Grrl Power #806 – Spider vs. cat
I joke in the stinger, but Pixel probably really should have identified herself as a federal agent. That could complicate things to some degree, depending on how The Veil handles Pixel’s appearance here. It’s one thing to make her look human to another human when she’s just standing there having a smoke. It’s another when she’s attacking a self proclaimed demon hunter with her laser claws.
Of course, Archon could easily claim that turning into a giant pink jaguar hybrid is Pixel’s superpower instead of admitting to anything supernatural, but they’ve been careful not to directly deny stuff they plan on talking about later.
Still, Pixel saw Sydney zonked on the ground, and got kind of mad. She’s not a fan of Sydney’s aloofness in the field, but she still likes her personally. Plus, she is kind of Maxima’s favorite fixer upper project as well as being Archon’s PR golden child. At least when she’s not sticking her foot in her mouth in front of a camera.
BTW if you couldn’t tell, Aranea is stronger than she looks.
Oh, and Sydney’s blue word bubble, that’s just explaining what’s she’s writing in cursive with the lighthook off panel.
Double res version will be posted over at Patreon. Feel free to contribute as much as you like!
Debriefing :
Maxima : you all git wasted by a single prawler?
Sydney : To be fair we were already pretty wasted.
She had as many arms as we did!
Maxima fails her temptation check (GM rig!)
so you are saying she’s armed and dangerous?
Sidney swears softly.
“HOW DID MAX BEAT ME TO THAT ONE oh right I was paralyzed.”
“And she was pretty handy with weapons.”
Wanna buy my Wazer Wifle?
And THAT is why I always try to shot Biwwy in Little Lamplight
Hey guys, do you know where the clear high-res image of Sydney’s level up screen is? I’m failing to find it
I’m pretty sure there’s a copy on DaveB’s DeviantArt account. I’ll bet there’s a link to that somewhere on this site.

Why does the Who’s Who include Specs and exclude Elspeth?
Was wondering that as well, even asked on the first page
Whoops.
we have an explanation! and it does not involve an 8 page debate about physics.
progress!
I know really, four pages would be plenty.
That grenade looks very similar to an M84 stun grenade. That would give a good reason to put that mask back on if she actually can’t see through it with normal senses.
I also just noticed that Elsbeth used a grappling hook to get up there. In that position the grenade is liable to hurt a lot more than her eyes and ears.
At effectively zero distance like that she might still see a significant burn from the grenade even. It’s designed to minimize actual casualties, but you’re still not meant to basically put one up to your naked leg.
Demo Dick Marcinko, plankowner of Seal Team 6, once threw a stun grenade, which hit the door frame and bounced back, right into his groin…
He had just enough time to think “well, this is gonna hurt” before it went off…..
Elspeth’s power is the invulnerable Book of Things. I am assuming she will “throw the book at it” and shelter in the shadow of the book’s protection. If the Book doesn’t just Nom the grenade up without it going off.
Once Mr. Pin is not on Mr. Grenade, it is no longer a Happy Camper.
Without magic, that would be the case.
With magic Mr. Grenade may get a new pin by being forced into the book.
Because literary conventions.
Ah, I hadn’t noticed that until you pointed it out. I thought Elsbeth was just climbing over a short wall on top of the roof. Well, if she can’t use her book to deal with the grenade, her best bet is to hang off of the grapnel rope. Assuming she is athletic enough to do that. But climbing up a couple stories even with a knotted rope isn’t an easy task, so she may be very fit indeed.
She looks a LOT like a super.
She’s a finger-wriggler
She’s a mage of some sort with a magical book chained to her… which means there is no reason for her to look like a Victoria Secret model. The vampire babes might have been former models before they were turned so that’s fine, but with that exception the non-supers typically don’t look like models.
So she could easily be a minor super mostly went for magic. It’s even possible that book is her power.
