Grrl Power #511 – Rapid fire starter
When Sydney gets that branch of the skilltree totally filled out, the PPO’s selective fire switch is going to have a lot of settings. Rapid fire, Cutting Beam, probably a stun Phaser, maybe a land mine or proximity bomb? Some sort of targeting laser slash gravity beam that pulls asteroids down on your victim? I’m just spitballing here. I mean, I obviously know what all the pips do but that last one does sound pretty cool. Hmm.
Speaking of training, someone should probably reinforce with Sydney that she should concentrate on her target, and not diddling with her weapon while firing. One lesson of MANY that Sydney needs to learn. Like who to inform that of out of control fires she starts on clandestine missions. In this instance, Harem is right there and knows what to do.
Double res version will be posted over at Patreon. $1 and up, but feel free to contribute as much as you like. Patreon donations might count as some kind of tax write off. I don’t know. Definitely ask a tax professional about that. But in the meantime, donate like you’re trying to get into a different tax bracket!
She started out as Goku with a single beam shot. Now she has a Vegeta setting for masses of mini shots.
She should be fishing around on the controls for the “recall” button of the Zorg ZF-1 (Fifth Element) so all the shots track back to the same target no matter where she is firing… Just _avoid_ the little red button on the bottom.
Epic reference! I loved that part. …ok, let’s be honest, that whole movie was awesome. xD
QUESTION: Has her shield always been able to do that? Or is that new due to her upgrade?
It’s not her shield doing it, it’s the pew-pew orb.
…and yes it’s a new power she just bought more or less at random.
It was never tested till now, but was likely on Max’s training outline…
Whilst Sydney does have the shield ball in hand, that is in her left hand (per panel 5 of the previous page). Which she is continuing to use, due to having the shield up. However Halo can use two at once. So the one she is actively using above is the red PPO ball.
As Slythe correctly says this is indeed a new version of its original power. Pre-upgrade we saw it doing a beam attack, capable of cutting a tank in half. Which would probably have been the better option, for this attack, but Sydney had no way to know what the upgrade did, until she tried it out.
Bup, bup, bup! Only call it the PPO if you’re hip! Pay attention!
Yorp has the credentials.
Isn’t that a contradiction? If you need a credential to say you’re hip, maybe you aren’t! :)
Yorp has the cred. All commenters know this.
All know he is the Top Dog.
Soooo…. you guys are saying he’s the dog’s bollocks then?
*has a lick*
I’m going to prefer to call it the FireBall.
Apparently you can get an ointment for that.
Gwen! Gwen’s on the Cast of Characters list! Does this mean my beautiful Goth Princess will be returning soon?
Sorry to disappoint you but Gwen has been on the cast page since almost the beginning.
Awww…..
The banner at the top contains a random rotation of many of the cast. The first slots are always fixed to be the same principle members, but the end ones have a selection of many of the others, including Gwen.
I look forward to seeing more of her too. I am sure we will, in due course. And maybe soon, as she is in New York and we did not see her on the other teams.
On the list of functional upgrades…
Having one of the functions being that of pulling asteroids down on your opponents is a bad idea for several reasons one of which is that there may not be any within range to begin with.
Now if it summoned into NEO a Nickle-Iron anvil of significant size emblazoned with the equivalent of ACME on it’s side then that would be something.
[can’t remember what space red alert equivalent game had that as an Easter Egg option for dropping onto enemy installations – but so satisfying]
emblazoned with acme…..
I’m imagining the construct staggering around with the word “ACME” stamped across chest-to-forehead in reverse and at a crooked angle, with smoke coming from several new cracks in its chassis…
Fun fact for the day: Acme was the actual name of an actual company that made actual anvils. Their tagline was ‘rings like a bell’.
It actually a great idea because a tractor beam that can drop asteroids can also do lot of other stuff, unless it Arbitary limited to astroids in which case letting it summon astroids to is only fair.
I think that she should use flight and forcefield to knock it of the building and then one more to push it into the ground
That’s a really good idea – I hadn’t though of that. Using highspeed flight + forcefield as a battering ram.
+1
But Sydney needs to choose the side carefully, to avoid dropping it on top of Krona and Harem!
How is this an impass? His shield only cover the face and his feets are not protected. Shoot the feets to make it hard for him to move then use your newly discovered teleport to flank him.
Bee-grade teleport function my not be possible with the shield up. Dave specifically made it fly into the building through a hole to demonstrate it can not pass through solid matter. This may stop the bee from leaving the ‘hive’ of the shield. But…. since they are both orb constructs the designers may have put in a function to allow for it. This test needs to bee put into the ‘I need more training’ list.
