Grrl Power #249 – Much like gravy, the plot thickens
Much like…
- the waist of a quality tester at Doritos
- the glasses of an aging nerd
- someone taking steroids and thinking that by itself will make them buff but not really working out
- the skull of an increasingly stupid person
…the plot thickens.
So this page may bring up a question or two. Will they be answered soon? The answer is yes, obviously, but stay tuned all the same. Same Grrl Time, same Grrl Channel.
Not really too much else to say about this page, so be sure to check out the updated vote incentive. It’s a work in progress and I need some input, so check out the accompanying post.

That’s supposed to be a reply to https://www.grrlpowercomic.com/archives/1484#comment-250838
Looks like Opal’s tongue changed color in frame 4. It’s still purple in frame 3 though :p
Purple in both frames
Frame 4 had a red tongue and purple lips.
Frame 3 has both lips and tongue purple.
Note to DaveB: I think I just found one problem that people might be having with the commenting system. When javascript isn’t enabled for the site (e.g., running Firefox with NoScript), clicking the “reply”, the reply gets “orphaned”.
not true for me at least, i’m running FF and NS and all i did was to click the “reply” link in the actual post that i want to reply to… YOUR post Deof, and Viola’ … the reply is actually under the post that i’m replying to… so i think it’s something ELSE than that…
“One” problem, not “the” problem. And I can confirm it was a problem, at least with me, because before allowing scripts to run on the site, the replies did not appear under the comment despite my having hit the “Reply” link and after I did allow scripts (and made no other changes), they did.
Interesting … still waiting to see what Vehemence meant by “challenge accepted” way back when, post maximas press demo. We’ve seen 3 of the 7 super villain groups … wonder what the other 4 are doing …
Plan within plans …
Max may want to spar without him doing anything to get arrested for.
Supers fighting doesn’t have to be till death or arrest.
I reckon that Vehemence wants to A) Fight Maxima, and B) Join the team because he liked Sidney
I like that second idea.
Or he liked Sydney and so wanted her to live long enough to reach her full potential as an enemy. Warrior race logic…
I would be more inclined to accept such an explanation if he had only wished that she survived. The added “good kid” designation, however, makes it harder for me to do so.
Its like Klingon logic where they all can meet up have drinks and laughs while trading good natured jibes about how they just all tried to, and sometimes succeeded, in killing each other. If he is a warrior type or just really mercenary then he may see everybody as a potential enemy so being his enemy may not really affect whether he likes you as a person or not. If he is the warrior type then liking you may include liking fighting you rather that someone he can’t respect.
That sort of guy is almost always fun to watch. Not always fun to have to go again.
Oooh, lemme guess! A skintight force field/inertial repellant! If he was just invincible like Achillies, he would still be getting buffeted by the telekinetic force field.
I meant to say telekinetic tornado.
Same as Max’s zero range TK field.
I am continually impressed by the strip. Two things are funny though. Firstly, someone criticised the opening scene 2 pages ago where I thought it was the best thing on the page, stylistically then the same happened with dun dun dunnnn – great touch but not to everyones taste apparently. Cant please all the people all the time. Second thing is the level of detail we debate and argue. Despite that, though, Dave is still managing to steer the plot sometimes in directions we didn’t see coming. The appearance/actions of Vehemence as opposed to all the speculation despite the fact we all knew he had been watching.
Do a Google search for site:grrlpowercomic.com and that person’s screen name. You’ll see it’s one of his modi operandi.
don’t sugar-coat it… the person in question is a Troll…
And as always,
PLEASE DO NOT FEED THE TROLL!
Interesting. Opal seems to be fairly powerful, although we don’t yet know the limits of her powers. Setting up an individual portal for EACH person (& I refer you to the lists elsewhere for the total numbers here) is a rather daunting prospect, especially when she just “interrupted” herself to port Stalwart away. I can see why she was recruited (surprising that Archon didn’t recruit her, given her potential for tactical logistic support). Supers who can level small cities are relatively common, but someone who can put what’s needed where it’s needed on short notice, and pull bystanders out of the way to boot, that’s harder to find. Common is valuable. Little things like convenient movement of troops & equipment are things that keep the military from grinding to a halt. Going public, Opal would have had enough offers of legitimate employment to be able to write her own paycheck. Makes you wonder why she’s here now….
Thrillseeker .
Sociopath.
In love with Vecktor.
or, as some of us suspect, under mind control of some kind… can’t rule that out either…
Very improbable considering her greedy approach to the escape attempt.
I see that, but he still looks unformed in those panels. Also plain invulnerability doesn’t explain how he got past Arc-Swat with Maxima on overwatch. Either he took them all out. Is actually an Arc member or has a power that let him get by unnoticed. He may not be forming out of the smoke but It sort of appears that way.
The Dude is potentially very dangerous. I really think he knew how and how hard to hit to to incapacitate rather than kill. That is much much much harder to do than striking to kill. He likely has a level of skill that even Math would likely acknowledge. X as well if his ability to slip past ARC-SWAT and catch Opal & Vektor off guard is any indication. His strength is at least and durability up to Stalwart’s level. He’s also not stupid, maybe not on par with Dabbler but definitely no slouch, perhaps even smart enough to use ARC-SWAT to take out the guy he knew he’d have issues with (The PBS). Good or bad, he’s definitely not someone to take lightly.
I’ve been archive diving over at Order of the Stick and just saw this comic. Maybe he could get Vehemence to do it instead?
Just noticed Vehemence, Vector, and Opal on pg. 186. Aka the page that shows future villains/antagonists.
I only see Vehemence. None of the others look like a good match.
And after rereading for a third time it’s still an amazing comic.
(One that might even have a new page released today, if I’m lucky.)
Updates Mondays & Thursdays 6am central standard time
Or Central Daylight Time when that’s happening.
Mostly.
Mostly
Please tell me at some point Sydney is going to call Opal, Chell
Only if she’s still alive after that hit.
She’ll probably be. First and foremost this is a comedy. Action and Drama are a staple of this work but they are often a platform and more fuel for the jokes. Dave also mention killing the characters sets the wrong mood.
Wow, it turns out he was severely allergic to paprika after all.
DUN DUN DUNNNNNNN.
Love this man SOOO much right now. :D
I know he’s a villain but I love him already.
