Grrl Power #956 – Chromaphile
Imagine if everyone had to wear one of these and the colors randomized every morning. Yeah. I’m sure… something would be different. Fashion probably. And we could all learn some lesson like the Star Bellied Sneetches. Or just find other motivations for tribalism.
Yes, Daphne dyes her eyebrows. It’s probably an impractical thing to try and do honestly, which I assume mostly because of how many “blonde” girls have brunette eyebrows. Fortunately Daphne’s a natural strawberry blonde, so darkening them up to purple or black isn’t a major issue, but co-ed has white hair and Vogue is blonde, so in those cases, she probably has to bleach them out first before coloring them back in. Well, with Vogue she does. Co-ed is just a bleach job.
Being an officer, Maxima did go to college, but it was ROTC heavy and partially done online or at night while she also did military stuff. Still, that probably didn’t stop her from writing some fairly eye-roll inducing papers about feminist theory. Which isn’t to suggest there isn’t a lot of perfectly legitimate subject matter to be had there, but like a lot of people finding themselves in college for the first time, some of Max’s earlier thinking might have… overcorrected when it came to addressing gender balance in the world. Fortunately, she has mellowed out considerably on the subject matter. She still has the occasional urge to go on a tear though, especially after the Weinstein/Cosby/that guy who was digitally edited out of Army of the Dead/etc scandal of the month drops, or having to deal with the deeply institutionalized sexism of large swathes of military culture.
Obviously, Kenya has known Max long enough that she can tease her about her earlier collegiate theses. Especially the one about women having some kind of remote that controls whether or not men have erections. In Max’s defense, that one was half Juvenalian satire and half sexual fantasy.

Interesting face on Dabbler, too. I like it. But is it a change from previous strips or a reaction to her party clothes?
erm…who is that guy who was digitally edited out of Army of the Dead? I apparently missed that memo.
You remember the annoying chick who was the pilot who was always standing by her self and trying to be funny? Yeah she was edited in over the guy.
No idea about anything else, but there you go.
You sound upset about someone facing repercussions for his actions. I suggest going for a walk in nature.
How about answering the damn question with a damn name?
I thought you weren’t going to be here anymore because of the ads. Whatever happened to that?
Never expect entitled whiners to actually follow through on anything they say.
Hm, logical.
There’s “facing repercussions”, and then there’s “defacing art for political point-scoring”, and evidently Grid believes that the editing was more a defacement than it was an effective repercussion. Doesn’t mean that Grid disagrees with actions having consequences, just that they think that particular consequence was ineffective as a censure in comparison to its impact on the film.
To me this entire case is irrelevant, but your statement is really interesting.
You say facing repercussions about a non-court action about criminal. I’m curious what’s your opinion about the following set of things.
The American 5th amendment. Is it still needed when criminal cases are partly punished by the public anyway.?
The division of power/the trias politica. Does this pose a threat to the already weak interperting power by dividing their power or does it strengthen her by decentralizing power?
Is this justified with the controlling power of the media or the reign of the people that comes from democracy or maybe something else?
Does this mean I should not be prosecuted if I work a pedophile in the hospital or the opposite?
Should this mean that if somebody gets public repercussions for something, but is later found innocent they have the right for compensation from those who gave them these “repercussions”?
about criminal=about criminal actions
Who’s the one “facing repercussions” in these sort of things? The public is denied a particular piece of art in the pursuit of punishing the artist, on the assumption that the artist benefits more from public consumption of their work than the public does. “You did something we disapprove of, so we’re going to restrict your ability to contribute positively to the world”. That seems like pretty backwards logic to me.
You’re right, it IS backwards logic. Which should be a hint that it isn’t the right logic.
Like perhaps him being present in the film gives him various contractual rights/monetary rewards. Editing him out punishes him by denying him them. As well as him having less exposure of his work, because regardless of how “positive” you feel his acting in army of the dead might have been, it still benefits him.
Do you also complain that jails restrict someones ability to contribute positively?
And that’s ignoring that you seem to consider his acting some divine and immaculate piece of art that was sacrosanct…when no, the optics of him being a creep affect his “art” anyway. His image is associated with what he does. The film makers did not want that, in THEIR film making art, and that is their decision. He’s a tool, and a poor one at that.
I’m vaguely aware of scenes being cut from movies specifically to deny the actor payment, because they’re working under an arrangement in which part or all of their pay is dependent on their work being used. I think there’s a problem with any arrangement in which someone isn’t paid for the work they do. Whether it’s used or not, they still did the work.
