Grrl Power #505 – Team sweep
So this page took a bit longer than usual to draw as you might guess. In fact it’s the reason I wasn’t able to get a piece finished for the Valentine’s Day Sex Drive thing – the yearly nudie pinup I do. Don’t worry I’ll still try and get that done at some point this year before the next one rolls around. You guys aren’t going to get shorted.
I thought this would be a record breaking Who’s Who, but it’s mostly Harem talking in the later panels. By the usual rules, only speaking parts get tagged to keep it from blowing up. Now, if this is your first visit to Grrl Power, you’re probably left wondering who a lot of these people are. Actually even if you’re a regular reader there might be one or two appearances you might not recall but that’s only because they weren’t heavily featured. Actually second to last panel has the Epimeliad from a mini comic under a regular page, and the witch just had part of her head poking over the bottom of a panel in one of the Council chamber scenes.
The bottom panel shows Iza busting out the moves he never got a chance to deploy during the Council Chamber fight. In case you can’t tell since they’re a little small, (twice as big over at Patreon :) he’s a card mage. I don’t know if there’s a proper name for that, but basically, you know, Magic the Gathering meets Yu-Gi-Oh! meets Card Captor Sakura, etc, etc. Right now he’s summoned a baby aquatic Purple Worm modified with a Gnomish rider (that gives it a bonus against mechanical enemies, duh) plus bonus acid damage on bite attacks and some other stuff.
I find it amusing that Dabble has struggled in combat the few times we’ve seen it, but the first off screen action she gets, she cleans up like an OCD maid. We will eventually get to see her do well on camera, that’s not going to be a running gag.
That third to last panel with Chorius and Kat, I think I probably should have drawn them in their Veiled appearance, and put their real forms in the bubbles, but the thought of drawing Chorius in the tophat distracted me. Normally it would be easy enough for Kat to just switch back to her human form, except she’s been a were for like 3 weeks and it’s difficult for her to rapidly pop back and forth.
Double res version will be posted over at Patreon. $1 and up, but feel free to contribute as much as you like. Share the comic with your friends, then compete with them to see who can contribute the most!
Is it just my machine (safari) or is there something funny with the cast page?
It works on my Win7 machine using Firefox. The main cast all show the pop-up stats when clicked.
Which leads to a secondary question. Is there a specific key somewhere to each of the ability icons next to each character? Some are obvious (wing=flight) but others are more obscure.
(How did I never notice until now that in addition to Harem and Jiggawatt having an icon that means teleport that Sydney has one of those as well?)
I believe that has been talked about before, not sure about author contributions and it was hand waved at fake teleport almost counts so the lowest grade of one.
I’d like to know how much she can take with her though. Better than Harem I’d guess.
Likewise on Win 10 with Google Chrome. Hopefully it is just a temporary corruption. I would suggest that you force your cache to refresh. Typically that sorts any such display problems (unless it manages to self-correct before even doing that).
No. And Dave has long avoided commenting on these.
Because nobody noticed. Plus this also explains why Dave did not elaborate, as he would draw attention to a potential spoiler. One sitting there in plain sight!
For information here is the key I proposed. As you can see I did not consider that the teleportation icon (as we now know it to be) actually indicated that Halo had that power too. In my defence I was trying to allocate powers to each icon. But it turns out that Halo is missing one, namely for her projected image.
I was not expecting icons for mystery orb powers, or other power stunts she might develop later. But I was expecting there to be one for the powers she demonstrated in the board room. Hence why I misinterpreted the ‘two people with zip lines between them’ as covering telepresence in addition to teleportation.
I guess I was sorta right.
The most logical option would be that she can transport whatever her projected image is showing. In which case you would be right. However we must consider the power rankings next to the icons (two people with zip lines between them). Harem’s is three stars versus Halos minimal one.
Part of this will clearly be that Sydney is limited to teleporting where the lightbee can project an image. At a minimum it requires sending it to the remote location. From what Sydney described (about only being able to sense if there is an obstruction in the way) it does not seem that she will be able to send it to a very distant location, as without seeing where the lightbee is, Halo probably cannot direct it to a desired location.‡
However Sydney can go to places she has not seen (as demonstrated by the recent incident). Which is more flexible than Harem, who had to try and get there the traditional way. So Halo does have some flexibility that Harem does not have. Meaning we need to find some other reason why the rating is so far below Harem’s. Having a poor weight limit would help to explain that.
