December Vote Incentive
Since I’m rushed this month with the Austin Webcomics Rampage coming up, I’m going to break out an old commission for you. This is Maxima as drawn by the Father of American Manga, Ben Dunn. His early work on Ninja High School was essentially my introduction into manga and it’s safe to say it was formative. I got this at A-kon in 2001. Colors by me… 11 years ago. She mostly looks the same but as you can see I futzed with their chokers before settling on what they have now.
You can vote here to see it.
Cute take on her. One of my proudest possessions is a sketch of one of my own characters, by Larry Elmore, done inside the cover of a D&D manual at a GenCon. I was all tongue-tied trying to speak to him. I have a version of that character in any game I play, if I can rationalise an elf in it. So I appreciate how much this picture means to you.
Wish I could go to the rampage and see you an all the other great webcomics artists, but I’ve got to work.
That picture is 11 years old? Wow.
Great image!
At first I was wondering if there was a pun involved, as a Ben and a Dunn are both types of mountains in Gaeldom, and if anyone could make a Ben out of a Dunn….. Scott, from Ben Lomond Ca.
Oh my gosh. You managed to make Maxima look CUTE!
If I were you, I would duck and cover. If she sees that, she WILL kill you. 0_O
You seem to be popular at Antarctic Press, Dave. First gift art from Fred Perry, now Ben Dunn.
Well, AP is popular with me. It’s not gift art, these are commissions I got over the years. Still, I know them and a few of them know me, they’re a possibility when it comes to publishing volume 1 of this thing.
good drawing… but I never did get the chokers… None of the supers look like they are ever inhibbited… so what do they do?
They are probably imbedded with a tracking chip or something, so they can keep track of them and make sure they aren’t doing anything wrong, or are an imposter sneaking in with shapeshifting/illusion powers.
How much do I love this comic. I keep reading it to my wife because she doesnt want to get into another web comic like i got her hooked on last time. So now I read it word for word then show her the art. I will get her hooked. This is by far my Favorite you will always have my vote. When you publish I will buy it!
Hah hah thanks. If your wife is worried about the time commitment of getting into another comic, remind her I only update once a week. :)
I like your art better, so consider yourself flattered I guess! ;)
+1 thumbs up
Is it possible to get the maker’s emal address? I really would like to chat with him for some help.
Hit me up on Twitter or Facebook. I also have grrlpowercomic – at – gmail.com but I don’t check it often. I think I have it set up to forward to my regular email though. At least I hope I do.