I’m also opposed to conflating wealth with morality, in part because it leads to self-justifying loops in which people are presumed to be moral because they are wealthy, and thus deserving of even more wealth, when their wealth is actually a product of immoral behavior.
I also think the moral value of an action depends on the action, not the target. Stealing is wrong, regardless of who you’re stealing from. The morality of killing someone or burning their house down isn’t dependent on how good of a person they are.
Yes, I do complain that jails cause additional harm, and think that the criminal justice system should be focused on restitution, rather than punishment. The world isn’t made better by harming the criminal. The criminal should be made to contribute positively to the world, to make up for their crimes.
So no, my opinion has nothing to do with this particular actor or movie, neither of which I know anything about. And I’m not criticizing the filmmakers for the choice they made either, since it’s their film, and thus their decision to make about who or what to include or exclude. My complaint is about the moral framework that other people are operating under.
…. yeah, Army of the Dead is completely unwatchable ever since a dude was edited out because the studio didn’t want to associate with a rapist. Man are you full of shit or what.
I’d say its unwatchable because its just a really bad movie that makes no sense, even for a zombie movie. And I usually love bad zombie movies.:)
Don’t remember that character at all, no. I DO remember Tig Nataro’s character though, which is the actress who replaced Chris D’Elia’s rapist ass.
Side note: Fuck him for bringing shame to my name with his actions.
You might try to be accurate in your slander, Dark. No accusations of “rape” involved. D’Elia’s just a pervert.
https://pagesix.com/2021/03/03/chris-delia-accused-of-soliciting-nudes-from-17-year-old/
You don’t have to agree with the description of Tig being annoying, but “standing by herself” is a fact. She performed on green screen, which is never as funny to me as actors playing against each other in real time. Eddie Murphy is really funny when he’s not directing three of himself…. or one of himself.
https://nypost.com/2021/05/14/army-of-the-dead-star-tig-notaro-chris-delia-facing-consequences/
Written, it’s Libel.
But beside the point, you’re right, he’s not a rapist. He’s a pedophile.
He’s not even a pedophile, but, if the accusations are true, an ephebophile.
Again, accusations. Innocent until proven guilty is a still a thing, contrary to the monstrously distorted group think of social media.
Still, it’s funny how quickly people on the internet (and in real life) make the jump from hearing a man has merely been accused of inappropriate activity to screeching “HE’S A F**KING RAAAPIIIIST!!!”, while those same people don’t blink an eye when a female teacher, or other position of authority gets cited in the news for ‘having inappropriate sexual relations with a 14 year old’, as opposed to being called what they actually are, a rapist.
I’m not trying to justfy this dude’s actions, which, if he is indeed guilty of, not only is he a scumbag, but he’s a criminal. But it would just be nice if, for once in a blue moon, people would sit back and rationally consider things instead of jumping to their entirely preconceived and biased notions.
Of course, we know that’s never going to happen because dem humans love fighting.
Evidently they do….
It’s a bit late to even slightly walk it back, with that poisonous “I’m not trying to justify this dudes actions but”, after you felt the need to dump a bunch of complaining about how “those women always get away with it, how dare they screech about men but not women”…while providing evidence of people on the internet, screeching about women. No, people definitely blink an eye at it. They are condemned and removed and imprisoned. The few times that it DOESN’T happen, are made into huge news, specifically because it appeals to your sort of narrative.
And considering it rationally, it doesn’t really matter what flavor of creepy pervert that targets underage people he is, it is still a tangible effect on his public image and one that would be detrimental to a film. So the artists choice to remove him is valid.
And yeah, he isn’t yet proven guilty in a court of law, but if you think rationally, you’ll realize that when talking about facebook messages and solicitations…there’s evidence. I’m sure that you FEEL like a court case can get this far with absolutely no evidence, and plenty of fellow screechers will happily agree. But that isn’t a fact, it’s a preconceived and biased notion.
I’m not walking anything back. I never tried to justify his actions. I even went so far as to say that should a person looking to take my words out of context try to suggest it, and you did anyway.
I didn’t say women. I said “people”. Specifically. Several times. You trying to twist my statement into some sort of rant against “THEM DURN FEMALES” is just a shallow attempt to undermine my overall statement on people blowing things out of proportion based on their own biases, and then twisting the facts, which you are doing here to me.