There’s no reason for her to not look like a fucking Victoria’s Secret model
It’s not like everyone who isn’t a Super is an ugly, overweight slob, it’s just that every Super has the Supermodel look (except for Mister Flubbo)
So far, the only two people who don’t look like a supermodel, is Sydney and Ari’s assistant
If she didn’t look like that before, then I’m pretty sure that “beautifying potion” was probably looked up in that grimoire once she figured out how it works…
You can be a super and not be super strong. Heatwave and Jiggawatt have no “flex” rating on the Cast page. Harem is presumably no stringer than a normal, fit person if she has all five bodies manifested.
The Press loves Sydney because she is so adept at putting her foot in her mouth.
↑This↑
I expect it’s been mentioned already, but in panel five she winds up with the right hands, and in panel six she hits with the left hands.
I figure one of two things happened there…
1 she was feigning the hit and quick triple jabbed
or
2 her dodge momentum was still in force as she was spinning right when she countered. then given the distance between then lunged forward with a left strait punch, rather then the right hook she seems set up for.
I could be wrong about that, but anti spinnerett is a martial artist and would likely go for the quickest hit combo. These seem the simplest to pull off in the confusion of the fight at present.
Oh hey. Pane 7 has a familiar blue pattern…
Somehow I didn’t notice it the first, or second, or third time I read the page.
Blind moments, eh?
It’s not been mentioned before, because you are in error
Look closer at panel six, and you will see her curled fingers, indicating that these are her right fists
You can definitely see it with the top hand with the thumb and the bottom hand (with the ‘fist cleavage’ where the base of the thumb meets the rest of the palm)
Shouldn’t Halo be able to use her flight orb to reposition?
I mean even if her body doesn’t respond… She can levitate the orbs to constantly touch her hands and can levitate her body to move…
yes, or the com orb to be able to see from another perspective.
She is not frozen-paralyzed, she is unresponsive-paralyzed, which means, she is basically a limp rag rather than a stiff-board
And Holo-Halo imitates Real!Halo, which, again, means she would still be flat on the ground
Not so sure about that last bit.
Her brain is sending signals her body is ignoring.
There’s a non-zero chance that the mental commands can steer her hologram just fine.
Do you think it is her brain or her fingers that are controlling her imaginary fingers?
I think that the orb is analyzing Sydney while making the hologram so it can copy her clothes and any small object she might be holding to make the replica more exact.
Oh.
That makes sense.
So it *IS* her fingers (and the rest of her body) controlling the hologram.
It’s Super Television.
Didn’t say she couldn’t activate Holo-Halo, just that it would be in the exact same position as the RealDeal, just like every other time it was used
She quickly opens the book to G, and drops it over the device. It is now available to her under the entry on Grenade. Just be careful; when she pulls it out, it only has two seconds left on the timer.
Took me a while to realize that’s her wig on the ground and not a crab that’s met a chestburster.
It shoul e noted that neither Sydney nor Pixel is identified as Law Enforcement in any way. While ignorance of thelaw isn’t a defence in court, ignorance of relevent facts IS. This is why ArcSWAT and ArcLight field agents should have badges they can display if they aren’t in uniform. (Might be unwise for ArcDark, though.)
” should be” and “the law”. We need an Edit function, if only for those of us who can’t type!
Or at the very ^least^ ~ a preview function!
Considering Sydney didn’t say anything more threatening then “you may be under arrest”, just after enquiring into her wellbeing and just before asking about a kidnapping, stabbing her with a paralytic poison would probably get you in trouble whether she’s law enforcement or not. Responding to being drugged with force is probably okay for Sydney and the demonhunter verbally identified Halo as a member of Archon.
Whether or not anyone present is law enforcement, or joe civilian, drugging them with a fast acting paralytic without their consent fits as some kind of battery, and no matter how safe the drug, will likely be viewed as potentially lethal, as there was no checking for medical conditions or allergies beforehand, and her drug appears almost identical to highly lethal snake venom
In fairness, if Sydney were there as a civilian, she is probably trespassing and that detail may come up if this moves to a trial. It’s a fair bet our masked vigilante is also trespassing, and would have no way to judge whether Sydney were trespassing or a building mechanic on-call.
