Grrl Power #476 – A hare and knee raising experience
I’m not sure that digitigrade legs would be especially effective for kicking. Well, maybe they’d be better at thrusting kicks like in the first panel, but I think you’d lose some power with axe kicks and roundhouses. Anything that involved leading with the heel, since it’s further up the leg, you’d lose some angular momentum. I’m not sure Muay Thai would suffer too much from that, as I think it largely focuses on… side kicks? Whatever Kat is doing in panel 4, I don’t know the name of the kick. That and knee work, and maybe some punches and elbow strikes, and less on backwards spinning kicks. I only say that because Sagat, Adon and Kim Kaphwan didn’t really feature roundhouse kicks in their move sets. Yes, fighting games are where most of my Muay Thai knowledge comes from. That an select B-list action movies from the 80’s.
Hmm, ok maybe Kim uses a lot of axe kicks. Though I will say that doesn’t really resemble Muay Thai anymore. (And of course the chick has a move where she sits on your face.) Also, there are apparently 14 King of Fighters games, but only 5 Bloody Roar games?
Holy crap there were 5 Bloody Roar games?
The Twilight Council doesn’t have a dress code per se, but wearing short jean shorts seems a little casual. Kat didn’t know she was coming to the meeting tonight though. She’s only been a lycan for a few weeks now, and Gregor thought it was time to introduce her around.
Oh geeze I just realized I forgot her tail, which is a shame since a cute lil’ poofy one poking out of her shorts would have been cute.
Thanks to everyone using the Amazon associate link on the page. I don’t thank you guys enough. Especially the guy who got all the parts for a scorching computer through it. I thought I would mention it as we’re entering the holiday shopping season. I think my wife is already done with her Xmas shopping, I’m more of a last two weeks kind of guy.
I should reiterate I can’t see who purchased anything, only what was bought. So don’t feel embarrassed about getting books like The Alien’s Captive, in which I’m sure bodices are not necessarily ripped so much as they are disintegrated with alien ray guns.
Be sure to check out Wearing the Cape: Team-Ups & Crossovers. Sydney’s first Crossover! I’ve made a dedicated blog post for the book, please comment there.
Double res version will be posted over at Patreon, as soon as I get up. $1 and up, but feel free to contribute as much as you like :)

Considering the existence of fantasy characters in the Grrl Power universe, a were-platypus character would be interesting. Just saying.
A were-whale might have potential as well.
Knowing my luck, I’d probably become a were-earthworm if I ever got lycanthropy.
I don´t mean to be inconsiderate, but I would say that were-whales already exists in the real life. A trashfood companies project?
Were-earthworms have a great potencial too.

