shown herself repeatedly as being outclassed by Deus. So the ranking is reasonable.
Although, as she bested Halo and came within a hairs-breadth of doing the same with Maxima, the current holder of ‘the world’s toughest super’ title, personally I would give Sciona an “A-” villain ranking.
* Treating an elder vampire like a blood bag, as one example, and casually killing her own minion, just to vent some frustration, as another.
** Deus is more correctly defined as a sociopath.
Dammit. Forget my mention of sociopath. Deus is the one who folks normally mislabel as psychopath, and I was just ‘correcting’ that reflexively, whilst thinking about his character rather than hers.
I am really sorry about all this i am pretty much a lurcher but this chapter realy got to me there was several strange one but this one is all wrong.
Hell even the under page joke is basically Deus saying he can change the deal whenever he want and add stuff.
Lurcker*
Absolutely nothing to feel sorry about at all! Having a strong sense of outrage at such inappropriate behaviour shows that you are of good character and are a credit to the community, if normally more of a passive member.
It is lovely to have you unlurk and share your disquiet!
Mmm, regarding the under-comic part, kinda. To be fair, it is just a protracted business negotiation. Vale has been present throughout so he has not introduced her presence as a new element. He has just made it clear that she will not be leaving. Importantly though he has not waited until after they have started (or finished) having sex before revealing that there there will be a voyeur watching them.
Sciona could still choose to refuse if that bothered her. She made a counter-proposal herself in the penultimate panel, and could retract her agreement given at that time, if Sciona did not like Deus’s own counter-proposal.
Somebody suggested that Deus may choose to film their encounter. Which, given his fetish and the fact that we have seen he likes displaying things (his weapons collection for example) so he may indeed want something other than memories. But if he did, I would expect him (from the body of behaviour we have seen him display) to make that plain before the event, rather than doing so secretly.
Deuces actions are a lot like Lex Luthor’s in the 90s especially when we found out that. Perry and Alice’s son was actually Lex Luthor’s. Deuce did make the offer but it was up to Sciona to choose. She still had two other options to spite him tempting her and they were too either A make plans to acquire the funds necessary to purchase it on Deuces terms or B make plans to steal it now that she knew where it was located assuming that Deuce would leave it there secure and his security system.
Feel the need to say, don’t dislike the webic or the story, or the other commenters, just not happy with this page and trusting that DaveB has a plan that will explain it all
We love you too Guesticus, even if we disagree with you.
It would be nice if you didn’t keep getting personally insulting in your posts about me though. You don’t like it when Oberon does that to you. You shouldnt do it to others.
Good sentiments all round.
*gives a group hug*
In case we had forgotten that Deus is a big giant creep. Wow.
Heh. Yea.
When I was voting, I checked out Top Web Comic’s “new comics” feature, and found an interesting one straight away. Great art, dystopian setting and I am interested to see how the story plays out.
Sadly I cannot advise signing up for comments as that required signing up to the Web Toon service. Which automatically generated a newsletter with a ‘no reply’ email address and more importantly no ‘unsubscribe’ option. Forcing me to mark it as spam, given I would only be interested in signing up to get a specific comic. I would not want unsolicited mail in my inbox, even if it was mentioned in the terms and conditions.
Update: You can turn it off within options, even though there is no link in the email itself.
Please don’t “gross”. Kneejerk ewies say more about the person doing them than the person they’re doing it to. That just tarnished my image of Vane.
*Vale. Damn, if I couldn’t get her name right, I must not have thought that much of her in the first place.
New reader here. Surprised so many old readers lost their liking of this character in this page. He’s been very forthright in being a egoist, and while he’s very much a practitioner of enlightened self-interest, that’s still self-interest. If anything, it’s cemented my appreciation of the consistency of his character. Essentially, he’s just a very competent villain, who understands that there’s a fair bit about evil that’s myopic and shortsighted, and so he does the ‘good’ thing that gets him what he wants and more.
Also in terms of his power: well, we know the demons are following a deadly sins route, so my prediction is that, continuing the pattern, he isn’t Lust but *Greed.* He didn’t leave his partners weak (other than at the knees), and he seems more interested in the ‘achievement’ than in the act of achieving. This makes me believe that his energy source is Greed, pure and simple, and he’s a rather competent practitioner.
Looking forward to see where he goes from here!