You mean, like what Harem did after the Restaurant Rubble-Razing? o_O
The police combating violent lawbreakers entails some form of potentially-lethal actions, no?
Also the thing they attached that gave them the sedatives had biometric feedback to try to limit the danger (never mind that you’d need an anesthesiologist to do that, but hey maybe Dabbler threw an AI together that could do that)
Umm, no, maybe the ‘cuffs’ had the bio-feedback, butt Harem was *VORP*ing around injecting people all over the place
As far as Aranea is concerned, Archon is the badguys, for siding with demons
Yeah, because she’s a law enforcement officer and they were trying to kill people.
The point was, if you had bothered to read, was that the sedative was in the injector-gun, not the cuffs
The other point was, Harem was injecting random supers of different sizes and mass with the exact same dosage
She didn’t have the time to adjust it during a battle and didn’t have the option of inaction.
Arena didn’t have to assault Sydney.
But does ^she^ ^know^ she didn’t have to!?</b*
A valid point, but there are some differences in circumstances. Harem was acting as part of a team, including several members who were observing rather than engaging directly. This gives the option of at least long-range visual monitoring for adverse reactions, with Harem able to give a rapid in-situ check if alerted to do so. Granted, we don’t know that someone on the Arc-Light bench is familiar with common complications and tasked accordingly, but even a non-expert is still an extra pair of eyes.
In contrast, Aranea is a sole operator. She may have far more experience in what an adverse reaction would look like, but she is currently directly occupied with the ongoing fight – and depending on its outcome, may be unable to advise even after it concludes.
Unless Aranea owns the building, whether or not Sydney might have been trespassing would be entirely moot. Since Sydney was specifically looking for a missing, apparently kidnapped person on the request of the club owner, Sydney is not in fact trespassing, so it won’t come up.
If you look at how Sydney approached Captain Butt-Rope you’ll see that Sydney did not assault her in any way. In fact she actually first inquired if Butt-Rope was okay. For this Butt-Rope criminally assaulted Sydney by injecting her with a currently unknown substance that would have rendered a normal human defenceless. Sydney’s subsequent flailing with the tentacle orb is fully justifiable self defence.
A friend of mine works in Law Enforcement and she often complains about how there are some people who will always find fault in what the Police did, and always excuse the actions of the perp, no matter what the actual situation was. Seeing so many people in this discussion board trying desperately hard to find criminality in what Sydney and her friends are doing I can see that my friend has a point.
Aranea injected Sydney after finding out she is in league with demons
Nope. After finding out Sydney was looking for a girl with lavender hair.
Aranea has to know the veil exists, so she has no good reason to assume that any given person asking after the kid would know the kid was a demon.
So, she jumped to a completely gratuitous, but coincidentally correct, conclusion, as per the standard “Let’s You and Him Fight” trope https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/LetsYouAndHimFight
Sydney was attacked before she could identify as an officer, but she did so after being paralyzed. And she was recognized by the offender, so ignorance can no longer be claimed after that point. Yet the 6 armed freak continued the fight and did not immediately stand down. With kidnapping, assault and battery, resisting federal agents, all while being masked and armed (grenades, injectors)… that will lead to a very long time in prison.
She was not masked when Sydney attempted to swat her with the MolestOrb, she didn’t put her mask on until panel eight
She was acting in defense of her self, or did you miss the part where the Brat Panther attempted to rip her head off above (panel three)
You have the events in the wrong order. Sydney was attacked first, reacted to that, was recognized as an officer, called for help, the other officers reacted and assault the criminal, who masked herself and continued the fight.
And the vigilante got into that fight while committing a crime, which would make a “defense” against law enforcement officers an absurdity anyway.
Aranea apprehended a low-level demon, extracted demon to a safe(r) location for interrogation, said demon resisted, knocking Aranea through a wall, landed at the feet of a stranger, said stranger proceeded to announce her alliance with said demon-suspect, neutralized Sydney, recognized Sydney, realised that Archon is in league with Darkness (undisputed fact), proceeded to dodge an attack from Sydney who then proceeded to rally who cohorts who then attempted to remove Aranea’s head from her shoulders
(TL:DR) From what we know, if anyone’s in league with “the Darkness” it’s more likely Aranea not Archon.
