Grrl Power #24 – So This Super Heroine Goes to the Bank…
Actually, considering Sydney’s age, she’s probably making Zoidberg noises. In fact she may never have even seen The Three Stooges. I suddenly feel kind of old.
Also, I’ve updated the Cast page so that the answer to what’s in the tube isn’t immediately revealed. There are icons (some kind of cryptic I admit – I’m working on a legend) that show powers and power levels, but you have to click on each portrait to get the details. Of course if you want it all revealed organically, stay clear, but now at least you can poke around without anything major being spoiled.
Lol yes the three stooges some of my favorite slap stick comedian’s and dont fell so old ther dave im 27 and know whom they are and im pretty sure i minght be older then you^^ , but as to our discsson last page dave if you dont have villinious portions of your self then id suggest drawing them for the people you know in your life for example while im a rather dark person at heart and often blurr the line between hero and villian i think that makes me much more like batman minus the all consuming need for vengance but my sister is a totallly heartless bitch and would make for an excellant villianess the thing about writing for anti heros is well it can be rather enjoyable as it allows you to if only in thought to cut loose and really enjoy the crimes being commited or other acts of nefferiousness, somtimes writing parts for villian reveals our own darkernatures , again just a thought
That’s not actually true. I’m 18, and I’ve watched the three stooges on boomerang, so she might actually know who they are and the classic slapstick comedy that’s incorporated in the show.
It all depends on if she was clicking her hands like claws if those were Curly noises or Dr. Zoidberg noises.
How exactly do you “click your hands”?
By having claws. Or metal hands.
Pfft… like age is any indication. I’m 18 and I’ve watched the Stooges. :D
Then again… I also grew up in a household trapped in the late 50’s-early 60’s… But whatever!
Yeah, that’s true, it could depend on how much a product of your parents you are, and Sydney is definitely her father’s daughter.
I probably wouldn’t know the Stooges nearly as well if it wasn’t for my grandmother, as I think she liked them. I just remember they tended to be on when we visited my grandparents’ beach house and I’d sit and watch those silly slapstick kooks.
It actually took me until I noticed the ‘title’ or description to realize what she was doing in that frame. I was initially wondering why she was making siren noises, but it makes sense now.
Were you Wally or The Beaver?
Unfortunately, I was an only child… so I was both!
Oh, how that screwed up my perception on life.
Could also be Daffy Duck, of course…
I live in New York and our public channels tend to show old reruns of the 3 Stooges during the afternoons. At least they did a decade ago. I haven’t been able to view public tv during the afternoon since.
I’m 21 i watched the three stooges all that time. A lot of channels like to show older shows, hell i would occasionally catch a MacGuyver episode playing. Still do sometimes.
I thought that since she works at a comic store, she would have art supplies in that tube. oh well… ruin another fantasy of mine.
I did web comic review of your blog. check it out when you have time.
Uh, where at?
Looks like he wrote this one: https://rainofgods.blogspot.com/
Interesting. I’m not familiar with “page rank” as he talks about it, but I know if you google “grrl power” I’m #1 on the results.
Maybe he google’d ‘girl power’?
If you google “page rank” you get some other thing that claims to be google related but isn’t google branded. Maybe it has something to do with the google toolbar or something but I don’t use any toolbars in my browser.
I always thought it was, “woob woob woob,” not “woo bwoo bwoo.”
I’ve seen woop woop woop and other spellings. I don’t think you can quite nail it with the English alphabet, but woo bwoo bwoo bwoo is what it sounds like to me.
Don’t worry about the age thing. Just the other day my little 8 year old sister was watching them and wouldn’t let me turn the channel. Anyone who doesn’t know the Three Stooges is an idiot.
right so…just cause i havent seen something it makes me an idiot? i dont fucking watch tv you dickhead stop being an idiot and think before you write something!
No but the steam of profanity sure does confirm your level of ignorance.
The 3 stooges predate TV for one thing.
The other is that they are still a part of popular culture that spans both generations and cultures.
You would have to either be VERY young or totally cutoff from the rest of the world until VERY recently to not have ever heard of them.
In either case – how did you get loose and gain access to a computer with access to the net?
listen the first person said anyone who doesent know the three stooges is an idiot and that is a retarded comment to make understand? another thing..profanity does not equal ignorence.. i am 18 i do not watch tv and am acctually quite smart now listen up! just because someone does not know one measly little thing that does not make them a fucking idiot! GET IT?
Ignorant? Maybe not.
Without manners? Definitely so.
That or you’re a troll. Which pretty much fulfills point #2 as well.
Did Nicole overexagerate with the idiot remark? Surely so. But that does not justify your language at all.
How did you learn all those nasty words if not from TV? Oh right the internets
i learned them from reading books…do you know what a book is?
Yes. I’m even old enough to remember what mail is, not the e kind. Hell I had a record player and a tape deck too.
Meh! I used to listen to a wind-up Victrola.
You kids today and your record players, and your rock and roll, and your bubblegum, and your surfboards, and you and your xboxes, and your technicolor ponies, and your lightsabers, and your high fructose corn syrup, and your edible panties, and your ninjas, and your vaccines, and your potable water, and your nonalcoholic beer, and your instant noodles, and your very long lists, and your world wars, and your crotchety old people, and your moving pictures, and your overly long gags, and your tv tropes.