Sydney has already demonstrated the combination of the force field with the telepresence orb. It had no problems operating through the force field.
It was during the fight at the steak house, prior to ItMakesMeStronger revealing himself/participating in the fight. Sydney spotted him observing and telepresenced over (without the Badgers!) to ask if he was perpetratin’ evil. The interesting thing (to me, at least) was that her force field was also shown in the illusion/telepresence, not just Sydney herself.
Well remembered. I did not think of that example, when reading O.B. Juan‘s comment.
Presumably the lightbee is transported outside of the shield using the ‘particle portal’ principle that the PPO utilises. Likewise for how the tentacle manifests, under the same circumstances.
Actually come to think of it how is this an Impasse?Halo has loads of combat options and unless midboss has some more cool toys theres nothing it can do to her in return. As loathe as I am to suggest it Halo at the very least has the option to try to force the murdergolem into close range and hitting it with her Kameaheha(Preferably at a steep upwards angle).
Still truth told the safest option would be to wait and keep it busy til Maxima turns up to one shot it,Overall this Manikiller upgrades not been all that impressive,At least the cheap cannonfodder ones had a load of surprises loaded into them which gave them an edge in their first deployment. This ones just a beefgate with limited attacks so far.
I have not yet begun to fight!
And due to her fall, Krona has begun to not yet fight.
I believe that her best option would have been the hentorb. She could have tried wrapping it up like the murder manikins, or she could grab it by a leg and see how it likes being used like Bam Bam’s club against the rooftop they are standing on.
Or she could even just throw it straight up and see if it knows how to fly (it has some maneuver capability, as demonstrated by its arrival, but that might not be quick deploying or fast reacting). Regardless of the answer, that would give her a better, safer opportunity to use the tank-cutting beam against it, while it was tumbling around up in the air with what appears to be a unidirectional force field only protecting one side of it.
True,Though its a pretty beefy construct theres been no evidence that its strong enough to beat 17 tons or so of grabbing/lifting power,Specially if all that strength was focused on one of its legs =)
Seems like this “upgrade” is weaker than her normal PPO so… since collateral damage has already been established she might as well just death laser the robot.
I dunno that sounds like it might bounce off the shield and lop the top off of a mountain!
The question is where is the blood mage?
I’d say bleeding Pixel for the second time today.
That’s what I’m thinking. Hopefully Harem can give a quick sitrep to Max for an expedited backup. I figured after retrieving Krona, Daphne would be in a better position to make that call.
The first time! :-P
Time travel is so timey wimey.
Sydney can remember a personal timeline the others can’t.
Personal timeline.
Like a Time Lord.
So that time trip unlocked Achievements in multiple fandoms.
But Pixel can’t remember a timeline that never happened. So here you have a situation where, were Pixel to be bled ‘again’ according to Sydney, to Pixel it would not be ‘again’ at all, but the very first time. The conversation could lead one or both of them to conclude that the other must be insane to hold such an obviously false belief about the past. If it weren’t for the conversation with Krona, of course.
Krona is in the unique position of being able to make others believe that their friends are insane, simply by virtue of a side effect of her already potent superpower.
True
Or alternatively false, if it was not proper time travel, but simply putting the checkpoint people back to their starting states. Maybe Sciona is real interested because she already has a vat full of Pixel blood, from the first time, and wants to know how she got topped up to full again, so fast?
Imagine later on,a fight scene similar to this one:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=prmSYgXF3Dg
she started another forest fire! smokey the bear is very disappoint.
Dave needs a place to send typo’s.(like last weeks unfixed one…) This is gonna bug me forever I just know it.
What typo from last week is unfixed?
https://www.grrlpowercomic.com/archives/2457
Author’s comment at the very bottom of the comic proper.
“If the skilltree’s not labeled, a random pick’s as good anything.”
Probably should be.
“If the skill tree’s not labeled, a random pick’s as good >>as<< anything.”
But its possible he noticed the earlier comments and was just to busy to say anything. * shrugs *
Not very important but since I noticed it, it will probably bug me till resolved. (or I'm told he likes it that way. That would work to. Closure. )
Ah, fair enough. :)
I’m making about 10 typo’s in all the various comments about this typo! ^///^’ LOL
*sigh* I did exactly the same thing myself a couple of days ago on another web-comic. I still wake up in a sweat in the middle of the night suffering from nightmares! Web-comic comments need an edit function!!