“realised that Archon is in league with Darkness (undisputed fact)”
‘OBJECTION!’ (insert Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney meme pic here)
Categorising the Twilight council and their constituents as “the Darkness” contradicts known evidence. They may be considered as an analogue of Wakanda, a hidden nation but with an active diplomatic relationship with governments (and both their existence and official diplomatic channels are classified on a need to know basis, which both sides find mutually beneficial).
It is also worth noting that the Twilight council also includes extraterrestrials, so this would imply that only those born and raised on earth with no contacts with the Twilight council or its constituents could be claimed as “not tainted by or in league with the Darkness”, history has (repeatedly) shown the folly in such classification systems.
Finally “Aranea *DID NOT* apprehend a low-level demon”, she kidnapped Tamatha, a young female who has not been shown to be guilty of anything but being born as she was. Aranea has never been shown to have the legal right or authority to kidnap, string up, and interrogate a minor, and until such authority can be determined her actions must constitute a crime.
In conclusion, while there is no conclusive evidence that anyone here is “in league with the Darkness”, known facts suggest that Aranea fits that label better than Archon.
Aranea apprehended a low-level demon:
Something that she has yet to demonstrate any legal authority to do.
extracted demon to a safe(r) location for interrogation:
Inflicting pain, no matter how minor, and threatening with a knife to the throat, constitutes torture.
said demon resisted, knocking Aranea through a wall, landed at the feet of a stranger:
Tamatha engaged in legally justified self defence against her kidnapper and torturer.
said stranger proceeded to announce her alliance with said demon-suspect:
Sydney first inquired if Aranea was unharmed. She then mentioned that Aranea may be under arrest, which would have clued most people into the fact that the person talking to them was a law enforcement official. Sydney then simply asked about the whereabouts of the child that Aranea kidnapped. Sydney then went into anon-sequitur about the names of various shades of purple.
neutralized Sydney:
While Sydney did not engage in any form of aggressive action against her, Aranea decided to criminally assault Sydney by injecting her with a yet to be identified drug.
recognized Sydney:
Finally realized that the person she just illegally assaulted is a federal law enforcement official (or at least a recruit).
realised that Archon is in league with Darkness (undisputed fact):
Came to a wildly inaccurate conclusion to self justify her prior and future acts of criminality.
proceeded to dodge an attack from Sydney:
Managed to avoid Sydney’s fully legal and justified self defense activities.
who then proceeded to rally who cohorts:
Sydney despite being incapacitated was able to alert fellow law enforcement officials to her plight.
who then attempted to remove Aranea’s head from her shoulders:
While finding their fellow law enforcement comrade inert and possibly seriously injured, the assalent attempted to attack the newly arrived law enforcement officials from behind. Pixel’s superior hearing allowed her to detect the attack, and she made an attempt to render the assailant harmless before said assalent could inflict any more injury to law enforcement or innocent bystanders. Aranea managed to evade Pixel, then introduced an as yet unidentified device that appears to be a grenade of some sort.
Seriously! Why the hell are so many people on this board attempting to find fault and criminality in the actions of the Archon personnel?
First off, you know who Aranea is and who she works for? o_O
All we saw, was Aranea landing, Pixelicious went straight to murder-rage without identifying her target
Ex-fucking-scuse me? Pixelicious didn’t just ‘attempt to render the (alleged) assailant harmless’. With her laser claws, she attempted to kill this unknown person
Seriously! Why the hell are so many people on this board using information that the characters should not know?
Again, it is a fact that Archon is working with creatures that have, in the past hunted, fed and preyed on the hyu-mon population (and we have no way of knowing when that actually ended), some of whom want to return to those days (or have you conveniently forgotten that two of the senior vamps were actually working with Sci-fright?)
If you’re sticking to what is on screen, then Aranea jumped to a completely unjustified conclusion.
Sydney did not ask “have you seen, or did you kidnap, a demon with lavender hair?” She solely referred to a girl, and there is no legitimate support for Aranea’s inference that Sydney knew the girl was a demon and was “in league with her”.