It is not “my sort of narrative”. It is something that happens frequently, too frequently, and I’m sick of seeing it happen. I despise when the news media softballs one entity while giving another entity the business in the same exact circumstances – bias should not exist in the news and people shouldn’t encourage it, or let their own biases get in the way of their interpretation of events, as done by the individual above I was complaining about.
Further, it *does* matter ‘what flavor of creepy pervert that targets underage people’ he is. It also matters how those words are interpreted by the people reading them. Specifically, as you stated, facebook messages and solicitation of a 17 year old. Not rape. Also, evidence, not conviction.
I never once stated that I disagreed with the company’s decision to remove him. That is their choice: they have to maintain their brand and their image, and being associated with someone who is accused of improper behavior with a minor isn’t profitable or moral. Again, you put words into my mouth that I neither said nor suggested (and here’s where I get to be angry) YOU DON’T GET TO F**KING DO THAT.
This is the sort of behavior I was talking about in my original post. You twisted my words around and then suggested things I didn’t even say based on your own biases and preconceived notions.
Thank you for providing a perfect example of what I was pointing out above.
Feel free to rant back and me and further attempt twist my words and insert ones I didn’t say – I’m not responding to you again as you’re exactly the type of individual that I find so frustrating in modern conversation – you opened with admitting that you’re one of those people who likes to fight on the internet and I have no interest in that. Take that as whatever kind of victory or cop-out that you want, I’m not wasting any more precious mental energy on someone so determined to waste it.
Did he know the girl was only 17 when he tried to get pics?
And was that Hanson dude involved? (kinda ironic what happened with him)
Yep. He commented on her high school “spirit day” photos.
Nice whataboutism with hanson though. You talking about the larceny after a check bounced with a vendor who delivered promotional items? Not very ironic.
Or are you trying to conflate harassment (not sexual harassment) with sexually soliciting a minor? Cos again, not very ironic.
You are aware that 18 year olds can still be in high school, right?
Just out of curiosity, which state was the 17 year old in? Just wondering because statutory ages for consent differ from state to state. In 33 states (plus DC, which isnt a state), the age of consent is 16; in 6 states, the age of consent is 17; and in 11 states, the age of consent is 18. Also in a few of the 16 year old states it sometimes natters on the age difference of the man and woman.
Doesnt make it ‘not creepy,’ but I am wondering for the legality aspect.
I’m sure it gets even more complicated if the sender and recipient are in different jurisdictions with different statutory ages. That’s not such an issue with ‘contact’ cases, as the location of the contact can define the jurisdiction, but it adds an extra potential dimension to ‘non-contact’ cases such as (only) sending pictures.
Looking at Harem’s dress I’m wondering how she has so much support without a bra. There are adhesive bras, but they can’t really support breasts that big…
She is a super heroine. Gravity defying breasts are the most common superpower.
Bras come in in half cups and quarter cups too and low backs no problem. Also… possible corset.
I got lost in the mall one time… *shudders*
She is a succubus; it may well just work under “rule of sexy”.
Dabbler’s the succubus. Harem’s a super. :)
Which still just works under “rule of sexy.”
For some superheroines…”She can bench press an 18-wheeler. The villains who designed her were sexist pigs. Well, they were. ” For others: “The feminine unmentionable is made of stainless steel It will not deform.”
In this case, I don’t believe there is an unmentionable involved. The dress is clearly made of unobtanium-spun spidersilk…. like military-grade kevlar/spandex, but slippery.
No, no, remember, they’re way ahead of the game on outfits. Aside from having fashion ninjas and a textilemancer who can weave fibers into fabric without even using a loom and make blue jeans “bullet resistant” on staff, remember that one of the recruits is basically a huge human-shaped sack of spiders.
If Harem wants outfits outta unobtanium spider silk? Bam. She don’t gotta bother with military-grade Kevlar/spandex, she can do better just asking a couple of her workmates to do her a favor. (Well, I say “couple”…. but seriously, there’s gotta be several tens of thousands of spiders in there. Good thing they all get along so well).
It’s not entirely clear to me that he’s actually a human shaped sack of spiders, or he was just having some fun at Halo’s expense. Has that ever been cleared up?
Nope. And that’s the way I like it.
According to the author blurb on page #331, Vance was just messing with Sydney, but Dave may change his mind and make it true at whatever point Vance is actually involved in the story and using his powers.
Im assuming he cant be a sack of spiders in an artificial human suit because Varia’s power worked on him when she touched him. So he isnt wearing an artificial human suit.