Would a were-tufted deer be a vampire bitten by a were-deer?
No, haven’t you seen Robot Chicken? A were-deer would be Kid Venison.
Ever hear of the greatest earthworm ever? Goes by the name of ‘Jim’
*sneakily passes 30 nerdbucks to you*
Please tell me that was a reference.
Can’t watch that video in this country :(
Ditto IMDB is both ageist and nationalist.
I think we need to put Katerina in a ZPD uniform.
Huh. Into the 4th page of comments & still no one yet has expressed the single most obvious pun. It’s a dirty job, sure, but as the resident ninja here, it’s my dirty job.
Katrina certainly has a dis-arming personality.
Ok, it’s done. Now we can move on.
You are welcome to make such ‘armless comments.
But only against dummies.
Sure I will hop to it.
Oh, I should point out: Rabbit feet don’t have pads on them. Lots of fluff.
And… what do you think is under all that fluff? o_O
More fluff. Endless fluff.
:-D
Actually there is one other point that is applicable to Katrina, and that is she is able to vary how much hair or fur she has. This is a canonical aspect of were-creatures in the Grrlverse, explaining why Katrina has human hair, rather than bunny fur. In contrast to her (dire) wolf counterparts. They can each customise their hybrid form’s appearance, in that regard.
So Katrina may well have had the typical hairy feet and decided to change it, as she did not like the look or feel.
You think so? Hah!
No … wait …. something wrong there. Let me try again. Whilst most reference photos do have the hairy feet, I did find several like that, with visible pads. And those which had hairy feet I could typically make out those same structures underneath, as Guesticus intimates.
I would surmise that the hairiness of their paw pads may vary by breed. Or perhaps it may be influenced by age, gender or even having a genetic disposition, varying it at an individual level (like baldness in humans).
That’s a cat: https://www.flickr.com/photos/mamaroo10/albums/72157618439992381
Remember kids, always check context.
I did, or as best as I could. I looked at the source page and it was entitled “Rabbit foot resting”, had been posted in 2008, had a bunch of comments, none of which indicated that it was anything other than what it claimed to be. I could not think of any other way to verify the image. Although I admit I was too lazy/not interested enough to hunt for veterinary texts on the matter.
The internet lied to me!
*cries*
I just did an Image Search of the image and found that it was included in a group called “Cats with bunny feet”.
From there I looked at the source page as you did(https://www.flickr.com/photos/mamaroo10/3573282138/in/album-72157618439992381/) and found that next to the comments there’s a title saying “This photo is in two albums”, and both album’s example photos are cats.
That’s how I found the link in my previous comment.
Internet is always liying unless proven otherwise. Never trust a partial image or a quote.
In this case you should find the image of a whole rabbit with paw pads, but do not bother, it does not exist. For the misinformation I blame Disney: https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/originals/f5/4e/87/f54e875936abbba14b9de6553c9d6dc3.jpg
BTW, you are not alone, I found as well two blogs (at least) where that same photo was being used as example of “rabbit paw pads”, one of them even was a discussion about if rabbits have them or not :)
All research indicates they don’t have any pad like structures under the fur because that is a special kind of fur that is used AS their pads. I could see her reducing the fur so that she could get grip on an slick surface or something but there wouldn’t be anything looking like a big cushy pad underneath cause that’s what the fur IS. (sort of replying to two of your posts at once here) Be a bit more like a fleshy specialized rat foot I guess.
Its difficult to find a picture of just the foot with no hair.

Baby pictures are furless but so young the pudgy anatomy is misleading.

Even on this little guy the thick hair is already starting to obscure the shape.
The dog/cat like pads are not really a rodent thing anyway. (and even amongst animals with pads that exact shape is mostly dogs/cats and close relatives.
Basically, while I like to give DaveB as much leeway as possible I think in this case the OP has done a good thing trying to make Dave aware of this issue which my looksee around the net shows me is actually a bit of a “pet peeve” for those who draw or peruse animal art a lot. For them, its up there with putting split hooves on a horse.
Thanks for the corrections, and information, both. I dropped the ball on that one! And well pointed out, in which case, Robin Bobcat.
By the way, I have been meaning to ask, are you any relative of Catalina Bobcat?
Nope.
Haven’t seen that comic in a coon’s age.
Too bad she wasn’t changed into a Bobcat-girl instead of an ordinary girl.
It’s probably already been suggested somewhere in the 600+ comments, but obviously, the move would just be “Bun Knee.”
Indeed.
Several times, on each page of comments, but more can’t hurt to remind DaveB to make the change when he adds the floofy tail
I always support super bunnies, of all types.
All types?
I certainly support Rodney.
Let us hope that Halo does not get that disorganised, when accessing her utility belt. Applying a gold star, instead of a bandage, could be problematic.
Although if she gets hammerspace, as a part of the deal, I think she would put up with a bit of bleeding.
Including this super bunny.
Actually this is better video quality.