There is certainly no support in the story presented for Sydney having anything to do with “darkness”. Evil allies of darkness leading with “Um, are you okay” is not a thing.
Big problem (sorry!) is, werePixel IS A CAT. werePixel CANNOT “punch”, her shoulders are not designed to do that.
werePixel’s only options are (1) run; (2) drop-and-sweep; (3) explode upwards; (4) spin-and-slash.
Straight to murder-rage? Q: Which of ARC-Swat is silly enough to drop silently behind another member with no warning? Especially as Corporal Pixel has explicitly reiterated the need to USE comms…
However, yes, Coporal Pixel did indeed (20-20 hindsight) make a bad choice. Not knowing the nature of the target behind you leaves only 1, 2, and 3 as valid tactics. 2 and 3 both put you in a position of attack-with-options.
It may be that ARCON has not had sufficient time to organise battle-training for the new squad, but that’s what SEALs, Marines, and other Commando units are for: to fill gaps while waiting for recruits to come up to speed.
Sydney down on the ground, possibly seriously injured. Unknown assailant sneaking up behind Pixel. Most importantly, this is taking place in Texas where a situation like this is all the justification an officer needs to resort to lethal force.
Sydney: known to be incapable of useful action, can be fixed later;
Unknown: probably hostile, need to protect Sydney and Specs, priority.
Okay, How do I swing this? I’m allowed to get rough here.
Pixelicious is not a recruit, or she wouldn’t be a Corporal and Maxi wouldn’t have put her in charge of the team investigating the Wars Warehouse
Sometimes the brain doesn’t get me a list of the words/synonyms I need. The term “recruits” was used for conciseness, and also because at some stage Pixel was indeed “recruited” into ARC-Swat.
Hell, if you want to go that route, Maxi was a fucking recruit at one stage, so was General Faulke
Do not ever minimize actual torture by claiming minor things are torture.
#6 is probably quoting from my post on page 1 of #805, “… deliberately causing discomfort to another, antithetical to that person’s welfare.”
Which leads to an inconvenient question: At what stage are “minor things” not torture?
The reality is that kids at school often take psychological beatings when staff ignore on-going “teasing” of some non-standard features on the victim. Is that to be regarded as “not torture”?
As I don’t have access to a deep underground interrogation facility, disorientation and good/bad cop is unlikely to produce acceptable results for me in the short term. So one resorts to “encouragement”. Show what could done if we don’t get results very soon.
And, natch, water-boarding is really only an annoyance to keep them on the back foot. Isn’t it? So why do victims try desperately to inhale the water?
Except, Sydney never told the vigilante who or what she was looking for before being injected. Muggles can’t even see Tamatha’s demon features because of the veil. The fact that she was found as a result of property damage could just as easily been why a cop would consider arresting Captain Rope-butt. Thus the assertion that ARCHON is in league with “the Darkness” would hardly be a logical statement nor legal defence in court.
The fact that she was found as a direct result of her crashing through the building would be more than enough probable cause for an off duty cop to act.
She fucking described Tammy!!
As a girl. And?
Aranea MUST know about the effects of the veil, and that almost no one can see through it. As such, Aranea has no justification for assuming that Sydney could see through the veil.
So she has no justification for the conclusion that Sydney knew what Tammy is, let along being knowingly allied with Tammy in furtherance of evil. It’s gratuitous.
The fact that she’s in a sense “right” is only known to the reader.
If Sydney was just a normal cop, explain why she is not in uniform and why she was on that roof within less than 60 minutes of Tammy going missing?
Undercover cops don’t break their cover over a simple missing minor case, and plain-clothes cops don’t canvas the area (ever), and they certainly the fuck don’t climb roofs unless they have a reason
HAS NO ONE EVER SEEN AN OFF-DUTY COP RESPOND TO AN ON-SITE MISSING PERSONS CALL?
I mean, seriously? They were in a bar! Don’t nerds drink?