Hrrm, that is interesting. Yeah, Varia touched him in #323 when demonstrating her power, and… got very shiny and metallic.
C’mon, the chit chat between Vance and Harem should have made that perfectly clear.
True, I’m just correcting the statement that Harem’s a succubus, not anything specific about her sex appeal. :)
a long time ago in a movie that might still be funny, a woman had a name that translated to ‘she whose bosom defies gravity’. I’d name the move but well its unclassified controlled information.
There was a Young Justice comic book where the supervillain’s name was Nina Dowd and she went by the supervillain name “Mighty Endowed.”
and the author escaped your List!?!?! though wasn’t young justice canceled?
I made an exception for alliterative names. I was far more forgiving back then, before law school whittled away my soul bit by bit.
Her name was Nina Dowd.
N. Dowd.
When she got her powers, she called herself added ‘Mighty’ to her name. Like Sydney did with Halo.
Mighty N. Dowd.
Mighty Endowed.
Sort of have to give credit for that one.
‘made an exception for alliterative’ should have been ‘made an exception for alliterative and clever names back then.’
Look at you, using three words when two will do. You might just have said it was top secret, eh? And if it was really important, you could have used an exclamation point.
Strong pectoral muscles. There are exercises women can do to strengthen their pecs, just like men. Harem’s a super though, so she kind of has a cheat code. *shrug*
Dabbler hacked Coras holo emitter and now is trying to get Max wearing a version. I wonder why.
I can just picture saying that to Harem. She would go on a rant about how amazingly firm her boobs are and how you have no right to even speculate that she might need a bra – though it is her prerogative to wear one if she likes – because these babies can stand up to ten mile bra-less jogs with no goddam clothes on at all and not even hurt goddamn it, and don’t you dare look at my eyes when I’m talking about them – my boobs are down THERE you idiot…..
Wow, that’s embarrassing. That was supposed to be a reply to a completely different post.
While I’m not going to archive dive to confirm, I’d wager that Harem was in the group of ladies that Maxima caught messing with Math and made them do laps braless. If I recall correctly there was universal bitching about the discomfort that caused.
.
No, those three were Varia, Heatwave, and Jiggawatt.
https://www.grrlpowercomic.com/archives/comic/grrl-power-594-well-this-is-just-mean/
https://www.grrlpowercomic.com/archives/comic/grrl-power-595-heres-mud-in-your-thong/
Wasn’t there something mentioned where Max tried to use makeup and other dyes and they just wouldn’t stay in?
I hope there’s a few panels where Max holds out on thanking them until she verifies that it will actually work, and then a few more where she comes to terms with whether she feels she’s compromising by “wearing makeup” I’d imagine that she’s had to spend a lot of effort convincing herself how important body acceptance is, since she basically had no choice before, but now that she does have a choice does she feel like she’s invalidating all that effort before?
I’ve always enjoyed Max for perfectly embodying that feminist dichotomy of doing something that she wants vs not wanting to appear as if she’s caving to societal expectations when what she wants happens to be the same as those expectations, as she has always done so with maturity (ei; not shaming anyone for pursuing societal norms for themselves) Something small like this could actually be a HUGE deal for her, and I’d love to see the path she takes in coming to terms with that.
There was… but Dabbler can beautify anything including Max :D
If I had to guess, this is less to make Maxima feel prettier or more self-confident or whatever else makeup has going for her since Maxima has enough of that.
The actual utility here seems to be to allow Maxima to go undercover. Not necessarily on official business, but being as famous and unique as she is, she probably just can’t go to the bar and have a drink with Kenya (like at Club Oontz, for example). This would allow her to do that, like “Agnes Tuttle.”
Is the age of majority where they live 18? What if it’s like most of Canada and it’s 19? Or many states where it is 21? How does your highschool comment hold up then?
Gah phone spazzed and I replied to wrong comment, sorry
There are no states where the age of consent is over 18. In moststates it’s 16, with some caveats for the age of the other partner sometimes. In a few states it’s 17, and in a little less than a dozen states it’s 18.
PS … the age of consent in Canada is 16, not 19, in most cases. The exception is “close in age” exceptions, when the age of consent is sometimes 14-15 depending on the relationship (ie, if one is in a position of authority over the other) and power dynamic of both partners – ie, if both are minors, or if the difference in age is 4-5 years or less.
On a sunny day with everyone at the beach, the retinas of everyone else in attendance with her thank you for this gift.
