Grrl Power #475 – Emergency egress
It makes sense that if you’re going to send someone or something into a room of largely magic creatures and get all hostile, you’re going to have some protection against magic. Then again it’s probably fair to assume that a bunch of automata might just be disposable.
I haven’t really talked about the rules of enchanting in the Grrl verse, but there is some common sense to it. In most cases, complexity and power adds to the resources needed for the enchantment. Difficulty, time, power, crafting supplies, etc. There are also ways to cheat that equation a bit as well. Higher quality crafting supplies can either cut down on the time needed or can increase the quality of the enchantment, as can borrowing power from a potent source, for instance draining it from another artifact.
If they learn nothing else from this fight, the power of these attack mannequins (Attannequins? Mannattacks?) might tell them something about who sent them.

so, im a little curious. who would win in a fistfight, anvil or maxima?
We know that in unrestricted sparring Anvil is easily defeated by Maxima. Anvil has no defense against Maxima’s energy attack for example. Plus her flight gives Maxima an additional edge.
Taking those out of the equation though and Anvil would still be outclassed. Offensively she can muster strength at three stars and her kinetic attack at four. However both of these lie below Maxima’s defense of five stars. She is an experienced combatant though, so may have developed a technique to combine both, which may or may not be sufficient to overcome Maxima’s force fields.
Unfortunately, as we just saw, Maxima can move so fast that Anvil would never be able to make any of her blows land. Much as we saw with Anvil and Math scrapping, in the Archon rest area, opponents with super-speed outclass her (unless they get cocky and do silly things that stop them avoiding her).
Whereas offensively Maxima can punch with five star strength. Yet Anvil can only absorb kinetic energy at four star capability. So Maxima could probably KO her with a single blow. It is worth noting that Maxima cannot have full strength in both offense, defense and speed simulatneously. But Anvil has nothing to prevent Maxima from changing it around, as and when necessary.* So whichever is needed will be at five star strength, at the time it is required.
Hence why, overall, Anvil is rated as a five star super versus Maxima’s nine.
* Vehemence, by contrast, (when he had all his absorbed power) was forcing Maxima to keep all her variable power in defense. Simply because he clearly had five star strength and his ongoing grip, on Maxima, would have killed her, had she diverted any capability from protecting herself.
Should Anvil develop a technique which allows her to combine her kinetic attack, with her raw strength and (most importantly) find a way to grasp; Maxima, then she could replicate this threat and potentially win the fight. But Maxima’s minimum speed would pose Anvil significant problems even then. It is possible for an agile opponent to wriggle free from a wrestling grip.
So not a straight up flight but Anvil could charge herself to level her available attack beyond what Maxima could take perhaps? And then team with someone to get Max into position long enough. Could be a good training exercise for the entire team. (Boss Battle vs. Raid? Good training for those V moments)
It could happen, but I can’t imagine Maxima seriously fighting anyone who a) could be tougher than her and b) can’t fly, and not throwing them into the air/into space/into orbit/into the sun before they can even see her, you know, like Superman would if he thought like a soldier.
….Is it bad that my favorite thing about this strip is the last three panels? Because it is. I love that little raccoon and his reaction to the explosion. It is absolutely frickin’ adorable.
i think my favorite scene is maxima testing sidneys shield behind a steel block. the look on sidneys face is priceless.
Nothing wrong with it at all. I found it hilarious myself. And hope we get to see more of the little fella.
Maybe one of Halo’s mystery orb grants ‘speak with animals’ or has some telepathic or empathic capabilities? In which case we could be seeing him on a regular basis.
It’s not bad at all. Different (or additional) interests, man.
Love the Minecraft map of the facility. Ooh, is that *gold*? : )
I can’t believe I didn’t notice that the first time
I bet you were too distracted by the smiley-faced trees?
“Doll-faced killers”?
Love the Minecraft touch!!!!
I love how the ground below the side view is made up of Minecraft blocks.

(I understand you won’t know what this means unless you’ve seen “Yogscast: The Bomb” on YouTube but ey. This entire comic is made of situational jokes.)
I don’t know if this indicates all raccoons are sentient, or just that this one is a super raccoon, but I feel for the guy.
