Grrl Power #574 – Trail off
Oh, Sydney. I do enjoy a good pun. I also like bad puns, so if future pun quality varies wildly it’s because my standards are all over the place. :)
I realize with all the blood, it might be a little hard to tell, but in the second to last panel, that’s Wyrmil’s upper torso laying there, face down. At least part of it. Minus an arm, and… you know, spine and stuff. Being an anthropomorphic worm thing, I’m not sure he actually has a spine though. An erect posture like that seems like a lot to ask of, I don’t know, fluid filled sacks, a la Kif Kroker. Well, whatever it is, it’s missing.
Or is it just… misplaced?
Double res version will be posted over at Patreon. $1 and up, but feel free to contribute as much as you like.
I think he just shed the ‘dead’ parts and wormed off to regenerate
Or perhaps someone who seems to know a lot about a lot of things decided to pick up enough of him to revive, knowing that he would probably be both reasonably grateful and also similarly annoyed with a certain someone who just flooded the chamber with death rays.
In any event, in the superhero genre when only half of someone’s body is found it’s a fair bet that the other half is going to be discovered alive and well at some point.
Oh my god, Earthworm Jim reference! I was laughing so hard at that.
Sydney’s back, Sydney’s back!
*happy doggy dance*
What about her front to?
I am being careful not to over-expose her.
wise choice, she may only pass out from embarrassment but Maxima is the one to be worried about in such a scenario; even if Max intends no physical harm her strength of presence is great at loosening urethral muscles semi-involuntarily, also possibly rectal ones as well
Also: Wyrmil is famous enough that he can be recognized, as an individual, from *that*?
Poor guy: if he is still alive, he currently seems to have to choose between being stuck in the vault until they open it again to catalogue and repair it, or turning himself over to the good guys. Unless he also joined Deus, which seems likely.
This is the most well-defended vault on the planet. Then bear in mind that top-tier supernaturals (e.g. 1000 year old vampires) are weaker than top-tier supers The supernatural individuals candidates capable of assisting on a heist this difficult could probably be counted on the claws of one paw.
But, even if that is inaccurate (or that he is a super rather than supernatural, just one who has managed to pierce the Veil), then being ‘just about impossible to kill’ is likely to give a significant reputation boost. Those remains are pretty distinctive, if gory.
The tail length, skin colouration and torso remains rule out any Terrestrial animal. Provided that Gorgons are distinct enough in those features for Decolette to rule that species out (and any other similar ones) then it narrows it down to individuals. Which she can cross reference to the above list to get a best guess. She did have a degree of uncertainty.
What item was Wyrmie after, by the way? If it was said somewhere, I missed it.
The Regenator.
Looks like he has a need for it.
Interestingly, if Wormie is *that* hard to kill, if he is prepared for it, he might just be able to simply reach through a death field and grab the Regenerator. Assuming he can instantly activate it’s effects upon grasping it.
Tackling a death field *brain first* probably put him off his game.
You don’t know that he keeps his brain in his head – he’s a freaky worm-creature, it could be anywhere…
We don’t but he very likely does. So Wyrmil can reach in with whatever bit is not survival critical. A hand is pretty risky though… they are wonderful things that operate tin cans. Without which dog food cannot be accessed!
*starts running in a circle, in obvious distress, whining*
he has tentacles not hands, i think he can operate can openers with his tentacles tho, since they can wrap around and then press down as needed
Very well remembered. That detail only appeared (relatively clearly) in just the one frame, way back when he first appeared.
Any creature with eyes will most likely have the brain within easy nueral reach. The optic nerves are some of the most sensitive and most likley to degrade with distance.
Looks like Syndey’s coping mechanism is making terrible, terrible puns.
Personally I think they’re offly good.
We are out of 1st by 800 votes ppl.
Mmm. For the ‘Sciona is a god’ proposal, brought up by one of our cunning readers, I offer one more bit of (circumstantial) evidence.
Sydney… there are times and places for jokes, and others where they’re inappropriate. Learn the difference.
Trying to fight off trauma and shock is a very appropriate place to make a joke. Sydney is surrounded by seasoned veterans, who will be happy that the rookie is coping so well, with a scene that would have others puking, screaming or running in terror!
Levity is good. It relieves tension and the fear of death.
I think something everyone has missed (or not mentioned yet) is that the remains of Wyrmil’s body is lying in the hole in the vault door made by the double energy canon thing… instead of on the floor right next to the pillar holding the dagger he had his head pushed through.
To me, this means that wyrmil was NOT taken away by Deus (whose portal lead directly into the vault) and that Wyrmil was still alive enough to move himself from the pillar and into the hole leading out of the vault.
I suspect that the relatively neat tearing of his brain and spine out of his upper half is really Wyrmil detaching his core “worm” from the damaged matter which made him appear humanoid. Also that his lower half is missing because his legs, waist, and part of his abdomen were not subjected to the death aura. So he probably really does look like Earthworm Jim, without the suit, plus legs.
Well observed and deduced.
And Wyrmil does have legs, rather than a tail.
I’m going to guess nobody’s picking up what Sydney is putting down because she pronounces “offal” based on how it’s spelled instead of the entirely unreasonable way it’s supposedly pronounced and nobody knows what she means. Some of them possibly because their understanding of English predates the vowel shift.
Ulp, the Black Library too? Kitten’s gonna be so cross…