Panel 5 Max: “This is my eating cake and telling a lie face”.
Wonder what it would take to make Dabbler blush…
That’s easy.
Failing to get someone off. Ginormous humiliation for a succubus.
no, i have read the comic by stjepan sejic failing to get someone off kills them.
Which comic was that? The only one I’ve read was Twitch.
you probably need to join his patreon. just remember always read the fine print.
Ah’ve got most of his BDSM book series
he’s doing 3 other ones and his wife’s doing two.
Yeah, got two others as well, can’t remember their names right now :(
Ugh! The feminazi is strong with Maxima. -_- I’m so glad there are folks in her team that balance her out…namely Harem, Dabbler, and Anvil. :-/
Side note: Harem’s freckles…..yum! ^_^
Dude, that’s creepy. You’re creepy. Stop it.
Also, “femninazi”? Did you just fall out of a portal from the 4chan dimension?
Sensing denial here. Anvil straight up just called Max out on being a raging feminist; emphasis on the rage. The author then compounded it by saying in the under-comic-blog that, yes, Max is infected, and it took a lot of effort by her friends to shake her out of it.
“Infected?”
Really? What an interesting choice on your part. Please, elaborate.
Feminism is the at one time radical notion that women deserve equal respect and equal rights under the law; its opposite is misogyny. There is nothing wrong with the former and everything wrong with the latter.
As for rage: there are no mind-crimes. Max can feel anything she wants, and all we can judge her on is her behavior, which is exceedingly polite.
Anvil’s comments make it quite clear Max has obviously thought on the subject carefully, can substantiate her position with facts from history, and is not afraid of a fight on this (or any other) matter, but holds back when it would be professionally or socially inappropriate. Thus she is holding back on loudly denouncing what appears to be an inappropriate symbol of servitude, most likely because that’s just not what you do when given a gift. This lets her friend Anvil to continue a rational conversation. Good for them both.
I’m going to gloss over most of your post but just make one correction, although the choker thing has no historical basis (it came to the western world based on making fun of the French, and was popular in Egypt as a protective garment for high status people, especially men).
Anyway… the opposite of misogyny is not feminism, it’s misandry. Some people might say that Fourth Wave feminism tends to be misandrist but I don’t think you were meaning that, since that would not be about female equality, it would be about female supremacy.
I’m just being nitpicky on definitions though. :)
Most things have more than one “opposite”, because there are multiple axes along which something may be diametrically opposed. The simplest forms are usually the absence of a particular property, or the presence of a similar property with a different subject.
Break the word misogyny into its component parts, and its opposite could be either philogyny or misandry, depending on which part you invert.
Since there continue to be people in this world I will assume that there are lots of gynophiles out there.
Even so, misogyny is not the opposite of feminism, any more than misandry is the synonym of feminism. The opposite would literally be “anti-feminism” :)
You kinda skimmed past the “there can be more than one opposite” and still went with “the opposite”.
I was mainly focusing on how feminism does not mean misandry, so not sure how the opposite of feminism is misogyny. Think about it. This is how language works. Two words can mean the opposite but that means the opposite would be a synonym of the first word.
Ie:
First statement: the opposite of feminism is both anti-feminism AND misogyny.
Second statement: the opposite of misogyny is both misandry AND feminism
Result: feminism and misandry are synonyms. Anti-feminism and misogyny are synonyms.
That result is incorrect. Just because you are not a feminist does not mean you are a misogynist (depending on the definition of feminism and which wave of it you are talking about). And just because you are a feminist does not mean you are a misandrist.
Unless you think feminism DOES mean misandry in which case… okay that would be consistent, even if I disagree.
But I don’t generally equate most waves of feminism with misandry except arguably 4th wave feminism because of the reliance on an argument of rape culture and men possessing inherent “toxic masculinity.” So I dont agree with the idea of those two words being necessarily opposite.
An antifeminist might also be a misogynist, or they might just disagree with the arguments being made by the current wave of feminism, in which case they may not be a misogynist.
Pander:
Your logic breaks down at the point where you assume that all antonyms of a word are synonyms of each other.
When presented with evidence that contradicts your assumptions, it would perhaps be wise to question your assumptions, rather than discard the evidence out of hand.
