Grrl Power #13 – Slashing prices and/or customers
Comic!
Not too much to say about this one other than it’s one of the last ones with art that’s over a year old. Hopefully the comic will be a little more consistent from here on out.

“Effing Doy”??
I can guess the ‘Effing’, but what’s ‘Doy’? ‘Duh’?
I’m looking forward to the new art.
Maybe Sydney will be more cute.
Yeah, doy is another way of saying duh, only funnier, IMO.
I’m definitely trying to keep Sydney in the cute zone, even if she’s scrunching her face up and shooting her customers with hate rays. It’s challenging though, I spent about an hour working on her doing different expressions in a strip last night. The hardest part is all the expressions she goes though. I’m finding myself drawing thing that I’ve honestly never seen in a comic before, like an expression of concerned + worried + “if you insist but I hardly believe it myself” If you can picture that.
“If you can picture that.” It’s easy to picture, but nigh impossible to draw. I’m looking forward to seeing how your style develops.
Cat Legend (cat-legend.com) used to have faces that carried multiple emotions, some of the best I’d ever seen in a web comic, but then the artist changed her style.
Oh. I thought that was spelled “doi.”
I’ve seen it both ways. It’s not like it’s in the dictionary, though I admit, the phrase “effing doy” might be difficult to parse on it’s own.
Hmm. The Urban Dictionary gives 86 votes for “doi” and 106 for “doy.” I guess that settles it.
I prefer “duh”, because otherwise, it gets a bit too close to “d’oh”, IMO.
Nice comic, btw, and refreshing to have a female lead without the “most common superpower”.
Thanks. There will definitely be a few characters that fill that role, hopefully to humorous ends.
Yes, it must be difficult to indicate ‘eye roll’ in a static medium.
(Don’t use Java!)
At least she didn’t ‘head desk’ as that could have really hurt. And that guy really didn’t check on e-bay first…
She needs to introduce Brad’s head to a desk….. repeatedly.
Awesome job with the comic, I am sure to follow this.
Thanks!
Bookmarked and in my feed reader.
Hm. Nice art style and the plot seems entertaining, so I bookmarked it ^.^ Hope you keep updating!
Thanks, I intend to. I haven’t even introduced most of the main characters. Can’t quit now.
nice comic i look forward to more
Very intresting…. only disapointment is in how few pages are up yet. Look foreward to seeing more.
Thanks. Believe me you’re not the only one disappointed. I’ll figure out a way to post more often but I’ll do one a week for sure.
well just found your web comic. i am looking forward to your next update. your story is quite promising.
I’m glad to see your art again on the net… Are you trying to go the the route that Adam Warren’s empowered is going? First safe and cute then serious and bloody?
It’s not a bad comparison really. I’ve had the idea for this comic in an ever evolving form for way longer than Empowered has been around but yeah, superheroes, action comedy, romance and probably some raw sexual activity eventually, though I don’t plan on being quite as goofy as Empowered and conversely probably not quite as brutal but we’ll see.
Man alive, I’ve typed and retyped my message here in this box trying to express how excited I am to read this comic and I still haven’t gotten it down right. I await this comic with stereotypically heavy bated geek breath
its kinda sad that or comics are starting to pardody reality with the level of moronity in some of the populous, all the same i am very happy to have stubled on to your comic here and have and hope to further enjoy reading them
When I wrote the Brad character I had been reading through the archive of notalwaysright.com. I’m not a fan of 2 dimensional characters, but honestly in a mostly funny comic, some characters are going to need to exhibit certain traits pretty strongly.
I like this comic so far. Just wanted to say it.
Thanks a lot!
The guy seems like pointing at stuff and making statements :D
Dave… I’ve also bookmarked “Not Always Right”.
I’m dissappoint that that site doesn’t allow reader comments.
In many of the posts the people in NAR are impossibly stupid.
Have they experienced a head injury?
Are they extraterrestrials? Time Travelers? From a parallel universe?
“Why won’t the speech recognition turn my PC on?”
To resonable people like us, it’s obviously because when the PC is off
IT’S NOT LISTENING!!!
Sorry to be off topic…
I’m looking forward to the next installment!
I suspect that some of the stories on NAR are “this is what I should have said” or are at least slightly exaggerated, but as a friend of mine once said, never underestimate human stupidity. Actually, Einstein himself said “Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I’m not sure about the former.”
in the last pannel… i have actually had that kinda thing happen to me…. wound up going *facepalm* cuz i felt so stupid afterwards
I accidentally made a duplicate comment. I couldn’t return to fix it or anything so I lost it. Hope you can fix that. I had no out to go. No way to cancel the extra one. (PITA)
I see the Manga influences with the emotion cartoon conversions of the character. I see the same things is Full Metal Alchemist-Brotherhood. It gives your comic and almost anime feel to it.
O.o WTF is his hand doing in the last panel?
Finger snap???
*tries it* OH GOD MY HAND IT HURTS.
am curently rereading
art changed a lot
there is a typo:
apendectomy 2*p
Whoops, sure is. I’ll add that to my ever growing fix list. :)
Did Sydney mean “Maybe that’s what he wants you to think?” or is Joel actually a woman. I am so confused right now. Why didn’t I notice this during my second or fourth reread?
She’s referring to herself in third person. She = Sydney.
Unfortunately, murder is still illegal. Spittle is a rather ineffective murder weapon anyway.
You know… reading back on this…. I have to question how old that appendectomy scar is. When my sister got her appendix removed in the 90’s, they were already using the procedure where they go in through your navel.
