Grrl Power #160 – Explodiest beam vs. the shieldiest shield
I mostly did this page to start to get a feel for doing larger action panels. These aren’t bad but they’re hardly on par with the gold standards of stuff like Onepunch Man or Black God or the Cammy manga by Masahiko Nakihara or whatever else tops everyone’s lists. Arguably like many manga, they tend to over rely on speed lines, but if I have to chose between that or the pathetic looking action of most western comics, I’ll go the speed lines route. Whatever the case I still have lots to learn and improve on.
Since there’s not too much to discuss about this page, maybe people can share some of their favorite action comics, manga or western. I’m sure there are some western ones that do acceptable action but I read so few of them these days I’m sure there’s plenty I’ve missed.
Since I know it will come up, Maxima is firing a particle beam, not a laser. :)
What is Max’s suit made of that is not damaged by the radiant heat of that plasma blast, which is clearly enough to damage the ground below it as it passes.
Did you not notice that she has her force field activated?
nvm you said “max” not sid, my bad
Mmm, don’t know why this went unanswered before. Maxima’s power can extend from her to include things she is touching. So the same force field, which she uses to protect her skin, is also stopping her clothing from being damaged.
Anyone else think freeza’s death beam when they saw this?
I suspect that Maxima’s uniform (clothes in general) must be made of Kevlar type materials and space age from NASA synthetics but in rad colors of course. Maybe even altered textures. Weight wouldn’t matter much since Maxima’s strength is considerably more than the average human.
It’s been mentioned Maxima’s powers come from some kind of energy field manipulation. So I’d guess it extends beyond her body, like when she lifted the ambulance and the ambulance didn’t get wrecked.
Correct. Mind you, she probably still has a cool outfit. Bear in mind she does need to shift her capabilities from one area to another. So if there is a situation where she needs to dump all her power into offence, say, it will not hurt to have some extra protection. Nominal though it may be, compared to even her basic, unenhanced, toughness.
if you look close the beam doesn’t form directly. it’s more like she’s throwing it and then it forms so it’s probably to far away to do big damage to her cloths and if they are heat and fire resistant as well then even less likely to catch on fire.
i just gotta say this. with the profile pics at the top on this one, Peggy looks a little like she’s related to TinTin…
(giggles)
I’m so loving this womic (short for web comic, think it’ll catch on?)
and just geek~gasming over the sound of Maxima’s finger blast being the name of a game… (giggles more)
“Womic” sounds like a contraction of “woman comic.”
SYDNEY STOP YOU’LL BRING THE ORKS!
Unstoppable force meets immovable object.
Note: not at all related to the text-based adventure game.
manga is definetly the way to go if you want to get inspiration for fight scenes, i mean just compare this

american comics are almost pathetic in their action scenes while manga goes all out and shows some insane drawings