It does though, at a minimum, appear that Sydney can actually teleport her clothes and utility belt (along with the orbs).
*starts studying a spell book entitled: ‘How to dispel illusions through the 4th wall’*
‡ The Moon would be an exception if she could use a telescope to take sightings. Or there is the trick of projecting the image, taking a bearing, then carrying on. But this is still a lot less flexible than ‘teleport whereever you know well or can see’.
I always figured that a level 1 teleport was a stand in for her telepresence. She can’t actually teleport so that’s why it’s a level 1.
She can now :) Upgrade time to level 2?
I’m on a Mac, using Safari, and seeing no issues.
Expound, please?
Heh, after repeatedly failing before it’s working fine now.
Weird.
And thanks everyone.
I love how someone at Romeo One is using MAGIC cards to cast a spell. That is quite possibly the coolest thing I’ve seen all week.
I’d like to see a terrain card used.
ReaperD – There were quite a few land cards being used hell I think I can see a dual land. Unless you mean something else.
No that is not Hell behind Maxima, that is an American city….
oh wait, yea, my mistake.
Hey it is March, I have a quota of American teasing to fulfill!
P.S. It is March, and we are only at 8th place in the Top Web Comics voting!
Please do not forget to vote.
If you do you will get to see Sydney stroking a pussy!
I voted and saw Sydney getting some tail, but she has never gotten any tail. We all know that Sydney is the v word, vegan, and also the “V” word.
Other than illusion cosmetics and the other battle stats changes, if the cards really did changes to the battle field. Playing a mountains card… While underground, could be very lethal. In the tunnel system they are already in adding a labyrinth card would make navigating a nightmare.
If the monsters are real enough to combat actual oponents then this should be genuine.
Love it.. but why does is Maxima have her left hand closed, looks like she’s going to uppercut someone.
She was expecting to talk to Dabbler shortly and was automatically preparing to deck her, possibly.
Maxima is solo, in an area where intelligence suggested enemy may be active (even if she failed to find any) and she knew she was going to be distracted with the check-in. So I think she is just ‘at the ready’, the same as any soldier would have their weapon ready, for instant action, if needed.
In Maxima’s case it could either be a punch or opening her hand to use her energy blast. Fist closed is the safer when flying distracted though. Not that she is too likely to bump into anything hard enough to harm exposed fingers. But if anyone does engage her it is safest to assume they think they have the means to harm her.
The fact that her right hand is scratching her neck (lost for words or shocked etc) shows she aint ready for anything.
The majority of the human race has trouble showing 1 emotion little lone 2.
I think its more likely Dave didn’t want to draw with her left hand on her hip (or her shiney yellow ass). :P
She’s not scratching her neck, she’s touching her throat mic
I just love that the werewolf is not only playing Sherlock but is rather daintily holding his magnifying glass…so very proper.
Panel five (the one with Dabbles) raises a question: just how many of those Blood Swords are there? o_O
So far we do not have evidence for more than just the one. Add up all the sections our heroes have collected and they would not even make a shortsword. The bloodswords from literature tend to be of rather more impressive stature than that. And from manga even more so!
So they could meet another group, or two, and still have all the sword fragments having come from a single weapon.
Okay, changing that Odyssian’s line to “Friggin’ Rip” ruins it, POO, just because some people don’t understand and got their panties inserted into their lower intestine
At the least, should have changed it to “Friggin’ Rip Off”, as it is, ‘Friggin’ Rip” means nothing
It does seem odd like that.
cardcaster. Iza is a cardcaster. that’s the name you’re looking for.
Haha, I just realized “I’m all for the second amendment but” is the progressive version of “I’m not a racist but”. It’s a lie you have to use when talking to certain people so that they don’t shoot you or call you a racist, respectively.
Personally I think Dabbler hasn’t been super badass on camera is because she isn’t used to “non-lethal” yet. Like, four armed intergalactic succubus warrior probably doesn’t do too well in fights with squishy people because it’s either holding back too much and getting her ass kicked, or her opponent is a bloody pancake.