Never heard anyone use the word philogyny before:)
Technically, you still haven’t. If you use a screenreader, that would be a grey area. :P
I’m perfectly fine with talking about the meaning of words, because one of the best parts of natural languages is that they are imperfect vehicles for communication. Words have multiple meanings, multiple opposites, and only an imperfect relationship with concepts. Hilarity often ensues.
Technically, the opposite of misogyny is misandry. While you’d be shocked to find a misogynist who was a feminist, being a feminist doesn’t require being a misandrist, though history suggests they do commonly go together.
Historically not really. You might be thinking of third, or more likely fourth, wave feminism as feminism historically but it really isnt. Third wave feminism was mainly concerned with reproductive rights, and fourth wave is where youget terms like accusing men of rape culture and stuff like that, which tends to start becoming misandrist. Fourth wave feminism basically started in 2012 while third wave is mid/late 1990s.
I wouldnt really call 2012 to now to be “historically.” If anything fourth wave feminism has damaged the feminism “brand” so to speak.
For many people, the world began with their birth, and will end with their death. Anything that precedes them has always been that way, and always should be that way.
This is unfortunately true, my friend.
“When you’re accustomed to privilege, equality feels like oppression.”
Oh. Btw I have met a few ‘male feminists’ who were definitely misogynists. If you dispute them on anything they would start using the mosy sexist, hate-filled language you could ever imaging, including rape threats. Very creepy when that happens.
Btw brett I do agree with your basic premise. I’m just being annoyingly exact in my language.:)
Channeling the Spectre of Limbaugh.
*makes sign against evil*
those two activities cancel each other out.
I believe that was the point.
Can you show me on this doll where feminism emasculated you?
Oh my god, is dabbler giving her an item to deny her goldness? Guys, this is silencing gold voices everywhere, and gold lives matter!
Remember that scene just after the staged bank heist, when Maxi took her hat off and set Sydney on fire from the reflected light?
Or the reason why she wears a full scuba-suit when swimming?
And don’t care if this is bait, shit like that is believed by too many idiots
It’s not even bait…more like chum.
Get some fucking standards, @Yesthisisbait.
think on this:
‘I’m normal its the rest of you who are strange’
Fuck that noise, you’re the ‘normal’ one, not me
Color magic is one of those cantrips everyone wants, but no one can spare the spell slots to learn.
Until you run into a player that can pull off an illusion mage, much like Dabbler
I expect Maxima to be unable to hold back hope when she puts it on and realizes she can look “normal”. Then she will say “excuse me” as tears well up and leaves quickly.
Um… Ahhh, never mind.
That’s an interesting hand pose for Maxima.
@DaveB
I’m not sure what’s happening but the Who’s who fails to appear if I go to the site through a link.
Yeah, it normally only works once you go to the comments
That’s…an incredibly thoughtful gift from the team. I predict either Maxima getting very quiet, since she’s not terribly emotionally demonstrative (except anger), or sudden glomping of the team and some ow-ow-ows as she forgets to control her strength as rigidly in the emotional moment.
I imagine peach skin and blonde hair would probably trigger some strong emotions.
And it couldn’t be a wristband… why?
Honestly, I’m with Maxima on this one
Less likely to get caught on something, or targeted by pickpockets?
Just to point something out: more men wear ties than women wear chokers
Heck, more women wear ties than chokers
+1 internet for you
I would hate to have to wear a tie for work.
Or a choker, for that matter. :)
Definitely no choker with the bunny ears, very unprofessional look in your field.
I wore a tie for several years even though I had little physical interaction with clients, because the company owner was traditional and insisted it helped performance and morale. The week after he retired from active involvement, the new president dropped the tie thing; morale and camaraderie went way up, and performance stayed up long-term because people were enjoying interacting with each other more.
I totally get both sides of why there’s a huge debate over the workforce returning to the office, but I for one am glad to be in a field where I can spend most or all of my workday at home instead of commuting just to sit at a different desk.
It’s more about control than anything else. Can’t have the proletariat figuring out that they are more important, and more powerful, than The Boss.
Bug’s Life is a very different movie for adults than it is for kids. 0_o
*smiles enigmatically*
that’s not even half of it. the main reason is most owners/professional managers do not understand what their employees do. (golf is more important) they think by watching them and collecting metrics that are ‘objective’ like how much their mouse moves and what applications are open or busy they can evaluate them without understanding what they do.
remember kids- Leadership is primarily derived from who you know.
Now I’m having time study related PTSD. I haven’t done one since the 1990’s but I still cringe at the thought.
I’m sure there is therapy for us.. if we could just afford it.