“Hi, you ok? You seen a missing girl? You may be under arrest…” All of this perfectly fits a younger off-duty cop’s babbling, and Sidney certainly looks young enough to be opening with that rather than “Halt! Police!”
Okay Guesticals, you’ve convinced me. Specifically you’ve convinced me that you are a shit for brains troll who enjoys flinging his ignorance all about the place like some pox ridden orangutan.
“Demon” or “Darkness” aren’t legal categories. Legally, she kidnapped a minor with intent to torture her, assaulted a rescuer who turned out to be a cop, then went to attack more police officers who defended themselves.
Only way “but demons!” matters is if she goes for an insanity defense, and she will be locked up either way and Pixel won’t be reprimanded for using lethal force in an officer-down self defense situation.
But the Federal Agents are (gasp!) Aiding The Forces of Darkness! They Have Been Infiltrated At The Highest Levels!!!1!!one!! I must report to the head of the order, soonest! …. see where this is going, from her point of view?
Arc-Swat has a REALLY big and really permanent problem, because religious fanaticism can’t be reasoned with, can’t be argued with, and will never die…
Where has it been shown that Captain Butt-Rope’s vigilante activities have anything to do with religion? Plenty of atheist fanatics in the world.
it is my experience that people who don’t believe in higher powers don’t tend to be concerned with “being in league with the darkness” or would automatically assume extra-dimensional beings are evil by default.
Yeah, you can’t change people who commit hate crimes like kidnapping a minor and torturing her because she’s different. Those people are nuts and will always think they’re right. And there will always be such people. And there will always be people who glorify those specialists as vigilante.
Speciecists dammit. The auto-uncorrection got me there.
“Vigilante” is neither a positive nor a negative term. It merely indicates someone who does things that are illegal for personal reasons, often having to do with the individual’s personal view of justice or revenge.
Disagree. “You may be under arrest” is equivalent to identifying as an officer. She claimed nonspecific legal authority to make an arrest, so from that moment, it’s not in any way reasonable to claim Aranea was not under notice that she was dealing with some kind of law enforcement.
Noce how someone try to put criminal charce on Sidney and Pixel but try the hardest to bullshit the multiarmed criminal out of accusation of assault and kidnapping of a minor, and fedreal agents searching that minor.
“but she’s a demon” is not a better defence that “but she’s a nigga” or “but she’s a lesbian whore”
just going to point out that multiple simultaneous punches is a bad attack. Damage is (simplified) equal to velocity x mass / contact area. You can easily push a nail into wood but can’t do the same with a whole finger because the contact area is way bigger (also flesh is squishy but … simplification).
Hitting with three fists simply means the same punch is now affecting three times the size it would as a single punch hence dealing three times less damage.
So the 6arms girl should either hit with a single arm (and keep the other two for either defense or grappling) or give succesive hits (preferably from alternating sides so she can put the weight of her whole body behind each punch).
I think she did do three successive punches, that’s why we see “chud chud chud” instead of CHUD!. the hits are close together but not simultaneous.
Yeah, punched with a slight pause between the fists so that they hit consecutively
(oh wait, this is just repeating what you just said, just differently, which is bad, so ignore this post)
The mass, muscle, and motion of each arm also contribute to the overall force delivered, so it’s not a straight division of the force, nor a full 3x of a single punch, but somewhere in between. 2x is probably a reasonable guess, but even 1.5x is enough reason to take a full shot with all 3 arms while Pixel’s guards is wide open. As the results clearly show.
Also, inflicting damage on an opponent isn’t all about the force at any individual point either. Inflicting more injuries via multiple attacks rather than a more severe injury with a stronger single attack may be appropriate.
Probable next page: Krona goes “hi there!” by remotely turning the grenade into a dud.
Did kipo and age of the wonder beasts take pixel from grrl power?
I presume those are nerve strikes. It’s really HARD to take down a were without using silver weapons.
It’s impossible to harm Achilles but that doesn’t mean you can’t displace him. Similar deal here.