In my day, we had rocks, and if we were really good, we’d get a stick for our birthdays! I was the first kid on the farm to get a stick. I used to love showing off by tying a small sharp rock to the tip and throwing it at the town ghost, but that ended when some folks from out of town showed up and ruined our fun. They caught the ghost, and showed us all it was old man Wilson. It was such a great game, but then those damn meddling kids had to ruin it for everyone!
ah yes back when one had to do all the math in their head. good times man, gooood times.
are those train noises she is making ?
Nope, this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EuTzsi6WT6Q
It’s at 0:28
knowing that this is a superhero comic, something is bound to happen at the bank while she is there.
Or on the way there.
Technically, now that I think about it Zoidburg is probably making three stooges noizes. :P
Definitely. Half his act is homage to Curly.
well zoidberg is suposed to be a jewish lobster which is a joke in of is self cuz jewish people cant eat shellfish and as we know from adamsandlers chaunka songs and anyone whom know ther stogges they were also jewish so its makes perfect sence that zoidberg should emulate earths greatest slap stick comedians
Another component to tat joke is that zoidburg wanted to be a comedian whin he grew up. But that has nothing to do with how he acts. That’s just hi normal behavior. :P
hey dave, you should submit to do a comic for the gutters. here’s the link to the submission’s page if you’re interested: https://www.the-gutters.com/artist/submissions
Hmm, I don’t know that I qualify as a “professional artist” at this point. Also I don’t have much of an online portfolio other than this page, and a DA page that sits largely unused. Eventually I’ll have enough good solid pieces that it would constitute a portfolio, but that’s a ways off I think.
Incorrect comment on the bottom there I am a girl and I have been making those noises for years… granted everyone just thinks I’m copying Dr. Zoidberg nowadays, but whatever he was copying Curly first. ^.^ Woob bwoo bwoo bwoo bwoo …..nyuk nyuk nyuk!
I was thinking, briefly, that she was making Bruce Lee noises.
AMC runs them every week. And many DVD’s.
Nah, age shouldn’t be a factor, I just have to find the box, but at 14-16 (Somewhere in that age because I’m paranoid) I listen to music from the 60’s and watch cartoons almost all from the 40s-60s, so age is no issue, although Zoidberg is pretty great… (V)(;,,;)(V)
Spoiler Warning……
You know if you want the character peggy to be even more badass with her sniping skills you might add this little jobbie to her arsenal NTW 20 there is also a video on Youtube Here
crap….I am not a web publisher. here and here
Imma girl and I make curly noises.
sooooo… just doing an archive dive… rereading through to remind myself of what’s been up… and i just realized that she needs to do some ‘splaining to Joel at some point cuz she has yet to make it back to the shop for several hours now… i mean, i’m sure he saw the news about the bank but still…
To this day I still don’t know what “The Three Stooges” is.
Probably some american thing. I’m not really up-to-date on old american things.
I’m a little more familiar with old British comedy, for obvious reasons… whether only as old as Monty Python’s Flying Circus … or perhaps something like Chaucer.
Man, the Canterbury Tales are so awesome. =3
I’m sure on first viewing the humor doesn’t really hold up, but these guys are like the grand daddys of slapstick. Vaudeville would be the great grand daddy.

Hey Dave, I never commented the first time I read this, but I’m 21 and I rather enjoy the Stooges, though they aren’t my favourites. However, I’ve always enjoyed old stuff; my first favourite live-action shows were The Munsters and The Addams Family (that should tell you another thing right there), and my first musical loves, as in since I was TWO, were Elton John, The Beatles, Elvis, and Roy Orbison. I still get twitchy when the Van Halen cover of “Pretty Woman” plays, and I’ve gotten a good deal upset when a friend of mine didn’t even KNOW it was a cover. Thankfully, his mom was similarly upset, so we showed him the true path.
Addendum: also fairly early in my life, Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby, Bach, and Beethoven were added to that list, though my first exposure to Beethoven was, admittedly, through TSO.
As someone who is roughly twice your age, it’s difficult for me to predict what sort of pop culture awareness someone just graduating highschool for instance will have. I usually assume that everyone has seen Star Wars (Ep IV I mean) but that seems to be less and less the case sadly. It used to be that everyone had seen Duck Soup with the Marx brothers, and I hadn’t, so I recently tried to watch it. I get that it was made in a very different time but I couldn’t get through it. It was basically just a stand up routine disguised as a movie. So yeah, I kind of have to guess about that stuff.
Well, I’m a bit of an atypical case in many ways. I still don’t get most pop culture stuff, and the majority of it is irritating. I’ve always lived in fantasy novels, honestly, rather than this POS reality. I learned at a VERY early age that reading was an excellent escape, and I rapidly learned that the same is true for video games. Though I usually play giant RPGs, my first games (and still 2 of my favourites) are PONG and Duck Hunt.
I hate that dog. So. Much.
Reading this again, I just love how she says, “Back in an hour!” and doesn’t come back for the whole rest of the day.
Agreed. I was just about to make a similar comment.
love the foreshadowing though…
I should hold my self back from this, but i won’t. ^_^
“Sydney is probably the only girl who makes Curly noises… in bed.”
Curly noises? I thought it was Zoidberg!
Zoidberg, Homer, and Bart all got them from Curly.
when did homer or bart go whoop whoop whoop whoop?
I really like Joel, he’s a good character. Although I wonder when Oliva and her brosin will show up again.
i love the zoidberg noises and her little maybe.