Some of those allegations are complete bullshit
Ron “The Hedgehog” Jeremy is literally paid to fuck as many young women as he wants, why would he rape any?
Because rape is more about power and control than it is about sexual gratification?
He never denied sleeping with them
Lies are also about power and control
I think somewhere along the way Ron lost track of the distinction between the movie set and real life. He started believing in his own hype and acted accordingly. I doubt that Ron has been paid to fuck anybody in a long time. His prime porno years were over 30 years ago. He hasn’t yet been convicted but many of the behaviors described are consistent with a guy who is still trying to be the guy who gets paid to fuck as many women as he wants long after the moment has passed. The fact is that it can be very difficult to prove forcible rape in the absence of physical evidence or witnesses and in many of the cases quite a bit of time has passed. That said, a number of the allegations made against him are supposed to have happened at events where it is likely to be able to find witnesses who were present. Are some of the allegations false? It’s possible, even likely, since it is easy to jump onto the “me too” band box with a difficult to confirm allegation. Sadly this diminishes the credibility of genuine complaints. Even allowing that some of the allegations are false, the LA county DA’s office has found enough evidence to file charges against him. I don’t like the tendency to try people in the court of public opinion and I think it is a criminally irresponsible action by the various media outlets. It interferes in the genuine legal process of the courts. A final thought about Ron’s supposed motivations is that people tend to oversimplify rape in an effort to comprehend it. Each rapist has their own individual motivations. We tend to lump them into categories in an effort to understand their behavior but when you are looking at individuals you run the risk of missing the forest for the trees.
Wow, that may be the most rationally and well thought out comment I’ve seen in ages.
Don’t post it on twitter, they’ll come at you with torches and pitchforks. XD
Four dye jobs? So which one of them is going natural?
Read the under-blurb
I miss Dave’s early art style. :(
Nothing is stopping you from going back and looking at them at any time you want
Nothing indeed. -_-
…
Okay, so, here me out here. Future Vote Incentive: the main ARCSWAT team (including the men) in their “original, Arianna-approved” costumes
I’d shill for that.
+1, bonus points for playing up the personalities of those who would be like/hate it. Maybe it could be at an internal Halloween party or a comic convention
Also yes please this.
I can’t wait to see the get ups she had planned for Math & Achilles.
…I swear, if she wasn’t planning to do Math up as Sun Wu Kong, I will be crushingly disappointed.
I have to question how fast that thing can work…. I’d be instantly tempted into turning into the human rave machine. XD
Max is going to turn her skin tone back to the color she had before metalizing. And I bet you she will cry. I know I would. After being super so long, to have a bit of normalcy return to your life, even if OT is an illusion, can be a very emotional moment.
The prison opens… for just a little while. then the chain yanks again, and the collar chokes. ‘not for you’ they whisper. ‘not for you’
I… I think I got chills, maybe because I was listening to some things on prison reform earlier today. That’s dark. Can’t find a quote anywhere; can you point me to it or is that original?
As far as I know its mine. I drew it from my experience. it feels odd that someone else hasn’t said that.
… Anyone else see a Gender-bend Ganondorf (Zelda series) appear on panel 6 instead of Anvil?
I she is not, but that expression suprised me!
There is another character who looks like that
Big shock considering how different she looks to panel three
Any takers to the bet that Dabbler is using the choker to get a “reading” of Max’s body, specially her “whole” body
Dabbler does not strike me as Quark. she wants the real deal. not to sell copies to every Tom, Dick, and Henry.
I’d take that bet. We know from the post-Fel-ship scenes that Dabbler has already scanned Max with “all of her doodads.” Not to mention that she could always do so sneakily via magic/tech if she wanted to.
Plus, Dabbler is all about having fun, not doing the boring thing. Using her massive magical and technological advantages over humanity to sneakily scan Max would be far less fun for her than seducing a challenging target.
This reminds me of a super hero I invented. He had the power to change thing’s colors. At first he lamented that his “super power” was crap. Some time later, after much whining he saw a hate crime on TV so he drove over there and changed the race of everyone involved.
But team him up with someone else who has colour-based powers/hangups…
Yeah, he could alternately either be Green lantern’s dream, or worst nightmare. Grrr… guess what? You’re yellow!
Seeing that example of the costume that Max rejected(and I don’t blame her)got me thinking of how they would look wearing outfits similar to the original thirteen members of the G.I.Joe team(circa 1982)…!?