I’m not a veterinarian, so my ignorance of felid nerve points is totally magnificent. However, I do know they don’t have the same shoulder structure we primates enjoy: we need explicit articulation, they need shock damping. This means they cannot do things we take for granted. Their hips are also different, and do not bother using a neck-lock: the spinal flexibility will wiggle her out of that before you can blink.
Ummm. Yes. Pixel is probably fully primate in her unwered form, but try putting a primate skeleton into a felid body…
Aranea’s attack was well thought. Three near-simultaneous punches to the kidney area allows what I imagine is a full-body throw out of the immediate area of escape, then deploy a flash-bang to confuse everyone else, and beat a hasty retreat.
Not sure that’s a flash bang. If I were a warrior against the Darkness, my grenades would unleash shrapnel of silver/cold iron/holy water/garlic. I mean, Sciona’s evil creepy mannequins led the attack on the Twilight council by launching grenades armed with silver buckshot.
It appears to be an M84 stun grenade. Even if it’s not, the holes in the side mean it’s a stun or gas grenade, because it’s supposed to allow something to escape the grenade (light and sound, or gas), not disintegrate the way a frag grenade would.
And in any case, Aranea is trying to mount a covert op, so setting a lethal exit cover is probably contra-indicated, as being counter-productive…
Don’t forget, Sciona’s attack on the Twilight Council was a terrorist op, and designed to be frightful.
Did you notice that Halo’s thought seemed to have been displayed on her whip?
Yes. That was explained on Page 1 :)
oh crap, ha, ha, crap, I thought her whip had gotten a new ability, text bubbles, LOL
I noticed that, Pixel left herself, wide open, and deserved how she was hit.
Hardly “deserved”, but… It will hopefully teach her a solid lesson. Unfortunately, these people don’t get to go with the “normal” army/marines and learn ambush tactics/strategy properly. Having said that, I have no doubt that good ninja training would produce the same result while possibly being more acceptable to “special ops” cadres.
In any case, nothing beats on-the-ground field exercises. At night. In the rain. And the forest. Or the desert.
At boarding school on a planet far, far away, our Cadet Unit seniors had a night exercise with the Army. One of our prefects was on the Attack Squad. They needed to delete the Defender’s Squad encampment, which was guarded with a Bren gun, muzzle-adapted for blank rounds. A frontal attack was chosen, and our prefect gallantly charged to the front… And collected a stomach-full of wood-chips from the muzzle-adaptor which had meekly surrendered to the pounding from the blank rounds.
Some of us lesser mortals felt that maybe a more conservative stealth attack would have had a better outcome.
Our prefect did live, and proudly showed his scars to those interested.
Well, at least you were all taking training seriously.
I recall back in the early eighties our battalion sent one company and part of Comm platoon to agress a reserve unit at a remote Camp LeJeune LZ. These guys only have one two to three week operation per year during which their combat readiness is evaluated.
In those pre-cellphone days Lejeune had emergency call boxes on the medians every few miles. The men in the reserve unit called out for pizza to be delivered out to the field from a delivery place in Jacksonville.
They get pizzas, and all start to eat…
And thats when they recieved the CS mortar rounds.
Take training seriously.
Would have been smarter to have them delivered to the other team…
It was a combat simulation for their annual readiness evaluation.
The agressors never broke cover, and the reserve unit never knew where they were.
The smart thing would have been to try to send scouting patrols out that night trying to locate the agressors instead of throwing a party.
“And that’s when…” Shouldn’t ROFL, but… HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!
Sorry…………………………….smrrk.
Is that Adeptus mechanicus robe?
Oh sure its a one sided battle cause of that psycotic slayer spinnerette ripoff, can the fight end quickly where spider freak gets splattered on a wall like a bug hitting the windshield?
Okay. I’m done with this page. Is it Monday yet?