The actual 2nd comment. But I’m just skimming at this point too so don’t blame ya! (lot of comment pages now that the actions heating up. Or everyone just likes the rabbit)
Katrina might make a pretty good side /kick/.
…

…
dangit where’d that drummer get off to? *sighs and flees before rotten tomatoes are thrown.*
Apex lycan in training!
You can come back hare, that was very bunny … err … punny.
I’m thinking of developing a Mexican kickboxing style that I plan on calling “Muay Loco”.
If she joins a super team her cape name could be Thumper.
DaveB, there’s at least a couple schools of thought on the power of kicks…long legs being good for distance (usually good in a fight) as well as principles of leverage; another being short legs=faster time to target=more power. Mostly it depends on the two individuals in the fight.
For Kat…well, following rabbit physiology, she’d have some tremendous haunches…thighs, buttocks, etc. She could put a lot of power into her foot using the fulcrum of the knee, probably a *lot* faster than even athletic human norm…not even getting into an enhancements her were-hood conveys.
Panel 4 looks like a high roundhouse out of a block; not uncommon if the kicker is flexible enough…and Kat obviously is. (Man I hope I’m not using the wrong name..!) High kicks are problematic in a real fight, but se above for my reasoning why Kat can get away with them.
As for Muay Thai…while the 80s Van Damme movies were awesome cheesy sauce, they’re not a good guide. Tony Jaa is much better, and even his work is heavily `Hollywood-ised’. Focuses on `non-traditional’ striking areas…few ball of the foot, knuckles of the fist strikes. Knees, elbows, shins…and it targets the opponent’s `weapons’ a *lot*. Take out a leg, knee, elbow so they can’t use them against you. Muay Thai can be *brutal*.
For what my opinion is worth…not a lot…Kat may have gotten her start in Muay Thai, training as a human, but her were-bunny gifts allow her to adapt and transcend far beyond any traditional human martial art.
Basically…she probably likes kicking things a lot and you don’t want her to kick you because it will hurt. A lot.
Well thought through.
You got the name right. Any time you are in doubt though, just check out the Who’s Who bar (to the right or bottom of your screen, depending on your layout).
I am frankly offended by this page.
You had a perfect set-up for “Bun-Knee” and YOU MISSED IT.
Nice Bun-knee to the face there!
#Hilarious bunny tail addition is hilarious!
I totally agree about a need for a need Bloody Roar game.
If she would have it in the stomach it would have been a…
“HareKneeA”.
Overlooked the strength and sharpness of a hare’s hind claws. Structurally their legs could apply more power in the opposite direction of a kick. Downward slash. Ever see Ichi the Killer?
Hares aren’t rabbits, but they can be as bloody as Watership Down.
Ah, but Kat’s not a *hare*, she’s a *werehare*; she has a humanoid musculature. Also, she appears to have some fight training (which doesn’t account for werehare muscles). Someone was giving her grief about having taken a flea bath, suggesting she doesn’t have a lot of experience (but, apparently some book education; see intra-genus drift comments), so, probably minimal to no experience fighting as a werehare.
Um … You missed the obvious: “Bun-knee”
ok this reminds me of the BloodyRoar fighting game series ….. Alice the Rabbit in particular
I’ve read through the archives at least four or five times. I think this is the first time I actually read the unsound effect. I’ve read Kat’s bit in the corner every time, but I don’t think I ever realised she was complaining about DaveB’s labeling.
If feel like they passed up a perfect opportunity to call that attack the Bun-knee.
GOD yes there needs to be a Bloody Roar revival. Or spiritual successor.
Story got kinda weaker when it slid into magic tablets and cursed dragon and so on in my opinion – series kinda demonstrated the trope that ‘story is there just to give excuse to fight’ isn’t always the best idea for a series. I don’t necessarily think magic type stuff can’t be a part of it, but the mad science/evil corporation/oppressed beast people story worked much better in my opinion.
2 was my favorite for overall world feel, but Primal Fury remains my favorite execution of the combat mechanics. I’m normally not even that in to fighting games but me and my first roommate player both of those games to death. Our Long VS Shen Long battles were almost as heated as our Marth VS Roy battles in SSB Melee!
God I miss having a friend I could regularly share playing games with. Couch gaming is a terrible thing to lose.
How another lycanthropic brawler hasn’t filled the void is beyond me. It’s such a rich environment for the genre!