I must admit I find her narrow minded obsession with Collars to be annoying.
I wear the collar that my Domme and wife wears the key to.
The lock is engraved with the Triune cross and the Star of David.
The key uses a identical Cross and Star in its Bow.
(And yes I also have an identical key on a bracket and watch compartment, after all there are times its a bit inapropreat )
To be fair if she went on a feminist rant about Collars, I would tell her in no uncertain terms that frankly I would consider her unfit as a commanding officer, and why.
And before you ask it. I have. To someone who Was briefly a Baby Lawyer in our firm. Some would argue she left voluntarily. Granted before she left she made the mistake of starting her “ lecture “ by starting her somewhat derogatory opinion of a client….who was neither a Sub nor married to a male….She was however legally married. Literaly a case of, open mouth insert foot up to the hip.
So the effect on Max will be changes of different colour metals? Shiny Chrome, Titanium grey, Cobalt blue, red Copper, camo grey mottled galvanized Steel, brown/green Bronze?
I gotta side with Arianna just a little bit. If your goal is to push product out to kids and collectors, all those cammo outfits are not really helping.
Especially the collectors – hHow much of ArcSwat’s budget could be covered by collectors snapping up annual costume changes?
Granted, this may have some negative impact on tactical efficiency (e.g. capes) and moral (does anyone really enjoy fighting in tights?) but priorities are priorities ;-)
Calling it now – Maxima ends up hue-shifted to green at some point, and then the General shows up. Awkwardness ensues.
Oh is there a fan who has the experience to write the memo that would happen after? it would be boring, mundane, and many would die laughing after reading it.
Anyone else commented on how the middle Huerem looks like a de-winged Alari?
Has it been confirmed in the comic that Harem has more then five bodies now? It’s been alluded to when she said “There were too many of me” page 651, 2018 archive. Ever since then I don’t think it was ever brought up again or have Sydney reacted to it. It’s been almost three years.
There were too many of her because at same time, one of her from past was active along with full set from future.
Yeah, but has that ever been addressed? She said there were too many of her, but it was never elaborated on. Dabbler just said “This complicates things, no wait, it actually makes things simpler”
And then it was never brought up. That is what’s confusing me. If it has, please tell me what page it was. Like, how did you know that?
Not in-comic, that I remember, but it’s discussed in the author blurb for page #727.
Dying your eyebrows is a power move.
Here’s an idea of a vote incentive, Sydney’ skill tree labeled. But for the page voters, only label the ones we have seen in action and (the ones that the cast have theorized) as well as the orb names. For the patron page, the chart is completely labeled with the correct information.
My theory about the interlocking joints pertain to special abilities when using the two orbs at the same time.
That should be a patreon exclusive, really. Votes are nice, clothes on back, food in belly and roof over head is better.
Good point.
OK, So Military Officer school. That is far more complicated than “night or online”.
She was probably paid to go to college. NOT just “free college” no, it was part of her job in the Military.
For example, West Point Cadets are all paid full-time. Other, non-military specific schools, completely free tuition and a housing allowance, probably a paycheck also but I do not know her specifics. The Air Force (and all military services) takes higher education VERY seriously.
You can get a degree through online programs, but Max seems to me a bit young to have done that (usually, that is done by older enlisted soldiers to get promoted to officer).
In fact, I have to “suspend my disbelief” slightly that Max has not left the unit for a few months to go to “War College” to become a Full Colonel. Because not attending those schools on-time (without a wavier) ends your career.
Max’s waiver is that she is a Tactical Nuke grade asset.
I wouldn’t want to be the one in the Pentagon or White House telling Max she’s fired…
After all that Fel Carrier had shields and could withstand a volley of Cora’s ships Anti-Matter Cannons, but Max totalled it in 1 shot.
Slightly chargrilled Marine on phone to the White House, asked why are you not using the Pentagon secure line?
I’m sorry but Maxima took her discharge notice badly, all that is left of the Pentagon is a 15 mile deep crater!
Oh and by the way, she was last seen flying your way…
Not gonna sack her “War College” or not, the very same way Sydney became a soldier…
Maxi ain’t a full colonel though
This is a very heartfelt gift, when you think about it. Max hasn’t been able to “look normal” since her teenage years. I’m guessing she’s in her mid 30s, so that means she’s been “miss gold lady” for close to half of her life, and absolutely all of her adult life.
Being able to blend in when desired would be life changing for Max. This is an insanely kind gift for her.