People need to take a step the fuck back and view things from what the character knows
We know that Aranea is the bad guy, they don’t know that yet, nor what her ultimate motivation is nor if she is acting alone
We know that it was Aranea who dropped down behind Pixelicious and Specs, Pixelicious has no way of knowing who it was before going straight to ‘murder-slash’
If Pixelicious had done what she accused Sydney of not doing, Beth might have survived this encounter intact
Almost forgot one:
We know that Tammy is just a fourteen year old (hyu-mon or succubae age yet to be determined) succubaby just learning how to succubae, Aranea only knows her to be a demon
And we also know, that not all demons are nice, or did you think Sci-not and SmugD were the only ones wanting to subjugate huge-manatee’s?
Whereas what Aranea knows is that most people are unaware that this child is a succubus, so going straight to “they’re in league with the darkness” when searching for a missing minor is ludicrous.
Maybe it is a stretch to jump to that (completely and accurate) conclusion, butt remember one very important fact: ARCHON ARE NOT FUCKING COPS!! They don’t do missing person cases, unless the missing person is a super (or a supernatural)
And it’s been less than ten fucking minutes (well, less than sixty minutes anyway), cops won’t do shit for at least 24-48 hours unless they have conclusive evidence to indicate foul-play
They may be cops but they’re also HEROES, and heroes are known for things like dropping everything to look for missing children.
ARCHON are fucking cops as much as ATF and DEA are cops. They are cops with a defined set of responsibilities that doesn’t involve missing persons usually but they are law enforcement officers. Also I grantee you if you walk up to a cop, any cop and tell them that you are missing a minor and they suspect foul play(the phone) they will help you looking.
Umm, no, they will tell you to go to the station and report it
You’re really stretching it here, bud.
Konerak Sinthasomphone is a typical example of how the police are helpful much of the time.
Which is why we know what Pixel did is perfectly acceptable.
Sees Sydney KOd. For this to happen, it had to be a sneak attack.
Someone jumps up behind her, too close to her right at that moment.
Nothing else is necessary to know.
I’m wondering which commenter subscribed the fifty bucks to create Aranea. That might inform us as to why so much defense of her.
Who cares? The attacks on her all pretend that the history of the Supernatural element in the Grrverse wasn’t the standard horror movie violence and mythological mass slaughters that Ingy recounted way back when he was introduced.
Without millennia of the heavy jackboots of the Twilight Council on their necks many of the council factions would dive into the humans like a hungry Watermoccaisin in a pond full of frogs.
With just as much diplomacy.
Aranea sees them as what they would be without the council.
So, while her information is dated, the alleged bad intent relies (not in part, but completely) on rejecting what DaveB has told us about supernaturals.
They are individually tamed, but not domesticated.
Also, the arguement grew tedious and boring early on. The discussion of weapons, and tactics and what Sydney might do is more interesting than all that evil spider stuff.
Let’s not bicker and argue about who killed who.
This is supposed to be a nerd gets powers comic.
I agree! We should also judge all human males in the way we’d judge a caveman clubbing a woman on the head and taking her home because that’s a thing that happened in the past.
No, that’s a thing that would still be happening if there wasn’t some secret organisation made up of the very same cavemen forcibly stopping other cavemen from being, well, cavemen, simply because the Council of Civilised Kavemen like modern comforts (and secretly clubbing women over the head without anyone noticing)
You could litteraly say the same about humans and modern law enforcement.
And many do, on a daily fucking basis, usually when the criminal scum get caught (and they pull out the race card)
Yeah, and the thing is that they’re wrong.
Supernatural creatures are no more intrinsically evil because of the actions of a few of their race than humans are. They developed laws and enforcers, like humans, because order needs to be maintained in some way beyond words on paper.
“Without millennia of the heavy jackboots of the Twilight Council on their necks many of the council factions would dive into the humans like a hungry Watermoccaisin in a pond full of frogs.
With just as much diplomacy.”
That makes no sense nor does it justify Butt-ropes actions here.
So we also assume all humans are also evil and bloodthirsty monsters?
Because I’m quite sure humans have slaughtered and inflicted way more suffering upon others in the past than any supernatural creature has.
You didn’t even read the first paragraph, did you
I did, and it’s wrong. The history of supernatural creatures in Grrl-verse is far from the standard horror movie affair.
Am I the only one this page won’t show up for?
I’m using an Andriod phone if that matters?
